Three stories examining what it means to live, find connection, deal with trauma, and do more than just exist, in the rural landscape of small mining town in West Virginia.
Story "THE SAMARITAN": Two hunters must make a life altering decision when they witness a murder in the remote woods of West Virginia. SHORT SYNOPSIS: Doug has been living alone in the remote woods of West Virginia as he deals with personal demons. When his brother-in-law and polar opposite, Ryan, comes to visit on his very first hunting trip, the two men witness a crime that forces them into a life-changing decision, forming a bond they would have never expected.
Story "FATHER & SON": A young D.C. lobbyist returns to his hometown in rural West Virginia for what may be a final confrontation with his dying father. SHORT SYNOPSIS After months of avoiding the inevitable introduction with his father Grant, Mitch brings his new girlfriend home for a late Thanksgiving getaway. During the trip, Hannah learns that there is far more to Mitch’s unstable relationship with his father than he had told her. Through their mutual stubbornness, Hannah realizes that Mitch truly is his father’s son, when they fail to see eye to eye on Grant’s imminent passing.
Story "THE MAYOR": Accompanied by a young student on Career Day, the Mayor of a small West Virginia town goes about his usual duties and discovers elements of potential corruption. SHORT SYNOPSIS: In a small town, Joe is the mayor, handyman, snow-plower, and even Sheriff. Leah, an elementary school student, chooses to follow Joe as her subject for Career Day. When they embark on an ordinary day, Joe deals with the every day issues of a West Virginia mining town while Leah tries to learn as much as she can for her report. At day's end, Joe discovers trouble that not only affects the town but himself.

Where did an independent film find such incredible actors? Everybody in this film should be famous. WOW! This is one of the best films I have watched since I first saw Owning Mahoney. Hats off to the writers, directors and these fabulous actors. I’m literally blown away by this film.

Fantastic how the 3 stories were woven together and the role of the kid interviewing the mayor was effective....showing how you can only find out so much, and maybe nothing, from a badly designed survey ......her youth and cluelessness about how to read the older man and his responses....he was not saying a lot more than what he told her, yet it is clear he is a man of esteem that is not reflected in what was recorded in the survey. And it's left open as the girl gets a little less clueless about him....that she might figure some things out before she puts that report together for her school project.
Gripping. Amazing how a day deer hunting can change lives. Well acted. Truly deserved the awards

What a unique and entertaining move this is! Quality script, directing and acting and the perfect locale. It is that special type of movie where you just can't leave the room for anything because you want to see where the stories go. WIth so much commercial movie junk being throw out to the public these days finding this gem of a movie was a gift.

The Mayor visiting his friend and his reaction was one of the best acting scenes I've ever seen.
I really liked this movie.. I'm an older guy and appreciate these kind of films.. Actual story telling that's intriguing and had me interested all the way through..
I've been to Davis W Va. probally a hundred times. This is a great group of stories and the actors were "real".
Really good!! Don't listen to the haters !! Don't miss this movie, great way they tied the two stories together! Anyone that can give this award winning movie a thumbs down, probably it was a little to deep. Really cleverly written! A+A+A+A

Me too, for some reason today I decided to watch RUclips films because it rained all day long and it was cold and I was very lucky to find the movies I enjoyed so much.

I being from West Virginia can understand and relate to everything in this movie.
I thought it was done in very good taste and the actors were great.
But I feel that the ending left me with wanting more of the story.

I agree with you for the movie ending! I'm Italian...know the language pretty good and also the use of the subtitles is a help for me not american but obviously I have some difficult to relate with the " pathos " of the story. Great movie by the way...
This is one of the most intelligent films ever made. Great story, cast, director. (spoiler alert) 3 seemingly disconnected stories coming together at the end to a gut-wrenching conclusion that left me wondering, "How did they (the filmmaker and writer) do it? I rate this at the same level as Mystic River by Clint Eastwood; the cast are similarly outstanding. (Note: This requires a lot of attention to details to really appreciate it). WOW!
Wow....and so we come full circle, with an outcome so uncertain....but I found in it a note of eternal hope: That honesty and integrity will overcome. It is what is expected of us all. Moving and beautifully written; acting spot on!

This was stellar. Exceptional cast, low budget and yet very high production values and cinematography. It is left up to the viewer to fill in the blanks. Glad I saw it.
The whole story just ended but it was a good film. It drew me in and kept me at the edge of my seat . Excellent acting. The background music was good not too much, not too loud but complimentary.
Quite amazing how these three stories were folded, infact, molded together! HIGHLY recommeded!

That's what I call a very fine movie. Well structured story, good acting, and a secure, discrete, competent direction.
Movie started out with great promise, but then it petered out ... The film was backed by the West Virginia Film Board so in the end it was merely a public relations exercise promoting West Virginia small town values and sprinkled with moral lessons throughout. I found the scenery fascinating. All that snow! I hail from an arid part of Africa where sunstroke and skin cancer are as big a danger as exposure and frostbite in West Virginia.

For a low budget movie it was very good. Good acting and story directing. One of the the best low budget movies that I've ever seen.
This was a beautifully done movie. It's well worth a watch. It may not appeal to those that are looking for a fast-paced, violence and sex filled adventure film, but if you appreciate a well written, beautifully acted, sensitive and meaningful film with characters that have some depth - this is a film that gets you to think a little, and ou'll probably really enjoy this gem.

Loved this movie. Being from that part of WV I know the town of Davis. The water falls they spoke of is Blackwater Falls, one of the most beautiful small waterfalls in America...look it up on RUclips. The people portrayed are just as they really are, kind, caring, salt of the earth, real and beautiful.

The ending left me wanting more of it..
Just what I was thinking, then I paused and realized it's just a movie whose tales entertwined to make us feel that way and where it went from there is kinda pointless really. The truth came out and was dealt with perhaps in ways that were deemed too insignificant to delve into, as many times it's best to let each viewer fill in their own blanks and that increases the good feeling for to have watched it at all.
