Lovely comment. And the reason I watch these wonderful movies, to keep my mind in a better place. I do not think those coming after our generation will have much to say about us: Instagram, TV reality shows, the entitlement society, wokeness, the post-Christian British values, the rapacity that is prevalent in our civilisation has made us narcissistic, callous, anti good, unforgiving, rapacious, ignorant, arrogant, weird, intolerant, liars, unfaithful, brutal, pervert, envious, frivolous, etc. Since 2020, everything is being done to turn our world, the old world, upside down. Helaine, these films do tend to swell one's courage. Considering the war in Ukraine and the hostilities of China toward the US and other NATO countries, our own courage may soon be tested.
It will again be many casualties with their aim for persecution of sabbath keepers. Remember the fourth commandment KJV is reminding us of the beautiful Genesis 2:2&3.
I am a Jewish Canadian. I didn’t know that I was Jewish until 2004. But I have found that I DID have some Jewish Germans and Jewish English when they were fighting Germany. I Praise God that we won that war as well as the previous one. I had a Great Great Grandfather who flew for the RAF (Royal Air Force)
@@peterblahut5106 That's a wonderful legacy for your family to cherish. It isn't so surprising that you were unaware of your Jewish heritage. There were some Jews, that survived the pogroms of the 19th Century, and the Holocaust, who emigrated to other countries, started their lives over, and who out of sheer terror, decided to hide their ancestry, often changing their names, destroying any existing documents that would prove such origins, abandoning the practices of their faith and culture, and even the ownership of Judaica. They often made family pacts, to walk away from, and never speak of their ancestry or experiences ever again. In their minds, it was too risky, but that decision left many of their progeny in the dark, not only about their ancestry, but their heritage of faith, as well. Often though, there are small clues within the family's daily practices and language, that belie the history. If your family has odd names for everyday objects, that are not recognizable in the English language; if there are family recipes, that were passed down from great-great-grandparents, that still bear non-English names, and no resemblance to American food, or are "From the old country;" if your family has traditions whose origins are not readily explained, these are likely remnants of your heritage. Maybe, this is part of your family's history. It's worth looking into, if you haven't already done so. And talk to the oldest, surviving relatives you have; they often know the family secrets that were never spoken of. That could set you on a fascinating journey of discovery. Shalom.
Both actresses did a fine job in their respective roles, in my opinion. It was done with the right amount of dignity and humor as well as the necessary seriousness . In my opinion I found Ms. Fields reminiscent of Deborah Kerr in her portrayal of Emmy. I had never seen it before in all my years of black and white film watching (and that is quite a few!)Thank you for uploading this treat,C.R.!!!
What a beautiful film, so full of the best of what it is to be human, contrasted with what it is to be the worst of human, I appreciate how the main character went from being flip & cavalier to understanding the depth of gravity of the situations they faced.
Very impressive movie ! With these two actresses, it may have resonate a lot as the war was just ending, and still resonate. To be noticed : Constance' sister, Joan, played in a remarkable 1940 film: Man I married, which was denouncing the pre war nazi regime at a time when not all american were convinced nazis represented a real danger. Ah, les sœurs Benett ....
Greetings from downtown Lytle Texas at 103 plus n great movies such as this one going back down memory lane n thank you to the person who made this movie possible for all of us. Take care
Hello Chris Rogers, I must join others here in thanking you so much for sharing this movie. My Mother - may she rest in peace and Bless her Spirit - managed to survive the horrors that was World War II. She and all my Family on my Mother's side were from East Germany (as far as I know, all have passed away by now and many passed away during the war itself). My Great-Grandfather along with many others helped to smuggle Jews out of East Germany by way of the theatres. My Mother was merely a young teenager in those horrible times. When it was obvious what was left of the family had to get out of the country, she somehow got papers for her Mother, my Grandmother - may she rest in peace and Bless her Spirit - and Grandfather, and they escaped East Germany. My Mother and her friend were part of the Resistance, and eventually time ran out. They could not stay, so they risked their lives to escape the Wall. Death was a certainty either way, but at least death while escaping made more sense. Most who tried that night were shot and killed. My Mother and one friend managed to get out. Until the day my Mother passed away in 2012, she had shrapnel in her back from those times. Although this movie is very much a clean version of the profound horrors and devastation of those times, it is a quite good and well-intentioned film. The actresses did a beautiful job. Again, thank you very much for sharing this movie. Blessings... "Cap'n" Toni with my Coco and Maya Pups and All the Animal-Kids of the lil Haus... Pennsylvania, USA....
Thank you for sharing your family's history has this been put into a book. Even if you self-published it online with Amazon which you would make more money than if you tried to go to a publisher it is an amazing story. You might also want to try Deseret Book they are a huge publishing company out of Salt Lake if they don't want to take you they can lead you to the right company that does autobiographies. Thank you for your family sacrifice. People just don't know what it was like these young people just think the world is going to be perfect for them because they shoot they were not taught when we went to war in 2001 what war was about instead they went to shopping malls.
What a great movie. This movie totally fool me I thought it was just funny. Then the rescue got riskier. They really push their luck. Love the romance, suspense, and drama. Thank you for sharing such an outstanding movie.
What a lovely gem 0 thanks!! Just been to Gracie's home in Capri - now a beach club located on the most beautiful spot, in the quiet part of the island just in front of the two famous giant rocks - what a lifetime experience.
Merci from la belle France, Chris. We are proud of many of our people's true grit, and we honor those who helped la Resistance allow such heroic escapes.
What a great movie and even better that it is based on a true story! What courage and bravery people had during these times. We have such a large population of young spoiled entitlement minded kids today who would benefit the most by watching this movie and others like it!
Well said, should be a headline somewhere... it’s scary how the young are so clueless, period. We grew up with heros and stories about real giants who made a difference in the future of America, and the world.
It wouldn't change them. The Russians have some of the most awesome war films, but at the first mention of conscription to Ukraine, their young men left the country.
I am so surprised , it was brilliant!! I know it is lot better than description. All the other actors were superb thank you for uploading Gracie fields is natural actress , the other lady is excellent too.
Incredible! Produced by Constance Bennet! A woman's heroic story so well written and directed. Oh, how I wish women hadn't been pushed out of Hollywood when it began to make big money. Did you notice the pair of stove pipes making shadows on the building when police were looking for the flyer, one crooked, one straight? They made sure to include them in the backdrop as the couple were speaking later, and in the correct position! I've never seen a movie with that much attention to detail. Thank you, dear poster.

