Also there's new Slug Emoji's for members in the comments
U are very pretty Tara. Long live slug🎉
The technical and scientific methodology applied in modern farming to both cropping and livestock is fascinating. Slug, you Liam and Dad are great educators. Never boring.
Thank you I'm glad you like it sometimes I watch them back and go this is really long and complicated and I do cut a lot of information because of it. I try to add the drawings to make it a bit more interesting but some things you just can't lol 😂
Couldn't have said it better. Thanks for sharing, Tara.
Not being able to sleep sucks, but catching a new sheep and slug video makes the night better. Was interesting learning about the controlled burns!
Glad to hear you liked learning about the controlled burns, many people don't understand them and why they're done. Hope you can get to sleep now you've helped count some sheep!
I just commented the same thing. Can't sleep either so i feel for ya. At least tara and slug can keep us company through the screen. 😉😊
Try travacalm- works for me- 2 sleeps a week.
I'm seriously impressed you can count running, milling sheep. I'd get to about 14, lose count, and have to start over ad infinitum
I fall asleep after 12 :D
Same
@@sepulture777 i count sheep to 3 then i fall asleep. okay-- sometimes to 3:30 AM Lol ^^
Ah the field burning. The rice farmers do it every year in the valley here in California to clear out the paddies, and the Entire Valley fills up with smoke for a bit.
Wild to me that folks are aghast that your sheep aren't indoors, but I guess it makes a bit more sense if their only other exposure to sheep is through Sandi. Growing up around ag its honestly a bit weirder to me seeing sheep that never go outside than seeing sheep out in the pasture. Back when I was very small and we had goats, I swear they preferred being outside more than in the barn- unless it was raining/snowing but even then the trees would suffice for the tougher ones.
Countin sheep is just what the doctor ordered tonight, gonna help knock me out after I finish the vid hopefully
Love the sleepily slug cause my own slug is sleeping in exact same position 😂
Must be the new Slug software update 😂
Beyonce's version "To the left to the left" Tara's version "To the left bitches!" 😂
Planting season up here in Oregon as well. It is a bit late this year as we've been having frosts quite often overnight. Should be all done with that now.
I did see that a lot of the creators up there are planting now, we should finish next week or the week after depending on weather!
Yay, a new adventure from our friends in Australia :-) Love the new adventures of the Slug!
Glad to see you here again Doug, and that you enjoyed this one!
@@TaraFarms I was in Arizona helping my daughter pack up her house. Happy to be back enjoying the new adventures from Australia 🙂
Tara !!! Thanks for taking us along for all of this one!!! I'm not a farmer , but i like seeing the crop side of the farm as well . I appreciate you and your family so much! Stay safe stay great and keep up the good work!!!!
Couldn't sleep, ughh. It's almost 2am here in Canada. thankfully i can occupy myself with your newest video Tara & Sluggy!
Hopefully it helped you fall asleep with all the sheep counting 😂
Another insomniac from the states here. I guess my subconscious knew it was blog time. The crops you’re planting are like the winter cover crops for my garden. Makes sense. Good for the soil. Good for the sheep.
I thought the planting was interesting but it’s looks like it would be more boring to do than chasing sheep with Slug.
It can be interesting if you're into plants, I don't really know a great deal about cropping because I've always been more into animals. But there's lots that goes into it!
I like your seeding content. You are never boring. Love reality.
No it is not boring. I like watching more than just sheep.
Thank you for explaining preg tox 😊
Same. Never knew reason.
@@angelareimann6433 I asked a few weeks ago about a few things that Sandi has on her hobby farm. Sandi has a lot of preg tox and disfigured deformed mutant lambs with a lot of stillborns and what she calls mummy lambs. I wasn’t sure if this happened to all farmers or if it was just misfortune to the Canadian farm. It was just something that I was interested in seeing the difference between countries and how they do things. Just curiosity.
That’s ok. I imagine there’s something similar in humans too.
We have more problems with turtling from pregnancy than birthing.
