In Atlantic City, late in his career, Joe Strummer handed out flyers for his show to passers by on the Boardwalk. He was a humble, gentle, courtly man. Thanks, J.S.

I was at the Rainbow that night, right at the front. A great gig. No violence. Chairs were ripped up but handed over people's heads and laid on the stage. This was so we could all dance [ I danced next to Strummers girlfriend at the time Slits drummer Palmolive ] Strummer is wrong about the Slits appearing though. The full line up was The Clash, The Jam, The Buzzcocks, Subway Sect and The Prefects.

poor old Strummer - he kicked Mick Jones out of the band and with it went his career. If you want to hear how bad it got for him post-Clash watch the film Straight to hell whilst listening to his debut album Earthquake weather.....!

Well....if "he kicked Mick Jones out of the band and with it went his career."
Then....why on fuck do you say....."Poor old Strummer"?????
Strummer was a drug addict and loser.....and loser in life.
So much for your old..."Poor old Strummer"
He brought it upon himself.....you said it in your first sentence!

Stress Belden I meant poor as in the post-Clash world was pretty bleak for Strummer hence I felt a degree of sympathy for him. The Clash split at the right time regardless of who threw who out of the band - although they perhaps should never have released the "Cut the crap" album but then I've never met anyone who liked it anyway.
