Totally agree with you. I own the 2019 4K 5 series 43” TV. And the 2020 mini QLED 55”. What people don’t understand is Flagship name brands already made a name for themselves, so they’ll sell regardless. So they need to put in the effort into their mid level TVs. I have had a TCL roku TV 32 inch HD tv for a couple of years and now just bought a 50 inch TCL Roku 4K tv and I have been very happy with both tvs very impressed with the 4K picture. To me TCL tv's are worth buying never had an issue using these tv's
I totally agree with you. I love my TCL Roku TV which I bought about 2 years ago, refurbished from eBay! It's a 55" 4K TCL Roku TV. I am a tech guy and an Android user and Roku is my favorite TV system. About the remote. You can find one of those more advanced ones that are compatible with lower end Roku TVs. Also if you use Roku TV app on your phone or tablet it has a remote so you can control it from your phone which also has a keyboard that makes typing and searching much easier and more convenient.
@@seekhim3463 sorry for the late reply, to me I just have it always on Vivid mode with brightness set to high. I game on Xbox One S and I noticed the HDR kicks in by itself whenever it detects it.
I was sceptical of my first tcl, but ended up loving it. Just bought my second one today 3 years later for my kids room and the original still running strong. Highly recommend.
You got lucky! TCLS usually only last 2 years. The parts in them are pure trash. Hollowed out caps, cheap filmsy boards, tcon board has old ass ribbon cable technology and their wifi card reminds me of something from 2007.
Great vid! I just bought the TCL 43S425 43 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart Roku LED TV (2018) from Amazon for $229. I could not be happier, honestly. I use it as a computer monitor for video editing and vector drawling. The text is crisp, very crisp, the colors are not for professionals but fine for commercial work. I have never been so satisfied at an amazing price. Don't look around anymore, get it! Sure it is a 2018 model, but if you didn't know that, you would still be impressed. It's you hard earned money, don't blow it.
I put the TV (in setup and in all modes) on “Brighter” and color temperature “cool” and mode “sports,” make the backlight, and this seems to yield the brightest picture with the most saturated colors especially in HDR mode. Make sure you enable ARC on the audio if you have a sound bar so you can control the sound bar with the remote. Also label the inputs for your game consoles so you can make sure you enable “game” mode for the lowest input lag. Make sure game designated hdmi ports are set to hdmi 2.1 for best HDR experience as they’ll default to auto sometimes. If you enable hdmi CEC so your Xbox with Alexa can auto turn on the TV when voice activated. This does require the low power mode to be disabled for quick start up. You can do Airplay now, it’s a setting you have to enable. Also, the USB port is good for a 32 GB USB stick and you can pause TV for 90 minutes. You can also turn off the light at the bottom of it bothers you. The 65 inch is frequently around $300 Blackfriday. The android version was $229 Black Friday 2020. 75 inch can also be found on sale for $500. If you are a cinema buff then get the 6 series for better contrast, brightness, and local dimming. If all you do is stream and game occasionally, the 4 series is great for low light rooms.
I have a 65” of this tv. It’s really nice. I will say there are nicer TVs like the LG tv, I have a 55” in my room and a 43 in my kids room, but this won’t disappoint. Also I have the wall mount he has as well. Works great.
@@PatrickJRoland I bought the TCL series 6 QLED 45 inch version. You will love it. Only drawback, certain channels arent available and you may need to attach your computer to watch certain streams where the Roku doesn't carry the channel like Nugs.TV.
JVee Veneracion the lg does have a nicer picture. I recommend you get an Apple TV or fire stick or Roku to accompany it though. It doesn’t have all the apps like the tcl
Excellent review and testimony .If you have a TCL 55525 and a Dolby atmos receiver this tv is able to reproduce the Atmos effect in Disney+, Apple tv+ Netflix, and Amazon prime via HDMI 2.0 . The Dolby Vision effect is more exiting and vibrant than the HDR 10 by far. 5 stars
Had a 43" 4-series that I use exclusively for gaming for a couple of years now. It's been great for me. I might upgrade to the 6-series or wait for their next product revision but I'm definitely a fan.
