Went to Block Island once. Many Hopperesque, moody landscapes. Worth visiting.

I go every year in May for my birthday. It's our favorite place in the world!

That was a big undertaking ,yet a beautiful story and the best way to preserve the history of a memorable lighthouse ! I know this is an old episode but still good to view today !

I stayed overnight there in early 1970s with a friend who's dad was the Navy Chief assigned to Block Island. Pretty cool.

In 1988 I was given orders to my first duty station in Newport RI.
The sound of that fog horn is what welcomed me to the town where my son would later be born and a place that will live fondly in my heart. I would lay in my rack listening to the sound of that fog horn in the distance. I knew I'd arrived somewhere I belonged.

Lived at the old life saving station at the end of Coonymous Road in the 60s and 70s.

I’ve never been to Block Island, but I did get to go to Cape Hatteras back in 1996, when they were preparing to move that lighthouse, because of beach erosion.

@@surfcleanyoga oh THANK YOU! I WILL look him up. I LOVE to read & I’m a reading teacher! I stayed in the white hotel with black shutters (Northern? I can’t recall.) woke up to an older woman in Victorian dress, looking out the window in the moon. I spoke to her but she didn’t react. She just stood by the window for quite some time. What I saw of her dress was exquisite…..then she faded. I asked the desk clerk as I was checking out about that room being haunted. He apologized & said it was the last one available for reservations & he gave it to me. He discounted my final bill & apologized again. Third floor, seaside. Hang a left at the top of the stairs, 3 doors down.
