The parking brake is on the correct side when the steering wheel is on the correct side
More bongs than a cafe in Amsterdam 🤣
More mongs than a cafe in Manchester
...urghh, this sticky keymoard!
Skin up ffs
These videos are great baked tbf
My mum had one of the first right hand drive jeep Cherokees back in the late 90s. It had a great 4.0 petrol engine. Love the video
Those 4.0's were pretty good
@@HighPeakAutos Specialists in US get amazing BHP from the 4.0
Had a great one of those, brilliant car and every bit as good as a discovery of the same year.
A work colleague swore by these cars - he was on the Northumbria Mountain Rescue team and often said these cars can go anywhere and its like driving around in your own front room.
His last one had the Merc engine and, as you say, avg 27-28 mpg.
He liked holidays in remote places, especially Sweden - though I suspect he was seeking out the blonde girl from Abba.
Never went to San Francisco, so missed out on the loose oranges!
Always loved the Grand Cherokee and have had three of them, two 4 litre and one 4.7 V8, great cars
I love my 2008 WH CRD and have done so for many years - I go off road as I'm a Gold prospector pulling a Camper. Brilliant in the bush and quick and smooth on the highway.
I have this model and I absolutely love it. The fuel economy is great but I love the styling and much prefer this to a freelander. Love the channel
Thanks for sharing!
I want to buy this model 2006 , is good car? How is the fuel consumption. Please 🙏 advice me
hey matt awesome video, i have a 2006 crd which i bought 3 years ago for £1500 with 140k on the clock and its been nothing short of fantastic, all ive done is a set of tyres/discs and pads and a full big service. ive been everywhere in it and it has never let me down.
you say about interior quality, ok so its plasticy and chunky but it wears very well and everything has a purpose. my favorite bit inside are the visual parking aids on the dash and rear roof (visible from rear view mirror) what an awesome idea.
i do have a soft spot for the 6.1 srt so if one comes up for the right price then its mine lol.
i believe i sent you some pics of my crd for the latest rate my ride you did along with my impreza.
keep up the good work and stay safe
I ran a used MK 3 Grand Cherokee for three years, I loved it despite the fact that repairs cost me £6000 during that time, mostly engine related (MB 3.0 V6 diesel). Sold it with 65000 miles on the clock. The amazing thing with it though was it would still tow a 1500kg caravan at 60mph in limp mode!
The 5.7 hemi is the pick of the bunch, decent handling on the road due to firmer suspension. It still has all the off road features the SRT lacks. Pop on an LPG conversion and it's as cheap to run as the diesel but without the turbos, egr or DPF to go wrong. Also it's pretty quick when you need it to be and sounds glorious 😁
Had one on a 06 plate for 5 years and it tugged my caravan like it wasn’t on the back. Just a bit thirsty but absolutely loved it.
When I lived in Canada I owned two Grand Cherokee Limiteds. The first was the 3.6litre V6 which was absolutely brilliant. I drove it for three years from new then switched it for a 5.7 litre V8. I quickly found I didn’t need the extra power as the 3.6 was more than adequate and the 5.7 was so thirsty you couldn’t pass a petrol station. It cost me a fortune in fuel so I got rid of it after a couple of years. I really enjoyed the vehicles. They were great to drive, just like driving a big comfortable car and really well equipped. They were, however, Chryslers and the finish quality was a bit iffy so you had to get use to the rattles and squeaks and the occasional bit falling off. All in all though great cars and as you said incredible value.
I have an '07 Limited with the Hemi + Quadradrive II package, I bought it when it was 2 years old for a bit over half the original price. It turned out to be one of my favorite vehicles ever. Few problems for a 14 year old vehicle. I've done the starter, front diff bushings, rear pinion seal, a few brake jobs, shocks, and one of the power modules (totally integrated power module under the hood). Less problems than our older '98 Grand Cherokee 4.0. The power is great, the 4x4 system is great, day to day reliability is fine. Everyone is telling me to get a Wrangler or Gladiator but I am reluctant to give up my Hemi. Fast, comfortable, fairly roomy, great for any weather.
