It makes me feel quite weird. Lisa's hometown is 'Buri Ram Province' in the Northeast of Thailand (the sculpture you see in the bridge part represent 'Prasat Phanom Rung', a famous landmark in Lisa's hometown). While you guys can analyse that sound of Thai instruments in that part, but the melody sounds like from 'the Southern of Thailand' (or even sound of 'Pi Shawa' that's often use for Indian style), or typical some Arab melodies that often use by Teddy (Lisa and Blackpink's Producer). Which's not alike an urban melody from the Northeast of Thailand. You could hear a similar melody in ' I'm the Best' from the old girl group from YG '2NE1' too, or even in the rap part of Lisa in 'How you like that'.
@@diegoanthonyherrera9952 It's not an exclusive for whom. My point is it makes me feel quite weird as I'm Thai when I see this MV. But it's OK! with YG help Lisa to put some Thai cultures for her request in this MV. Teddy often uses Arabian melody in YG artist's song that's amazing. In this 'Lalisa', maybe it'll bring a new feeling that would amaze the inter-audiences.
@@kookai3125 yea i agree with you ... it was weird for me too when she showed her thai section with the phrygian which is often associated with middle east, egypt etc...but yea teddy has always been obsessed with that so makes sense why twas there.. even one of the gold outfits.. where she is covered in gold circles entirely ...that is also associated with arab cultures.. but then she has some very cleopatra-like features so i thought all of it highlighted that about her no matter what it meant
@@awestruckbarely ok i know nothing about music but as someone who is half thai i just wanna add and say that i feel weird that lisa is always being exoticised in kpop because of the fact that she's thai and has different facial features from most east asians. regarding music, i feel like they like to give her parts that are more hip hop/western, or have some middle eastern tune playing in the background (which, middle east people have ALWAYS been labelled exotic-looking no matter where they go and it's not a great thing), because she's "different" and she can take the parts that are different from normal kpop elements. regarding fashion, they always give her like the crazier/badass/hip hop outfits whereas the other members tend to have more toned down, "normal" kpop outfits. i get that yes, she's proud of being thai and yg wants to support that and i love to see the thai representation! but it doesn't sit right with me how they kinda market her as this super exotic figure because of her different heritage, because i feel like that will influence the light that koreans/east asians see thai/southeast asian people in.
@@jbtfp parts of what you said makes sense to me in a way cos i honestly have never really noticed that she was exoticised....also her features arent that different from east asians imo but yes with the makeup she does look different and i think evryone can look different with makeup on.. but may i ask..? Wouldnt it be unacceptable if she was actually shown in a wrong way along with being shown as different..? Different dont always mean wrong cos i dont see anyth wrong in this... yes she is the main attraction or jennie and every group has that specific member the company pushes in front to get people into the gp... mostly people with great charisma and visuals and they enhance their features and everything else to add onto the interest.... But idk about exoticising as such.. its an interesting thought tho and maybe it is there.. im not sure...

O god finally i was waiting for someone to say thissss.. THANKYOU KEVIN.. cos he said exactly what i thought about it i agree with everything kevin said about the chorus...it was great when it first happened and the words were all perfect but when they copy pasted it TWICE without changing anything ... it just was tiring to listen to... her verses, bridge, everything else was really good but since the chorus makes up a huge part of the song i have never really listened to the song except while watching the performances. another thing i realized was when cloud said that chorus didnt hit hard because of the intro...which again downgraded the chorus... i think the only section that brought up almost the same level thrill was the gold phrygian section
I was so happy that Kevin talked about the chorus being divisive. I loved the intro of the song before the first chorus and the bridge with the Thai influence. The chorus took me out of it and stopped me from loving the song . Not saying the song was bad but the chorus wasn’t at the same level as the rest of the song. A repetitive song can still be good if you have the right chorus.
I agree with Kevin. I think the chorus lacks something. But once I commented this, Lisa’s fan attack me lol BTW It’s nice seeing someone with same opinions here. It’d be better if Lalisa is catchy becos the lyrics and song progression is interesting. Not because it is too repetitive. BTW It’s a good start for her solo. Congrats for Lisa!!
As a Lisa biased blackpink fan, the chorus actually surprised me how it isnt empty. Like Jennie and Rosé are the vocalists of the group but their solo songs have empty beats and chorus (idk how it's called). But here, a rapper solo song, there are actually lyrics from the intro to the chorus down to the outro. But yeah I get where everyones coming from!
@@artistblue18 thats true and i fully agree.. i love everything else about the song and id thought that id listen to anything by lisa jus cos im that obsessed with her.. but the chorus felt like there was something missing and they repeated it without changing anything as well.. but yea i still know the song by heart jus cos i have watched her performances too many times Lisa carries the entire song and thats the fact.

