Thanks for the video! Even as an avid Magic player, I was still pretty confused and overwhelmed with how they worded the rules. Your video was the first one I came across that wasn't just reading verbatim the same rulebook I'm looking at, while also playing a mock game. I understood it the first time but I'm going to watch it a couple more times to retain the knowledge to help teach my son.
I pre-ordered this the day it was announced and received it 2 months ago . I've been confused as to how the meteor worked but after playing with friends we found a lot of fun.
i have question about lower point cards get their effects to be resolved first at 19:03 . what about the case of "flaming chainsaw"? the card with the point value of 9 and the text says "During this round, all other Point card effects are ignored." So that effect would never work since that is likely to be resolved the last, after all of the other effects resolved...
Thanks for putting this together! Only feedback I'd give is I wish more time was spent on the core mechanics, vs the edge case resolving! For example, I am not sure after playing the number cards which order people get to play their "instant" cards, or if they can play more than one.
There is no order because the order isn't important. You see if everyone is ready to move on and if they aren't then they play a card and so on and so forth
Wow! Great video! I've been so confused about this game. I especially like how you described the meteor card as being EVERY color. Because I kept thinking it was a wild and not understanding why I couldn't choose what color it was!
I have not played it yet, but for the bonuses (+ and -) associated to every dinosaur I think it would be more logical and easier to consider them at the very end of the turn. Because at the end of the day the strengths and weaknesses of the dinosaur do not affect the card, it is his survival while facing the danger. So I think it would make more sense this way and the point cards will not have hidden bonuses like the pan in your example weakened by the cry ceratops, but finally in the hands of stego. So in your example cry ceratops would have 6 (7-1), stego 2 and raging raptor 5 (6-1). Do you think this could make it easier to calculate points?
There is one more question. Suppose player A plays a 0 card named Pet Rock, then player B plays an 8 card named Hungry Plant, and player C plays a normal 1 card. Suppose player A chooses to discard the 9 card in his hand, then his score will become 9, right? If player B chooses to swap the point cards of A and C, how will the points of A and C be calculated? Originally, A:0+9=9, B:8, C:1. A:0, B:8, C:0+9=9? Or A:1, B:8, C:0? Simply exchange the points card, and then the pet rock effect is gone. Or is it A:1+9=10, B:8, C:0? Who will get the pet rock's extra point effect? And C will get 0 cards named Pet Rock or the 9 card that A discarded?
bit late, but since no one else answered it: once pet rock's effect goes off, it's considered to have the point value assigned to it until the end of that round. therefore, when the cards are swapped, player A will have 1 point, and player C will have 9 points since the pet rock's effect has already been activated
The stego is the only dinosaur that gets points from their traits I see when a meteor card is played. Even though all 5 other dinosaurs will have colors represented by the meteor, they all break even and get no points. Wonder if that makes the stego any more or less valuable?
@@guzzlord8485 no, he gets the bonus when the disaster card is a meteor. And since there are only 4 of them, he has no negatives which is nice. Hope this helps
The rules say:if the scores are inverted when multiple players tie for the highest or lowest score, the scores of all players involved are inverted. Later on it reads: inversion effects do not apply to sudden death. What does exactly the last statement mean?
I would like to ask about the timing of the instant card, for example, if player A has 5 points and player B has 6 points, then player A plays the inverse card first and then player B plays the booster card to himself. This way, A and B first exchange points to A:6 and B:5, then B adds 2 points, and finally becomes A:6 and then B:7. Or B first add two points to become A:5 and B:8, then exchange points again, finally become A:8 and then B:5 In short, is the inverse card first played first exchange, after playing out the booster and stapper will not be exchanged, or to wait for everyone's booster and stapper are calculated and then exchanged.
There is a two Player suggestion to modify the rules in the manual. The modification suggestions are: - remove all point cards with value 1,2 or 3 from the main deck - eliminate a player only after collecting four disaster cards of the same type or two of each of the three types.
Oh I pre-ordered this game month ago and they had a bundle offer that would include those sleeves by paying a bit more. Maybe they have them for sale on their Unstable Games website now
Thanks for the video. It explains the rules better than the paper, but it's very clear, this is a complicated card game. Try explaining to an 8 yr old all the points, dino effects, special instructions on the number cards, insta cards then to have the lows tie and battle it out, but then there's an inversion between the high and low scores, JUST to get through one round. This is too complicated for adults, rather less children!
You made it a lot clearer for me but this game is very disappointing for my little guy bc the rules are all over the place and confusing for most kids on the lower age range
Nope! Only the person who won (or if there was a tie for first, all players who won). However, all players do advance spaces based on how many disaster cards they have (1 for each one they have) even if they did not win the round
I don’t understand the 0 card? It says when you play it you can discard a number card and add it to your score total. Why wouldn’t you just play the number card without playing the 0 card? Is the 0 card just garbage you want out of your hand?
The way I see it, it is essentially an extra card for you to draw for next round. Because this game always lets you draw until you have 5 cards before the next round begins, the more cards you use, the more new cards you can draw. Therefore, if you don't use that 0 card and instead just play the other number card, you are keeping a card in your hand that is doing nothing. Conclusion: always play the 0 card immediately and then use the other number card through its effect so you can draw 2 cards next turn instead of 1. This will increase your chances of drawing better higher numbers or instants next round
@@DeltaShinyZeta In fact, the purpose of the 0 card is that when everyone turns it over together, you can see how many points the other players have played, so you can decide how many points to play to win the turn, which allows you to win more strategically and with just the right number of points, and save the bigger points for the next turn.
Probably won't get a quick answer but what happens if someone play the upside down Dino card to switch the card with the highest and lowest after scoring but there are two poeple who are tied for highest. Can't seem to find and answer for this.
It states that if there are two tied for the lowest score, then the two will have the same score after the switch and the highest score gets one. i.e. If there are two cards with 3 and one with 9, and the swap card is played, the two 3s become two 9s and the one 9 becomes one 3. I assume the opposite like you suggest is the same. The one 3 would become one 9, and the two 9s become two 3s. Hope this helps!
Being a twin I gotta figure out who was born first so I can figure out who can finish this turn, been searching for answers for days. WHERES MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE 😢
Hey thanks for the video it helped our first game cuz the rules are a little confusing. I have a question how do you play the special star fruit? I mean it effect will affect All the booster regarding the player that plays the fruit or will ONLY affect the booster from the player that play the fruits?
Dang it, you didnt cover what i wanted to see. You didnt cover the +/- 2 cards and when the inversion card comes into play. If the inversion card is played before or after those +/- 2 cards are played.