Great video. Very balanced review. I had an 05 year model some years ago and loved it despite it having a few technical issues. Just purchased an 08 year model and I am really looking forward to driving it.
i’ve been in the srt8. It is insane! The way it puts its power down is just mental. 6.1 naturally aspirated i belive. It sounds amazing too
I bought a 2008 facelift in August 2021 and love it, overland spec and fully loaded, I've had a couple of wj's and this is my first wk, looking forward to a snowy winter, the important thing is to have it fully serviced, diffs and transfer case requires special oils and additives if you have quadradrive2 system, elsd front and rear
I used to sell Jeep/ Chrysler brand new around 2007-2009 and they were a massively underrated product. I would have a Grand Cherokee without hesitation if I wanted an SUV. As you said, great value for money!
Love these videos. Not long ago bought the E53 X5 based on your review. Glad I did. I'll keep watching for sure.
Recently looked at the newer shape, very nice car. Great review Matt.
I have a 2005 CRD and I love it
They are bulletproof right up until you drive them through 4 ft of water!! I’ve just got mine back with a new engine - still love it but I’ll get a snorkel if I’m off-roading again!
I’ve had my 2007 WK from new. It’s done 110,000 miles with only service parts. Still looks like new and drives beautifully. No way I’d let mine go for 3k or even 5k come to that. She’s a keeper
Brill review again thanks. My niece is running a thirteen-year-old one and loves it. Puts Discos and Disco owners in their place.
Guys a legend i love this channel .... id love to buy my next car off him as he seems to genuine
I bought one in September last year as a temporary tow vehicle for work. Great comfortable drive, the family loved it. Sold it 3 weeks ago and bought a 16 plate ranger.
Very nice!
Bought a mk4 Grand Cherokee Limited S v6 diesel last month. Absolutely love it, so comfortable, comes with everything you need, amazed that even had a 30gb hard disk built in too. One other thing the road tax on this newer model is still only £330 too.
Love the videos, ‘burger van drivers’ classic quote 😛
Yeah thats right. I like them, genuinely

Thing is with your videos, it takes a few to get used to your style, but once you're there you're there 😊 so once you get subscribers, you're unlikely to lose them.
98.6k subscribers!! Nearly at the 100k mark matey congratulations, I remember my neighbour having a purple cheroke and it was rusty as hell, always thought it was such a cool big car to own especially being a child seeing my neighbour drive this as a daily
So close! Thanks!
I had one almost identical for 3 years. Used it for everything and all that went wrong was an abs sensor. EBay and all sorted. Good car but the earlier square ones are seriously going up in value!
I’ve owned a 2007 WK Overland from new. It’s towed a 7m power boat all over Europe, recently I towed a 3 Ton sports cruiser to Greece. It’s never let me down and I’ve hardly spent anything on it in 16 years of ownership.
I've owned 2005 model WH for a bit over 3 years now and absolutely love it. It has that 5.7 hemi in it, because I wanted a V8 even when the diesel would've been more sensible version considering our petrol is 2 euros/liter at the moment... 😬 But it's just so awesome vehicle and very much fun. Recently I lifted it and got hidden winch mount (and winch) waiting to be installed, since plan is to make it family overlander (with camper trailer behind it). I've been driving different vehicles for past 20 years and gotta say this WH certainly is the most fun I've ever had. Sure it's a Jeep and comes with certain problems, but when you consider it as a hobby-vehicle (despite being a daily) you really don't mind working on it, if you're into that stuff. And I am. No regrets 😁
Once again a very well balanced appraisal of a good value 4x4. I certainly agree if you have the need of a practical four wheel drive tow car, particularly if the budget is a bit limited, you would have a job to beat the Grand Cherokee.
Excellent video and thanks. That’s given me all the info to warn me off these earlier models.
Would be interested now in your views on the newer models.
Congrats Matt! It is actually the only RUclips channel that I'm subscribed to
Thank you! Thats reassuring :)
As a former owner of a 57 reg, you nailed it. Loved that car but after 100k miles each repair bill was between £500 and £1000. Mind you, only paid £24k as a pre-reg when RRP was £31k OTR. I set the mpg "journey 1", and never cancelled it off, found I got an average of 22mpg over our ownership. Could get 29mpg on the motorway at 80, about 12mpg around town on short runs. Fond memories, thanks for bringing them back.
