Clickbait is bad.... Actually, some degree of clickbait is basically a necessity on RUclips these days. As long as it's a relevant thumbnail to stop immediate bounce, then it's acceptable, especially if you're getting high click-through.
When It comes to "bad performing Videos Hurting Your Channel" There is actually a few other factors involved. Once you find your "niche" on youtube (makeup, Tutorials, Gaming etc) RUclips will put you in a "Network" of other creators that make similar content. This is in an effort to boost views from "recommended" This can give you a massive boost in views in certain situations. Now if you post TOO many videos that do poorly, That ALSO fall under a different type of content (Different Video Game etc) RUclips might put you into a new "newtwork" of creators, changing your views from recommended. This can Give you A Massive Boost In views, Or can drastically hurt your channel where your old videos, that did very well, might not do well anymore. It s a bit more complicated than that, but that's a jist of it. It's not that 1 or 2 bad videos can kill a channel, its when you try to force to much of something new that's not working. Obviously if you plan it out right, and you know that there is a LOT of traffic that wants to watch a certain type of content. You can start switching to that content. It will initially do very poorly, but onc you get associated with it, it can explode the channel.
Honestly covering these different myths especially the RUclips shorts was extremely helpful. I feel like every year RUclips changes the algorithms so it's hard to know if we are holding on to Old information or we don't have new information yet.
Thanks for tackling the topics of shorts and live streaming on your primary channel. I've been torn about this for months, mostly concerned if I did either it could hurt my VOD content.
I just hit 1k subscribers and it's so nice to hear someone else debunk these myths! So many people just starting out are fed these myths and that's what they believe but it's just not true 👍
I really needed this video man. I've heard so much inaccurate advice it almost makes me scared to try anything new, but now I'm going to start uploading shorts and trying new things. Keep it up Sam!
Honestly needed this a ton... I never really think or see myself getting into shorts, but sometimes when I'm off gaming with friends, little things just happen that maybe I can catch a replay on and post a short for. Thanks Sam!
nailed the posting weekly question. posting weekly is most often recommended because of how it affects and changes the person creating them instead of how RUclips responds. same deal with quality over quantity 🤘
Thank you sam this is really something that helped me out especially the part about ensuring that I develop the habit of creating content regularly. This has been encouraging!
One thing I worry about with my shorts on my main channel is that it makes my uploads page look a bit silly without a proper thumbnail, not sure if that really matters but I like when upload pages have continuity with how all the thumbnails look! Shorts can kinda throw that off a little bit 😅 What an amazing video! Honestly filled me with more confidence as a smaller creator! 🧡
Thank you so much for another great video Sam! You've helped settle a lot of my doubts and issues I've had about creating RUclips content. Appreciate the work you do!
Quality vs. Quantity is an important discussion. I see people all the time where the quality might be a lot lower than what I consider "good". But what they do have is Quantity and consistency. And now they have sponsored videos and are full time creators.
Liked this video immediately so I don’t have a lifetime of bad luck. Early 2000’s email chains trained me for this. Great video brother. This is PACKED with value for new and even old RUclipsrs.
Thank you Sam! I've grown from 4 Subscribers to 170 in a year. Slow but steady progress and I've been following your advice you speak to here. I appreciate your candor
I love the point about quality. There's content quality, video quality, editing quality, and then there is the value to the audience. I think you can have value without the other 3, and you can work on those as you still build up that upload count.
Great video and extremely helpful. I subscribed and liked this all at once (so no bad luck for me LOL)! BTW, I love that you have a lightsaber in the background ✨
I started to learn Resolve based solely on how many times I heard you mention it. Ill be posting my 1st vid (movie review) next week because I want to start using your advice instead of just absorbing it. This shit is hard! Ha!
Sam, you became my only content creator I watch when it comes to growth or helping. Literally stopped watching or caring about any other videos. You’re an awesome guy, keep it up
Great video! It was really helpful. On my channel I'm doing a bunch of content that isn't even remotely related, so it'll be interesting to see if that works out, or if in 6 months I'll be dividing it up. I'm really hoping I can pull it off as a variety channel though. Keep up the awesome work. I love your videos!