I bought this TV a couple months ago. The 65 in. It has impressed me and I bought a wall mount like that at Walmart when I purchased the TV, but an Onn mount for $50! Thanks for the video, I was concerned with not knowing anything about TCL as well, but like I said, I am impressed!!
Just purchased a 65" TCL ROKU TV 4K HD 8-series 65Q825 from Best Buy Memorial Day weekenk sale for $999.00. The Android ROKU App private listening feature sometimes has skips in sound and sometimes doesn't link up to remote without reconnecting wireless through settings. Any solutions?
I'm going to pickup a 55" 4k TCL roku tv from Walmart during their "black Friday" sale. I'm super stoked as I'm coming from a 43" HDTV that I got 13 years ago!! This video just made me even more excited about my purchase!
Broke my Samsung tv when I moved back in November and the 43” TCL was a way better deal than the 38” Samsung 4K I was looking at. Fit the same wall mount I was using so I was happy with it. 6 months later and no problems with it.
Bought this TV last year and I LOVE it!!! The picture is awesome, I added a sound bar and sports and movies are incredible!!! I would recommend this TV. The sales people will try to steer you away from buying it but trust me you won't be sorry....
@@williammials6080 cause they want you to buy the name brands like Samsung or Sony because they are much more pricey. They’ll tell you that buying a brand like TCL is not good for getting good value out of your TV and money. I’m returning an insignia I purchased during amazon Prime Day and am instead buying a TCL 55’ 4K tv on Wal-Mart that’s only going for $148... Fricken insane man
@@williammials6080 The T.V. Tuner works fine. In the winter I get get 50 over the air waves channels but in the summer the signal tanks. If you have wifi I recomend getting the Locast tv app. (It's free by law)
I actually went to buy an LG and my TCL was on display right next to it. The picture was just as good or better in some ways. I've had my 48" for over 4 years now and still love it.
One thing to note about Roku remotes. You can buy the upgraded remotes by themselves and they will be compatible with even the lower end roku devices. I would assume that the same would be true for the roku tvs. The highest end roku remote is $29.99. There is no need to buy a roku ultra if you just want the remote.
I still have the TCL R617 55” (2018 model) that I paid $600 for during Black Friday. The TV is still AMAZING, still impressive for a 4k LED with local dimming. Picture quality is also still great, beautiful color (once calibrated) and very BRIGHT unlike OLED’s. The Roku software updates regularly and will keep the TV future proof for some time. Overall I’m really impressed with TCL, when I upgrade I’ll definitely go back to TCL, literally the best $600 I ever spent.
If you're going to go TCL I highly recommend the 6 Series. It has plenty of local dimming zones for a much better contrast ratio and the TV is bright enough to do real HDR properly.
Don't under estimate the S4 series it has great color gamut (almost high gamut if only the TV were brighter!) and is an unbelievable value and crushes all TVs at a similar price point!
@Roy Fokker They are all fabulous TVs at all 3 price-points, frankly. I am using a 4-series right now as a humongous monitor and still feel like a bank robber having paid only $375 (incl. tax) in 2018 for this fabulous TV !! When I got it there was no 5-series, and no 43" 6-series, I would have been happy with ANY USA 4K TCL TV (except 8-series) !!
I have the 2018 model “55 r617 with 100 local dimming zones, it’s still awesome in 2020, blacks looks awesome and works especially well with movies that have black bars, completely blacked out bars with no light bleed! I’m still shocked I paid $600 for the set with such quality features and picture. I ❤️ TCL for this, awesome company and I hope they continue to put the “big boys” to shame with their ludicrous price ranges. I believe TCL was able to lower their prices because they partnered with Roku, another brand I can’t live without!
I appreciate your overall view of the TCL brand. I'm in search of a new TV . I've had a few TV's go out on me recently that had several yrs of mileage on them. Like 2 with in the last 6 months. I'm replacing a TV in a small bedroom. Upgrading now to a smart tv. I've been skimming through reviews had been unsure of what brand to go with. Previously Vizio, Samsung, { 2 Sony's ( approx 15 yr period ) } I might just give the TCL a try for the price .
I LOVED mine. But the backlight died 2 nights ago. It was the third anniversary of my purchase. Not long enough for something like a TV to last.65" 4 Series 2017 version. Plan on buying the Extended Warranty with TCL.