Thanks for sharing
Just got 213K original freeway miles on my 2007 JGC Laredo Limited! Still runs strong well maintained and a keeper! Love her! 👍🏽
My grandpa got a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK (2005) new and he gave it to me a few years ago. 230k km on it, i do nearly 100km/day and often use it offroading. Threw some KO2 tires on it and it’s a beast! Love it, besides the 16L/100km 😂
I have always liked the styling on these, I like the look of boxy off-roaders like these, also someone in my town has 2 of these 1 of which with a 5.7L hemi V8
They sound great
Someone, eh?
Don’t tell me - he lives in the same road as you in a remarkably similar house? 😁
Had the diesel 3.0 Merc engine ,great car then 5.7 litre HEMI with aftermarket exhaust and induction kit sounded like thunder what a beast great 4x4 for the money!
I drive a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and it's bloody brilliant. The reassuring Merc logos and part numbers all over the engine and gearbox are very ... reassuring. I can forgive some cheap plastics. Been in a 2010 merc ML recently? They are not aging very well. And I'm a big merc fan. Yeah. The big Jeep is a decent old brute. Good video.
I had a 2003 GC overland quadratrac with 2.7 Merc 5 cylinder diesel ( mark 2) ….really impressive off-road and and pulled my 3 ton boat easily….probably the best all rounder and most comfortable car I’ve owned and I’d love another one!
Having owned my one for 14 years and 127,000 miles now, I totally agree, this is a good car to run as a daily driver and a long term investment
My mum had the SRT Grand Cherokee. It was a brilliant car
had the overlander on 07 plate back in 2010 had it for 5 years, loved every minute driving it and yes had the caravan, very few issues in the 5 years i had it, good clean review,
Thanks for sharing!
Another great review. ...
Matt....you could sell snow to Eskimos. ...& your jokes are funny too!.. Keep up the good work!
Sold my 2007 GC 2 years ago. Was Overland version with diesel engine and it was the best thing I have ever owned.
I had a 2004 Mk 2 GC (after a Disco 2) - by comparison - it was amazing value and a great family car. Personally preferred the looks over the Mk 3 but I agree that the new mk 4 looks great. Another great video Matt - 100k subs will be hit in no time
mk4 is so pretty, just wish it was a Merc engine again instead of that VM crap
I do like the mk4 so could you review that one next please.
Nice car and great review again 👍
I have owned my 2005 for 7 years. have 240k miles on it and it runs great. for me it is easy to work on and I have rebuilt it from front to back and top to bottom. It didnt need it but i had a choice to either spend 40k for something newer or 5k for a complete rebuild. I did all the work so it was not expensive. The bad part for me is that nav/radio system. It broke years ago but no loss there.
Let's get this man too 100K!! Well done Matt you've come a very long way. Great content as always, all the best.
Thanks!
Thank you. My dad had the old square 4.0 6cylinder, great off road though. Cheers
I’ve had two and they’ve both been spot on. Mercedes 3.0 engine is powerful and reliable and the 4WD system does the business without being over complicated with endless choices. It’s a bit crude but gets down the road ok and is way more reliable than an LR Disaster as my next door neighbour will confirm. Just check out RUclips vids of them off-road and they are beasts if you modify them.
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7 liter V8 engine. Gas mileage is dismal (anywhere between 11 and 19 mpg) but it's very comfortable and capable in any type of weather. No need to change tires if I head up to Tahoe for some snow fun! (I'm in Northern California, and have all season tires). 213,000 miles and going strong. As to the handbrake, that's obviously from the left hand drive, Chrysler didn't bother to change it over to the right hand driver position for the UK.
Great stuff as normal mate 🙏🙏 Bring on that 1000 k 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks! Fingers crossed!
As usual, an informative yet entertaining and light hearted Vid, thank you..
I own one of these Jeeps and you make a very fair review.
In my opinion any owner needs to be proactive with the maintanance and they will be pretty reliable. Use only the proper fluids and Mercedes spec oil. I also agree with you about premium diesel.
Well said!
I actually had a 2009 Chrysler 300C SRT8 a couple of years ago, with that 6.1 V8 Hemi engine. What a machine. 0-60 in 5 seconds dead, with enough mid-range grunt to reverse the Earth's rotation. If it had been fitted with AWD or at least a LSD I have little doubt it would have been around 4 seconds 0-60. It was a bit like seeing Robbie Coltrane run a 9.5 second 100m sprint.