According to my knowledge about Thai classical music (I've played some, long time ago but I'm not the expert, just a casual player so sorry if I'm wrong), here's what I've heard: - The whole track has a wooden stick clapping sounds as a background which quite similar to a Thai Northeastern folk dance named Lao Kratob Mai (it uses 2 long bamboo sticks). This song uses such sticks or another instrument named Grub. Even more the rhythm and number of the clapping beats are quite similar too. - At start, it sounds like the opening track of many Thai folk music, with brass (Chab), a wooden fute (Pi) and the wooden clapping stick. - Bridge 1 has sound of leather drum (Khlong) and non-tongued wooden flute (Khloo-y) as a background. - Bridge 2 has sound of tongued flute (Pi), Gong (Kong Wong), brass (Chab) which can create kinda Arabic sounds too. That's what I can hear from this song. Sorry if my analysis is wrong. Really love this video of yours.
LISA'S LALISA STUCK IN MY HEAD..EVEN DURING MY EXAMINATION..I AM SOLVING PROBLEM QUESTIONS AND MY BRAIN WAS LIKE....SAY LALISA LOVE ME LALISA LOVE ME 🤣🤣
I love how Lisa is improving her own style, color and everything and it is impressive how well it combines with traditional instruments from her hometown. Nice video guys
What Kevin says at 10:00 and what Umu says at 11:00 , I'm glad you brought this up, because I have been recognizing this new trope in kpop , where the modulation doesn't smoothly returns. At first I didnt like it, but now I enjoy it, but it's becoming so cliche that it was fun where you didnt expect it, and now it doesn't surprise me. Great content Reacttothek! Keep up the great work and thank you for breaking down the music.
I did not think you guys would react to this song, so I was pleasantly surprised. I now appreciate the complexity behind what you guys were able to pick out, but like Kevin said, I really wish they put as much effort into the chorus as they did the budget and composition of the music. At the very least, words that rhyme with “Lalisa” instead of repeating the same thing so many times. The video was nice, the bridge was the best part, only the chorus was lacking, and it was LACKING.
Oh..Wow!! I love this reaction so much. It's fact that music has no borders. Classic musician interested in hiphop style. My daughter plays the violin and listen to Lisa' song too .Lisa is creative co-producer for her solo (credit by YG) and she want to put Thai style to this song.I think it's perfect match.Thank you very much for your interesting in LALISA.😊 I LISA YOU🥰
That's what I thought when I heard the teaser. Sounds like "Gamelan" or "caklempong" which made it sounds southeast asian-y. But it is supposed to be Thai influence so maybe it is "khang wok lek". I'm from Malaysia btw so these instruments really sound familiar.
I felt the same as kevin when I listened to it for the first time, it didn't really suit for me that she keeps repeating her name but then someone said that her name is an actual word (idk if its a phrase) from thailand and it has a meaning 🤣 I think aside from it's intentional to make this solo debut all about herself, it's also smart 👏 and I get it that it wouldn't make sense to others but to thailand people it sure do and she made them so proud of her ❤️
very informative reaction!! even tho i'm not a music related course student, i'm learning something from y'all, thank you!!! i also love the way this video is edited, it's so fun and interesting to watch! and also about the repetitive chorus, i kinda agree when i first heard it but when i saw her debut stage-the whole choreo of the song- with lisa being a main dancer, i realized it was really made that way. it was to showcase lisa in her element with all her moves and how she present herself as LALISA. that's why overall i'm really amaze with her debut!! everything about the song, then her vocals, her rap, the music video(i'm obsessed with it), her visuals oh god she's so gorgeous, the choreo too is very cute and sexy at the same time. i also noticed there's quite a few 'blackpink' references in the song and if u think about it, lisa did embodied the black and pink concept on her debut. -thank u again for reacting to LALISA!! i didn't expect y'all will react to my fave girl, lili
OMG I'm so excited for the next video with Sam KIm. I'm always surprised when artists and producer appear on your videos but it makes sense considering how great the work you do is
Wow, this has been an amazing and informative reaction and I have been watching quite a few. It was such a great and interesting review of the song, particularly the instrumental. Although I did have a comment concerning the copy and paste sound of the chorus. I completely agree with his assessment, but I believe the reason behind it is showcase her visuals and dancing. For each repeat of the chorus sequence, she had a different set of dance moves, especially in the final scene, With different dancers surrounding her. Her position in the group is lead dancer, and I feel like the repetition of the chorus is tailored to fit that role as well.
Yep, the thing with kpop, particularly YG music, is that when they create a song, they already take into account how it would be used in the MV and how it will be performed live. GDragon's works are very good examples.
@@iagreewithyou3478 I don't know anything about GD era. Can you tell me more about his similarity with Lalisa? What is their intention of selling "Lalisa" (besides branding that I can think of) bcos it was not Lisa's idea. It was Teddy's idea. It was a bold move. It's interesting to see how much of the music theory relates to dance theory. It probably seems obvious but I mean they must think about it while creating the song. Which also makes sense, but then it shows how often that is NOT taken into consideration.

