Juyoung’s reaction is mine when GOT the beat was announced. XD Step Back is such an interesting trip. I remember being really hyped when they performed this song during the free SM online concert and when the official stage video was released. The bizarre chant at the beginning makes the song incredibly eerie, but it gives the feeling of intimidation before an epic showdown, which does fit the message of the song. And the vocals were exquisite, though the lyrics could have been about telling the haters and the anti-fans to step back rather than a possessive girlfriend telling other women to step back from her man. All these women have endured extremely unnecessary criticism in their careers as K-Pop idols and the lyrics easily could have reflected that. I hope we get another song from GOT the beat in the future, especially one with more empowering lyrics like Girls on Top by BoA. There’s a lot of potential for a comeback at any time since unlike SuperM, they don’t need to worry about military service. Plus, GOT the beat has idols from *all four* K-Pop generations and idols from all the current female SM artists (though I wish f(x) could have been here too T^T). To do only one song and completely forget about this supergroup would be such a missed opportunity.
I was a bit disappointed in the lyrics, especially when SuperM had such "powerful" vibes but the song itself is fire. I think all of the girls killed it. I agree with you about F(x) the only other thing that could have made it better if we had one or 2 of the girls their. Like Imagine LUNA in this!!!
This group just reminds me that f(x) no longer exists and has been forgotten, and it makes me so sad 😭😭 Luna would have absolutely slayed and I'm guessing Amber would have been the second member picked (maybe Krystal?). Anyway I'm gonna go cry in the corner now
Umu the editing for this is truly top tier😭😭 it made me tear up just thinking about the older videos and how much this channel has really grown and evolved. I think the spooky sample and the collection of 1-4 gen gg members lends itself AMAZINGLY well to a female vampire concept. When they release an MV they can avoid the backlash from the misogynist lyrics by having the GOT members fight over a man for his blood as vampires rather than for "love".
From the moment the orchestral-like singing came in the beginning, I knew they were about to tap into their belting bags lol. It really set the tone for the churchy, almost-haunted tone of the whole song. I enjoy it sometimes, but other times, I'm terribly reminded of the sparseness in the song; just depends on my mood. Considering how controversial the lyrics are, I think the way the music was done was absolutely on purpose. Now that it's being mentioned that the end bit just sounds so weird, creepy and eerie, when taking a look at the lyrics it makes a whole world of sense as to why the song itself is like that. The lyrics are basically about a girl telling another girl to step back from her man otherwise she's gonna get really nasty if she doesn't and using that weird creepy section in different parts of the song makes it make the first girl's words seem more... threatening I think. It's been a while since I looked at the lyrics and thought about this song so I could be wrong, but from a general standpoint, I think it makes some more sense to me now. Did I wish that this song was more about something more empowering rather than what it is? Yeah, but we can't have everything in the world unfortunately.

In my opinion, K-Pop songs especially from SM, it makes the new sounds of the music. It makes you stun at the first time and if you repeatly listen to it again and again, you will love it more and more. I listen to Western Music (Pop, R&B, Soul, RAP, Dance, Electronic, EDM, and also Classical Music) before I open my heart to K-Pop songs. I saw a big steps jumping up of K-Pop year by year since after 2007 until now in 2022. GOT is the special units of the top girl singers and dance performers of SM. For me "Step Back" make me feel that SM could bring the best of the sound and performance of the Vocal Girls of SM (may be my opinion is bias because I am the Fan of Taeyeon, Girls' Generation, Red Velvet, and aespa). You could find the good songs from Taeyeon's solo album (I, Fine, Rain, 11:11, ...) and Wendy's solo album (Like Water) in which you could feel the good sound and the talent in the music of her. It is not make me surprise that who used to listen to Western Music and Classical Music feel strange in K-Pop songs (especially from SM). But if you listen to the songs with no standard of what is the best music in your mind, you will find the new sound that open the new experience of listening the songs. "Step Back" is not the complicated song, but the K-Pop style. I love this song (from special unit of SM for Girl's side) and the performance of the SM artists of this song is excellent.
You guys need to react to DPR Ian’s new MV. He has some orchestral elements to it that is right up your alley. Plus he’s so talented because he composed, produced, directed, and edited it. He’s extremely talented. He’s usually in the background for other Korean artists but released music a couple years ago and is part of the DPR group.
