Thank you for the recipe . It took me less than 10 minutes to make it and I loved them. Washed my first load with it and I am very happy with the results . Thanks again
That is awesome, do you feel like it has made your laundry easier to get done? Did you make a large batch? Thanks for watching and we hope you have hit that subscribe button so you can get notifications on future videos and Livestreams.
I'm so glad I found your page im a college student and the cost of detergent that really cleans cost so much plus I have a family and little ones that are going through the bed wetting stage thank you so much!!! you have a new subbie
They turned out good, but I'm wondering if my pods are a little too big. I ended up with around 30 for half a recipe so I might only fill the ice trays only half full next time.
Yeah, when we made the pods ice cube size we ended up with 60. So if you made them the size of a rounded tablespoon, you would probably get closer to 120
@@sharonsmith1360 probably around $20, the borax and the washing soda is about $3, the oxi clean is about $7 depending on the size of the container, the ones iv seen where I live are $13, the zote soap are about $1-2. The scents people either have on hand or have to buy, the oils range from $6-13 depending on where u get it. So id estimate, max would be $20 minimum, $12.
yay Robyn! thank you so much! I finally found this video and I just went out and bought everything! those big bars were only .97!!! I'm so excited. thanks again!
Great idea, and seems pretty simple. I just stumbled upon your channel, and looking through your playlist, it seems like you make lots of useful videos. Tfs
i followed her example but did not have a spray bottle so i mixed 50/50 h2o and vinegar and poured slowly from my measuring cup till it got the wet sand consistency. i used close to 3/4 cup liquid to 6 cups powder and got 45 pods . after letting the sit overnight they came out great.
For a reliable spray bottle to keep on hand, I buy the professional spray bottles at Lowes. I clean alot with a bleach mixture and these bottles hold up to that and store for quite a long time before I start having troubles. I always buy 3 or 4 at a time and store the extras.
Robyn, this is GREAT!! I've made the dry soap mix but really like the idea of these pods! I want to make these with my grandkids as a 4-H project!! Thank you very much!!!
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make your video on your laundry detergent!! I was thinking about making my own laundry detergent but didn't know in what form!?!? The liquid would work ok but then I would have to store it. I think I will go with your recommendation!! Again, thanks so much!!
Robyn, I'm so grateful for you taking the time to make this video. I usually make powdered detergent with zote, w.soda, and borax. I'm going to make some of these tommorrow. And, I didn't know you can add essential oils. This will be so wonderful. Thank you so much.
This is exactly what I have been needing in my life! I have always used powder while my kids were growing up and recently switched to the pods since it seems like the detergent was going quicker than when only I was doing the laundry! The only thing I am gonna do a bit different if possible, is leave a container of dry mixture for small load or when I am in a rut and need to do a garment or 2 in a quick 15 minute load.. Thank you for makimg this video!
I can’t imagine all those things added up being cheaper than a box of laundry soap, at least not here in Canada. But I love your videos, they are so helpful and well done guys. Blessings from Nova Scotia
Jo here. Invest in Ziplock 2 gallon bags to put the boxes to prevent clumping. Also have you tried the Awesome at the dollar store instead of Oxiclean? Same chemicals
The oxyclean is full of fillers and very expensive! There are two options, either the Awesome oxygen cleaner as mentioned or the ALL free & clear oxi-cleaner.
Happy Thursday evening...I know this video is old, but, this really helps me...I really need to know how to make pods...you have come through...thanks...peace, love, and Blessings to you 😊
That is an excellent way to make laundry tablets! I prefer to use homemade to store bought. I like to add orange or tea tree oil because they smell so good!
if you was to cover the whole ice cube mold with the powder scrap of the excess use your 2nd ice cube tray on top of the filled try and push down like a press brush off excess back in to the bowl do the same with the next try to fill but use the 1st try you filled as the press. it might save you a bit of time and mess. hope this helps. x
That is great, have you given it a go yet? If so, what did you think? Do they make doing laundry easier for you? Thanks for watching and we hope you have hit that subscribe button so you can get notifications on future videos and Livestreams.
I use fabuloso for my binder. I saturate the powder mix, and add more powders until it is almost putty. After a day of dry time, I freeze them to get them out of the ice cube trays whole, without any crumbling corners. Aging them makes them very hard, and they don't resolve as easy.
That's a great idea! We will have to try the freezer. Thanks for watching but mostly thanks for sharing. Hope you hit that subscribe button and rang the bell.
I'm glad i watched, i have made some before to give to a college student. but honestly i had a struggle with silicone treaty because when i pressed down it flexed to much now I'm excited try in regular ice cube trays.
Great idea Robyn, ive only seen the liquid and powder form done...Do you have a recipe for dishwasher pods?? Would love to know if it can be done..thanks for the tips!!!=)
amandas garden I don't have a dish washer but i did come across a video on that... wish I could remember if I come across it again I will come looking for ta lol
When I make mine . I run mine through a fine mesh strainer or you can use a pice of aluminum window screen . All of my Dry mixture and that gets all the clumps out
I went to the flea market and bought an old cheese grater (that I would not use on cheese). I use it to return all of the dry clump material back to its powder form. Works very well!
I think the idea is fantastic at what you’re doing and thank you very much. I was also wondering if I use 100% vinegar instead of half and half water and vinegar with that be OK?
I don't think so. I think you need to cut the acidity of the vinegar with the water. Too much acidity could be bad. I also imagine it would make things too sticky.
Good straightforward video. Two things... 1) forming pods sounds a lot like forming bath fizzies. i think some use a meatballer to grasp and squeeze, then release and set to dry. Very fast and neat. 2) Also - I'm very leery of using Fels Naptha, or Zote. They don't list ingredients on their labels but I've written to the company and got them - they have some pretty dubious ingredients (carcinogenic). So... definitely use gloves grating it, but... as a soap maker, can handmade soap work? It will contain glycerine. Maybe like a castile soap? I have a lot of soap scraps, but i am wondering what that might do as far as causing scum buildup in the machine. Thanks.
This is a great video, I personally dont have a problem using the soap the regular way but for the rest of my crew (kids & husband) do... lol, this will definitely be a big help.. Thank you !
Jeanine K good question.... I would think so... it's all the same stuff... I think I'm going to give it a try cause I'm making the powered as we speak...
Thanks for the video! I just got everything but my local store didn’t have the bar soap. Can I use my liquid Castile soap instead? Also, can I use baking soda instead of o I clean? Thanks!
how do you store the extra if you do not want to make all the pods at one time? and would you just split the mixture before you start spraying it with the water and vinegar?
We have done both. We have sprayed the mixture down and then kept the leftovers in a container with the lid secured tightly. The mixture clumped up a little, but when we were ready to make more pods, we just wet it down again with the vinegar water mixture and put it in the ice trays. They worked fine. You can also just split up the mixture into two equal parts. Keep half as a dry detergent in case you run out of pods before making more.
I just made this pods using this recipe and after 3 loads I have to say that It works for not so dirty clothing. I breastfeed, give my baby puree food and my blouses end up really dirty... all of them after the washing cycle are still dirty... and some dark blue sweater end up loosing color BUT all of the rest of the clothing is GREAT... whites great, colors great, jeams great...
Just checking in to see how it went? Did they turn out ok? Are you going to continue to use them? Thanks for watching, we hope that you hit that subscribe button so you can get notifications on future videos and Livestreams.