Totally agree with Kevin. The problem of this song is too much chorus. Skip the second chorus, this song would become a bop. If they want to do beat switch or something like that, Next Level by æspa is a good example. And I also think the song can speed up a little bit. That’ll sound MUCH better.
There's a snippet on RUclips of hwasa strutting in a red bodysuit, i dont know if it was MAMA? But she was walking to a sample sound that reminds me so much of the sound they're using in Lalisa. Just an observation. Im pretty sure its the same exact sound lol

@@KKKK-bl4cg very easy for you just don't listen to the things you don't like.
@@KKKK-bl4cg her choices was right bout including the 3rd chorus imagine a song with only 2 chorus it would sound too short and incomplete they could have added a bridge or made the 3rd chorus a bit different so it would fit so much directly going to the start feels like smth is missing
100% agree
guys you are all crazy. It's hard to comprehend how educated and talented you all are. Like you can break down the song BY NOTES from THE FIRST LISTEN. Like wtf?! I get it, its your profession, but I will never stop to be amazed. Also, I know that Umu will never put out a reaction just for the sake of hype, so she always chooses the songs that she herself thinks is musically interesting. Im not a fan of this song, its kinda too boring and repetitive for me, also lack of idea is also present, but watching you breaking down the song with such passion and finding so many elements! It made me appreciate the song a little bit more!
I can't express fully how much I appreciate what you all share with us and how amazing and talented you are! Thank you for your reaction! Thank you, Umu, for always working hard! Love you
That's why they are enrolled in an elite music school.. Plebians like us can't understand a thing hahaha
You could hear a similar melody in ' I'm the Best' from the old girl group from YG '2NE1' too, or even in the rap part of Lisa in 'How you like that'.
so is a exclusive sound for the top of the company?
Reactions from real musicians will always be on point.... Thank you guys for doing this....
I'm from her hometown "Buriram" too when we see phanomrung castle in the background we were like 🤯🤯🤯🤯⚡⚡⚡⚡🔥🔥🔥🔥So proud of her. Btw her Thai costume and head wear looks so amazing เริ่ดค่า

