The problem with Millie is that she probably just has a stereotypical “southern farm girl” backstory, with not much to flesh out. We don’t need backstory, we need an episode that shows us how she acts when not thinking about Moxxie.

    • @kathiekalara6

This could've been the episode tho. Instead of Moxxie needing to be right, why couldn't Moxxie have just *been* right? Aka: the evidence *was* circumstantial and the problem needed to be solved by using Moxxie's methods. If Millie had chosen to be impulsive which we've seen from her in the past, we could've seen her fail. Then, she learns to do things another way. A less brutal/straightforward way than her usual technique. And it would've developed her. Sure Moxxie would've been a part of the plot still, but it would've been about Millie's character growth. Such a simple tweak and yet...

Sorry, it was related to Moxxie. Like he was the main focus, the person who forced the plot to happen in the first place and we got to know why he wants to do the job. Millie only got a spotlight because she was hot and cooler than Moxxie.
Like Millie but I hate that this episode is still about their relationship and not focused about her deep character. Also Moxxie was more annoying than ever in this episode. But the worst moment of the episode is Millie finding a killer just a few minutes and Moxxie spending week is meaningless because they could have killed him earlier but no.
Like how I fix that moment is to cut it entirely and Moxxie will try his best to find clues who's the killer and discover he was in the cabinet.
Millie could still have a popular moment but she is doing this to information about the rumors of the killer and gaining the trust of the camp counselor key to the cabinet lock.

@@chikebosah5714 That would have been so much better. Moxxie would still have been shoved in the background but they have a moment were he relaizes that's been happening to Millie all this time and lets her keep doing this whole thing. She takes the lead while he offers support. Rather than it being about their relationship, it's about how Millie feels, how she's been treated, how she's been shoved to the side. I like the fact Moxxie was put into Milie's shoes but it ended up being how he felt rather than him realizing this was how Millie was treated the entire time.

definitely!! I feel like a great episode that just focuses on her would be a backstory on her like they did with stolas except that it isn't focused on her meeting moxxie for the first time. maybe, like, an episode where she was a kid and got lost and had to take desperate measures to get back home which would explain why she's so good at fighting that isn't related too much at the pressure from her dad.

i think a Millie-focused episode would work out great if Moxxie was the rock of the relationship for a change.
for once, let him sacrifice so he can support Millie the same way she supported him - and no self-esteem issues; they've been addressed, what, 3 or 4 times now? and wasn't Crimson the root of it all, and Moxxie finally stood up to him?
he needs to learn to not give a f@c# about what anyone thinks (possibly with the exception of Millie). espescially when he stood up to the source of his insecurities 2 episodes ago.

Millie working through her issues being an emotional crutch for everyone around her, THROUGH Blitzo using her as an emotional crutch and then becoming self-aware, and both of them working through it together as Blitzo shows character development in taking the focus off himself so that he can support someone else for once, in his own funky way.
I can totally see him venting to Millie about Stolas or his family- we can get some lore in there or something as he opens up about his trauma. she listens and gives him advice, and then him being like "so... what's up with you? I've just been talking about myself, but I don't really hear a lot about you" in a rare moment of realising that he's just been leaning on her. and she starts going on about moxxie instead, and how she's been helping him- since we've seen that she and blitzo do talk about moxxie, what with the ball gag text exchange- or about her sister's birthday or something and as Blitzo's listening he's slowly coming to the realisation that he's been such an ass. like, Millie knows basically everything about him, and he can't even ask her how her day's been and find out, well, how her day's been.
so he's like "no, no?? I asked about you, Millie. what's going on with you?" and she's just like "... um..." because basically no one asks her that, outside of maybe Moxxie. and then we delve into her half of the episode, dealing with her struggling to focus on herself outside of other people, because she acts as a support system, the one who gets shit done. and maybe even feeling like she's not as important- again, her sacrificing things for the sake of others. and Blitzo has contributed to part of that in some ways. he might even learn some boundaries because of this.
shared character development as they learn from each other. because blitzo is so self-centered and Millie is so selfless, they develop from each other.

