Julie Andrews at her most beautiful, complex plot but subtle enough to follow, the Barbados scenery is amazing, the John Barry score is unforgettable, and the sophistication of Edward's direction of wife and Omar Sharif make this an almost forgotten winner. I never understood why this film didn't do better at the box office, it was excellent in every way. I was 16 when it came out, loved it. My mom thought it was bc people wanted her in singing roles again, but to me, she was also an excellent actress, and proves it here.
I remember that too! It wasn't a big hit at all --- can you imagine?! Your mom was probably right, Julie Andrews was a versatile actress but, post-Sound of Music, I think her popularity waned. I’ll bet this film did well in Britain. Americans were too removed from the Cold War to relate to this. I was in high school when this film came out. I like both Omar Sharif & Julie Andrews & saw most of their movies. This is the first time I enjoyed them together. Thank you. (from my home ' The City of Angels, Bangkok ')
Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most underrated actresses of our time. The small looks and actions, the inflection and intonation of voice.... all stunning.
What a gem. Thank you for posting this incredible elegant masterpiece of “romantic-spy” movie. I think I’ve must have heard before about this movie, but shame on me for not watching this before. A time when ppl truly created elaborated and very well constructed plots. Unfortunately nowadays, Hollywood seems to be plagued for ppl who barely knows how to write to “create” ( mostly borrowing from old movies) scripts that vaguely resembles a plot or storytelling. It’s all about explosions, gore and a LOT of sex, vulgarity and violence.... Watching a movie nowadays its like eating a meal without any salt, pepper and sauce...and mostly without any juicy steak on it. The Tamarind Seed is a testament that a good well written plot with a few great and capable actors can be very charming, suspenseful and very entertaining. Unfortunately 90% that are thrown in the theaters will never get even close to the good flicks of the past, Good thing we still have youtube to dig for some forgotten pearls from the past.
Fascinating eyes he has!!. Big fan of him, and loved and all of his movies. RIP Omar Sharif Great movie and clear copy to watch after all these years. So glad I came across it accidently here. Really Thank you Retrospective.

Excellent film. Great John Barry score. Omar sharif wonderful an handsome actor. Watch this film many time never get tired of it the story with all it’s twists an turns
Great movie! Thanks for uploading - and NO COMMERCIALS!!! Omar and Julie here might be the most beautiful pair ever.....She was great whether she sang or not....
What an absolutely brilliant film. The cinematography, the music, the scenery and the Stars, WOW! I actually think Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most attractive, talented and eloquent actress' ever. THe cast were superb but the whole movie hung on every move of her soft and inviting lips. Well done for sharing, thank you.
I admire her too very much . . . but 'eloquent'? She's an actress; she's reading lines, so how can she be praised for being eloquent? Do you mean elegant? She is certainly incredibly elegant. Unless you are referring to her demeanor off camera - but in interviews she always seemed so down to earth and girl-next-door, almost self effacing. Eloquent would be maybe Katherine Hepburn, who was very self-deprecating in the most pointed, socially conscientious way and immensely educated therefore articulate, but never full of airs, very frank, intimidatingly so, and utterly facile in her self expression -- or Jane Fonda, who was extremely influential and clear in her activism. Or Meryl Streep. But Julie Andrews? Like Judy Garland, she just seemed so down to earth and sweet, and rather disarming in her simplicity -- almost studiously plain speaking. Eloquent? Hardly. It would spoil her style.
The quality of acting in this movie is excellent from top to bottom. I remembered Omar Sharif as just a pretty face when he was younger, but he did a fine job of acting here. Apart from the occasional sexist remark (appropriate to general attitudes when the movie was made), he was so charming. Also, I must give a special shout-out to Anthony Quayle as Mr. Lauder, who was terrific. Julie Andrews was of course wonderful, as she always is.
Oh please..what "sexist" remarks were those? Just because a movie isnt infected with the feminist garbage that the current culture and movies are plagued with doesn't make it sexist. It just means the 70s were the last period when men and women behaved like they are supposed to... and where women looked like women and actually appreciated and wanted men.. which is not what you see in modern movies with obnoxious, toxic "strong empowered" masculine women who are apparently better than men in everything and relish humiliating and emasculating men, and can never stop repeating how they are "strong" and "independent" and dont want or need men.