Like everywhere, different places struggle with different issues and diseases. Sandi's area in Canada has something called Cache Valley Viris that is transported via infected mosquitoes. At one point a University had contacted Sandi to help with providing information for research into Cache Valley. Unfortunately that was just before covid so not sure where that research has ended up.
One of the things I really enjoy about watching farmers from different countries or even areas of the same country is learning about how things are different and how things are the same.
Thank you Tara and Typo for sharing your day and your knowledge with us.
@@TaraFarms as a mum yes I felt like a beached whale when pregnant. And yes many women around the world suffer from pregnancy complications such as pregnancy toxaemia from high blood pressure and left untreated can cause death to both mum and bubz. And yes many people are born with something not right around the world.
But people seem to forget that first and foremost we humans are mammals and we mammals have a lot in common with other mammals. I guess that’s the other part of why I was curious. Because I can relate with the sheep in a sense of knowing what it’s like being pregnant over weight and having pregnancy illnesses. And there’s many mums out there who have had prem babies that would understand the complex issues of having a child who is born early.
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing because mammal of all breeds have issues with pregnancy. But just my curiosity of understanding.
As always … I enjoy the moving and working of sheep, Typo in action and even the crop details.
For sure there are similarities to how farming is done, in general … but at the same time there are just as many differences given the type of terrain. A much hardier sheep that need less hands on interaction, than say Sandi!
It seems to be more of an art these days. Thank goodness for machinery!
Thanks for all the new info. Tara! 🙏🙌❤️✝️🇨🇦
Glad you liked the info. Thank you for the feedback 😊
Just love my Wednesday's with Tara and Slug! Just got back from a flight over Victoria on my way back to Brisbane and could see some people burning off small patches. Maybe they're doing what you did? Very interesting.
Yes they would have been just burning off stubble if they were patches here and there. Most people will almost be done now (or will want to be) because it won’t burn soon!
AAhh 20mins of bliss. Thanks agin Tara n Slug. The Ol' Fella Greg💙
Good morning (for me anyway) Tara
Great video as always. Not boring at all, always interested in what you all do in your operation. Slug looked grumpy though.
Have a great week.
Slug had a boring day sitting in the car for most of it 😂
It’s so interesting and fun to watch sheep farming in Australia then watch sheep farming in Canada with Sheepishly Me! You are such a hard worker and of course Slug is definitely the star ⭐️ lol great content! Thanks for sharing and teaching 😊
Great informative information..watching from Sydney..I like watching shit grow..great work gang..
Your ability to "speed count" that many sheep without getting lost is seriously impressive. Is it something you could use the drone for, looking from on high to count out a batch without having to get in among them and potentially scatter them?
It is something u can do with a drone, I have previously taken a picture and counted them all. But I find it just easier to count them in the paddock than to get out the drone get the pic on the phone, ect
I wouldn't have imagined crickets being an issue, but then again, these are Australian crickets we're talking about, so that makes it not so much of a surprise lol
The crickets start showing up around mid summer and they destroy the grass
They're a huge pest here in Colorado (US) with crops as well! I just have a home garden but they always try to invade all the plants they can.
It's morning and it makes it so nice to wake up and have you with me while I do chores.
Not a farmer, but enjoy your content. Give the Slug a scratch for me. Thanks 🐑
I love watching. I have a question……do you ever stop?…..I know there is always something to do. You are always on the go doing things.
We do have months when we’re doing less, eg March and September which is when I usually go on holiday like we went to Canada this year. 😊
So each of your sheep gets one of my backyards to hang out and eat, basically, to prevent pregtox.
That's very much putting the size of your paddocks into perspective.
Love your new sunnies Tara also that burnoff was impressive o could smell the smoke from here 😅
The tip on how to keep salad out of my diet is much appreciated ❤
Yip back in the real world of farming my father said we used to burn all our stubble once bales was off cleaned up the filth and weeds
I want the people who are asking you to put your sheep in a barn to come to my area and see our beef cattle in the fields at -50 Celsius. Frustrating for you if you feel like they are being critical, but so many people never venture into farms to find out!
Great video!