The 5 speed auto fitted to many Chryslers & Jeeps is from the W210 Merc E Class, a pretty bulletproof unit
Well done mate!!!
Absolutely delighted for you. Well deserved.
Wishing you continued success!! 👍🙂
Thank you!
Used to have a silver srt park out front of the pub i used to work at years back and only today did a 6.4 new tuned srt just disappear at the lights! I’ve never seen anything move so fast just wow!
Love it mate, keep the cars coming!!! 👌
Another great video Matt, thank you. 👍
It's a vehicle that I've always liked it's looks, but always thought it looked as if it weighed about 10 ton and would do about 2 miles to the gallon, that's the main reason I never seriously considered one.
Thanks 👍 They're not bad on fuel really. No worse than anything else similar
I like the dash. Didn't think I would but it looks alright.
Having family in the North East USA I have driven several of these in all weather conditions. The thing I like the most is the beating they can take. Most Americans only visit a mechanic when something fully breaks or the car won't start and it's hard to get one of these to that state. I've driven a couple with a shagged gearbox, 300k miles and a lot of rust and they just keep going.
Very good point
Had one as a hire car in USA, a weenie 5.7L - I actually quite liked it which was a surprise.
Congratulations on hitting 100,000 subscribers, which will be by mid-march.
Your channel is refreshing, with no ego and being another 'great northerner' on RUclips.
Wow, thank you! Thanks for the support
A very nice comment 👍 tbh I think he will hit 100,000 by Tuesday of this coming week he`s only 200 short as we speak.
And that is my favourite Jeep!
I like the Wrangler too but I'm referring to the 4.0 6Pot petrol 2 door variety 😁
One thing you should have mentioned is the swirl valves clogging on the crd, it’s a known flaw even Mercedes says so. But you can easily disable them and keep them wide open.
I've had and driven the first two genrations and loved them, yeah they are simple and American feeling... but I like that ! interestd in a hemi WK now.
Awesome insight and cracking advice Matt you could have and run your own car show and it would be huge success. Looking forward to more👌🚙😎
Thanks!
For a laugh, next time you see a Landrover owner, say "I like your Jeep mate". For some reason, that really anoys them. I don't know why they are so competitive ;)
Hahaha
I do: Because they think their vehicles are more relia... oh wait, that can't be right
Jeeps are the brash, vulgar version of a classy, restraint landrover
Or...For a laugh, next time you see a JEEP owner, say "I like your Fiat mate".
In most of Africa, every SUV is referred to as a Jeep. It doesn't matter what make and model it is, if they see your SUV or crossover, they'll call it a jeep. It's kinda annoying.
tested 2 days ago with a 0/100kmh ( 0/60mph) app with gps speed calibration, and i did a nice 7.7sec with this engine !! i love this engine. and with a cool driving my fuel consumption is around 9.5l/100km (30mpg)
Really interesting thanks. Got my eye on a 5.7.
I'm in the states and have a 2004 WJ. The handbrake is annoyingly on the passenger side(but I still love it). You guys got to have it on the "correct" side in the WJ. In this WK it was our turn to have it on our "correct" side. :D
Not sure what you mean - my JGC Overland had a central handbrake.
Weird.
Subscribed yes, liked offcourse, healthy and heartliy laugh on the epic one person banter, checking wallet for purchase, working on progress, thank you HPA!
Thanks for watching!
Having completed another excellent review Matt, please take a moment to savour being on the eve of hitting the glorious six figured number of Subscribers. Very well deserved indeed. All the best from Mauritius.
Thanks! It always amazes me when I discover people are watching from such far away places. All the best
These were built when Diamler owned Chrysler and it shows. The passenger side has the hand brake because that was set up for the American left side steering wheel. I bought this style Jeep new in 2006 thinking I would keep it a few years; I still have it.
Love ‘em, highly recommended. Go Overland spec though, def worth it.
