I’m considering to move to the US when I qualify, it’s really good your honest about these things. Sometimes we assume everything going to be rosey. However there’s a lot that comes with moving abroad to a US hospital.
My friend's preceptor didn't like him throughout he kept complaining to the manager but he was not listened to. So, he looked for a lawyer and buyed himself out. The good thing is he was with a direct hire agency so the buyout pay was not that much. Now he is with another hospital and they treat him better
I think the best way to go about this is to be humble and also show confidence during your preceptorship period which actually takes like 6 weeks.Avoid showing any negative attitude or talking behind your preceptor back because definitely there is no secrets here and they will actually know it the same day.Be a person of few words avoiding sharing too much about you.Avoid asking very basic questions which everyone expect every nurse to know coz this will create an opinion u don't know anything.Be smart, google some things to avoid being over depended to your preceptor. This is my view and it is what I did and I was actually removed from preceptorship period early because they said I am good alone.
It’s pretty common in North America Nursing. I remembered when I was student doing my clinical replacement, the preceptor could decide whether you are competent or not. In another word, the preceptor can fail you for any reasons. Then you have to repeat the courses.
I know you've worked so hard to get here. Thank you for coming here and taking care of us. Please keep your head up and stay strong. You got this! Hugs!!!
Sometimes, it takes one a while to learn things that others may learn quickly. For somethings use google and RUclips videos. Sometimes, it maybe the difference in accents. Speak a bit slower if you speak fast and you might need to speak a bit louder if you're soft spoken. There are good preceptors and EVIL preceptors too. The nursing environment can be very toxic. So, be aware of negative environments, avoid sitting in nursing stations that have two or more gossiping, complaining (all the time), be brief about personal matters, sit in the work stations along the hallways, be a team player. Don't go out with your colleagues at work, unless it's someone you know personally and don't take part in any discussion about colleagues. A lot of those nurses(women usually), gossip about each other, when one of them is not there the others talk evil stuff about them, then when another one is away, they talk evil about them. So, just do your damn and go home. Your current circumstances are not permanent. Learn from it/them. All the best transitioning nurses!!!
