"I don't like people much. Not even the ones I like." Noir to a tee! Love it.
😂😂 love noir too
I want this phrase on a t-shirt "immediately"....😊
Kinda like..."I love mankind...it's PEOPLE I can't stand!"...Linus Van Pelt-"Peanuts"
That is so me.
A true noir who done it! Thanks Cult Cinema Classics; you're the best!!
@CrosbieLane Thanks you!!! 😀
Loved it, thank you for showing! ❤️🤗👍
No matter how big the cottage, everybody still hangs out in the kitchen.
Yes, as the rest of it is hiding the bodies.
This early version of colour has tint that gives it the "dark" atmosphere of many B&W movies.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANOTHER GEM IN COLOR
Absolutely like the colorised version as the colours are so subtle, just as I like them.
Everything is prettier than in reality.
I find it more realistic in colour. :)
The colorization definitely takes something away from the beauty of the black-and-white print.
Put sunglasses on! 😂
It's not just the colorization but the horrible results. Gives me a headache. I couldn't finish the much appreciated film. Hope to see it one day in bw on your fine channel.
I don't think so, I like both although I'm tending to prefer the colour versions now. :)
Thank you for sharing this film. Happy Noirvember😎🎬📽🔎
It took me a while, but I finally placed him - William Sylvester was Dr. Heywood Floyd in 2001: A Space Odyssey. What a movie. The house it's filmed in is amazing - beautiful furnishings, a great kitchen, sculpture everywhere, deco lamps, an amazing old TV set. I wonder who was supposed to be keeping all of those beautiful cut flowers [in almost every scene] fresh and nice? Also funny to see them drinking scotch from wine glasses - this is a great movie, thanks for posting!
Great movie thanks for posting
Better than I thought it would be. Except that colorization is YUCH. 🎥🍿🎥
Thanks Mag! you are the Best :)
Paulette Goddard in her final days as a film star.
Good, a nice colorised copy I can add to my growing collection of colorised movies, look forward to more. Thanks.😊
Look up Pixbim ai colorizer . I got mine for less than 50 pounds for a lifetime use and it does a pretty good job for it ,now I can colorise anything I want without any fuss !
Better in black and white !!....the colorization removes all mistery and drama
Foarte bun film ,vechi dar minunat .Merită vizionat. Recomand să-l vizionati cu mare drag pentru ca merita.
Actor William Sylvester( Vickers) appeared in Stanley Kubrick's 2001 : A Space Odyssey as Dr. Heywood Floyd.
One Will wait for the Stones in this pictùre.
Leave ‘em alone…The ‘Classics’ are better in black and white…..
Thank you very much 🌹💗
Fortunately, I saw this before it was colourised!
Love the color it still retains that dark noir ambiance.
Yes, there is still an ambience in the colour version, although I wouldn't call this film noir. I like the fact you can see the fashions, landscapes, furnishings and everyone's colouring in colours. I also like black and white but love the colours as it brings everything more alive.
First class Crimi. What amazes me is the lack of conscience/knowledge of First Aid proceedures when confronted with life threatening circumstances
Thanks for romanian subtitle! Have a nice day! Mulțumesc pentru subtitrarea în limba română! O zi bună!
PSA, if you go to Settings [the gear looking thing to right of CC bottom right of video] left click on it, left click on Closed captions, you will find Romanian provided make sure CC is turned on ciao
I like the colorized films because the black n white comes thru in odd places/moments. It's fun!
And why are they drinking scotch out of wine glasses?
NEVER EVEN NOTICED!! HAAA!😀
Servants took the weekend off.
@@Johnnycdrums Oh, yeah. I forgot!
Yes. Hard liquor in wine glasses. The bottle does not even look as expected. Does not look like it contains dark or amber colored liquid (Scotch) and the shape and labeling makes it look like no scotch bottle ever seen in the real world. And...main characters sound like upper -class folks from England, then they drink COFFEE through the entire story. Into the 1980s, coffee was only minimally popular in the UK. Anyone with any experience of England would expect to see at least one of those breakfasting characters in the process of making tea. Was the director just trying for a weird, off-balance atmosphere? The acting comes across as excellent (in my opinion) and except for being kind of weird, the look of this film is polished. It's not as though they just tossed this together. Weirdness is probably intentional.
@@ceceliaclarke264 ; I think they were trying to imitate Connecticut, Rhode Island, or New York.
I never had any inclination it might be England, as I was trying to identify the river throughout the film.
Sometimes they are just better in black and white.
Yes its funny how it just doesn't look right to me in color.
Why colorize them....they are perfect the way they are
Oh, I don't know. I enjoy seeing an old film colorized.