I think, it's cool that you didn't post it immediately, because it's way more fun to hear about such divisive songs when you are used to them and completely forgot they are divisive😹 I always perceived Step Back as an agrressive track, but I agree that it tries to creep you out too. Makes a lot of sense knowing the lyrics😁 don't mess with these girls. It was interesting to hear about a plagal sequence. So they are bringing the church feeling not only with the chants. Also about the vocal placement and effects. Very informative. Thanks you for the reaction! Soon they will slay at smtown❤️
Ju Young shouting "I love it!" after Jason's questioning gives the same vibes as Gwen shouting "I know I love it!" when Hugo was unsure about f(x)'s Red Light
This is a song you need to listen a few times to get through the different things going on, same with the video. After a few times, you appreciate everything, the sound distortion makes sense.
i loved the comment about thinking of reverb as proximity! with dry being up at your face and wet being far away. that really helped me understand it better!!
umu your editing!! waaaa i hope you feel very proud of your videos. all the ways you insert reactors and vocal editing and sound effects man everything is so crisp! so so happy with your work ReacttotheK is and has always been a god-tier channel

*TO ME* this song is a masterpiece both because of the theme and execution (it's basically an eerie witchcraft, like a ritual), but Kpop stans ain't ready for that level of artistry. (See sticker and jopping for the same kpop Stan mixed reaction due to ignorance). Hope the mixed reactions don't stop SM from pushing boundaries cuz to me they're in the direction, music needs to be creative Kpop world.
This might be an unpopular opinion or something, but the lyrics are fine (except for the silly girl part. that is corny af lmao). Someone telling another person to get off their significant other, who is clearly uncomfortable of being hit on, is okay. It has been done a lot of times. But if we apply it to the bigger picture (i.e. it was written for and sang by a female supergroup which is supposed to symbolize female empowerment and women coming together), it leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. We could've had a female anthem, but we essentially got a song about a woman fighting another woman. It's disappointing. So it's not the meaning that is bad, just the context on where the lyrics applies to. They could've chosen another lyrical theme for debuting a female supergroup.
Well yeah, the context is the entire point. It's a group with with some of the biggest legends in the industry along with current high profile SM artists. These are the type of lyrics you would expect from a Gen 2 rookie group, possibly a b-side. I wouldn't expect it from THE title track for women who have no need to sing about how great their man is as the driving force for their empowerment. When was the last time any of them have even sung about that?
@@erica8863 A lot of people are saying that the problem is the lyrics and the meaning itself, which is not. The lyrics are decent and that kind of theme for a song is not new. SM should've considered the fact that the ones who are about to sing it are one of the most anticipated FEMALE supergroups of all time. They (or anyone who is responsible for that lyrical theme) really missed the mark on that one. Better choices could've been made lmao
i was really expecting a hype and powerful concept like superm had with their releases, but instead they formed a great group only to have them sing about how their man is on another level :/
Cmiiw but as far as I know the guy who produce this song is a mysgonist sooo naming a gg "Girls on top" and making them a song with this "common" theme that centre around fighting other woman for a man feels like a slap in the face lol if you're a guy it make sense that if you won't 100% understand this tho
@@mikamikan1079 That's another reason why people (including me) are upset. Idk why they still allow Ryan Jhun to work with these girls (or work, in general lmao), knowing that he used derogatory terms for them. He might have the accolades but he is still a shit person.

@@justinnyugen7015 I would want in GOT The Vocals: Bada, Taeyeon, Seohyun or Sunny or Tiffany, Seulgi, Wendy, Winter, and NingNing. We absolutely need Taeyeon, Seulgi, Wendy, and Winter to stay for this rotation, if they’re going to focus on vocalists next.
ive always loved the creepy sounds on this song and the vocals are top tier too! tho i do understand people hating the lyrics, but why cant u take on the persoective like they’re the villains in the story? idk ive always felt like this was a villain song, especially with that bg instrumental
I guess it’s because ppl’s expectations weren’t met, like when GOT was announced almost everyone’s hoping for a heroine’s anthem, sort of. and then the lyrics became exactly the opposite 😂 but it made sense when u explained it this way, even when I’m still not agreeing with some part of the lyrics. the lyrics are giving me paramore’s misery business vibe 😂
@@mon5386 yeah people dunno the basic rule in life which is don't expect shit from ppl never.
oh i actually like this different perspective. i'll just enjoy this song this way then 😂
I always heard it like the villians in a magical girl show fighting off the heroes.
