thank you for this. i'm writing a story and my characters in the story are doing a waltz, but i've never done it before! this video will help me to describe things in the story :)
Haha! Funny thing; I'm writing about a man teaching a woman to waltz in my story in which they tried to waltz at a 1940s-style USO dance party in 1981 but the girl can only jive and jitterbug, so she ends up botching the waltz right in the middle. She feels she made a fool of herself, so then the man decides to teach her in private so that she wouldn't stumble around so much. No; it's not like the premise of the movie 'Dirty Dancing'. ;)
Thanks Eglis, perfect and simple, easy to pick up the Waltz steps by you and your partner. I am 75 and wanted to learn and teach my wife too the Waltz. Your video is very helpful to us.
This was extremely helpful. I have waltzed before, but I've never taught it, especially to a man! My fiance and I will be waltzing at our wedding and I'm teaching him. I will teach him exactly this. Wish me luck! Thank you.
Cheers for the Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Miyyan Wenacob Bulldozer (do a search on google)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning the rumba and other popular ballroom dances minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my work colleague finally got amazing success with it.
my wife and I are celebrating our 50th anniversary, and have never learned to waltz. we just sort of winged it. But at this party we want to look nice,to the song we have chosen. THANKN YOU!!!
Had my first dance lesson at a local school yesterday...but this vid really helped me get the heel/toe aspect correct. Fundamental to the whole thing so glad I watched this vid. Thanks Eglis !
Thanks for this! I'm writing a story where one character is teaching another to dance (it's a sort of medieval fantasy setting) and doing research on the dancing steps is a lot of fun. This was really helpful
Great teaching- thank you for the inclusion of the details of the footwork- in just a 5 min video. Awesome!! It would help me to hear your classic music to waltz to because that is what one hears when dancing- I could not hear the waltz beat in this music- but still, great teaching!
Thank you; this was helpful, as I was trying to describe the process of learning it in a story I'm writing... A man in the scene I'm writing is teaching a woman how to waltz, as she has two left feet when it comes to slow dances; the only things she knows are the jive and the jitterbug. So yeah, this was nice the way you broke it down into small chunks; it was easier for me to process than from other videos I've seen. Thanks again!
Thanks a lot man! I actually plan to waltz with the girl I like someday, maybe when I finish high school. I’d really love to dance with her. Thanks again!
I am here in Germany to relearn how to waltz for a wedding. I took ballroom dancing like 40 years ago and I knew it was a 'box' pattern but didn't recall which foot went which direction. This video was perfect for me to learn and teach my fiancee how to, too. Gratis.
I dont like dancing but i am here to learn for just in case. Because everything can happen and i must ready for everything. Thank you so much for this lesson!
Thank you very much. It is very helpful and easy to learn with your teaching way. I am very happy because I am the beginner and I approach the right Waltz by you. Good luck to you and your dancing partner
Hi egils me and my girlfriend Jodie are following your tutorial and we’re thoroughly enjoying learning but we have limited space to turn , we have practised out side and are determined to learn , thank you sir !
Never in my life have I been out at a bar or club and had someone ask me to waltz 😂😂 I've never heard a dj play the waltz either. HOWEVER its essential that you learn or its really hard grasp ballroom terminology 😪😪 like if you can waltz, you already sort of know how to foxtrot 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Nice video. 💙 I have watched a bunch of waltz videos.👞👞 All the ladies start with right foot back. I was wondering why your lady part starts with left foot back? 👠👠
Jessa, thanks for appreciating our video and for interesting question! As you mentioned when we turn to Right ( Natural Box, Natural Turn) then Lady starts with LF back. If we want to do Turn to Left (Reverse Box, Reverse Turn) then Lady starts with RF back. Because Natural Turn is easier to dance together, I start to teach with Natural Figures. Hope it helps! 😀
I'm glad someone else noticed' this twice I have seen this instructor once the quickstep each time he leads with the right foot WRONG!!!'L'm 85 years old still dancing learned my ballroom dancing from the best teachers in England' Gentleman leads with left foot in all ballroom dances' I've been dancing 73 years' these students are being taught wrong.
This is one of the better videos I've seen because it doesn't have a bunch of distracting stuff going on. BUT, I have a huge question - from everything I've seen elsewhere, the steps are inverted - I thought the box step went clockwise, but you are going counter clockwise. I thought the lead starts with their left foot, then right, etc., as in this diagram. So, I'm a bit confused - it's the same as what you do, but mirrored basically. Are these different styles? Is one right or wrong?
We have Natural Box, Natural Turn (turns clockwise). And we have Reverse Box, Reverse Turn (turn anticlockwise).Natural Turn Man starts with Right Foot forward.Reverse Turn Man starts with Left Foot forward. It is generally a good idea that Man starts dancing with Left Foot, and Lady with Right foot. Therefore if you want to start your dancing with Natural Turn, then I suggest to dance Closed Change with Left Foot before. Or start with Preparation step with Left Foot ruclips.net/video/stduQnqTEH4/видео.html
thank you for making it simple and easy to practice. I need your help. I am new to dancing, never danced before. I want to perform a solo lyrical dance at my daughters wedding (one year from now) for the song UPTOWN FUNK. Could you please tell me the best way to learn this lyrical dance. Any advice will be very much appreciated. I want to make my daughter happy by performing very well. Thank you, San
Thanks San for appreciating our waltz video. You want to dance couple dance with your daughter? Or real solo dance. In that case watch tutorial ruclips.net/video/UDG4wPKPR28/видео.html and/or find dance teacher near you.
Hi Egils. I am a total beginner but I love your videos - it such a pleasure to watch and learn with you! One minor question on this one when you do the natural turn in this video by your self you turn 180 degrees in four bars, then when you dance with your partner you do 360 degrees in five bars. I suppose that means the amount of turn is quite flexible, but my teacher is putting a lot of emphasis on 3/8 turns in two bars, so I was not sure what to think! Anyway, many thanks - I am on a one man crusade to drive your number of views :-) Best Regards, Paul
Hi Paul, thanks for enjoying my videos. You have good question. Idea is to increase amount of turn gradually. Usually I start teaching with Box Step without turn. Then we learn to turn Box Step to right with slight turn and after that we learn Natural Box with 1/4 turns to right (or 90 degrees). Then we do Natural Turn with 3/8 of turn to Right per bar (135 degrees). Hope it helps! Best, Egils
Do you always have to face diagonal to the wall when doing reverse or natural turn? and in box turns does it actually needs to face forward to the wall?
Man starts Natural Turn facing diagonally to wall. Reverse Turn - facing diagonally to center. There can be exceptions near corner. Box step we start facing wall, but it’s more like exercise.
thank you for this. i'm writing a story and my characters in the story are doing a waltz, but i've never done it before! this video will help me to describe things in the story :)
Wish you to write great story with realistic details!

Merci Egils, c'est agréable à regarder et très bien détaillé.
How does the leader signal whether the lady should be stepping back with her right or left foot?
When Man before taking step transfers his body weight to say Left Foot, Lady will feel that and will transfer her weight to her Right Foot.
@@EgilsSmagris Thank you for your reply and video! I'm excited to try these steps.
@@EgilsSmagris yes you right I noticed that .. he is wrong... the leader (man) start left foot and lady right foot