The description is very accurate and educational. I enjoyed this film and was caught up in it quite quickly and it held my attention. Good quality upload and good performances, which I appreciate you sharing with us. LL
The "resistance" was a bunch of terrorists according to the German occupiers of France. The same branding is used by the US wherever it is met with armed opposition by people fighting back in their Pentagon-occupied homelands. Yankees worse than Nazis.

Thank you for your reply see Her This Is Your Life it features her real life, or The British Greats featuring Gracie, slips from this film on in the show.
Such a wonderful true story of courage and sacrifice. Ordinary people brave enough to do extraordinary service to their fellowman. Truly worth the watch !
Perfect on this Sunday afternoon thankyou and I love the strong female roles their courage... throughout the films depiction of volatile times with excellent cinema photography and the actress who plays Kitty is a very beautiful and elegant woman I also have a deep respect for the efforts of the french underground movement of that time
The SOE yes I have great Respect for . But the French resistance was a sick joke at best the various groups spent more time fighting each other than the Germans for control of France after the war was over. In fact a large majority collaborated with the Germans to get ride of rival groups. And the self Promoted "General Degaulle" He was really a low ranking nobody in the French army who fled like a scared Rabbit to Britain then Bravely hide behind the British skirts whilst making stupid speeches urging the occupied people to sacrifice themselves whilst he like the coward he was did not.
Sadly the French people were so wrecked after the first world war that they really very rarely stood up and fought against the Germans during the second World War it was aliens in their country Brits Americans disenfranchised Germans polish Etc people with false passports who really were the backbone of the Underground many priests almost all the priests and nuns in France were killed trying to save downed military as well as escaping refugees. The Vichy government was a horrible sick joke. But no worse than the Swiss who turned back refugees at the border even if you got into Switzerland they would literally send you back to whatever border you came across on so you could die after they of course stripped you of all your fortune that you had on you if you had anything left. We like to glorify certain people after the fact there was a lot of false propaganda put out after the war so people would swallow Monty getting his Awards or de Gaulle becoming president when they should have really been cut down at the knees for their actions true history is what's in the books later written by people who were there who didn't care anymore what they wrote because either the years were far enough away the person had died or they honestly did not care had no political reason to care
Exceptionally good film, a fun adventure and then courage and loyalty. Thank you, Chris, for the good technical quality of upload. Have subscribed for the rest of your small catalogue. Want to look at your Monty Wooley feature. Cheers 🥂
I have not seen this gem before, I am very close to the ending: * * * * *'s for everything and everybody! Having said that, my comment has to do with the "Constance Bennett and Gracie Fields, both were coming to the end of their film careers": The entertainment industry (and the etcetera's) has wasted the talents and lives of far too many people who had so much more to give. I feel. Many thanks for sharing this film gem with us all.
Magnificent Movie! Fighting for! Democracy then and again Democracy today forever! Thanks So Much for this Excellent Upload! Please watch this movie. You won't be disappointed especially since from one of the earlier comments was noted that this movie was based on a true story! What an ending!!! God Bless America! 🇺🇸 Keep up the good work!♥️♥️👍👍🎥🎬🎞
For anyone who might be interested, there is currently a remarkable book "A Woman of No Importance" by Sonia Purnell that tells the true story of an equally remarkable (American I think) heroine during WWII. Fascinating!