@@harrymarsee701 ME TOO HARRY. THEY SEEM MORE DRAMATIC AND INTERESTING TO EXPERIENCE. ESPECIALLY THE DECOR AND MOOD.!!
WE KNOW WHAT'S BEST H. NEVER DOUBT IT😜🤓👀😀🇺🇸
I believe so
A pleasant surprise. A very entertaining movie indeed.
& very good quality print.
@@Charlesputnam-bn9zy Yes it was.
Actual Name of this film is THE STRANGER CAME HOME.
An amnesiac Englishman (William Sylvester) returns to his wife (Paulette Goddard) after three years and finds he's a murder suspect.
Genre: Mystery & Thriller, Drama
Original Language: English
Director: Terence Fisher
Runtime: 1h 20m
I very much preferre B/W they look so much better
Really good movie. They don´t make them like this anymore.
Thank god
They smoked a lot in 1954. Clothes, breaths, rooms, cars must have reeked awfully!
👍🏼 Yes, and actors are talking all the time with smoke coming out of their mouth 🙄
You should smoke more.
Yes they did, it was called Chain Smokers.
I enjoyed this movie so much! Could you show a colorized version of The Trollenberg Terror aka The Crawling Eye and The Vampire (1957)? Keep up the great work! 😃
They are on you tube !
@@philiphindley8073 Thank you so much! I managed to find the crawling eye (colorized). I haven't been able to find a colorized version of The vampire (1957). I would appreciate any help if it's on another web page. 😃
@@reginaldrivers553 CosmicMonsters is on there but not The Vampire I misled on the latter ?
I think I might have seen that when I was wee little kid is that the one where there's a giant eyeball that is destroying the Earth I can't remember exactly but I do remember the giant eyeball what a name for a movie the crawling eyeballing the vampire
After 46 mins im still trying to find out who was murdered first.
You're not the only one. I'm confused too😱
17:00 Harry.
There's helpful timeline in description with time stamps ... but no spoilers really, as people fall in & out of innocence & guilt!
😁
Colourised versions destroy all the atmosphere.
My guess is that the black and white original was better.
Merci pour ce film.
I totally agree, for some reason I don't emotionally connect with the classic movies in color. They don't take me back in time.
7:25 if the cooker is very close to the curtains!
Unless the curtains are made from fireproof material!😂
Colorization is a major benefit for our generation. What a blessing.
A blessing? Everything's pink.
I would have enjoyed this film more had it not been colorized
Merci beaucoup
*WHY* studios are compelled to "colorize" movies resulting in a level of film quality that falls BELOW the original "impact" of the original B&W director's intent is beyond my understanding. 🤪The colorization process essentially LOSES ALL of the requisite "elements" of _"Noir"_ itself.😮
_NONETHELESS...._ a wonderfully suspenseful plot pushed along by "unique" Paulette Goddard and the equally complex role of William Sylvester.
The dialogue between the police investigators is CLASSIC 1950s.... Or at minimum, Definitively English.... Albeit with a Great Ending!!!! 🤣
Noir has nothing to do with filmstock. It's about dark worldview... El Bud.
And _"the dark worldview"_ IS famously represented in The True Noir style by high-contrast "expressively moody" shadows, and scene lighting used as a means to visually convey the pending danger, which THIS *_original_* Director's B&W version most certainly employs *_and_* portrays..... Though largely Lost in THIS colorization process.... as described above. "Different Strokes"!!!! 🤣
Old movies are the best
At least we don't see naked shameless actor's
Great movie, William Sylvester was excellent.
Nice ending, ended up stay up late to finish watching!
20-10"ah women they getting too capable for their own good, theses days" . Excellent line that makes as well and suggest the story.
Yes it’s a beauty of a line!! And spoken as a woman, only too right!! Ah… the days when all we had to worry about was whether little George’s shirt was nicely ironed for school next day!!!
Mysterious ... quite a slow pace. We liked it in the end but found this oddity: no clues as to location. Are we in UK? US? Accents from all over, no city references. Interior style looks like ... esoteric as in, can't place it. A smattering of very old architecture and woodwork, etc, but not much. 1950's furniture here and there. A bit like someone said, "Let's make a movie! We have some costumes in the attic! etc." All the same, thanks for posting!
An English/UK 1940s Police car. Also driver drove on left road side. Early on the milk bottle taken from the fridge is a typical English Pint bottle. (I have no idea what a USA pint bottle looked likes but I know my English pint bottles). No screw top as bottles were returned then refilled with thin foil used to seal. It also looks too big to be a USA pint bottle as the USA pint is only 16 ozs where as the English pint is 20ozs.
