    Actually some fresh salmon may still contain parasites, so its safest to use salmon that's been frozen under -20 degrees celcius for longer than a week.

    • @jenwinardi
      @jenwinardi 8 лет назад +11

      +Adam Martinez technically you can just run it under water, but the way sushi joints do it (spoiler alert 99% of sushi restos use frozen fish) is they make a salt solution and rest the fish in it before running it under water and patting it dry. hope that helps!

    It usually takes quite a few years to cook rice, whether it's sushi rice or regular rice, due to steaming the rice instead. My mother has always taught me how to steam rice because it's super fresh and super fluffy!

    I made this at home. it's amazing but it's almost too much food, so I suggest half a burrushi as one portion. very easy to roll, easier than regular sized sushi rolls. I'd also recommended having the filling more mixed together or else you'll get bites of just crab, just avacados or just salmon.

    This is basically a big sushi roll, which call Futomaki in Japanese (literally means 'thick roll').
    I thought this was wrapped in burrito wrapper and have the filling made in Japanese style.
    So I think I will call this Burrito Sushi and the one I mentioned Sushi Burrito...

    Once when I went to buy fish for sushi, I was told by the person selling the fish I should first freeze it for at least 2 days to make 100% sure it's safe to eat. So if you don't live close to the ocean and can get super fresh fish, I would recommend doing so as well.

      Do that most of the time because when I was a kid I used to be really scared of loud noises and this one time the toilet seat fell back down while I was peeing and made a really loud noise and I thought it was because I was too loud with my pee so now I always pee on the side so as not to annoy my toilet seat.

    I feel like sushi is not good if you don't add the soy sauce, it's just not balanced. The soy sauce kind of give you a meatyness in the mouth, the umami and the mouth watering effect of salt, its just not the same whithout it. You could dip this in soy though , but i fear there would be a bit much of rice for the filling, i'm not sure this is improving or even equal to regular sushi. But ! to each his own, some will adore this.

    I know this video is old, but for anyone watching now - they referenced they got this idea in SF. Probably at a place called Sushiritto. At Sushiritto they cover the majority of the second nori sheet with filling, so it ends up a lot bigger than what they made, which seems like a slightly overstuffed sushi roll.

    If you get fresh fish from a big box store like costco and you're worried about bacteria, just freeze the salmon in a super cold deep freeze (-30 degrees F or more) for a few hours. That should kill the bacteria, then thaw it in a bowl of cold running water until you're able to cut it while still semi firm, you get much cleaner cuts on the salmon without your knife sticking.

    • @KaijuRamen54
      @KaijuRamen54 8 лет назад

      Or you could buy flash frozen, vacu-sealed fish. The texture and taste isn't exactly the same as fresh fish, but you use what's available.

    FYI most sushi places use fish that has been frozen to kill the potential parasites. I'm not sure if it's true but have heard that the point of wasabi originally was to kill anything on the raw fish that could make you sick.
