You're like me with the bass -- I'm absolutely part of Team Ale! I've been listening to music for nearly fifty years, and this band is absolutely the best thing to have happened to rock music in nearly thirty years! Not only that, but Ale's bass playing has changed the way I listen to music. It's not that I haven't noticed bass players before, but I definitely take much more notice of the bass lines in music I've been listening to all my life. These three young women are truly special musicians, and I can't wait until I see them on stage in April!

This song is part of their concept album _Queen of the Murder Scene,_ in which a girl goes from unrequited love to obsession, stalking, murder, and then a battle against her evil side for her soul. At this point, the obsession is clearly growing and consuming her. She feels she is sinking down into a trap. She doesn't know it at this point, and doesn't intend it, but there will soon be blood on her hands.

FYI: This song started with Daniela playing around on guitar in their home studio, The Warning Cave. The opening bass riif was the riff she came up with, and the song was going to start on guitar but they switched it to the bass.
This song gave them the most trouble to compose. Everytime they tried putting it together they scrapped it. They went through about 20 versions of the song, new lyrics, new melodies, everthing. The final version is nothing like how they started the song. They finished the song in the studio while they were recording the song. At one point they lay on the floor together and yelled out lyrics. When it cme tome to name the song they left it as "Ugh" because they couldn't think of a better title, because every time they tossed the song and started it over they would utter, "Ugh."
But, two songs were created out of the discards of Ugh, "The One" and "The Sacrifice", which are on the ame album as "Ugh", Queen f the Murder Scene.

We enjoy it when someone savors The Warning's music. Going back to listen to something again means that you are paying attention and that it affected you. They really don't write throw away songs, so all of their lyrics are worth looking at. At some point, you should go through the Lunario CDMX concert in order, which was when they did the entire Queen of the Murder Scene album.

  • @Zepherian

In live performances, according to her sisters, it's actually Ale on bass that is keeping the tempo of the whole song, which is usually done by the drummer. Apparently she has perfect timing and you can see her glaring at her sisters sometimes, dragging them back into time. She is something else. She also has a great voice which she does not want to use lol So to see her sing, and there are a couple of times she fills in for her sister if she's under the weather, is the most special of all warning clips. I can tell you have joined team Ale. And yes, that is a thing :D

@@flowersafterrainfall Me too, but in my case it's just that stoic calmness with which she carries herself, and remember, she's still a teenager, and how she's a rock for her older sisters that endears me to her. That she looks like a supermodel might also help a bit ;)

The song is called Ugh because they had difficulty finishing the song and it got to the point where they just sighed "ugh" in disgust or resignation any time they had to work on it. That became the working title of the song while they were finishing it and it stuck. Glad that they didn't abandon it because it is among my faves. If I remember correctly a couple of the parts they tried to fit into this song actually became two other songs instead.

TW has several styles of rock but they are invariably pure rock!!
With their structure, their breaks, transitions, rhythm changes, modulations, choruses, pre-choruses, drum attacks, their endings, the great beauty of their art is in its simplicity but all of this always seems to be at the right time and in the right way, bordering on perfection.
And each of their pieces can be very different, but always with all the TW flavor.
It’s more than clear that these sisters have no limits.
They are the queens of the hook, the riff, the contagious rhythms, catchy melodies and the ambiguous but profound messages…
    The new masters of rock:
    The Warning.

Well, they have renewed my love for music in general, so I totally understand. I had a closed playlist until I discovered them a couple of years ago, and now I pretty much only listen to The Warning. Apart from the occasional review of Shinedown or Halestorm, it's TW 24/7 and not only do I never get tired of them, but I enjoy them more and more and every time I hear a song again I discover something new.
And if that wasn't enough, they are fantastic off stage, interacting with their fans... in short, I haven't had this level of involvement with any other band in my entire life, and I've been listening to all the greats since the early 80s.

I love that YOU love them! I found these beautiful humans about 1 1/2 years ago and to be honest, I didn't think I could feel this way about music again. They make me feel the way I felt when I was 15 years old listening to Van Halens first album, or Molly Hatchet, it just takes me somewhere old and new at the same time. Hopefully you have a chance to go back and watch some of their first performances and watch an interview or two. Once you see how hard they have worked since they were literal children, and how humble they are, it will take it to a whole new level of respect for these young ladies! We love watching you discover them and we'll be here no matter what you choose to watch from them! Thank you for this!

No disrespect to Pau’s ability as time keeper, but IMO it’s Ale’s bass playing that often drives the song and moves it forward. She’s the glue that holds it all together that provides the platform for Dany and Pau to be fully engaged in doing their thing. Ale is a monster of a bass player and I don’t know if Geddy Lee from Rush is or was an influence for her, but her melodic bass lines and riffs remind me of his…the melody under the melody as Geddy would say.

QOTMS is a concept album that tells a story from the first song to the last... hearing the album out of order makes it hard to follow the story... like reading a book's chapters out of order...
there were two or three other songs that were spawned from *Ugh* ... it was a hard one and they really had to work on it... the result is great!
DPA/TW wanted to shelve it but their father kept after them to complete it... they were like "ugh! do we have to?" and "Ugh" stuck as the name...

Wow you've fallen hard! So did I, from the first time I heard them about a year ago. There are a bunch of songs Pau the drummer sings lead on, including a few from this same show. Some are ballads (23 and Revenant), some are rockers (Dust To Dust which is the prologue of their second album Queen of the Murder Scene which this song is from, and Narcissista, which is the first song they wrote in Spanish as a giant flip-off to a Mexican journalist who criticized them for writing in English). If I had to pick one to listen to first it would be Dust To Dust. Or Narcissista. Or 23. But Revenant is great too!

Yeah. I agree. Just not long enough. UGH is because they had a hard time finishing the song, as part of the QOTMS cycle, but dad Luis pushed them to work on it (gracias Luis). They would say UGH when that happened. So it became the song title!
S!ck became the song because their producer kept using the word, it is said, so they built the song. Darndest thing, in typical TWB fashion, a song i was not impressed with at first has become another favorite. Like most all their songs.

Maybe, as you further react, at some point do an album reaction to Queen of the Murder Scene and wrap your mind around a dark but engaging musical journey!

Ale was 17 when they performed this concert in 2022.
Ugh is from their second album Queen of the Murder Scene. It is a concept album that tells the story of a girl that is infatuated with a person that doesn't know she is there. Lots of murder throughout the album.
They play the entire album at Lunario 2018 ruclips.net/video/9VciU3gMMUY/видео.html&t=

Ey, amiga. Ugh pertenece al segundo álbum de The Warning.
Ah, veo que has decidido entrar al lado oscuro de The Warning. Muy valiente.
Bienvenida al mundo tenebroso de Queen of the Murder Scene, nuestra reina carmesí
    The Warning nos une.

All of them have a great stage presence but it wasn't always that way. For an example, watch their first cover of Enter Sandman that went viral. In a roundabout way that cover paved the way to more animated performances. It got them noticed by Ellen DeGeneres who had them on her show and gifted them with $10K each to attend a summer session at the Berklee College Of Music. One of the classes was on stage presence and they certainly paid attention in class. Watching vids from before and after Berklee shows it clearly.