O god finally i was waiting for someone to say thissss.. THANKYOU KEVIN.. cos he said exactly what i thought about it
i agree with everything kevin said about the chorus...it was great when it first happened and the words were all perfect but when they copy pasted it TWICE without changing anything ... it just was tiring to listen to... her verses, bridge, everything else was really good but since the chorus makes up a huge part of the song i have never really listened to the song except while watching the performances.
another thing i realized was when cloud said that chorus didnt hit hard because of the intro...which again downgraded the chorus... i think the only section that brought up almost the same level thrill was the gold phrygian section
@@artistblue18 thats true and i fully agree.. i love everything else about the song and id thought that id listen to anything by lisa jus cos im that obsessed with her.. but the chorus felt like there was something missing and they repeated it without changing anything as well.. but yea i still know the song by heart jus cos i have watched her performances too many times
Lisa carries the entire song and thats the fact.
@@topfy101 I think if you comment on reaction videos from channels who aren’t usually afraid to give constructive criticism you won’t get fan attacked as much. I notice on channels like this one, commenters are more open to others opinions other than “Omg this is song of the year”
According to my knowledge about Thai classical music (I've played some, long time ago but I'm not the expert, just a casual player so sorry if I'm wrong), here's what I've heard:
- The whole track has a wooden stick clapping sounds as a background which quite similar to a Thai Northeastern folk dance named Lao Kratob Mai (it uses 2 long bamboo sticks).
I'm obsessed with the song!
Thank you for reacting to Lisa!
Exceptional analysis review of Lisa's Lalisa. I learned something and I'm no musician so some of the analysis went over my head but thank you!
AHHH THANKS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Just ending on the ambiguous ending of “Sam will strut” agsfdhsjksdks strut what?? Strut where??? Strut how??? I have so many questions
Here for strutting sam and no context
Their dynamics are *chef’s kiss*
If I see Sam strutting I WILL let u know. -an eastman student
I guess we'll have to get the video to 100M to find out-
What Kevin says at 10:00 and what Umu says at 11:00 , I'm glad you brought this up, because I have been recognizing this new trope in kpop , where the modulation doesn't smoothly returns.
This is the best, most complete and detailed reaction.
Luv it ❤️
Thankyou so much for your reactions 😭😭I was really anticipating it
Actually it's very good to see reactions like this and learn more about music. well done guys
its interesting i never knew that she used thai instruments which is really col and it was amazing that u guys pointed it out
Oh..Wow!! I love this reaction so much. It's fact that music has no borders. Classic musician interested in hiphop style. My daughter plays the violin and listen to Lisa' song too .Lisa is creative co-producer for her solo (credit by YG) and she want to put Thai style to this song.I think it's perfect match.Thank you very much for your interesting in LALISA.😊
I LISA YOU🥰
That's what I thought when I heard the teaser. Sounds like "Gamelan" or "caklempong" which made it sounds southeast asian-y. But it is supposed to be Thai influence so maybe it is "khang wok lek". I'm from Malaysia btw so these instruments really sound familiar.
Yes! I heard gamelan sound too!!!
I felt the same as kevin when I listened to it for the first time, it didn't really suit for me that she keeps repeating her name but then someone said that her name is an actual word (idk if its a phrase) from thailand and it has a meaning 🤣 I think aside from it's intentional to make this solo debut all about herself, it's also smart 👏 and I get it that it wouldn't make sense to others but to thailand people it sure do and she made them so proud of her ❤️
"Lalisa" means "the one that is praised" lol so in a way, you could almost see it as her saying "praise me more".
@@lalalalisa41 exactly what she aims for her solo 😆💗
I didnt see this coming AT ALL. I'm always loving when musicians react to a song, it makes so much sense and you will appreciate the song more.
Wow I really enjoy your reaction. It's like you're in a learn by listen class in a music school. I love it.
very informative reaction!! even tho i'm not a music related course student, i'm learning something from y'all, thank you!!! i also love the way this video is edited, it's so fun and interesting to watch! and also about the repetitive chorus, i kinda agree when i first heard it but when i saw her debut stage-the whole choreo of the song- with lisa being a main dancer, i realized it was really made that way. it was to showcase lisa in her element with all her moves and how she present herself as LALISA. that's why overall i'm really amaze with her debut!! everything about the song, then her vocals, her rap, the music video(i'm obsessed with it), her visuals oh god she's so gorgeous, the choreo too is very cute and sexy at the same time. i also noticed there's quite a few 'blackpink' references in the song and if u think about it, lisa did embodied the black and pink concept on her debut.
-thank u again for reacting to LALISA!! i didn't expect y'all will react to my fave girl, lili
I just love this song from the start, the beat is CRAZY Just makes me happy!
Love how he just bust out the melodica 😂
I know absolutely nothing of music theory but I find this channel to be highly interesting to watch. Great job!
Umu the editor is doing great! The vocal fry part and adding a toad to match the sound 😂😂 Perfect!
ah, i see kevin has impeccable taste in indie cinema
I've been your fan in here for a long time and this video really pulled me to be your patreon.
Amazing that you guy suddenly know it is Thai percussion just first second you heard... really Pro. I learnt a lot from your chanel 👍
Maybe it is also part of the plan for the branding her name? Whether it is+ve or -ve reaction, now everyone know what's her name! The brand!!
Lisa even said it was kind of weird at first but after sang it for a few times, she kind of hooked on it.
"La Lisa the loudest in the room" Bravo
Teddy is in love with Phrygian
this channel makes me want to learn more about music, keep it up umi!!!!