Roku remotes are different than TCL TV remotes and so if you want voice command with your TCL TV you'll need to get the remote (5-series 2021, 6-series 2021) through TCL. If you wait for a sale you can get a Roku Streaming Stick for as little as $32 (the price we paid on black friday 2020 - normally $47). It does 4K and voice command it's an RF remote (because the stick is on the back of the TV) so even better - no pointing is needed!!! The roku ultra and premiere+ remotes are heavier only because the Bluetooth uses AA batteries for longer life, and regular remotes use AAA batteries which weigh about half as much! If you don't have a TCL TV you might consider a streaming stick!!
That is an awesome wall mount. Pulling it out also makes it easy to get to your connections. I clicked on your amazon link and it is 129.99 dollars. The price must have increased. If it wasn't so dang expensive I would order one. You can get the ones that tilt on Amazon using a coupon for just over 20 dollars. I do feel these hold the tv more safely because the further away from the wall the tv is the more leverage pulling on the bolts holding it to the wall.
I'll be getting my first 4K TV as well (actually my own personal bedroom HDTV) I once bought an HD monitor that did 1080I, but it crapped out on me where a whole row went out on the display. Hopefully, they will make a 4K 120Hz TV around the 40"-50" range so it can fit inside my closet which faces my bed. If I can get one along with one of the Next Gen consoles, I will be happy.
I dont know if somebody already said this but you cant listen with your headphones any of the hdmi inputs as suggested here. Remote listening is only avaliable to streaming services
I got the 55" TCL 4 series. It's a great TV for movies, telly or games but I'm a very particular person, i like high quality stuff. I notice every little detail. It's not the clearest. It didn't have the most vibrant colors but still nice. Above average. But.... But. Of course there's a "but". lol. I would have spend an extra $150-$200 for a higher end TV. Samsung, LG.... Still a Nice TV but i want top end 4k. No pink or dull colors. No blur. Good speakers, cause in the end.. if u do get a TCL, your gonna need a soundbar. The sound is weak. Not much bass. It's all about preference. I like to think your buying a TV for the next 3-5 years, miswell make it one your gonna love.
My hisense sometimes didnt want to turn on, had to unplug from wall outlet. Contacted hisense support, they replaced the main boars once it kept doing the same thing. Then they proceeded to replace the whole unit, new one works good.
Got a TCL 55r615 (6 series) open box from Best Buy a couple years ago. Same as the 55r617 you can buy from most other retailers except it comes with the older remote without a headphone jack or voice control so it costs a bit less. Open box made it even cheaper. Hasn’t been force updated to the point of sluggishness yet, looks awesome & the Roku system is simple and great. I specifically bought it to pair with a PC; with the right settings input lag is lower than most other sub $2000 TVs (researched this for months). It’s obviously not a gaming monitor but it stands up pretty well for its overall versatility. If you’re gaming (or doing anything else for that matter) this is the one for under $1000. Couple cons: - first, is it’s local dimming, where on a black screen white logos like on its screen saver have the halo effect. If it’s a problem, don’t buy an LCD tv, this one is not particularly worse than most others. Blacks just can’t get black enough on LCDs. Opposite goes for its edges. Sometimes on white screens like when using it with a PC screen, the corners can get a little darker. Also insignificant and never a problem, I rarely even notice it unless I’m looking for it. - Second, speakers. Most modern flatscreen TVs come with terrible speakers. Thin tv, thin speakers. These are I believe downward/backward facing, so they shoot right into whatever it’s standing on. Get a cheap sound bar or pair of PC speakers. Less for quality and more for direction. It helps a lot when the speakers are actually facing you. Went from an older Vizio with a big frontward facing speaker grill and while this is overall better, the Vizio sounded a whole lot better. You also won’t have to crank it to hear it. - Third, there’s ads on the main screen. Just a solid image with no audio on the far right side, but you’re never on the home screen long enough for it to be intrusive. Pick an app or input and it’s gone. Mildly annoying, but easy to ignore. Helps keep them good and affordable. If you can get one of these open box from Best Buy they are less than $600 (two years ago) and I cannot recommend it enough. I shopped for months before settling on this and don’t regret the purchase even a little bit.
