Exfoliating Lotion Bar Coffee Buff - UPDATE FORMULA | Soy and Shea
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 окт 2024
- Since releasing my Exfoliating Coffee Buff video in July 2018, I have had lots of questions and I promised I would do a remake addressing some of the questions and concerns. I am back to remake the Coffee Buff and this time I am adding in Emulsifying wax to make it a Lotion Bar.
Here is the starting point formula. Remember, have fun with it and make some changes to create a product you want to use and reflects your business if you sell.
52% Hard Butters and Oils (e.g Shea, Cocoa, Mango, Tucuma Capuacu Butters or coconut oil)
4% Emulsifying Wax (depending on wax, you could add up to 8% - just decrease the amount of butters)
5% Stearic acid or Beeswax
31% Exfoliants if choice (e.g Coffee, Apricot Kernel, rosehip seeds, ground rice, sea kelp, tea etc)
Oil soluble Preservative - Follow your guidelines - I used 1% if you use more or less, adjust the Exfoliants or butters
Fragrance or Essential Oil - Follow the usage rates for your choice - I used 5%. If you use less or more, adjust the exfoliants or butters by the same amount.
Optional - I used 2% Green Coffee Extract. If you do not want to use, increase butters or exfoliants by 2%
Thank you for watching

That's so generous of you to share your recipe. Thank you. It looks like a lovely product.
Thank you ❤ it's a fun one to play with
This is awesome Keeley! Thanks for sharing and I completely agree with you about people making it their own and learning how to formulate their own recipes. This way, it's YOURS and you can speak to customers better about why and how the product will work for them!
Thank you ❤ That is exactly right. It's so much fun to see a formula come together. I've found the more I do it, the less wasted ingredients I get because I understand what I need to put in new formulas 😊
Awesome! Wonderful and easy to understand instructions. I like that you don’t just hand out a RECIPE! People, you need to know what you are putting in your products and why! Thank you for sharing you knowledge with us... it is appreciated. 💜💜
Thank you ❤ that's exactly right. I've seen recipes out there with expensive ingredients that really do nothing for the product and I've seen others that claim to be a type of product but missing the ingredients that make it so.
True... I’ve just recently moved to a different state here in America, took me years to make the perfect mild recipe for my skin and others. 10 years! I’ve finally found a good market to go to and BAM another soap maker.🤭. Definitely not like my soap... so I asked her a few simple questions about her soap. She could not answer ONE question..... 🤬 well shit. Where did she get her recipe from... by far I have to say that you explain things about making your products to a “T”. and that is the way it should be. Yes every soap makers recipe is proprietary.. and you don’t have to give the recipe out, but don’t steal someone else’s and then not really know how to make it. That’s it RANT over... Happy Soaping 💜
Awesome! You have a talent for demonstrating and teaching!!
Thank you ❤ I enjoy sharing
you are such a helpful and wise queen! thank you.
Thank you 🧡
What a lovely bar, love the smell of Coffee. That is so nice for you to share the recipe AND show how to make it step by step.
Thank you ❤ I'm so grateful for all the support I get that I share what I can
I love getting that notification that you have a video up. It’s my fav time of the week. 😁🎉
Thank you ❤ my computer was giving me grief so was a little late this week
This was super useful, and educational! Thanks so much
Thank you for watching 🧡
Well done! Excellent job of answering questions! Great video! Thanks for sharing!😊
Thank you for watching ❤
Love your videos. Thank you for sharing. I am trying this for the first time today. Decided to use jasmine rIce, black Beans and coffee grounds as my exfoliant. Wish me luck.
That sounds lovely 🧡 let me know how you go.
Thank you for all the valuable info and experience you shared in this video. 😊😁
Thank you for watching ❤
Extremely good tutorial, luv
Thank you ❤
I played with your last starter recipe and added an emulsifying wax and I love it!
I'm so pleased to hear that 😊 it's always fun to play with recipes
I always look forward for your videos, always informative, thank you very much
Thank you for watching and supporting me 😊
This is something I would attempt to make on a small scale, where I live I don't have Almond Meal so I'll substitute it with Corn Meal and let you know how that works out. Thanks for sharing the recipe and giving thorough explanations.
