I'd say if you're going for a screen size of 55'' or above living room TV go with the 6 series. But the 43'' 5 series is probably the best value for your money you can get with a 4K tv. I just bought a 43'' 5 series for my bedroom and love it. Can't beat the Roku platform and streaming has worked great!
There's much more to consider than just materials and dimming zones.
The 6 Series gets significantly brighter, making it better in bright rooms, or for HDR. It has a slightly wider color gamut.
But the 5 Series has a better native contrast ratio and gray uniformity (so the colors don't look hazy). The 6 Series makes up for the worse contrast ratio with local dimming.
I recently got a 43" 5 series and for the $300 price tag I couldn't be happier and I'm a A/V nut.
Was a huge improvement over my 1080p 37" HDTV.
I have to go for the 5 series because 55" is too big for my bedroom. I don't know why the better models only have large sizes.
I own a LG OLED and and a TCL 5 Series. If you can’t spent the money for an OLED the TCL is the best bang for the buck hands down. Picture is warm and detailed, motion is great. The only other display I recommend is the Vizio P Series. All these expensive in between Samsung and LG displays aren’t worth the extra money.
If they had a 50 inch or 49 inch 6 series I'd be on board because it's for my bedroom. As it stands 55 is too big for me
I agree, I just got a 43 inch 5 series for my bedroom. Plenty adequate. Blacks are good even w/o local dimming
Mine 6 series is getting delivered Wednesday i can not wait
randy french you like it ?
Thanks for the review. This really helps in narrowing down my choice between the 5 and 6 series. Great job!
Would be nice if you discussed these T.V> as a pc monitor. I hear the % is really good at it.
Got my 65inch 6 series ordered and cant wait
Skeletor Five how is it
Nick flicks it was great but storm came and fried mother board even with surge protector. They were backordered 2 month so I upgraded to QLED Q6 by samsung. I loved my tcl, but samsung Q6 has much better colors. Depending on funds either one is good. Like samsung better, but tcl was brighter and had roku, but samsung has better colors and VRR and freesync for gaming.
Skeletor Five colors are nice but are the blacks as good as the tcl
Skeletor Five thrs always gonna be something better how good did the 6 series look tho
It would be nice if TCL came out with a 43" 4K tv for their 6 series
From what I see at Best Buy,the 5 Series panel is thinner--almost like an OLED. That appeals to me. I guess they need more bulk for the full array in the 6 series.
I originally ordered a TCL 635, but cancelled this and instead picked up a 535. Both are VA panels, so instead of IPS panels that have much better viewing angles, but no true blacks, we have true blacks here. They are also both Hdmi 2.0 tvs, not able to offer a full hdmi 2.1 experience, but the 635 comes close. The 635 does offer 120hz, get at 1440p is is over twice as bright as the 535, but overall the 535 will keep me busy until all TV manufacturers can resolve their HDMI 2.1 standards for games like myself. The price difference? The 635 costs almost twice as much, but offers significantly more.
I am really on the fence here over these two models or an LG sk8000pua. LG is gorgeous but really is going to stretch my tv budget. I am upgrading from a 10 year old Samsung 1080p 40" that has been working well I just want a 55" TV. I mostly watch tv shows and movies. I have a TiVo Roamio OTA I use for watching tv and streaming Netflix. I don't play games. I current my have a1080i upconvert DVD player and don't have a blue ray yet but am thinking ultra blue ray is something I'd like to get in the near future for weekend movie nights. While the better look of the 6 series is nice, not sure the plastics of the 5 series would bother me. Given all that do you think the 5 series will be good enough for me or would the 6 series be worth the extra coin? I am planing to buy something on prime day next week.
Same boat. Which did you decide?
What about the 4-Series? It's 2019 so it can't be much different from the 5 and 6. Wikibuy can't distinguish between them.
If you got a ps4 pro or xbox x go get a series 5 and up
I don't know if I want a 65 in 5 series or a 55 in 6 series.