I could not find a better TV for the price this TCL 525 series is great ,I hope it lasts years the 40 inch I got in 2010 is still going strong Great Review Thank You
I have two 55 inch TCL TVs. Absolutely the best TV for the price. They are unbelievable! Sent two Vizio TVs back years ago and TCL is now the only TV for me.
Got tcl 6 series damn this beats the q80 r and x900f in terms of blooming and the difference is 96 zones conpare to 16 from vizio and sony x900f. Calibrate your TCL using IPQ using android phone you will be happy after calibration
I agree that it's not worth spending $2000 on a 4K TV. From our TCL 4-series 43S405 we upgraded to an $1100 Vizio Quantum X 65" + Roku Streaming Stick (necessary as the Vizio OS kinda sucks and goes on the fritz often). BEAUTIFUL TV !!!
I have the 55S405 in our living room. When my Samsung tv in my bedroom finally dies (it does once, but that was due to a recalled part so Samsung bright it back to life), In getting the 43" to replace it. I talked my mother-in-law into getting the 32" when her bedroom tv died, my brother into the 43" when he saw the price on it, my mom saw the image in his tv & will get a TCL of her own the next time she needs one. So yeah, I think I like them.
Also: do not go with the refresh rate that is stated. The pannel is only running at 60 hertz. They are using software to upscale. So you will noticing flickering and will impact gaming. If you can avoid a sound bar do it!. Figure out your budget and get your self some actual speakers, especially is you are hard of hearing. Soundbars will be a waist of money. And usually are anyway. lol
You hit on an important point, many overlook... The ability to change "Source" on screen, with little effort. (no matter what age you are, that is a PITA) And THATS why I have been focused on Roku vs other smart tv's. Also, roku lets me control my cable (app) Xfinity/comcast where Firetv doesnt. (I bought both, see Amazon reviews for proof) Long story, short... Im not fumbling around, looking for the Source button, I can do it all on screen.
Love this tv! Denon receiver and Bose 301-v bookshelf speakers, and acoustimass 6.1 digital surround sound with powered 10 inch sub is fantastic! Use as a monitor for ryzen 7 desktop pc, love it!
Purchased a 55in. TCL 4k hdr 4 series...(2019) model i believe. Really like it. Works great with wifi. Roku built right in. Good picture. Vibrant colors. Turned backlight down to 80% hopefully extending it's life and contrast down a little. Read that heat is an LED'S biggest death threats. Anyway....it was $278.
These TVs sell for a price corresponding to what you actually get. I have a TCL 5 series. I have flagship LG OLED and Samsung UHD TVs. Putting the TCL beside either of these, it very obvious all that you're not getting. There are no free lunches. You get what you pay for. I use mine only for game console and PC use only. It only looks good for movies and TV when it isn't beside something better. When it is, you can see all the compromises made in contrast, black levels, and brightness.
Totally agree. I have a 6 series 65 inch. Scenes that are very dark are just terrible. I'm getting a lg OLED soon. Twice the price but you get much better black levels and build.
Just one correction - you don't have to invest another 100 dollars in Roku Ultra device to get the best remote Roku has to offer. You can just buy the Roku Ultra remote for about 30 dollars and program it with your TCL TV. I did it with my TCL 55" 4K TV I bought recently. Also, there is built in Chromecast in the TCL TV.
I just got the Qled 6 series r625 . And I'm happy with it . The TV was more the half the price of the 1400 dollar lg tv my family got for their living room . It looks almost as good as an oled with blacks. And it's super bright
Our 55 in TCL was too good to be true it didn't last 3 years. It got to where it wouldnt show anything on the screen without factory resetting it using the reset button and then that stopped after about 4 months.
As long as the liquid crystal display isn't cracked ,the computer boards can be replaced making it virtually brand new again. It's easier than people think.