Cornmeal would be wonderful. Just remember this really is only suitable for cooler months. It will not ship in summer
Mines came out very solid. Have been using it for the past two months.
I'm so pleased to hear that. The Cocoa Butter is definitely the key 😊
WOW!! I think these are simply awesome
Thank you ☕ they're great in morning
Perfect! Absolutely perfect! Can't wait to make these! Love watching your tutorials 😀
Thank you ❤ hope you love them as much as I do
Another great video hunny I’m now extremely tempted to try making these following your recipe once I get settled (just moved house) I will try doing a video of making these and send people to your videos xx
Thank you ❤ Hope you get settled into your new place soon. The worst bit when we moved was withdrawal from making 😆
I loved your video. And the beautiful product created 💖
Thank you for watching ❤
💖💞Very nice! I love my lotion bars! These are so delightful!!
This was a wonderful video!!! So much content and information very well presented. Very nice work 💕
Thank you ❤
Lol.....1st....like I said.....you are my fave.....as soon as notification sent ....I watch .......my fave product ....thank you
Thank you so much 😊❤ sorry it was late loading today. Got to love computers and slow internet 😆
I was looking for the perfect solid lotion bar with stearic acid & ewax and WoW.. I found You! Where I live it's always hot and wanted them to be hard all the time. I have tried severals and they either get soft or too "waxy". Thank You so much for sharing! And I pack them exactly like you with the greaseproof paper and coffee filters! Thanks once again!
Thank you for watching 🧡 I'm so pleased this recipe is what you were looking for
@@SoyandShea Sorry to bother you but what if I don't want to use the 31%exfoliant (just a very solid body butter); should I add more hard butters and no e-wax, add arrow root so it's not that greasy as "exfoliant"? What do you suggest? Thank You!
@@LWLillie1 you need to balance out the butters and oils with ewax so you would need to experiment with increasing both. I'm not comfortable recommending what changes to make as I've not really played with solid lotion bars enough. It depends on if you are wanting to make a in-shower bar or a lotion bar.
@@SoyandShea Thank You so much!
@@LWLillie1 Hi Lillie, I've also tried to leave out the 31% exfoliants but failed miserably and I'm still desperately looking for an in-shower lotion bar recipe. Have you had any success? If so, please point me in the right direction! Just the butters/oils and wax combination doesn't work for me, it needs something that makes the bar glide onto the skin. Hope you can help! Thanks so much
Thank you Keeley will definitely give this one a try.
Thank you ❤
Thanks Keeley! Great video and info.
Thank you ❤
Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you for watching 🧡
I will make this for my friend birthday gift! thank you!
Hope they enjoy it ❤
Fab!!! I enjoy your videos. 😊
Thank you for watching ❤
Thank you! I'm so happy that I found your channel🙃 I do have a question when you state 52% is that the combination of cocoa and Shea? I wanted to make this bar but had no idea how. Thank you again!
Thank you 🧡 to make this, the recipe needs to be 52% hard butters or oils to get it to set hard. You can use any combination though I recommend using more cocoa butter than others because of its hardness
Do you have a video on the difference between preservative such as water vs oil and how to use these along with extract, water vs oil. I also appreciate you taking the time to answer your subscribers most RUclipss don’t. Thank you
@@beautybybredice9352 I don't have a video on it at this at this point but I'm working on something for next year.
I believe if people have taken the time to watch my videos, it's only polite to answer ❤
These look and sound so gorgeously skin loving
I love using this during winter months. It's like having a mocha shower
@@SoyandShea I would love a Passionfruit and pawpaw, something tropical would be gorgeous
@@tanyabonnett4174 I'd have to see what exfoliants would match a tropical theme 😊
I'm new to all this , love your videos , can you make a video on how to work with percentages please thank you 😊
Thank you for watching ❤ I am working on a video about percentages but it will be in the metric system.
Glad I found your UPDATED video. How do you save a batch that was made after the first video that is too soft? I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you for watching ❤ You could add a little more beeswax or some harder butters.