Oh we give our sheep Himalayan salt pink sort of stuff seem to lick it up so must be fine put them beside water tank
Nice tractor , I always enjoy watching Topper work. Thanks for taking time to share!!!
Another fantastic vlog tara i got a question are they any jobs on your farm that really stinks and you don't like doing it
Hey Pauly thank you for watching as always. Putting sheep down isn't ever good. But apart from that I'm not a fan of herding sheep in the really steep hilly paddocks.
Love watching dogs work
Wow, always very interesting. Thankd slug and Tara.
Yesss new sloooog n Tara vidya!
❤ loving the vlogs lots of things going on 😊
Our local firies do controlled burns from time to do especially if it's predicted to be a hot dry summer. There's a few pine forests near me that can be problematic.
Do you lamb your sheep in the cooler months so it's not so stressful on the sheep or is there another reason?
Our brigades will burn the sides of the roads usually, but it's up to forest fire management to burn in the bush here.
We lamb Late April (this year usually May) through to end of September because that's when we have grass. All our paddocks are dead in summer here.
Love the educational art, always my favorite thing to see
Loved the lambing montage
I love watching your videos especially slag and the babies
ooh, nice new rig! I have a feeling the climate control in the cab's gonna come in handy lol
Sluggy's doin a damn good job
Field work is fun to watch, too!
Lambs look good. Nice tractor 🚜 and planter . Hi Typo
Not a boring video at all! I love learning about the little things other channels don't think of. Why don't you have/use the other dogs as well as Slug when doing a difficult job? Are they doing their own jobs somewhere else?
Typo’s my only sheep dog, sheep dogs will usually only respond to their person. So unless someone else is with me all I have is her.
That's so interesting! Thank you for the reply ❤
We burn fields every year in Iowa too; though we don't need permits luckily!
Our permits are because of bushfire season and to prevent a burn off escaping and causing a fire.
Ah glad to see you do no-till drill seeding.
I had a go at some lamb coats and put them in the post. I just hope the mum ewes don't abandon their lambs because of my colour choices.
Can’t wait it get them, I’ll be putting the coats on the orphans and the abandoned lambs! Their mums keep the lambs in the paddocks warm. 😊
Do you have many stillbirths or even ewes who have stuck lambs? I’m just curious as there are other channels I watch & they seem to have to help their ewes give birth quite often & if the lambs are inside the birth canal too long they die etc. Your ewes seems to do quite well & you seem to be very ‘hands off” for the most part. Thank you!
We do have some (I had I think 4 or 5 last year). I pulled the first stuck lambs this year yesterday actually (was vlogging that day so will be in next week's video) I think it was because of the grain poisoning a few weeks ago killed the lambs. It can come down to breed. Primelines are generally really good, the lambs are born small but grow quickly. We more have problems with turtling with them though.
@@TaraFarmsyeah, besides breed being a factor for easy lambing, it looks like condition plays a decent factor as well for a lot of shepherds. Cammy/Sheep Game had a heck of a time with huge twins/singles since the ewes were over-conditoned with all the lush grass in the fields from the incessant rains, and that grew'em too big for the mommas to birth easily.
Not boring at all :)
Have you ever used a manual counted? It is extremely easy. And it is designed to fit in your hand. I used one, counting the movie goers. It is easy ❤😊
Not in the paddock no, I find it just as easy to just count them than to click the button. When we’re weighing sheep I’ll just an app on my phone because it’s easy to loose count.
A comment for the algorithm and Typo Slug.
Thank you much appreciated
I love the .."times it and do some sick maths
Love love your fkn humor!
Irony: my last video before sleep is counting sheep, hehehe.
Hey lovely! And little ssluggg❤
Hey Rachael!