My favorite 'Omar' movie. His great set pieces don't hold a candle to this slow-building, tense story of intrigue and romance. And what a terrific, heartwarming ending! Julie Andrews plays this just right.
What an entertaining film, full of twists and turns, great script and top-notch actors all round. I think very few women would have resisted Mr. Sharif's charms as long as Ms. Andrews did in the film!.....
I remember very well when this film was filmed here in Barbados as I was able to watch quite a bit of it actually being filmed and was even offered to be one of the back ground figures through the contact of one of my friends but I was too busy at the time raising my two young children and refused the offer. As a Barbadian, it is good to see many beautiful parts of our island on screen. It was also good to see Omar and Julie close up. Not one of the best movies but not boring.
I meant to say;there was another movie 🎥 that I liked, called;Billion Dollar Brain from 1967.This was a spy 🕵️♀️ movie that was based on a book 📕 by;Len Deaton.

What a really Good Film, with a plot line successfully lacing together so many different story facets. As always, Omar Sharif is a rewarding joy. I thought at the beginning that Julie Andrews may have been miscast, but her character demeanor 'dove-tailed' into the plot almost perfectly!! The Russian players were well-cast, too. Nice photography throughout. Thanks Retrospective for the appreciated upload.

A good clean film and entertaining. I love spy movies like this. Keeps you wondering who is doing who wrong. I am 57 and I grew up with the clean movie era. I sure miss it today. Thanks for putting this movie on yourtube to watch.
I like both Omar Sharif & Julie Andrews & saw most of their movies. This is the first time I enjoyed them together. Thank you. (from my home ' The City of Angels, Bangkok ')
Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most underrated actresses of our time. The small looks and actions, the inflection and intonation of voice.... all stunning.
hardly underrated. a huge star.
@@harmoniabalanza For singing, though. Not for acting.
Mary Poppins was an acting role, with some singing in it. She excelled at both during her working life.
Unfortunately 90% that are thrown in the theaters will never get even close to the good flicks of the past,
Good thing we still have youtube to dig for some forgotten pearls from the past.
That’s about all it’s good for
Fascinating eyes he has!!. Big fan of him, and loved and all of his movies. RIP Omar Sharif
Great movie and clear copy to watch after all these years. So glad I came across it accidently here.
Really Thank you Retrospective.
Whatever you think of the film itself, let's have a hand for another magnificent and under-appreciated score from the one and only Mr John Barry...
BringMe Knitting. You better know it!😄😄
Ha! And I called it. Seems if I really enjoy a film score....it usually turns out to be John Barry's! ;-)
The score is a standout for sure. Its the main character for the montage like central scene of escaping to Barbados.
Many times the music makes the movie for me.
Omar's eyes..told a beautiful strory..yet I see sorrow in them to. Both great Actor's..love this movie💓
An under-rated classic. Realistic and deeply moving.
Agreed! An under-rated classic. Love this movie!!!
I did not expect the end to be this, but it is so wonderful. Praise and thank the Lord!
Agreed!

This is a classic. Gteat plot till the end; smart dialogs; beautifully acted!
I mean Omar Sharif & Julie Andrews? Who does that? But it was perfect! Gorgeous time capsule.
I saw this movie when I was 10 years old and loved it. Thanks for uploading. they don't make 'em like this any more!
Omar shariff was a great actor. May his soul rest in peace.
I loved that movie! Thank you so much! I turned 10 in 1974 so that was a bit mature for me. I love movies from the 70s, thanks again!
No matter how many times I watch this film I never get tired of it.
Me too! Always loved this film...
Where are you from
One of the best espionage thrillers I've ever seen. Much better than any 007 movie.
They don't make movies like this anymore. Never seen it before, what a treat!
No you are right
Movie making has improved
But the movies are shyte
Thank god they dont!
@@imasomwon1982 what a stupid comment to make, modern movies are rubbish, I agree but where do you find movie making has improved???????
@@stuartlawsonbeattie1411 I think perhaps that Ima Somwon was trying to point out the difference between technical knowledge and actual content. I dunno. Just saying. I enjoyed this classic very much. Andrews and Sharif were great. As was Anthony Quale. I'd missed it at the theatre and not seen it before.Plus the bonus was the music of the great John Barry.