@@mon5386 people's expectation are dumb. Most of them even think that the lyric was all about girls being mean to other girls when it's not even the case lol.
OMG, I CANT WAIT FOR THEM TO LOSE THEIR MIND WITH GLITCH
Jason is sooooo good at explaining the nuances and technicality of the songs. I learnt so much just listening to him. And on the other end Jory and Will's lesson on production and reverb is worth a chef kiss.
I’ve never been the same after listening to this song. The raps, the VOCALS, and omg this creepy but in a perfect way instrumental
this song is amazing
Music wise and vocal wise, and member wise, i really like this group and song
"That's the music i imagine i'll be murdered to" -Raffy
👏🤣
I know people have mixed feelings because of the lyrics, but no one can tell me that they aren't obsessed with the bridge- BoA, Winter, and Wendy all in one? Hell yes?
2:16 I loved that part because we can see all the reactions
The instrumentals are why I love this song.
I love this song so much!!! The way the instrumentals just constantly change makes me focus intently
the lyrics is another topic...
Gotta admit that when seulgi said bridge, she wasn’t kidding
Yess, all I could say when I first heard this song was creepily powerful! Everytime I hear this song, I feel like I'm preparing revenge against someone with 1000% confidence, haha, such a villain vibe. Hopefully SM will continue this group project.
This is what a reaction video should be, imo. Not just wow they are good, amazing, and bla bla. In this channel we got full package of review, that's why i love your guys. They reviewing not just vocal, but also the music the note the instrument. Look im not a singer, i dont even have any knowledge about music and with this reaction video im not just enjoy it but also i can learn from it. Love it ❤❤❤❤❤❤
05:01 I was totally waiting for Taeyeon's part hehehe And I would love to see Kevin here🥲😅
I will be filming his and Owens reaction to this song for Patreon in a few weeks. I forgot to show them this song 🤦🏻♀️ the end of last year’s phone sessions got so hectic 😭
@@ReacttotheK ah, I got it. I'll wait for Patreon. Also, I like that you try to prepare content even if you are busy 💗 Thanks for replying🙏
Between this, INVU or Forever 1.. I can't pick my favorite comeback this year 🥹
I’m a sm girls stan and I can’t decide between GOT, SNSD or Taeyeon too. I love them all!!! And now I love Aespa too lol. And don’t forget feel my rhythm.
@@MichieT10 hyoyeon's deep is so addicting too
Step Back is such an eerie hype song 🔥
The songs and group as whole just gave intimidating vibes and I love it, they're for sure really powerful
OH WOW, it's been year since the last time I watch your video, this in depth musical discussion now comes with SAMPLES from the point which the reactor are talking to is amazing!
Their explanation of reverb changed so much for me in music. I love learning from y’all! I have several songs I am going to go back and relisten to with the distance mindset. THANK YOU
Ngl would love to see Raffi and Sam react to Taeyeon's Killing voice episode because they reacted to Wendy's solo, I would love to see their comments on her full range.
ahhhh i've been looking forward to this!🤩 still gets played daily🔥
i really got goosebumps when i heard the bare sample of the weird scary bells? it IS so eerie for reals. btw, jonas really is very good at pointing out the weird, good, bad and confusing stuff about the song and he explains his thoughts about it so well. i hope he stays for a long time in this channel.
6:07 Ju Young still mouthing “I love it” as Jason continues to analyze lololol
"IT'S SO DISTORTED I LOVE IT" This is how everyone's reaction should be
Congratulations on the sponsor. You do a great job and deserve to get paid for your hard work.
NO BC THE SEULGI BLACK MAMBA THEORY (7:20) - FUCKING GENIUS
Umu belting out that LEEEEEEVEEEEEEEEL is a vibe lol
The editing in this is so on point!! Thanks for another great video :))
Taeyeon looking at the camera knowing she about to spit another multi level fire belt 😏
I love this Super Group they are all Top Tier and this song is a bop.❤️
Okay, that ad was smooth as hell!
YES!!! I've been waiting for this for months 😭😭😭
The distorted yeppeun Kim Taeyeon in the intro.
