The new lenses are the real stars of this announcement, and I appreciate that you are one of the few (the only?) person I’ve heard so far giving them any attention.
This camera is MORE than enough for most folks out there and especially so for RUclipsrs! It's solid. Sure it's not for me as a professional shooter but who cares!!! It's not aimed at me and I love that they've done this camera! Now the 500mm has me flummoxed. It's FAR too long for most sports photography. And isn't a first choice length for most sports/news shooters out there like myself. I'm not sure why they've jumped right past making a 300mm and 400mm which would sell in FAR higher numbers IMO (based on 30+years shooting professionally news/sports).
They picked the 500mm as it is a rework of the GFX 500 re-engineered to fit the X line. I figure they will get a return on that investment. When I've got some extra cash and they go on rebate down the line I could well be tempted. I don't shoot sports or news and have lenses that would suit if I did. Cracking piece of kit for wildlife and aviation.
@@BB-ft6nd no it's for whatever. There's NO set purpose for ANY lens. My point is, as you know, this is VERY limited appeal. They've chosen to NOT release a more usable length like a repurpose of the 250 GR F4 that WOULD sell better than this 500 ever would.

My favorite gear announced today was the 500mm since I love shooting wildlife. That new 16-55 though… wow. Hope you’re getting better.
10:09 definitely want to hear from you the difference between the 500mm vs 150-600mm. On paper sounds like the zoom is a better lens but the IQ? Worth it?
Hi Hugh. I used to have the original 16-55 but replaced it with the Tamron 17-70 f2.8. They render differently, however they both do a great job. The Tamron in the UK sells new for just under £700. I can't see myself considering the new 16-55. The extra reach of the Tamron and the weight at 530 gms makes it a keeper for me.
The fact that the Tamron goes out to 70mm does seem to be something special about that lens. 70mm at f/2.8 has a look not dissimilar to a 50mm f/2, if aiming for subject separation. But it's also the largest of the bunch of f/2.8 zooms. All optics are tradeoffs, eh?
@@thebitterfig9903 Agreed. For me the Tamron accompanied by the Fuji 70-300 with the X-T5 is a really good main set up. Plus the less take the same filter size. Two lenses lenses covering 25 to 450 FF equivalent for the weight and A/F performance is damn good combo.
Always enjoy! I did watch the PetaPixel review and the OIS didn’t look too bad, but it has a 1.32 crop. Look forward to when folks get to test this camera more fully. It looks good on paper (and physically) IMO and a good fit for intended market (somewhat like ZV E10 ii but with style..subjective).

Fujifilm has always impressed me with it's choices in camera ranges/models. And as you say, it's great at iterating designs; something sorely lacking at Panasonic with scattergun approach to introducing one off designs.
Yes, I've sold my Lumix S9 mainly due to L mount lens prices and weight. I ordered the X-M5 today as it appears to be the same less IBIS as my X-S20, which has great autofocus. I'll retire my X-M1 daily now; the S9 was an expensive dead end for me. The XC 15-45mm makes great images but is noisy and the zoom stutters. The XC 35mm I have on my X-M1 is great and the optics are the same as the XF 35mm.
Panasonics AF blows fujis AF out of the water. I sold my XS20 specifically because of the autofocus. If it wasn't for the poor AF I would have kept it. I actually liked that camera.

I don't know if there are massive size and weight savings to be had if doing a fully X-Mount design. The Fuji 100-400 is fairly comparable to full-frame lenses of similar focal length and aperture, the Fuji 150-600 as well. The 50-140/2.8 is fairly similar in size and weight to the Olympus 40-150/2.8 for m43. Seems as though for high-quality telephoto lenses, the focal length and aperture just are what they are. For budget lenses, you'll see 50-200-ish APS-C telephotos being rather small, but once really going in hard on image quality, glass is glass.
Exactly. As soon as the front elements start dominating the weight, probably above 56 mm for APSC, but at 500 mm for sure, there's basically no weight saving going from medium format to full frame to APSC. It's perfectly fine to re-use the GF formula for an XF lens. The 500 5.6 PF with finger is heavier and more expensive than the new Fuji by the way...
It should also be mentioned that Fuji no doubt engineered the X and GFX lenses at the same time, so they didn't just take a GFX lens and chuck an X mount on it, more likely they tried to optimise for both image circles. Also, using a Nikon lens with an adapter is never going to be as usable or reliable as a native lens.