I'm in the same boat lol
I wanted the 6 but the smallest they make is a 55", so the 43" 5 series will do.
Smaller panals are not the same as the 55 inch and up panals they chop the refresh rate and cut corners on quality
Hi well I'm thinking about the 5 series since it's 400 only at bbuy...I don't care about the modern look and I don't play video games...if the picture is very similar then I would be happy..so question, does the new 6 series blows the 5 out the water or it's close and I can't go wrong with the 5 series ?
$400 are you sure, I thought best buy was $450?
Jerome Mccree thanks I went with the p series priced 599 but at checkout it was 499 ..I researched and saw the p series is better than the c
GoddessKate1 p605 bb 499 55inch
salute the board gives me double image some way to solve the problem tcl 65s4
I want to justify paying $200 more for the new 6 series
Pinoy Zoi the local dimming zones
april M thanks because the 5 series price was looking nice. I do gaming but movies majority.
@april S 5 series is 240hz
How stable is the tv with legs inverted. I have seen many on forums commenting on inverting stand legs to avoid buying new tv stand
I have the 65" 6 series and inverted the legs and seems very stable. It was awesome that this was possible, because I didn't check the stand width when purchasing and inverting the legs made it fit perfectly! And, by the way, the picture is incredible! Especially with a Dolby Vision source
Didn't the P series in 2017 have 72 contrast zones? If that the case I'll save 150 bucks and go with 5 series purchase. 72 vs 96 zones isn't too significant for me as long as it has HDR 10 and Dolby
Tony Yayo the 5 series according to the paper work does not have contrast zones.
Thanks for clearing that up...wish the 2017 models were still on sale...no where to be found on either Best Buy or Amazon; been looking for the 55p607, but I guess its been discontinued
Tony Yayo its back at Best Buy
They don't have the 6 series 43in tho
Is there any difference in the HDR? I know very little about HDR, and am in the market for a 4k TV with HDR, but am also on a budget. TCL seems like the perfect fit for me, but I wanted to make sure I was getting a good HDR, would I get this on the 5 series?
Blu-ray Clips So which one should someone get, which is better? The P605 or the R617?
Thank you for the video
There are two versions of the TCL 6 Series 65 inch sets; 65R615 (Best Buy only with basic remote) & 65R617 (Amazon, others with voice remote). I don’t understand why they would make two different versions? In this day and age wouldn’t it be better to have a remote with voice command? I’m planning on getting the version with voice remote.
I broke my new 65 Samsung MU8000😢😭 I need another tv😫 Is this tv better than MU8000?🤔
I just did the same lol
Yes TCL are the best tv to get with good tech support from tcl and they answer the phones right away
Can’t find the 6 series anywhere
I need tv for bedroom is 4 series 55 in good enough?! It’s under $400
Get the 5
I would but the 55 inch is too big for the wall in my bedroom. I may consider one for my living room as I need to get rid of my outdated, Olevia, ugly tv. lol If I do, I may add a second ps4 just to test out gaming.
I have a TCL 49S515, why don't I have any audio controls such as, bass, treble, balance, mixer etc?
🤷♂️ Im trying to decide between TCL series 4 and 6. Excluding Dolby Vision HDR they both feature HDR10. Now my source for gaming only offers HDR 10 compatibility so would there be a difference between these sets with respects to the quality of HDR 10 only? Can the Series 6 offer a superior HDR without the dynamic features of Dolby Vision?
Im pretty sure the price depends on the parts they used inside because the 5th series dies out quickly.....look on other RUclips reviews
Do you guys recommend tcl tvs?
Do you get the soap opera effect on the 5 series ?
How do you get 120hz on the 65s4. It only show 60hz on the tv
They don't have true 120hz so you wont sadly.
Does the 6 series have a newer version of Roku ?
is the wide color better on the 6 series
What is the equivalent Roku streaming player processor in these devices or is it still the basic Roku TV experience?
