Journalist - "You call him the guru" Julian - "It was his idea" Journalist - "Is he a guru to you?" Julian -"Not like a spiritual guru. With his name we thought it'd be funny." Journalist-"So he helps you tune your guitars?" (The strokes laughing) Nick-"He's not our guitar tech...he's like" Fab -"Tune my guitar GURU" Julian- "Oh wise one, please. Tune my guitar." Journalist -"These guys look like they could be you..." Albert- "THANKS. Get the hell outta here."

Actually, Nikolai's comment about the guys getting together because of their looks fits pretty good. It's amazing that five that goodlooking guys found eachother, and are now making the best music ever. (According to NME, they're getting back together for practice sessions this fall or something!)
when you boil it down, Julia is a really intelligent and serious guy. not in a bad way at all! he was just such a straight shooter during their beginning days because he felt all the pressure was on him to do well, and he really did deliver.

Lol at the people descirbing them as "toe-tapping" music. When i listen to them i really get into their music and the lyrics are awesome too. The strokes became my favourite band fast. It;s strange because i first heard their stuff from the newest album angles and wasn't much of a fan so i listened to older ones and now i love angles too. Guess you learn to love stuff
first impressions of earth is one of the best albums i have ever heard, and i have heard great albums like dark side of the moon, sgt. peppers, the doors, led zeppelin albums, etc. so firs impressions of earth isnt mediocre

Did you SEE (pt. 1) when Julian grabs the mike from Nardwaur, and goes into a fabulous F-Bomb rant to tell the interviewer that he is sick of people wanting to know stupid things about their band - all Jules cared about was that people would LISTEN TO THEIR MUSIC and then make up their mind about the band. He didn't want to be a Pop star. He was just 22 at that time - and pretty smart.

I read that Jules was very shy, and was (and is) always worried about sounding too big-headed in interviews, and he often thought "why would anyone care what I have to say?" The good interviewers always come away saying how intelligent and warm he really is. And they do say he is serious, but also very funny (if he is comfortable enough to let that part come out).
That's so funny--the question about "do you feel like you are saving pop music?" I just got this image of Jules putting on his red cape in the morning and jumping out of bed with the call of "I will save pop music!" bellowing forward from his chest. That just cracks me up somehow.But I love Graham..and it sounds like something he would say. I get what he means..just that their music is so much more quality than...say...Jonas Brothers or something.