So these are the things to know about the TCL. IT'S 60 HERTZ NOT 120 HERTZ even if they talk about CMI constant motion 120 HERTZ. That being said it doesn't look bad in all fairness. But you're paying for 120 Hertz and you're not getting it.forever it was all about having 120 hertz and now these companies are calling themselves 120 hertz and they're not. Just important to be informed it's not a bad TV. I have a 49 inch TCL 405 in my bedroom.WHEN THE PICTURES PLAYING IT'S NOT BAD BUT ON CERTAIN THINGS I CAN SEE TO DARK MARKS THAT LOOK LIKE EYES ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. BUT BECAUSE I WAS DEPLOYED THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE MY TV WHEN I GOT HOME FROM MY DEPLOYMENT. I was one week over there one year warranty. Like I said this is a known problem and there are forums on it.
Was given a tcl 50s431 due to the dreaded black screen. Person only had tv for a year before this happened. Did some research and decided it could be a bad power supply board. Since they where cheap they I ordered one. Come today in the mail and installed it. Plugged tv in and boom it works. Got lucky I guess.
watching during the quarantine of 2020. Netflix and RUclips have downgraded the 4k streaming due to higher traffic. watching this video in 480p while i work from home :p.
Even today, only about 5-10% of content really takes advantage of 4K video. Things that exploit it are e.g. GoPro & Red Bull nature videos, the Netflix world barbecue special and Netflix's "Better than US" ( A Russian TV series about Robots ), and we have very few movies on Netflix that takes true advantage of 4K TV despite our 4K streaming subscription! You really need a director with 4K eye training and a special 4K location scout to find places that have 4K detail in the background setting to get value out of 4K TV !!
Between the Roku system interface, proprietary features, and the minor cost-cutting designs issues discovered after installation, it’s much better to spend a little more from a legitimate TV vendor then deal with numerous frustrating deficiencies. They provide a 3.5mm jack so I can use my 1986 Sony Walkman wired headphones or purchase proprietary Roku wireless speakers. So my new TCL TV is not compatible with my wireless Bose headphones, wireless Sony Speakers or new security camera system. Auxiliary Bluetooth transmitters are available--at an additional cost. The TCL remote sensor is positioned directly on the front of the TV. So if you position a center speaker anywhere in front; it blocks the sensor, which causes the remote to not function. Your only other option is to purchase a $50 IR extender. More wires and more time/ money. The TCL only has one USB port to source the extender power, so to use a remote control, you must sacrifice that port. For Roku, an active credit card to establish my free account. With all the quality-cutting designs and question both the reliability and longevity of this product.
My TCL just went out unfortunately. It was a great tv, but didn't last me that long. I'm not sure rather it was the storm that just happened or if it was just the tv that went out. Still I'm impressed with TCL overall.
A sound bar, are you kidding? You don't put a sound bar in a theater. A full blown Home theater system with a pair of good subs and dolby atmos ceiling speakers. Once you have that you never go to a movie theater again. They simply are not as fulfilling. I know, I have one and tried going to a theater. That was 4 years ago. The last time I would ever go to one. Bass shakers are a nice touch as well. No sticky seats or floors anymore. No rude people talking during a movie. If they do boot their ass out. Home Theater is awesome. Once you have a good full blown system you will never go back to a regular tv without it. You just can not enjoy it. All you think about is how much better your system is.

I have had two consecutive Samsun 75" 8k televisions delivered with banding/dirty screen. I see from my internet searches that pretty much all the manufacturers are having this issue on their OLED, QLED, and LED units. Does TCL have these problems whether I buy a 4, 6, or 8 series 75" 4k?

Yes my TCL s405 is a good TV except for one problem the screen uniformity. Yes there are dark spots on the screen. This is a known problem in TCL doesn't support it well.when you buy your TCL TV do a white screen test to see if there are any dark spots and if you see them return the TV promptly.

Same here, just ordered mine from yesterday's Wed., November 11 Black Friday Walmart event. Can't wait to get it.
@@kittiemuffins6609 I ended up getting the 65" TV that was offered last week. I also tried to get this one and it was sold out within seconds!!
@Chadmuska64 How is the tv so far? You got the serie 4 TCL right?
Broke my Samsung tv when I moved back in November and the 43” TCL was a way better deal than the 38” Samsung 4K I was looking at. Fit the same wall mount I was using so I was happy with it. 6 months later and no problems with it.