@@neanclements6164 I'm so glad. Her name was Virginia Hall and the Gestapo said that ""She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." She got herself into the fray long before the U.S. joined. Despite being refused by foreign intelligence, both because of her gender and having a prosthetic leg, she persisted. And how.
anyone doubting the courage of the women secret agents doesn't realise what they were facing. Or how many of them died very young, doing this work. Some under torture.
Thanks for a great movie. Free people everywhere must never forget the horrors of being hunted by a regime such as Nazi Germany, or Stalin's and Lenin's Russia, or the other murderous regimes and dictators the world over. These movies must always be available for the public so that we can never forget.
@randall2020 Would you care to illuminate us all as to these "millions actually" that you believe the U.S. has killed, quite apart from those killed in time of war?
Such a riveting drama...two women in leading roles...not often that occurs, but Gracie Fields and Constance Bennet are superlative in captivating the audience...I was overwhelmed by their acting ability. There are some good contemporary female actors but let’s face it, they have All the assistance of modern film making. The old b&w films are more like a stage play...integrity abounds..no dramatic, over the top sound effects, just acting like there’s no camera...
what a great story of the courage of that generation of people who took everything life through at them and faced it with resource and humour and no self pity for the uncertainties in being a human being....
Those war years, many good bad ugly incidents happened. Some became rich some lost everything some remained as they are. Great learning for all of us. Great movie
Interesting that in the opening credits Constance Bennett was at the bottom of the cast listing, though she was a very well known star. Since she produced the movie her cast listing placement was no doubt in her choice. Like everyone else on this page, I'm grateful to you Chris, for uploading this very enjoyable movie.

The "resistance" was a bunch of terrorists according to the German occupiers of France. The same branding is used by the US wherever it is met with armed opposition by people fighting back in their Pentagon-occupied homelands. Yankees worse than Nazis.
What a great movie! They were real heroes in these days! God bless them all!

What a delight this film was! Sorry, that sounds old fashioned. But seriously … thoroughly entertaining and some great performances, with twists and turns throughout. Highly recommended. Thanks for making it available to us all!

Getting familiar with Gracie fields' work. Thank you for posting, thoroughly enjoyed this.
Thank you for your reply see Her This Is Your Life it features her real life, or The British Greats featuring Gracie, slips from this film on in the show.
Excellent, suspenseful & well written .
Such a wonderful true story of courage and sacrifice. Ordinary people brave enough to do extraordinary service to their fellowman. Truly worth the watch !
What a suspenseful movie!
Yes, I agree, love these old movies, can't get enough of them.
Thank you for posting this delightful movie!
Thank you for uploading. I enjoy the WWII era movies very much. God Bless from Phoenix.
Wow! What a great movie. A hard reminder of the war. I cried too.
Thank you for your lovely comment, it made me cry too.
What a tremendous film. I had never heard of those resistance ladies before today. A most enjoyable film with a wee weep at the end. Perfect.
Yes, I had a wee weep at the end also.
What a great film! Thank you so much for sharing this with us.👍
The first 50 minutes were tedious but gets interestingly interesting, and what an ending! Wow!
John Nowakowski wow different people different perceptions. I thought from they met the german barricade it got intense, and certainly interesting.
Perfect on this Sunday afternoon thankyou and I love the strong female roles their courage... throughout the films depiction of volatile times with excellent cinema photography and the actress who plays Kitty is a very beautiful and elegant woman I also have a deep respect for the efforts of the french underground movement of that time
"Underground movement" as depicted in propaganda. Most French people were either submissive or collaborative, under German occupation.