That was very helpful, the written scoring instructions on point movement at the end of the round were murky to me. Thank you for clearing that up!
Oh my, thank you!!! Scoring order has been driving me nuts, so thankful to hear some definitive instructions.
I pre-ordered this the day it was announced and received it 2 months ago . I've been confused as to how the meteor worked but after playing with friends we found a lot of fun.
Yeah agreed! Very fun!
Very helpful!! Thank you! Far better than the official how-to-play video.
Glad it helped!

Do you know when they are calculated? Can't figure out who gets to play score inversion
@@Blacksheep-uy3qv calculated after as stated in the instructions

Finally found a good explanation. Got the game a few weeks back but couldn't figure it out

What do you do when you place the same card as the other player?
Like for example i put down a 7 and someone else also puts dwon a 7?

great question. no wonder no one has answered it lol
First come first served for instant cards.
Got in a huge argument over that card last night. Came down to us just making a house rule that it is played after all other instant cards are played.
Thank this was so much help me and my buddies couldn't figure it out
How do you play the expansion with the hazards one?
Wouldn't 2 player games end in 4 rounds ie you get a disaster card red green meteor then any other card you will be done ??

Who take first the cards at the end of the round?
I don't believe it matters. The rule book does not specify how, and in the end it is random anyway since the deck is face down :)

So do all players advance on the board each round (if applicable)? Or is it only the person who won that round that proceeds?
Nope! Only the person who won (or if there was a tie for first, all players who won). However, all players do advance spaces based on how many disaster cards they have (1 for each one they have) even if they did not win the round

Funny thing the d8nosore in middle of the box is the only one that looks happy
I didn't actually notice that. So true!
That's because he has an unfair advantage, no minus effect! 😆
Where did you get the Pokémon play made
I got it from amazon. You can search on their website for something like "eevee playmat"
So you still move your meeple forward the number of disasters you currently have on your board even if you win a round?
Correct!
Nice! Thank you.
I’m sorry if I missed it but I’ve been wondering what the meteor symbol on the steel does?
The card sleeves are really nifty! Where did you get those?
They were included with the pre-order :) But I think you can buy them separately as well from the Unstable Games website