This was a Mega Hit
I had been wanting to watch this for a while. Thankyou for this. Glad to see the happy ending. I miss the 70s.I wish we could turn back time.
Excellent film. Great John Barry score. Omar sharif wonderful an handsome actor. Watch this film many time never get tired of it the story with all it’s twists an turns
Saw this in the theatre in 1974. Enjoyed it then and here it is again. Even better the second time around. Thank you.
One of my all time favorites. Omar Sharif is brilliant and so realistic
Great movie! Thanks for uploading - and NO COMMERCIALS!!! Omar and Julie here might be the most beautiful pair ever.....She was great whether she sang or not....
Julie Andrews makes it worth a watch.
Helen Lauer .
I AGREE... my most fav actress ever 👍
I enjoyed watching a good movie after a long time.Julie Andrews and Omar Sheriff acted so well tks
I enjoyed watching the movie.Julie Andrews and Omar Sheriff ate my favourite actors
One of the masterpieces combining love and espionage in the cinema history, Omar Sharif and Julie Andrew were just incredible !
What a classic. Great acting and music. No nudity and violence yet suspenseful. I love watching these gems from the 70s.
Amazing, the incomparable Julie Andrews is a timeless beauty
Omar and julie together extant dr zhivago1965 and sond of music to great 👍actors tamarend seed thence black edwards
A real masterpiece. Omar elsherif did a spectacular performance as usual. He's a real source of pride. May his soul rest in peace 🙏🙏🙏
The 70s colour, absolutely superb. Clear and bright.
Her voice was like an angel.
It's such an enjoyable classic.
No physical action but the intellectual makes up for it.
Barbados is so beautiful.
The only place that George Washington visited outside of North America. It was considered a spa for the kill, like his brother Lawrence.
A beautiful movie from the 70s. Thank you 😊
My favorite 'Omar' movie.
All Blake Edwards films are good. His lovely wife, Andrews, also elevates anything she's in.
She was so proud ou f being married to him. She is elated when people praise his work.
What a wonderful movie. The music is so touching.
I wonder if that tamarind seed is still in the Bridgetown Museum.
Nice story to hear.
Bless you!
I meant to say;there was another movie 🎥 that I liked, called;Billion Dollar Brain from 1967.This was a spy 🕵️♀️ movie that was based on a book 📕 by;Len Deaton.
Seen this movie a few times already, and every time I discovered extra satisfaction.. beautiful indeed.
An excellent movie! A well written story decorated by the superb performance of Omar sharif and Julie Andrews! The movie keeps you engaged till the end!!!
Who can beat Julie Andrews and Omar Sharif. What a pleasure to watch. Smooth, understated acting, a solid story and, of course, the perfect ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Wow!This is so intense! You wouldn't want to take a break even if it's too long.
Brilliant. Absolutely the best. Want to watch it again❤🙏🏻🙌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow… What a beautiful love story!! I’m crying like a baby‼️ Sending to heaven My Thank you Omar … May you be happy in eternity with God.. and thank you Julie A… What a incredible Pair ‼️
Great movie. Didn't realize how really handsome Mr Sharif was and how charming.
He was so handsome
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and I am not generally a Thriller lover, but the suspense was really well-played out and the screenplay was very well written. Thanks for posting it.
I really enjoyed this. A classic spy, love and mystery.
I usually watch older movies, but I kept seeing this pop up in my profile, so I finally checked it out and I am so very grateful I did!
Thank you so much for uploading this masterpiece....this will be a film l watch more than a few times!
Surprise ending great movie, Omar Sharif himself said during an interview that film "The Tamarind Seed" was one of his favorite. The chemistry between Julie Andrews and Omar Sharif was amazing.
This was Excellent ... Something about the 1970's, My Favorite Decade of Film Making * Loved It.
What a movie! Interesting still these days. Omar is so charming 😍😍😍, no wonder women could not resist his charm)). He easily can play James Bond, it's puty he was underrated. Julie and Omar both are terrific actors!
Those with a knowkwdge of French shoukd watch Omar's interview given in 1967 from the INA archives.Gives one a glimpse of the person he was and such a treat to watch.Unprentitious,self-critical,honest and curiously untouched and distant from his life as a star a it were he was right to the end.One of the few male stars who has been described as beautiful by his co-stars and fans alike.
Swarnalatha Subramaniam