    • @bluebird1914
      @bluebird1914 11 месяцев назад +14

So true. I mean personally, I imagine that Millie was attracted to Moxxie because he's very different from the other imps in Wrath which I imagine have a lot of toxic masculinity to them, meanwhile we have Moxxie who willingly wears dresses and skirts, is very openly sensitive, and is into theatre which definitely isn't a traditionally 'manly' thing.
But it could also be an underdog thing for all we know because if you think about it, Moxxie and Millie both have the same problem, they just express it in different ways. That problem being insecurity.
With Moxxie it's very obvious, and he has a habit of kind of making it everyone else's problem.
But with Millie, it's much more internal. She acts like she has it all together, while turning those feelings of not beign special inwards, which I imagine would've had a lot to do with how she was raised since her parents don't strike me as the kind of people who really do 'feelings'
Therefore, maybe Millie was attracted to Moxxie because she could relate to how he feels about himself.

Sometimes, it feels like Millie is attached to Moxxie or other characters like the goddamn Venom Symbiote, without really having the chance to let her own traits shine. I’d love to see a proper episode where Millie finally puts her foot down and says “NO” to complacency. Whether it’s her husband wanting to do something that negatively affects them or her personally, or her being inadvertently insulted, just anything to make her drama a little bit more spicy.

The issue with this is, when Vivziepop mentioned the reason they had issues with Millie's character, is because they didn't know how to write her character since she isn't broken like her husband Moxxie, Blitzø or Loona.
That's similar to the reason why the writers of Family Guy had issues with Meg is because they didn't know how to write a teenage girl and was mainly the target of jokes and abuse to the point it got old, repetitive and fans wanted Meg to have her own redemption and voice, have a chance to stand out as the series progresses. I mean, weren't the writers at one point teenagers? Didn't they experience the same things Meg went through in high school growing up as a teenager?
Long story short, with Millie, should take a step back and really analyze how she should be presented in the series so she would get the episode or at least the attention she deserves in the series.

The writers could have easily used the conflict of this episode to give more of a backstory to Millie. Think about it: Millie probably never saw herself as special because she grew up as one of five siblings in a poor farm family. She most likely had to share everything with her siblings and a lot of her stuff were likely hand-me-downs. Though her parents tried their best, it was difficult to give each child the attention they needed on top of the day-to-day responsibilities of operating a ranch. Millie tried to distinguish herself doing something that everyone in Wrath respects, which is winning in the Pain Games, only to be banned from participating after going overboard with it and then being overshadowed by one of her siblings participating in the same competition to add insult to injury.
Millie saw finding a partner as a way to finally have someone to make her feel special and to have something to call her own that nobody else can have, hence why she is extremely possessive of Moxxie. But, the guys she encountered either cheated on her after promising that she was the one and/or roped her into a relationship by making her feel special only to quickly stop prioritizing her needs after becoming complacent in the relationship (probably what happened between her and Chaz).
Then came Moxxie, who she might not have liked at first due to his lack of confidence and softness, by Hell standards, but she fell for him after he composed and performed entire songs dedicated to her. Moxxie made Millie feel special in a way that nobody has ever made her feel before and her disappointment in him in this episode could have been not just because he’s not being supportive as a good husband should be, but because he’s not being the man that she married.

When I hear the debate about Millie’s character development, a common thing I often hear is the “lack of a tragic backstory” aspect. Now overcoming a conflict of some type is a pillar of character development imo, and it doesn’t always need to include an edgy tragedy to work. Happy campers was a great episode, but for every other character, we’ve got a glimpse of something they’ve had to overcome in their past. This could also work with Millie:
One of the highlights of Millie’s character is how skilled she is in combat. If we got an episode focusing on Millie’s backstory, about how hard she had to work and the adversities she had to overcome in order to get as strong as she is, I think it’d be a solid way to complete her character, at least in my opinion.

We've only evenme seen them as this loving and supportive and occasionally lovey-dovey selves, and keep in mind, they've pnly been married for one year. It's difficult if not impossible to stay in the honeymoon phase unlesss they make compromises and sacrifices, something that only Millie has been doing and not Moxxie, ehich is where the probkem lies. Moxxie (albeit unintentionally) was all take and no give, and he needed to learn to make compromises and sacrificed for his wife just as Millie had been making compromises and sacrifices for her husband. Both spouses need to make compromises and sacrifices for all of their needs and priblems, or the relationship will not work.

