I watched this game live stream, it was kind of the reflection of the Nats 2019 season: First down, next up, the true definition of "the team of destiny"
This was really when we all realized in DC how special this team could be. "Team of destiny" tends to be overused, but this one turned the tide for the Nats.
An entry I would recommend for this series: PHI@ATL, May 8, 2021. • Vince Velasquez vs. Ian Anderson • Acuña hit by pitch, exits game • Pablo Sandoval game-tying HR on final strike pitch in 9th • Brandon Kintzler escapes jam in 10th • Nick Maton RBI 2B, then Ehire Adrianza tying infield hit in 11th • Phillies score 2 on error in 12th • William Contreras bases-clearing 2B ties it in 12th • Adrianza wins it in 12th This crazy game was one of the reasons the Braves beat Philly for the division in 2021. This eventually led Atlanta to the 2021 World Series.
Imagine telling Mets fans that in 3 years they’d have deGrom and Scherzer on the same team, and then end up losing deGrom in FA to the Rangers the following offseason only to get Verlander for 2 yrs 86.6, Correa for 12 yrs 315 mil, Jose Quintana for 2 years 26 mil, resigning Nimmo to 8 yrs 162 mil, Resigning Edwin Díaz to a 5 year 102 mil, and Kodai Senga, as a Rangers fan I can easily say one of the best offseasons we’ve seen, even after signing deGoat it’s been crazy Breaking: Mets are concerned w/Correa’s physical
I have some suggestions for the next Forgotten Classics : DET vs TEX - 2011 ALCS game 2 SD vs COL - 2007 NL Wild Card Tiebreaker SEA vs HOU - 2022 ALDS Game 1 TB vs BOS - 2008 ALCS game 5 DET vs BOS - 2013 ALCS game 2 LAD vs TB - 2020 World Series Game 4 NYY vs MIN - July 23, 2019 CIN vs ATL - May 20, 2010 CLE vs CWS - May 9, 2022 And STL vs PIT - July 11, 2015
As a Mets fan, i’m gonna choose to stop watching at 7:01. No reason in particular. But seriously, this is when we should’ve known this team had destiny on their side to go on one of the craziest playoff runs ever. From the wild card game to winning their first series to taking it all the way in Houston, it was magical.
This might not be the most forgotten game out there, but I sure have done my best to forget it!
It’s almost comical how the Mets, despite their best efforts, continue to fuck things up.
same

Year of destiny. And the season started off with so many blown saves.
I don’t think this a forgotten classic people remembered this historic comeback.
I think what people forget is the Mets actually won this series.