You jivin? It's England, god. Are you older than 20?
It was shot in the UK, and the peripheral looks like it's meant to occur there as well.
Movies made in black and white are meant to be seen in black and white.
‘Get yourself a drink, you look awful’
Please don’t colourise these precious films 🎥😢

Bon scénario et bien interprété , genre théâtre. Également correctement coorisé. Merci, tank you pour le partage.
Nice
Why does this movie have bad reviews? I really enjoyed it.
Poor Mabel 😅😂😅 Clever 😂
What a name for a movie The Crawling eye and the vampire I got to see that one
I'll watch a colorized film but the whole time I'm cursing those who messed with an artist's work. It's distracting and everything has that weird pink cast to it. I don't mind b&w at all. I was born in 1957. Son was born in 1979 and he avoided b&w like it was hot lava.
What I find creepy about these colorized movies is that people's eyes are ALWAYS brown ,no other colour ! And people's necks often go grey !
Yes, it's great to see the different eye and hair colours. :)
I loved the costumes…
13:13. "I don't like people too much. Even the people I like."
Who wrote this script? Obviously not a student of Ontology.
Interesante!
Peccato sia ricolorato , in bianco e nero avrebbe reso di più le atmosfere .
I would like to review I Mastini del Dallas (North Dallas Forty) with Nick Nolte. Maybe a nice Italian subtitling. Thanks for everything and have a nice day.
Good film, if a bit slow for modern tastes. Not a fan of the "sepiazation" of film. If I never see the color Oscillating Eggplant again, it will be too soon. :)
ESPLENDIDA PELICULA
Looks like this is a British production. I am figuring that from the license plates and right-hand steering automobiles.
It was sad seeing Cecil B. DeMille's favorite actress in an unworthy film like this. Her contemporary, Susan Hayward, by contrast had already received 3 Oscar nominations at this point in time. In the '40s when they co-starred together, Paulette always received top billing. And we know Susan (as Edythe Marrenner) was poo-pooed during her Scarlett O'Hara screentest, while Paulette became the frontrunner for the role.
Eu gosto de filmes antigos
I didn't find it sad, although I agree it was definitely, unworthy of her talents. Paulette still stood out so I could understand how all the men were in her orbit. She looked stunning in the black evening dress. I was impressed by her acting culminating in her affectionate mannerisms in the taxi. In fact, the acting all round was good just let down by the script.
Thank you VTMCompant for your comments. Four or five times while watching this mediocre movie I wanted to turn it off, but I persevered. The dialogue was eminently clumsy, the action was awkward in that I was never sure where everyone was, and the characters so indistinct in speech and even appearance that I found myself wishing that the chinless police chief would have been one of the brothers. :). As the saying goes, those were minutes that were wasted never to be gained again for productive use. PS And Paulette needed a girdle.
It could have been such a good movie, if someone hadn't tried to 'colorize' it....
A good film
Something about this movie just a tad off. Not sure if it was how the plot unfolded or the acting...but the film just falls short of the noir mark. ☆☆☆
WHY does it have to meet your expectations?
This film holds a certain fascination for it keeps you guessing. It would have been much better if it were not colorized for the original black and white would add to the drama. The acting and directing are below par. I liked the big old dog but I don't see the purpose, or even any symbolism for him in the film. This is not Goddard's best performance by any stretch of the imagination. See her in 'The Women', 1939 (at this writing it's not available on RUclips) where she gives an excellent performance. I both liked 'The Unholy Four' and thought it a bombed. So go figure.
Stay how you are. Someone benefits.
Es una pena que la totalidad de la película este en inglés .y no tenga subtítulos en español
The writing was weak, although the premise of guy returning from mysterious absence was very good. Everyone so nonchalant about harry dying, likewise the ending was even worse. One can say, it’s just a movie. But I assume the novel was much better, otherwise why make a movie from a crappy novel.
Also it’s almost a given detective stories should have interesting settings, e.g. Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, etc. Here almost every shot is in the same room and meanwhile there’s not much for dramatic interest.
I found the casting about the most interesting part of this film.
You went where to get that Education?
@@BlueBeeThemeMusic Ha ha, I studied English at university back in the day just before the cultural Marxism and wokeism really took over, i.e. there were still a few honest professors teaching about literature.
However I still didn't understand much about character or plot until I wrote a (really bad) play myself, and then took lessons with a dramaturge for about four months and wrote a better play.
So now I know enough to know excellent writing when I see it, even though I'm not at that level myself.
Cheerio
Sylvester Stallone in this.
That's it. I'm watching!
Great old movie.
I like that too, in black and white.
