    My mother was born in Berlin. She was a teenager during the war. My dad was north of Berlin fighting age 17. They met after the war. Married 60 years. This movie was good and much truth. My parents moved to Canada, then USA. Danke

      Yes. My mother (a Black woman) really loved that about the ending. She probably first saw the movie when it came out in the 1950s. While I was watching this movie as a child (in 1960s) mother couldn't help spoiling it a little by telling me of that nice ending. before it happened

    Super classic movie. I was born in Germany and I was there and I just love the screenplay the actors the actress fabulous thank you and thank you, RUclips. My father was an American Air Force pilot and I was born in Frankfurt Germany. Wow 77 years ago unreal. Thank you again.

    I feel so sad when I see movies that are trying to tell our history.... and then hear how so many books are being rewritten. This movie is only scratching the surface.... The younger generation these days will get a rude awakening soon and lets hope it won't be too late....

    I thank you for whoever posted this. I watched this on NBC Saturday Night t The Movies sometime after 1961 or so and was drawn by Dana Wynters beauty and the excellent story. I have wanted to see this again for at least 60 years. THANK YOU AGAIN for posting this. It is a WWII version of Cinderella for me.

    Charming and real. Shots of Berlin's rubble 12/13 years after the war -- wow.
    Dana Wynter's profile reminds me of Catherine Deneuve's. Gorgeous. And Mel is very likable here.

    20th Century Fox certainly created a tear jerker with this film. Even as a young adolescent, I remember the emotion this movie provoked. I especially appreciated the anti-racism displayed by the performance of James Edwards. It made me believe that our conquest of Nazi Germany had some redeeming values apart from those of the ideological. Thanks for posting it.

      Haven't yet watched this but I've always found Ferrer to be a good actor in any role in which I've seen him. Not a top star in his era, I don't believe, but a reliable, frequently seen one, usually with some prominence in high-quality films.

    Good, simplistic version. A grim reminder ( cleaned up copy ) of the fate of many similar "girls" /women of war torn places. It's an ugly reality, I'm sure many didn't make it... What amazes me, are the kind hearted men who helped rescue them. Even now, I pray that good men will stand for them.

    This actually is a good film despite the rather bland, straightforward way it is made. Some very touching moments in it. It has a charm, something we need more of. Dana Wynter very moving in parts. She and Susan Hayward have quite a lot similar. Thanks for showing it. I was about to let it go in the first 15 minutes and am glad I saw it through.

    Dana Wynters was ravishing in this film. I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. When I saw this for the first time I didn't even realize it was the same actress that was in 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'. She was gorgeous in that one as well. 😍

    This movie has a happy ending. I'm 72. Many of my Father's American friend's (upper middle) had European, WWII "war brides," and were happy.

    Of all the films that came out during the post-war era I don't imagine there were many dealing with such human issues as this. What a beautiful story. From the ashes of war come the rebuilding of lives and societies. I suppose we all have a little bit of Phoenix dna in us. During my 20-year Cold War career which included lots of port visits to Europe and a 3-year tour in West Germany, bringing home a foreign bride was not at all as common as it was in the post war years. Yet we all knew someone who did it.

    They were called "Schotze's"
    My Mother is German. My Father
    Met her in Salzburg, Austria in post war Europe and married
    Her in Vienna.
    This was a very similar era movie and story in that time. American women were very hostile to American GIs coming home with German Wives. Millions of young women never married in Europe and America too. War murdered their husbands and the futures of millions of souls never born
    Watch the "Third Man" with
    Orson Welles. The ending of that
    Movie is priceless.

    Thank you for posting this movie. I love old movies. I would love to see a movie I watched about 75 years ago. It was about Stephen Foster, a song writer. Beautiful Dreamer----one of my favorite songs.

    The reality was far more grim and ugly than what is shown in this story. This is a very sanitised American version of history.

      @@ilovenyiloveny1140 I had remarked that, you know. But the wishy-washy aspect is really unbearable for anyone who have the least bit of knowledge about the era. That certainly does not involve a lot of people. Anyway, that kind of film (which, apart from that is quite good. I enjoyed it!) should be labelled "fairy tale", something of the level of classic Walt Disney cartoons.

    At this time a picture was taken of the Cathedral with absolute desolation surrounding it on every side for a mile or more. How our bombers were able to avoid destroying it must be credited to God alone.

      That part, the Russian part was sanitised. See Hildegard Neffs autobiography: 10, 00 women and girls did not survive this experience