I agree 100% love mine
Had a mark one bought from Jayemm (You may know him) This was for a charity drive round the UK, nearly 3000 miles in four days. This was a bargain basement £499 car. What really impressed was the seats, the most comfortably I have every had the pleasure of. They did not look so good but given that experience I am drawn frequently to these later models so thanks. Now heading off to Autotrader!
great review, i have 3.0crd s-limited, very good car
Another excellent video mate quite like the grand cherokee, really glad your almost at 100k
Thanks 👍
More bings than 'Brian Bidonde' ya missed that one bro! 😎 these shows just keep getting better and better (don't think I've missed one review yet) keep it up sir! 😎👍
Glad you like them!
Nice car . Appreciate the review
The only problem we noticed with them is the same problems we have with the ML and Eclass you have to change the transmission circuit board and plug 🔌 that leaks oil it’s a very easy fix and you can do it for well under 500 I think the fox is 300 in parts
I see the Grand Cherokee as a competitor to a Land Cruiser because they both are off road capable vehicle and at the same time comfortable to drive on road too which the wrangler doesn't offer.
Comes with a land rover key in the cup holder too...cool.
I like it a lot it’s one of those cars you just kind of forget was made which is a shame and they are so cheap to buy
Ahhhhhh!! 99.9k subscribed. Just a few more!
First time I've been genuinely delighted that someone is hitting this milestone.
Can't wait for the 100k vid!!
Thank you! I appreciate it
@@HighPeakAutos I should be thanking you for the absolutely epic content. You're playing a stormer and you deserve all the success you get. 👍🙂
@@animalcol1 very kind of you. Cheers
Really nice review in my opinion. The handbrake thing though is the price you pay for driving on the "wrong" side of the road :D. Jeep was could not be bothered to make center console layout for both left and right hand drives. They made only for left hand drive and stuck them in all models, irrespective of where the driver sits.
Keep going (from a 20k subscriber) keep answering comments and doing what you do👍
Thanks for the support
I shall be following you down the path of Rangerover 405 series ownership, my search will begin in a month or two.
The hand brake is in the same location on left-hand drive cars. They didn't move it over for the U.K. Thanks for your honest, no-hype reviews.
Thanks for the info!
There was the Jeep Commander which was a 7 seater and was based on the Grand Cherokee but only sold for a few years from 2006 to 2010
I've not owned one but certainly like them.
Been looking to get one of these for a while. I've heard about the off road capabilities of quadra drive, but wasn't sure about the overall quality of the car. Guess I'm gonna get one now that Ive heard your all round review. Congrats on 100K man
Thanks! They’re genuinely pretty decent cars
The 3.7 litre Petrol was the Cherokee engine, not the Grand Cherokee (at least not in the UK). It is essentially the same engine with 2 pistons lopped off. Petrol you could get a 4.7 V8, a 5.7 V8 and the SRT version was a 6.1 V8, and the mpg on that is dreadful but not as bad as you might think. Certainly not 8mpg! I have a Cherokee KJ (Liberty in the US) with the 3.7 V6 - I love it. I know you hate it, but it's very good at what it does.
Being originally built as a Left hand drive Yank Tank I'm guessing that they kept the handbrake on the that side as a cost cutting measure for RHD export models. Keep up the good work fella.
Yup, my 2007 (Canadian) WK handbrake is were it should be.
Obviously, Chrysler was too cheap to bother moving it🙁
The previous gen that i had had the handbrake on the passenger side, even though it was a left hand drive us model. I never saw that as a negative thing, because im tall and it was more comfortable for me
Would you review the next version from that one, been thinking of buying one of the newer ones, I really like the shape. This review was great by the way, great humour.
We have a 09 CRD wonderful car. As well as a 2018 CRD 75 year anniversary. Totally understand
More bongs than a cafe in Amsterdam>>>>>>brilliant>>>>>> really like that jeep>>>>👌👌👌👌
I love my wk crd tbh. Sort out the induction and the v6 sounds really good
If i'm not mistaken, the underpinnings of the Grand Cherokee are from the Mercedes ML and GL of the period, a holdover from when Mercedes owned Chrysler for 5 minutes.
I have owned several off-roaders and Jeep GC pretty much beets them all and mk3 is among jeeps best! Its stylish, fast super comfy compared by rest and quadra drive will be az good as G-wagons. And rust is no issue too not mentioning that Mercedes diesel and gearbox are torkie and will last many miles with regular maintenance.