For some reason when i watch some reaction vids, i always end up at this channel 😂🤷♂️
Thank you for the technical reaction!
Im sorry for offtopic, will there be reaction for STICKER? the song is insane i would LOVE to see your reaction and hear your thoughts. Umu probably could break the glass with her screams listening to that song

Can't wait for it
The chorus gets stuck in my head, then the fact that I work/live in Bangkok, it’s all over the trains and city here, so it’s in my head all day
Just dropping by to say that this has always been one of the coolest reaction channels for me, and I don't even know shit about music theory.
I even got to discover some new artists you've reacted to because of how good you found their music was when when you dissected it.
i loveeeeeeeeeeeeee when people explain music like it's science!
its funny cause i dont understand half of what they're saying but i like watching it for some reason
OMG WAIT YOU ACTUALLY REACTED THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I don't understand any and I hope I can but still, I love this kinds of critics/reactions. Love to hear this kind of conversation. I don't care if they like it or not because they have their own LEGITIMATE reasons. Not just "I love the song but..." kind of arguments or "I'm blinks/lilies but..." Then say nonsense and pure hate reasons. I miss this kind of reaction in this channel. More like this pleaseeeeee. How about the b-side song "Money"?
they only to react to music that is a little unique and money isn’t really
Eversince I watched a lot of your Kpop reactions, I cant listen to a song without thinking, “How will the Classical and Jazz musicians react to this?” or “Will the Classical and Jazz musicians love this?” Is it just me? 😅
Waaahh, never thought you would react to Lisa's debut song!!! Thank you !!!
AAAHH I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR IT 😍
that is YG speciality rhythm and melody combo in one song
I hope you guys can react to Sticker from NCT127 . since the song itself kinda weird (for me its weird in a good way) , but maybe some fans not get used by the music so they find the song weird and like Lemonade more . But Lemonade was like the genre they've tried so i understand why they choose Sticker as title track . So i wanna see the way how musician see that kind of music . Thank you umu if you read this !!!

It’s on the list for reactions to be released in October.
It's on the list, can't wait 😭

The editing had me dying 😂😂
My favorite part is the english rap part, it’s so cool and the bass beat I like it 👍
Love you all reaction, LALISA QUEEN 🔥😍👑💅
Yeeeyyy, been waiting to thissss
It's interesting to see how much of the music theory relates to dance theory. It probably seems obvious but I mean they must think about it while creating the song. Which also makes sense, but then it shows how often that is NOT taken into consideration.
Is this the fastest release of reaction videos ever from Reacttothek?
I think the fastest Classical Musicians React video I ever put out was a few years ago with BTS' Not Today and Spring Day when we had a sponsor who asked us to release the video day of or day after X'D But yeah, since our schedule is already so backed up due to my hand injury, our manager has lectured me to try to get to recent releases faster :') I'll do my best!
@@ReacttotheK thank you for you and your teams hard work! We really appreciate it. Take care
I didn’t notice that since I started watching your reaction from NCT127 - Simon Says (Charlotte screaming). lol
Also, some of the recent videos were released within a week after mv release , so I’m quite surprised.
Thanks for your hard work.
Really love your reaction
@@ReacttotheK is this Lalisa reaction sponsored?
Thanks guys ❣️❣️❣️
Totally agree with Kevin. The problem of this song is too much chorus. Skip the second chorus, this song would become a bop. If they want to do beat switch or something like that, Next Level by æspa is a good example.
And I also think the song can speed up a little bit. That’ll sound MUCH better.
The hearing ability of you guys is amazing. Wow. 👍👍