17:46 is interesting don’t worry
You started counting sheep, and I got sleepy. Lol❣️
Is that your brother worken on the seeder😘 yah need to get the men to work with shirts off more😂
That’s Liam my partner! 👀😂
Tara...snakes, spiders, bush fires, floods, mice plagues, flies attacking your sheep, insects attacking your crops, foxes taking your👀 lambs, what's next???😮 OH NO!! It's the🐈⬛ Black Panther 😂😂😂
You need a good Chianti for the Fava beans.....Fufufufufufufufufufu
0:20 I love those sun glasses 😎
Here's me in Adelaide walking around at night normally I'd be listening to rap music instead I'm looking for primelines stuck in fences...... damn you tara, I'm developing a crush watch out
love
You really should invite Kaleb Cooper to visit your farm, he'd hate the sheep but has expressed interest in the size of Aussie farms .... maybe you could make an appearance on clarksons farm series 4 😉
Is he on RUclips or social media or just tv?
Good morning
👍
you play Satie for Sluggy? oh that is one spoiled pup.
She’s a very special creature 😂
Thank you for demonstrating how useful mathematics is in adult life.
you're prickle chain does that work like harrows?
hey tara love the videros keep it real just a question how many black lambs do you get year
Hey, we use to only get the odd one every few years but since we now have the primelines we seem to get a couple of coloured ones which is more exciting to see than just white sheep 😂
What crops do you normally do each year?
We now plant wheat, oats, barley and faba beans. We use to do lupins and peas but no longer do because the land is too wet for them. We did linseed one year it was BEAUTIFUL to look at during spring the paddock was light blue!
💜
Hey, I have a question, how can you make sure all the sheeps have taken the minerals you provided? I feel like there would be sheeps who would not take them.
It comes down to self moderation. They smell them and see what they are. Sheep will only eat them if they need it so those who aren’t in need to it won’t eat it. I suppose it would be like cravings.
Greetings from Malaysia
Do y'all do the maths each season or keep the data from prior years by seed type/variety? Do y'all always spread the fertilizer at the same time as the seed planting?
Nice meet video
Just wondering why your sheep lamb in the fall and in the northern hemisphere They are lambing in the wet rainy spring? I probably could have googled that, right?
Good question, we lamb from now through to the end of September, because everything dies in summer here.
Always loved cal. The seeder never.
I don’t know how you stay awake with all the sheep you’ve counted 😂
Have you guys ever thought about trying regenerative agriculture on a small amount of acerage?
Also, you still have K Mart in Australia?!
We already do. Many Australian farmers do it and have done it for years but now it just has a name.
For example the stubble burning we only burn where required but graze sheep before hand which helps rebuild soil with the sheep trampling and breaking it up. Then we burn and sow within days so we don’t have soil erosion. And the burn reduces the amount of spraying required.
Cover crops don’t really work here because our soil isn’t exposed for very long and not much grows in summer. But we do a few summer crops of rape for the fat lambs.
Stuff like crop rotation has been done for years, same with managed grazing. I don’t know if I’ve pointed it out before but we also have windbreaks around some paddocks and bush areas that harbour wildlife. 😊
@@TaraFarms cool to know. TY.
Whenever I count sheep I usually fall asleep.
❤😊
Sheep 👍
At what point would you bring another dog under the property to train when slug gets older?
Yes when Slug gets older I will because my dogs are also pets I will, have 4 dogs in my house.
so are your crops purely for feeding the sheep? or is that stuff human rated too?
Taz, do you get sleepy counting sheep?
No, it’s more stressful than anything 😂
So what do you use your sheep for? Wool?
Meat. Wool is a net loss unless you're some huge corporation
Taz, did you get hold of a copy of “The One Straw Revolution”?
I did it’s on my audible ready for me to start it, I’ll be starting to today.
Do you get sleepy counting sheep? And if so,,, does this affect productivity ?
😂 no I don’t.
@@TaraFarms have a fcken good day
😊 have you ever discovered a ewe having trouble lambing?
Yes, 👀 this week’s episode coming on Wednesday.
Hi❤.
Hey!
Just show your DITL, don’t worry about it being boring.
So how come ewe don’t fall asleep counting sheep ?
Because it’s more stressful than anything 😂
Why can’t you turn it 40 and 1/6th times then multiply by 2 before the other calculations OR turn it 20 times OR 10 times and do the calculations?
I don’t know I don’t do seeds so don’t question it.
They crave that mineral
Doesn’t counting all those sheep get tiring?