Bought this TV last year and I LOVE it!!! The picture is awesome, I added a sound bar and sports and movies are incredible!!! I would recommend this TV. The sales people will try to steer you away from buying it but trust me you won't be sorry....
Why do they steer you away? You need a subscription for Hulu or Sling?

I actually went to buy an LG and my TCL was on display right next to it. The picture was just as good or better in some ways. I've had my 48" for over 4 years now and still love it.
One thing to note about Roku remotes. You can buy the upgraded remotes by themselves and they will be compatible with even the lower end roku devices. I would assume that the same would be true for the roku tvs. The highest end roku remote is $29.99. There is no need to buy a roku ultra if you just want the remote.
I got the 65 and 55 inch 6 series and they are great so far. No complaints
I have brought my TCL 📺 Last year and my TCL TV still in good condition
Which model?
If you're going to go TCL I highly recommend the 6 Series. It has plenty of local dimming zones for a much better contrast ratio and the TV is bright enough to do real HDR properly.
Don't under estimate the S4 series it has great color gamut (almost high gamut if only the TV were brighter!) and is an unbelievable value and crushes all TVs at a similar price point!
I have a TCL R625. It's super nice.
If only the 6 series had a 43" model
I have the TCL 425 series (65in). I love it. I have my indoor antenna screwed into the coax jack too.
I appreciate your overall view of the TCL brand. I'm in search of a new TV . I've had a few TV's go out on me recently that had several yrs of mileage on them. Like 2 with in the last 6 months. I'm replacing a TV in a small bedroom. Upgrading now to a smart tv. I've been skimming through reviews had been unsure of what brand to go with. Previously Vizio, Samsung, { 2 Sony's ( approx 15 yr period ) }
I might just give the TCL a try for the price .
I LOVED mine. But the backlight died 2 nights ago. It was the third anniversary of my purchase. Not long enough for something like a TV to last.65" 4 Series 2017 version. Plan on buying the Extended Warranty with TCL.
I've been reading a lot of I love my tv but it died after a bout a year.
roku TV is by far the best TV I've ever owned ....I have a 39" insignia roku....I love it
I love my 3 TCL TV’s. Never had an issue and would gladly buy another!
We just got a 50 inch and love it!
You have to get Hulu or Sling subscriptions if you don't have them???? What about Local Channels???? Sorry I'm a Senior Citizen......
I’m impressed by the one I got. The screen quality is amazing I’m not a tv person but 4K looks good. Not far off from my Sony 4K tv.
Who got theirs at Black Friday 2020? We got Model 55S20
Black Friday is where it's at!
Is it good, it says it does 120hz?
Bout to get a 65" TCL today. My 55" hisense went into bootloop and every place in my city are out of all brands in 55" .
Couple cons:
- first, is it’s local dimming, where on a black screen white logos like on its screen saver have the halo effect.

I have 3 TCL TVs and a Ultra Love Roku so simple yet advanced
And usually are anyway. lol
Thanks for this! Walmart carries it cheap and I'm going to pick it up today as I dont want to break the bank.
You hit on an important point, many overlook...
The ability to change "Source" on screen, with little effort.
(no matter what age you are, that is a PITA)
And THATS why I have been focused on Roku vs other smart tv's.
Also, roku lets me control my cable (app) Xfinity/comcast where Firetv doesnt. (I bought both, see Amazon reviews for proof)
Long story, short...
@XMguy Thank you very much for answering. I'm looking forward to buying that TV next week.

Mine lasted 2 months beyond the 12 month manufacturers warranty. But hey, I enjoyed it for 14 months! I’m waiting for my replacement Samsung.
Was given a tcl 50s431 due to the dreaded black screen. Person only had tv for a year before this happened. Did some research and decided it could be a bad power supply board.
I just got a 43inch chrome cast. I hope I made the right decision.
My 40" tcl just went black on me yesterday. I have audio and the backlights work but nothing but a black/gray screen when on. Mine was 3 years old.
Thats sucks .I read the average life span is 7 years .

Yes my TCL s405 is a good TV except for one problem the screen uniformity. Yes there are dark spots on the screen. This is a known problem in TCL doesn't support it well.when you buy your TCL TV do a white screen test to see if there are any dark spots and if you see them return the TV promptly.