As a small channel, shorts have boosted my channel. Since uploading shorts weekly I have been gaining subs at a higher rate. Great video here Sam. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Makes me feel a little better about my struggles, but does it matter WHEN you post? (Times, day, etc?) been trying to post longer content on Monday and shorts on Wednesday. Shorts are getting views, but long form aren’t
Great video man I agree with everything here! Did want to comment on the LUCK piece though. One thing no one talks about, you should do all the "right" RUclips things, thumbs, create for people not systems, be engaging etc etc. BUT most large creators had 1-3 videos that BLASTED off this is where luck comes in those same creators could've created 10 amazing high quality videos but only 1 BLASTED off which propelled them to new heights subscribers, $ etc, this is almost ...I repeat almost ALWAYS the case. So there is some LUCK there, this is just my opinion though. My advice create quality until your 1 video that is just like the others takes off then that new audience finds older same quality content and boom ....you did it. Thoughts?
New subscriber ive been on youtube for years but never really uploaded and now moved fully over to youtube to live stream make videos and really enjoy making youtube shorts only been doing it full time for the last 40 days and grow has been amazing and thank you for this amazing video clearned up a LOT OF STUFF very helpful 👏👏👏👏👏

It looks like you have some great skills and tips in editing and improving the look of your channel in your video library. This is something I don't always get as much from other channels.
Hey i'm not sure if you're done it before or not but how do you go about making Thumbnails? Like what IS a good thumbnail? how do you go about creating thumbnails for videos and what programs do you use? Love yours stuffs thanks for all the information.

One is a tutorial and the other breaks down what makes good thumbnails. Hope they help shed some light. If you still have questions feel free to jump into the discord too.
@@SamWoodhall thanks dude! Your videos have really helped me when it comes to editing and stuff. You really give awesome advice! Thank you again and God Bless!
Couldn't agree more on the quality v.s. quantity question. Quality, and an ability to create quality consistently comes with time, and the time it takes to do that comes shorter with practice. The more you practice, the more you'll find quality over time. Great video Sam.
Quantity over quality in the begining is so true. Otherwise people would never post waiting for the best content. I still work a little this way. Trying to do the best I can with the time I have. Since I post daily, tomorrow I have another shot
I’d switch to RUclips for streaming and short form content if only they would be able to put them on different tabs, When someone clicks on your channel through a short they only see shorts so they get what they want this is great but when a viewer clicks on my channel from a video they see my shorts and streams too I don’t want the valuable space on their screen taken up by content that they aren’t looking for. When they come from a video they wanna see another one, when they come from a short they wanna see another one, when they come form a stream they, well they probably just wanna subscribe cause I can’t imagine having the time to watch multiple full stream vods in one day. I just want them seperated but one one channel, hope that somewhat makes sense. This is the only way I can see shorts having a negative impact on the channel.
#2 I is definitely a big one. Been doing video production for years, started making TikToks, and going through the setup, filming, and editing workflow every day VERY quickly taught me so much more about good lighting, mic placements, editing tricks for speed etc.
Great video Sam! My gaming video has blown up thanks to shorts and my long form content has continued to do better and better as well with keeping it all in one channel.
I’ve been editing up twitch clips into shorts for the past month and my channel has grown significantly since doing that. Also do a weekly live stream as well and again that’s increased my growth. Now I need to get back to my long form content
I'm at a fork in the road. I used to do well with 1k subscribers on gaming live streams. I have since left them unlisted, and began doing half art, and animation and my channel has taken a hit. Do you guys think I should remove my animations and put them on a seperate channel, and continue streaming Gaming on YT/Twitch? Any advice would be great.
I'd recommend making another channel for your gaming and art stuff. Unless you can make them related. Gaming animation and gaming art could work as there is a link. However you could always try a second channel and see how things go. If need be you can keep gaming to Twitch and art and such on RUclips. I'd say experiment and see what you get.
@@SamWoodhall I really appreciate the speedy response. I'll play around with the different options and see what I get. It just got me thinking as you mentioned the umbrella of content and thought maybe the art was killing my channel. They've changed slightly since Spiffing Brit made that video. I think they can perform well on whatever channel posts them, but, being aware of the content niche/style is important.
