- After our 4 day high country ride I'm jumping straight into the wrap-up and explain what worked and what can be improved. This is a summary of how different elements performed - the seat, luggage, tyres, fuel economy, lights, and more.
Further info on the seat - it's by Topline Upholstery in Seaford. Mario now has a template for this 9" wide seat. He used closed-cell EVA foam inside. It is super-comfy!

@Keith Jobson thanks for your videos, I have been enjoying them as I’ve just purchased a KTM 500 myself! I’m considering getting a “seat concepts” seat as at this point I don’t think I want anything too wide as I mainly do trail riding. Do you still have yours, and if so, would you consider selling it?
I still use mine from time to time.

Thanks for this video. I believe your trip meter issue is due to a dead battery inside the dashboard. Yes! there is a flat battery in there that powers the dash memory. My buddy had the same issue on his KTM EXC-F. I hope that’s all it is. Good luck!

The 3V battery reads 2.95V and it's only 6 months old. When I put it back in the dash works fine.
I might still replace it, but I'm not convinced it's the battery... Maybe a connection issue?
I am very interested in this bike but know that I would spend a significant amount of time on payment. Do you run a Cush drive rear hub?
No I don't. Never felt the need for it.
I now own a 500 and like you, I am convinced it is the best adv bike for me. I just sold my DR790 and it was probably better on the highway but not by much. I don’t ride tough trails any more but once you hit any dirt, the 500 runs rings around the DR, or probably any other bike. I fitted a Hahn Cush drive hub and raised the gearing to 15/42, which it handles easily.

Does it annoy you at the end of a dirty ride day having to clean the top of each bag to get to your gear? Anything in regards to this would be appreciated.

I'm surprised at the excellent fuel consumption (thinking of wheel spin and wind drag etc).

Thank's for sharing your experience with the EXC 500. It's my number one choice for an adventure bike as well =) I have one question about the front light though. Are there even brighter alternatives, except for the XL80-version, that offers higher number of luminen without having to change battery or other stuff?
You can get LED globes that replace the standard H4 globe. Cyclops is a common one.

Looks like the nylon strap is wearing due to that attachment buckle. It might be too sharp.
yes you are correct. I am experimenting with solutions... currently trying a piece of black poly pipe (10mm irrigation stuff) sliced down the middle and wrapped through the slot. It just smooths the edge off, and is thick enough to not get cut up itself. Seems to be working.
Great video, getting more and more into buying one. How many hours are these 1000km you rode during 4days?
about 20 hrs for 1100km, but about 5 hrs was sitting on the freeway home.