The NAFTA Bar is smaller because it’s more concentrated it’s actually a lash soap where the result is just basically a step above bathroom soap it just has a little more cleaning agent to add to it but each bar has the same amount of cleaning so you don’t just use half a bar use the whole bar
Fels-naptha is a pretreatment laundry soap. Lately, it's been harder to find, so we swapped over to using our own soap. We will be using Castile soap in the future because it has great cleansing power.
I don't imagine that it would mess up the recipe. I'm just not sure how well it would hold in the tablet form. But it's worth a try! Let me know how it goes.
I've watched other people make liquid detergent that they then add gallons and gallons of water to after they cook down and melt the soaps in water. After they water it all down it still gets kind of gelatinous. Albany Mountain homestead it is probably close, but with all the ingredients together, the volume has more cleaning power than just plain old detergent.
do you use this only sometimes and then use the tide pods since i see many containers on that? this video is years old so do you still use these diy pods and laundry soap or have you changed that now?
The tide pod containers were from friends who saved them for us to store the pods. We don't use the pods as much because we have a hard time getting them to set and stay because of the moisture in the laundry room. But we have used the powder when they crumble.
I have a top leader HE machine at the moment. Used to have a front loader and didn't like how the moisture collected in the front. As far as the vinegar goes, it helps the powder to clump. And vinegar helps with the cleaning.
really love how you are making the pods but wondering if the wetting of the powder to help set the pods is activating the oxi clean which then will make it ineffective when you use the pods in the laundry?