NORRIS HERE HAVE OF YOU BEEN? HOPE YOUR ENJOYING THE MOVIE
Love these old movies!!! Just my pace.
I have not seen this gem before, I am very close to the ending: * * * * *'s for everything and everybody! Having said that, my comment has to do with the
"Constance Bennett and Gracie Fields, both were coming to the end of their film careers": The entertainment industry (and the etcetera's) has wasted the talents and lives of far too many people who had so much more to give. I feel.
Many thanks for sharing this film gem with us all.
Your most welcome it is a forgotten classic I fear?
Fantastic movie. Thanks for this quality upload.
The film is based on a true story from the memoir written by Etta Shiber.
Stella...I was wondering if there was any truth to this marvelous story...Thanks..!!
including the bloody horn blowing?
Without sacrifice, the war would have been lost.
ty for that info
The real Etta Shiber was arrested by the Germans, and expelled to the US, for she was an American citizen and the US and Germany weren't at war yet.
Wow, what an exceptional movie! Thank you!
Magnificent Movie! Fighting for! Democracy then and again Democracy today forever! Thanks So Much for this Excellent Upload! Please watch this movie. You won't be disappointed especially since from one of the earlier comments was noted that this movie was based on a true story! What an ending!!! Thank you so much for this fascinating film! I loved it🇺🇸
thanks for this! great clarity and a good story
Great movie!!!!! Thank you.
Awesome! Thank you, Chris Rogers!
For anyone who might be interested, there is currently a remarkable book "A Woman of No Importance" by Sonia Purnell that tells the true story of an equally remarkable (American I think) heroine during WWII. Fascinating!
Rebeka Lawsing thanks for sharing another shero’s

@@neanclements6164 I'm so glad. Her name was Virginia Hall and the Gestapo said that ""She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." She got herself into the fray long before the U.S. joined. Despite being refused by foreign intelligence, both because of her gender and having a prosthetic leg, she persisted. And how.
True story? LOL!
anyone doubting the courage of the women secret agents doesn't realise what they were facing.
@randall2020 You should go back to your father the devil.
marbleman52 👏👍🌺
@randall2020 Would you care to illuminate us all as to these "millions actually" that you believe the U.S. has killed, quite apart from those killed in time of war?
@randall2020 So you refuse to reply here in public, but only privately?
@randall2020 look for it.
Wow!!! What a great wonderful fantastic movie!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Kept me at the edge of my seat!
Beautiful movie! Thank you for the upload.
FANTASTIC NONE. LIKE THESE ACTORS BACK THEN DRAMA SUSPENSE. A GOOD STORY LINE THANK YOU
Such a riveting drama...two women in leading roles...not often that occurs, but Gracie Fields and Constance Bennet are superlative in captivating the audience...I was overwhelmed by their acting ability. There are some good contemporary female actors but let’s face it, they have All the assistance of modern film making. The old b&w films are more like a stage play...integrity abounds..no dramatic, over the top sound effects, just acting like there’s no camera...
thank you for this movie, very enjoyable.
Ohhhh thank you soooo much! What a wonderful movie!
Wonderful movie! Thank you💝
what a great story of the courage of that generation of people who took everything life through at them and faced it with resource and humour and no self pity for the uncertainties in being a human being....
Sorry...that was "what life threw at them"!
Those war years, many good bad ugly incidents happened. Some became rich some lost everything some remained as they are. Great learning for all of us. Great movie
Fantastic old Movies, Actually talented actors and actresses
Interesting that in the opening credits Constance Bennett was at the bottom of the cast listing, though she was a very well known star. Since she produced the movie her cast listing placement was no doubt in her choice.
Like everyone else on this page, I'm grateful to you Chris, for uploading this very enjoyable movie.