Hi there thank you so much for your video and your recipe. I'm located in Perth and am wondering where you get your preservatives from? I tried googling it and couldn't find anything that's oil soluble... Would you mind sharing a link of where you get yours from please
Most suppliers have them. The one closest to you is Aussie Soap Supplies
Hi! Thank you for the video. It may sound silly, but how and where do I learn to convert % into grams? I'm new to all this and learning by watching YT videos.
The conversion of % in to grams is basic math. You need to know the total amount needed for a batch and then you multiply by it by the percentages. If you google how to convert percentage to number, there are plenty of articles and videos on this and there are even online calculators that do it for you. Once you learn how to do this, you can make any batch size you need.
Thank youuu ! Can we use BTMS 50 for this lovely product instead of emulsyfing wax ?
I recommend making a small 100g batch to see how it affects it. It should be conditioning
Hi thank you for your informative video , can you tell me can I use grapefruit seed extract as my preservative, many thanks
Grapefruit Seed extract is an antioxidant and not suitable as a preservative
Que ancho y alto tienen tus exfoliantes? …. Súper práctico redondo
Lo siento, ya no tengo este molde y no recuerdo las dimensiones.
Thank you for a lovely video
Thank you for watching ❤
Hi, I had a question- I tried ordering Shea butter and bees wax and I was given a choice between refined and unrefined (for both). Which one is skin safe used for lotion bars and skin care products?
Both are skin safe. Refined is generally white in colour
@@SoyandShea thank you :)
Hi, I was wondering if you would answer a question for me please? I made an attempt at this recipe and used steric acid @5%, upon letting it come to room temperature after refrigeration, it got soft. I want to gently re melt and add 3-5% beeswax but was wondering about the preservative already in it. Should I add more preservative or should I just make sure the temp doesn't go above the recommended? Thank you
I really don't recommend melting a product down and adding more of an ingredient. You won't get accurate results. It is better to start fresh with the adjusted amounts so you are not decreasing all ingredients and only the ones that need to be used in less
Thanks for responding. Now to figure out what to do with this batch!
@@mumtoaidan how much did you make. I would recommend only making 100g batches when testing new formula to avoid to much wastage. You should be fine to use it for personal use
I made a 380g batch🙈....I guess I'll be using it for a while. It's currently taking up residence in my refrigerator. The thing is I watched your videos a few times, I heard what you said about warm weather but I went brave and did it anyway!
@@mumtoaidan this is definitely a seasonal product and you must make sure you're using hard butters too. I highly recommend making only small batches when you are testing. 100g is usually a good starting point
Hi Keeley, where do you get your coffee filters from please?
These were given to me by someone no longer using them. Coffee filters can be bought at most supermarkets or online
When using coffee in these sorts of products, is there a specific type or roast that works best or is it just a personal preference/whatever you might have on hand?
Any ground coffee is fine but not instant 😊 I like the richer beans as they have more oil.
@@SoyandShea I wasn't sure if just regular grounds would work or if something like expresso was needed. I'd figure flavored grounds would cause complications due to the additives though. And no, no instant unless we want soap soup! (I've seen enough videos to know if you want liquid coffee in the soap factor it into the lye 😁) and having the more oil rich grounds make sense too because the added impact of the scent then 😊
@@corarose3044 it would also depend on the texture you want. Espresso grounds would be finer. Depending how the flavour is added to the beans, it may or may not affect the soap
@@SoyandShea thank you very much for the info. I personally don't drink coffee. My mom however likes the flavored ones, the hazelnut and french vanilla being a couple of her top picks. Was thinking ahead about things for Christmas, and wanted to be more informed before taking that next step 😊
Wondering if I can use Optiphen plus as preservative ?
No I wouldn't. It's not oil soluble
What is it you are calling grease proof paper? Is that a waxed paper you are using?
We call baking paper grease proof. It's not quite a wax paper but similar.
Ah, that is what we call parchment paper for baking. Thank you!
@@lenandsusan I'll try to remember that thank you. 😊 I know parchment paper as a frosted paper used in card making.
Can you just use beeswax ?
Although so do, it's not recommended. It's not an emulsifier and feels tacky on the skin
What is exact recipe.
Have you watched and listened to the video? I tell you where the recipe is