5:00 now we want Raffi to react to some more Taeyeon 🥹🫶🏼
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS REACTING STAMP ON IT OMG
You guys need to react to DPR Ian’s new MV. He has some orchestral elements to it that is right up your alley. Plus he’s so talented because he composed, produced, directed, and edited it. He’s extremely talented. He’s usually in the background for other Korean artists but released music a couple years ago and is part of the DPR group.
4:05 the sm bridge effect 🤣
it's the "HMMMMMM~~~ SING IT " for me during Taeyeon's highnote ❤❤❤
Stream FOREVER 1!! lezzgo S❤NES
I just LOVE this song! And the group is the most perfect combination of talent! Top tier 👌🏻
I think, it's cool that you didn't post it immediately, because it's way more fun to hear about such divisive songs when you are used to them and completely forgot they are divisive😹
I always perceived Step Back as an agrressive track, but I agree that it tries to creep you out too.
4:49 YES THAT SCENE LIVES RENT FREE IN MY HEAD FOREVER FR
this is so unexpected lmao but THANK YOU UMU😭❤
Ju Young shouting "I love it!" after Jason's questioning gives the same vibes as Gwen shouting "I know I love it!" when Hugo was unsure about f(x)'s Red Light
This is a song you need to listen a few times to get through the different things going on, same with the video. After a few times, you appreciate everything, the sound distortion makes sense.
I'M CRYING SEEING THIS VIDEO BECAUSE THIS SONG IS SO OVERWHELMING TO BE HEARD OF ASDFGHJKL
Oh my god Glitch is next???? YES 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼
i loved the comment about thinking of reverb as proximity! with dry being up at your face and wet being far away. that really helped me understand it better!!
juyeong's vibes are immaculate, like i just feel happy for some reason lol
4:46 NOT HIM COMPARING THE DANCE BREAK TO THE ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS DANCE BATTLE😭😭😭
umu your editing!! waaaa i hope you feel very proud of your videos. all the ways you insert reactors and vocal editing and sound effects man everything is so crisp! so so happy with your work ReacttotheK is and has always been a god-tier channel
It's so eerie that you just want to Step Back.....
this is amazing from start to finish oh lord i'm so happy for Girls on top
loved this reaction. I always just think how do these producers even think of these things.
I cannot wait for an Ateez - Guerrilla reaction.
“That’s the music I imagine I’ll be murdered too”-Raffi’
Kahsksjsks
can confirm, that alvin and the chipmunks scene is indeed amazing
i agree that this song alerts my senses
Thank you! I've been waiting for this for half a year...
And Kwon Eunbi's Glitch next is also a good choice because that song is very special...
Their reaction to the bridge is me. The satisfaction.
Finally
I'm waiting for this reaction ♥️
the EH EUMMMMM WOUB WEH AAAA sample from the beginning is like the best part of the whole song
Still not sure how I feel about this song despite all the queens in it!! 👑👑
Please react to Hyo’s Deep! I’ve been obsessed for months
‘that’s the music i imagine i’ll be murdered to’ im crying😭😭
Can you imagine how epic this group is? I can't stop listening since debut
the way he said "that is so out"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
SM music is always interesting to be analyzed
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!!!!! and it did not disappoint.
The editing is literally on the next level ❤️
the instrumental is giving haunted abandoned carnival clown music and i love that
I just have to say thank you so much to this channel and the people that react to these amazing videos. I've been introduced to so many amazing artists since 2020 when I first found this channel. Can't wait for your guys to react to Snsd's Forever 1 comeback!
The lyrics are very good. Jealousy and timing is a woman's life
*TO ME* this song is a masterpiece both because of the theme and execution (it's basically an eerie witchcraft, like a ritual), but Kpop stans ain't ready for that level of artistry. (See sticker and jopping for the same kpop Stan mixed reaction due to ignorance).
Hope the mixed reactions don't stop SM from pushing boundaries cuz to me they're in the direction, music needs to be creative Kpop world.
i know that smile at 0:20 when i see one HAHAHAHA
I can't believe nobody commented on BoA straight up saying 'Bridge'. I thought it was so bold the first time I listened to this song
Seulgi is the one saying “bridge”
> belting high Fs
Just a normal day for SM vocalists