I've generally liked Millie's skill and personality even if she hasn't had her own episode yet. Also, I agree in wanting to see more of Millie's relationships beyond Moxxie, notably Loona as you brought up. Because for me, one of the things I loved about S1E6 Truth Seekers is how the plot forces Loona and Millie to work as a duo to save the boys. Loona, despite her teenage apathy facade, sees Millie in distress and tries to comfort Millie and even if Millie comedicly (at the time) chews Loona out to open the portal again, I find it so fascinating of their chemistry and teamwork. Because note, Loona doesn't do something similar to asking if someone's okay until talking to Octavia, albeit, compared to Millie where Loona looked unsure of how to approach but does so anyways, Loona was more calm and had big sis vibes on her approach to calming down Octavia.
I wanna see more between Loona and Millie. Like why Millie has yet to call Loona by her name on screen and does she notice it's a dick move to just refer Loona as "hellhound"? Does Millie think it doesn't hurt and if told it does, will she shown be sorry about it? I crave for stuff like that. And also Millie and Blitzø, I imagine their relationship is causal on a level but much like the other relationships, what kind of bumps are there?
I agree this recent episode was a step in the right direction. A good seeded foundation to expand upon more about Millie in the future. Especially since, apparently, according to a Spindlehorse staff member, a flashback to how Millie and Chaz's relationship was cut in Exes and Oohs for pacing issues. It could be bundled to make a full on Millie episode or so. Giving us more bit about Millie.
Also I've been enjoying Season 2 in general, minus a lot of uproar but again, I'm liking what the show is presenting and am calmly waiting for the next episode. But if I could talk a bit on that, I wonder if some folks are a bit winded over the more occurring A and B plots we've had compared to Season 1. To which, I can see why. Either way, I cannot wait for more Helluva Boss~

While the episode doesn't fix the "Millie problem", I agree that it sets the stage for it TO BE fixed, and makes the "Millie problem" into an in-series part of her character, along with her disappointment of being viewed as little more than a killing machine.
I think this is a nice strategy that makes any eventual conflict with the other characters feel earned and justified, and may spur Millie to actively seek some her-time, either by pursuing her own ends for a change, or dealing with a distinct Millie problem, like her family (parents or Sally-May), the fallout of her getting upset (let's face it, she's bound to have tons of people that'll want a piece if her after she's rampaged (also explore what makes her upset, like why she's often way more aggressive when Moxxie isn't around)), or, the big one, just what made her not view herself as special and this overwhelming willingness to stand back and support others at the cost of her own feelings.

The only reason she get‘s more screen time is because she‘s the target of the day for Moxxie to project his insecurities onto. All she get‘s is one song and one scene where she gets to say two sentences about her feelings for once. Feelings that still somehow involve Moxxie. And all that while she‘s literally posing as someone else. How can this be a Millie episode when she doesn‘t even get to fully be herself for most of it?
I‘d hate for the fandom to just be satisfied with these crumbs. I agree, she doesn‘t need to have a tragic backstory or be emotionally unstable. She‘s actually wonderful as the only somewhat stable person in a cast of insecure trauma chaos. But like, EXPLORE that. Do y‘all have even the slightest idea how exhausting it must be to deal with this amount of bullshit from everyone around you, including your husband, and never get to even mention your own feelings? U think it wouldn‘t affect you if the person you love constantly talks down on themselves and seems to have this deeply rooted self hatred? And no matter what you say to them, reassure them, raise them up, support them, they never even seem to get at least a little bit more confident? That‘s not just exhausting, that‘s heart breaking. It can lead you to go right down with them into that dark spiral if you‘re not strong enough and let it get to you too much. Millie is strong in more ways than one and I want the writers to show us.

    Fantastic commentary as usual!
I do agree that we need more on Millie and what her relationships are actually like outside of Moxxie, but I do gotta say that I kinda disagree on her combat/power level being inconsistent.
While I agree that it's been used to side line her somewhat, it always made sense to me because Millie has been shown to be excitable to the point of impulsive, a bit of a literal loose cannon, so to me it makes sense completely that a glass bottle or a bear trap would decommission her because it would basically get her out of her vibe and disturb her hyperfocus during a fight. And it's even more clear since she literally throws herself into battle nearly every time, not thinking things through and out of everyone she has a close combat approach (like Luna but Luna doesn't join every fight) so her getting hit and taken out makes sense then.
Plus it offers a nice contrast to Moxxie always overthinking/overplanning his every move, while she just goes with the flow/jumps all in. And unhappy campers just blasted that side of their relationship on screen for me, albeit the contrasting side of it rather than the usual complimenting one we've been getting until now.