Jeanine K good question.... I would think so... it's all the same stuff... I think I'm going to give it a try cause I'm making the powered as we speak...
How did it turn out?
Yes you can. The trick is to make them wet to the consistency of wet sand and then make sure that you pack them down tight in the ice cube trays.
what Robyn said
Thanks for the video! I just got everything but my local store didn’t have the bar soap. Can I use my liquid Castile soap instead? Also, can I use baking soda instead of o I clean? Thanks!
Yes on liquid Castille soap. You could use baking soda with the vinegar. But I have found that it doesn't kept whites and colors bright.

we are so going to be making these. thank you

Great! The vinegar will also help with eliminating Odor.
True
Where do you recommend putting the pods in a front loader?
We used to have a front loader and would just put it in with the load of clothes.
With the tough stains, you may want to spot treat first. I use the leftover powder for this. Cold water to make a paste. Then wash.
Maybe, try biz powder instead of oxy clean and white vinegar in the rinse cyle
Thanks for sharing your experience
This is sooo genius!!! Thanx for sharing

thank you for this video, looking forward to trying it out

great video. thank you for making it. I've always wondered how I could do that.

Zote May be bigger but it’s less condensed or concentrated so best to stick with counting it as one bar even with its bigger size. Hope that helps
That's a great suggestion! Thanks for watching!
Nice. I've seen how to detergent but not pods before. Great video! ~Heather

The vinegar helps activate the washing soda and borax.
do you cover the ice trays with something while they dry for 8 hrs?
During the summer , yes we will cover them with cheesecloth. That is just to stop any flies from getting in them. Thanks for watching.
With these pods do you need to wash with hot water to dissolve the grated soap?
We didn't but you could to be on the safe side
Gunna try this thanks 👍🏾

A great video ty! I have a question..do you use the essential oils INSTEAD OF like a downy unstoppable? Would adding unstoppables ruin the recipe?
I don't imagine that it would mess up the recipe. I'm just not sure how well it would hold in the tablet form. But it's worth a try! Let me know how it goes.

After they water it all down it still gets kind of gelatinous. I'm wondering if you cooked down the soaps in water and then poured the mixture into cubes without adding all of the extra water if that would work too?

so do you get the same amount of loads with cubes as you do powder? wondering if it equals out?
Albany Mountain homestead it is probably close, but with all the ingredients together, the volume has more cleaning power than just plain old detergent.
what Robyn said
Just came across this great video, and now looking for a bulk purchase of silicone ice cube trays. Would a 1×1×1cube be efficient?
May just have to double how many pods you use to wash a load.
do you use this only sometimes and then use the tide pods since i see many containers on that? this video is years old so do you still use these diy pods and laundry soap or have you changed that now?
The tide pod containers were from friends who saved them for us to store the pods. We don't use the pods as much because we have a hard time getting them to set and stay because of the moisture in the laundry room. But we have used the powder when they crumble.
why do you use vinegar for a binding agent. what effect does it have to dissolve the pods. Robyn what type of machine do you personally have.
It is not wet enough to do that
