    Hello got me a unimat db200 start doing little machinery work. I’m welder /mechanic by trade so machinists just naturally good fit. I love to make things. Been watching some machinists video’s to get basics come across your channel. I have to say some pretty good stuff, good camera work to. Well anyway wanted say thanks for sharing your time and wisdom. Now be more late nights watching videos to get caught up. Keep up good work from your West Virginia pal ,stay safe

      Hi Paul Thanks. Those Unimat lathes look nice quality machines. I've always wanted one of those.
      I hope to be doing some more videos on making things and like to show things that are relatively easy to copy.
      Great that you have skills in welding. I have only started in that recently, well I had a mig welder for a while, but just learning stick welding now.
      I have just bought oxy/propane brazing kit. I never knew that existed until recently! But I'm really impressed with it for making tools etc.
      Anyway thanks for watching and for your encouraging feedback. Regards Steve

      Steve Jordan I believe you like brazing it opens up ways to fix, join things that’s hard to weld or dang near impossible main thing to stick welding is to stick to it even when the rod sticks to it
      Thanks stay safe ur W.V. pal

    Question for you, Steve. Are you using the 7/16" Myford tool post stud and, if so, where did you procure a 7/16 BSF flange nut?

  • @reelmoody2376

    I like the improvement. Are the eccentric stop blocks needed to keep the tool post block from turning?

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  4 года назад +1

      Hi I put those on to keep the toolpost square and they can be used for this one when it is in the sawing position. They are just round, but I think I will make some eccentric ones now you have mentioned it. Regards Steve

    Hey Steve, hope your doing well.
    Is there an advantage of using that Collette with a drill bit over a drill Chuck in the tail stock ??
    If you make many more tools to add to your collection, you are going to have to build a bigger shop. Lol

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  4 года назад +3

      Hi the only advantage of using the drill that way is to be able to use the power feed. It can sometimes improve finishes on the work especially with using reamers. Regards Steve

    Hi, Steve, I have a Chinese mini-lathe and have followed your videos for some and made several of the improvements you have shown how to do. I have an issue with my lathe and wonder if you could suggest where the problem is coming from. The lather runs well but it keeps switching the motor off for no apparent reason, it can be free-running with no load halfway through a light cut and will just stop. Hitting the start button and it will start start-up and run again even when it stops halfway through a cut. The motor has good bearings and does not run hot. Can you suggest what is causing this

    • @SteveJordan
      @SteveJordan  3 года назад

      Hi Paula, It would be impossible for me to know exactly where the fault lies. Before I converted my lathe to VFD I had similar problems. It could be the potentiometer control or the main circuit board I think, but you you would have to do a process of illumination. That's what I used to do as I only have basic electronic knowledge. Sorry I can't help though, hope you can get it fixed, Regards Steve

    • @paulapage120
      @paulapage120 3 года назад

      @@SteveJordan Thanks for your response I have been considering the change to VFD and 3 phase motor since I watched your video on your mini lathe because I find the low-speed talk a little naff with the current motor. Keep up the improvements Steve!

      I think its ok for learning and one can learn a lot from videos etc. I have learned loads of new things since watching engineering videos. I really like my Chinese Mini Lathe and have made some excellent things using it. They may need a bit of adjustment here and there but they are a great hobby lathe. Regards Steve
