Build your own inexpensive rebar bender

- I am renovating an old house in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Needed to design a rebar bender with stuff laying around the house. A forged eye bolt and an old beam fit the bill. Total cost, about $4.00. I get my inspiration from the people in the 1800's that built this house. (They built walls using the tops of telegraph poles and boards from a wooden boxcar.)
Ha! All these complicated and expensive machines for bending rebar on all the other channels and this guy does it with a $2 eye bolt. Classic. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it.
Have you seen the price of oak lately?! ;)
The two dollar eye bolt was NOT the biggest cost involved here.
That guy standing there with his hands in his pockets- get him to stand on one end of the jig, now he's of some use.☺
liked the opening shot of the van and the random guy looking on.
m o'g i was expecting him to do something..
I was trying to bend some 1/2" rebar on an anvil, or with my vice, and the rebar was winning... Then I saw this video and did the forehead palm slap thinking "This is such a simple straight forward idea, why didn't I think of it myself?!?!?!". I used a 4x4x6' pressure treated, the forged bolt, a couple of flat & fender washers on the bottom side, and was done in minutes!!! It bent the rebar better than expected! My only addition: If there's less than 12" of rebar laying on the wood, put a piece of metal (I used a scrap piece of 6" c-channel) under the end so it won't dig into the wood.
Simple, elegant and inexpensive solution. Thanks for improving my life.
Pete. You are most welcome. Glad to be of help.
Buddy. That's a damn good tool.
I can't help but laugh when I watch this video! Hands down the simplest/best diy rebar bender I have seen out there! Thank You Sir!!!

Cheapest solution around! Easiest too! Seems to work on both 3/8" and 1/2" rebar. Thanks a ton!

WTF is John Goodman doing there in the back?
Easy Peezy, Great Idea, No mess no Fuss !
Thanks buddy! That is brilliant. I think I'll use a heavier eye bolt with longer projections on the 6x6. Cheers and good luck.
Thank you. You are most kind. Regarding the forged eye bolt-I bent a lot of rebar with that design and never had a problem-so far.
I used trailer hitch on my truck, and pipe. Same principle, very easy
I was starting to think this country and planet were headed down a strange path.....and then I found this video
Thank you for your comment.
A pipe with a hole in it??? Fascinating….
Another brilliantly simple expedient. Thanks!

I have been in construction for 40 years, thanx for making me feel stupid.LOL
Glad you liked it. The place where I am renovating this house is about 25 miles from civilization. You have to use what you have--scrounge and build from what you have laying around.
Thanks for sharing great idea!
Good stuff
Best one yet!

Where can I get a pipe with a hole in it?
Just kidding.
Great idea.
Lol! I like reading the comments.. feels like i was back at the Marine barracks visiting my boyfriend.. ur hilarious..
You can't help but laugh!!
Genius
Thanks for the $$ saving idea! Dude in the camo totally rocked it. But, maybe next time, choose a hot babe to stand there and watch you to get your view up.
I'm guessing bend diameter is unimportant here.... Be sure to review ACI 318 if the code weenie is watching. ;-)
Don't all pipes have holes in them?
Joe Monroe NO. It's very rare. The pipe has a hollow not a hole. Also he probably meant a notch on the end. A notch would help keep it centered and not slip.
That's funny. Thanks.
I fix pipes with holes in them.
Some don't, that's when you call a plumber, LOL!
Not when you laying pipe.
Man you are one smart son of a bitch thanks for sharing you just save me from having to buy a rebar Bender
amazing!! what can i do when trying to bend a U bar (6mm), tight radius
barrilete cosmico!
That's only good for one bend. You can't get a second bend that way
Or you could have cut the pipe in half and used the two pieces to bend the rebar. Price = free.
Now that's what you called homemade. Too many dam videos saying home made and they got all these different machines and welders to make something. Your side man doesn't think this is a good idea😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you. You are right Lee.
if you have an excavator near by bend it in the bucket
How to frame raise foundation
What size is the bar? 3/8. Or 1/2 ?
1/2 inch
Can this technique bend #5 rebar?
So long as the hole in the forged eye bolt is large enough, the eye bolt is strong enough and the hole in the pipe is the right size, it should work.
Oak is expensive
It was just laying there when we bought the place, you can’t beat free, lol
Now cut it with your buttcheeks ... lol jk good idea
can't bend the "S'' shapes.
Perfect. The video I was looking for.
Love it
