The fact that the two of you have years of experience teaching the Waltz under your belt shows through clearly. I attempted to learn what were supposedly basic Waltz steps some 9 or so years ago and made a mess of it. Your breakdown here though gives me hope that this time I can and will master this graceful dance.
We linedancers do this all the time. Linedances use lot of same figures as ballroom dancers. We have other names sometimes but essentially the same names, we have only more different figures/ steps then ballroom or latin. We call that kind of box a Rumba box forward or reversed, and yes twinkels, the basic, slide sidewards, turns in 3 seconds. Our waltzes always start with left foot. Coming from linedancing to ballroom is easier than starting linedance from ballroom dancing though, I guess. But than again I do linedance for 30 years. By the way we also do partner / couple dances and linedance in .. latin, waltz, rumba, cha, cha, rock and jive,
1:19 the american waltz box, 5:25 the progressive, 7:45 the hesitation (or ballance step) 9:54 the left turning box, 13:04 the right turning box, 15:31 the under arm turn, 19:14 front to front and back to back 23:20 the twinkle *(the promonade) twinkle with chasses!

Once I was at an event and ballroom dancing began, i couldn't do any of the moves. As i more reaggae dancer. A gentleman was kind enough to get me involved by teaching me few moves, but i was messing things up, so i had to appreciate him, stop and watched them. Its great to come across this video. You are truley an experience, competent and so professional in your tutorials. I love it, and to see the mistakes. Just let me more eager to learn. God bless you both.
I aint trying to get better at dancing im crap. Im trying to surprise my girlfriend with a dance. Very nice tutorial. Very good explanation i will try. Good luck gentlemen.
Shhhh.... What missing edit in the video do you speak of? ;-) One time I actually put a video out (via email) where I said a bad word LOL "What the heck is the "****" pattern. Alas we're all too human ;-) Thanks for having fun with us! -B
I actually needed this so bad for our upcoming prom. As a dancer who's used to being in hip hop style/femme style this is very helpful and detailed to me. Though I'm used to being in a different genre, I believe I'll still enjoy ballroom dances as much as I enjoy femme and hip hop! Thank you! 🙌
In Texas, dancing is justc something we do. Texas still has quite a few of our early dance halls. Something that has really changed is the etiquette. Some of the old halls still have up signs to remind people of things like no cursing on the dance floor, no drinking on the dance floor, no sptt

The two of you have experience to teach waltz I rather in person because it will make it easier for me to learn step-by-step. Instead of watching it on RUclips that makes it even harder for me to learn step by step. You bring someone to teach in person I would rather have a partner to do it with me in person as well a while you are teaching. I have been wanting to learn this dance for a really long time
Very good lessons for newbies. Very clear and the repetition and different angles are a great help. Not all ballroom teaching videos on RUclips are easy to learn from, so thank you for yours! Also appreciated the terminology change to leaders and followers and under arm turn as opposed to ladies and men's role titles. I am also having to make these changes in my dance classes.
Thank you for using “leaders” and “followers”! As a same-sex dancing couple, it just makes our day when my part isn’t called the “ladies” part. Thank you!
We're big believers in dancing the role you enjoy. It's been a big shift in partner dancing in the past 10 years. We try to keep our videos as widely inclusive as we can :-) -B
Hello, to start, thank you very much for your videos, I learn a lot from them. On the other hand, if it is not too much to ask, I would like to ask a question. I understand that the waltz is a very broad dance, with many figures, steps, types... My question is, how is the waltz danced? I mean, at an event, if I want to dance with a stranger, how do we agree on the figures and steps? Also, in an opera or a Ball, how do all the people (I think) follow the rhythm with the same choreography? Does anyone know what type of Waltz and what figures to use depending on the music? I hope I have been clear, I appreciate that you read me, I will be waiting for your response.
Hello, That is a great question. In dancing there is lead and follow, and then there is choreographed dancing. In lead and follow the leader will lead the follower through what ever patterns they know and can remember during a dance. It is up to the leader to communicate through the lead to their partner what pattern they are doing. In an opera or show especially with multiple couples, these dancers would be choreographed. A choreographed dance is where there are a step of patterns pre set and practiced before danced in a show. if you have other questions please go to our site www.socialdanceonline.com and email us. 😊
When combining steps in any dance you want to make sure you finish a pattern before starting a new one. Putting a basic (box or progressive) between other moves will help. For this dance the progressive will help you get around the room. Put in other moves when you feel ready.
The leader always starts with the left foot and follower the right foot at the start of every pattern. It is like this in most ballroom dances. Argentine Tango is different.
I am very sorry if I did not give you all the information in this video. Followers will always start with the right foot for every pattern. Hopefully our other videos will have better information for you 😊.
This is almost a great tutorial. It is so easy to follow and replay and you obviously know common missteps and mistakes and warn the viewer of these. I would love to love this, but I was so turned off by the shoe sale comment at the beginning. Ladies can pretend there's a shoe sale over their partner's shoulder? Why would offending half of the class (and probably more than half in actuality) be a good way to begin this video? It really makes 50% of the instructors unlikable from the very beginning. Bad form. I would be embarrassed if I were you.
I'm sorry Aubrey. No offense was meant. I'm sorry if any was taken. When you talk for hours and hours on video to millions of people, there is always the risk of people not liking something. Hopefully people can pull out what is valuable and discard what's not and come out better for it. Best wishes, Brian B PS I wear shoes and who doesn't want a good deal so maybe my comment applies to all of us 🙂

Could you please list the moves in the routine at the end for my brain?
Never-ending! I found it!
Hello, what are the rules when combining the steps? How could it look once you have assembled the steps shown today in a circular dance?
When combining steps in any dance you want to make sure you finish a pattern before starting a new one.
Putting a basic (box or progressive) between other moves will help. For this dance the progressive will help you get around the room. Put in other moves when you feel ready.
Can you please give me the routine list I. Order? I think I have it figured out but want to make sure.
Of course. Here is the order of the routine: Box, progressive, hesitation, face to face back to back, curving box, and chassé.
Brian B.
I like those shoes! what name brand are they and where can I get a pair?
Thanks from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Hey they are port dance. You can find them here danceshoesoftennessee.com
@@SocialDanceOnline awesome thanks!
Why are you starting with the left foot? I learned to start with the right, which is the normal one?
The leader always starts with the left foot and follower the right foot at the start of every pattern. It is like this in most ballroom dances. Argentine Tango is different.
with music please
We have other videos that have music in them. Some might have the same steps.

Es vals vienes o vals ingles?
This is American style waltz not international.
At 4.32 you appear to refer to your left foot as your right foot or did misunderstand.
Haha yes he meant left leg. I Miss Megan am notoriously bad at lefts and rights, so i am so happy that wasn't me. 😉
❤👍👍👍👏
Valse=waltz
A waltz with contact, including hands, should be called 'C Waltz', and a waltz with no contact except hands should be called 'N Waltz'.
That is very interesting 😊
??
Hi, my husband says ,its not fare that the women has to go backward most of the time
Haha maybe we are better at it 😉
She never says what foot the woman uses. He talks to quickly.
I am very sorry if I did not give you all the information in this video. Followers will always start with the right foot for every pattern. Hopefully our other videos will have better information for you 😊.