Trevor S Roku Ultra but the Roku TVs have features the players do not.
The explanation is too generic to be posted. All that can be asertained by a quick look at the web site... What about the processors, the scalor units and refresh rates along with the zones and brightness.
Hey if you see this I wanna know which is. Eter for gaming and Netflix and youtube and I dont know which one to get on black Friday if you see this i hope you help me thx
And why does the 6 Series use 2x the Electricity vs 5?
Does the 5 series have Full Back Light or is is Side Lit(I hate Side Lit I think)?
Does the 5 series have equal wide color gamut compared to the 6 series .
Why is the 6 Series so much deeper than the 5 from the side?
Smantha Sheilds i purchased the 5 series and it says side lit.. good question about the power tho
Have you see same video on both 5 and 6 series side by side? Which looks better, by how much. And is the Light even on the 5 series?
Hey guys...the tv has a headphone jack one the back. What audio formats does that pass? I was thinking of getting some 7.1 wired headphones and plugging them into that. Or...is it just stereo. Does anyone know?
The P series in 2017 had 72 contrast control zones.... is the 5 series FALD?
Yes the 5 series is FALD.
Miggs No, the 5 Series has no local dimming, only "dynamic contrast".
I need help to get a TCL TV that will work with my Xbox one x
ty herring series 5 is really good for cheap
The 5 series has a metal body as well your misinformed.
Mine has lip synch problems.
Are you sure its not the service that's broadcasting?
My 55 inch will be here tomorrow 599.00 from Best Buy
Let us know what you think one you can try it out.
Cord Cutters News I definitely will
I got mine today and I'm interested in seeing other people's opinions. I'm not sure if I like it yet.
Delores McEachern how is it ?
43 inch Television nice enough size
Getting a huge monstrosity of a tv is Gaudy in my opinion.
A 55 or 60inch tv you might as well call them the bifocals of tv screens lol or even 70inches lol
I'll stick to my normal size 43inch
I like it
Your fucking awesome
N
My thoughts are it's best to keep the division between TV Monitors and Streaming devices. Purchasing a mediocre TV and a mediocre Streaming device that are permanently stuck together isn't my first choice.
Depending upon your price range, you have good options from Sony, LG and Samsung. I still find even with those companies their 'smart' in their smart TV's lacking.
If you want the best picture then I'd recommend a Sony OLED and after that LG OLED and from there their LCD screens. While I'm okay with Samsung, their LCD QLED (meant to confuse people by name) is simply a way over priced LCD. A good compromise are LG's B and C series, at least that's my opinion.

And what do you do when the next gen Roku comes out with all new features. My Blue Roku Sticks are all removed and sitting in a drawer.
Joshua Hanson
Try a couple year old Blue Roku Stick or an original Chromecast .. even on HD streaming. No, it's like separating a PC and a monitor. Even my Roku Ultra box is on the pokey slow side .. and our Apple TV 4K runs circles around it. Definitely get the best TV Monitor you can afford and the fastest streaming device but be prepared to replace the streaming device over the longevity in comparison to your TV Monitor.
Joshua Hanson
What did I ignore? The Roku Ultra is now 3rd generation by October or thereabout 4th gen and 4th generation with the Sticks. The TV's use the *same* processor as the Stick and Ultras. Most TV's last at least 5 years and if you've won the Chinese parts and labor lottery even longer.
You're also ignoring that the Roku's aren't even remotely as fast in comparison to the Apple TV 4K nor the Nvidia Shield. So if you like frustration then sure get the Roku TV.
D Jaquith no way I'm spending near a 1000 for tv...my budget is 700

And some people won't buy a TV under $3,000 or $5,000 or for that matter $10,000. I don't understand your point?
Damn I just got the 65" 4k HDR on Black Friday but didn't notice it's a 4series. Any big differences other then LDZ