I would fucking kill for a episode focused on Millie and loona together, they're both very emotional and impulsive temperament characters in very different ways, plus the constant casual racism she sends towards loona, especially since the only one that does it feels like a really good potential conflict between the two characters that if addressed, say it starts with loona finally reacting (which I'm honestly surprised she hasn't yet) and build off from there, exploring the why, building up both Millie and loona as individuals but creating a proper bond perhaps them learning that they can relate to eachother in many different ways and giving Millie another fleshed out relationship with a character she so desperately needs.

I think the reason Millie hasn’t had an episode is because her episode will be about how she feels ignored. This is even more reinforced by Happy Camper

You do a good job not just rehashing analysis of Millie. Not only is there a bit of new stuff about her here, but there's also a lot of examination of the type of show Helluva Boss even IS.

i agree with you in how unhappy campers is a moxie episode
when i saw unhappy campers i ended it thinking "that wasn't the millie episode was it?"
it gave her more focus yeah but it was still more about moxie. i hope millie gets her own episode about her without moxie, or minimal moxie

I think this is a good start, and I hope it’s a sign of more to come. Honestly I don’t specifically need a Millie focused episode, but I’d like it if she had an effect on the story/ strong opinions about characters that effect the dynamic. It seems right now like she just mirrors what Moxxie or Blitzø think of people but less intensely.

I agree, she definitely needs her own episode explaining where she came from. One line from Harvest Moon Festival that's always had me curious is when her mom mentions that she went freelance.

There’s is so much potential. Having so many siblings she was bound to feel either neglected or like she was replaceable.
The only thing she’s seems to be good at is killing but everyone can do it and in the group it seems Blitzo is the best at killing.
Have hwr compare herself to Moxie and Blitzo as Moxie is artistic guy who can sing, play instruments, write songs/poetry etc. Blitzo started his own successful company.
Millie doesn’t do anything unique by wrath standards and she’s an imp so there’s that inferiority factor as well.

I definitely agree that Unhappy Campers is a good start. I personally would love to see more of her relationship with the rest of her family. An episode with her going on an adventure with her sister could be fun.

To me unhappy campers was a start, it's an episode to give hints to what her inner conflicts might be. So when the episode dedicated to her (hopefully soon) comes out, it doesn't seem out of nowhere. Though this was definitely too late in the story to happen, like if you took out the subplot of blitz looking for his sister, unhappy campers could've easier replaced season 1 episode 4

Stolas is Blitz's complicated romantic partner
    Loona is Blitz's daughter
    Moxxie is Blitz's co-worker
Millie is Blitz's _friend,_ really his only one when you think about it.

I just realized something, is she just one of those characters that are just there, it happens a lot and shows there's just a character that's there. They are main character, but nothing really is ever done with them, they have stuff about them, and we do learn some things, but at the end of the day, they don't get really anything sometimes they might have some small parts in episodes like take Lily from modern family. She was a baby for the chunk of it, but even when she became a teenager, they didn't do anything with her, in fact, she never actually. Had her own episode like a lot of other characters

Millie just feels like an example to me of a problem I see with how some women in media are written where as soon as you are part of a relationship its no longer your story. You are now a supporting memeber of his story. She has to play the supporting roll of being the wife. This is of course not 100%, and there are many examples of it in other ways, naturally, but I notice it sometimes being shunted to "the wife" or "the mom" roll and dynamic characters are for spouces or children. Like it happens just enough in media to be annoying even if it's not all the time, and I want to love Helluva Boss more, but Millie feels like the character I would relate to the most out of everyone, but I wish I could know if they would focus on her.

Millie has a lot of potential as a character. I really liked this episode bc even if it wasn’t a full on Millie episode we still got a glimpse of more to her character. I’d absolutely love more episodes of her. Maybe a Blitzø and Millie episode, where we get a backstory with them and more Millie development. I’d absolutely love to watch that

My theory is that crimson is not just moxxies dad but strikers too. I think he might've slept with a loan shark and threw her away in wrath where he picked up moxxies mom after she got preg cause he didn't want a hybrid dragging his name down. If you put striker, moxxie, and crimson all next to each other you cant say there no resemblance especially in the horns and Fizzipop DID say that Striker is half imp. I really hole this kdea gains traction.
