Can we also acknowledged the 20 year old young man that had the courage to help Katrina 🙏🏾
For real! I wouldn’t doubt most people in his shoes would be (rightfully) way too afraid to have that gun turned on them to intervene like that.
Ikr? Was just thinking the same thing.
100% - absolute hero, and so is Katrina 💜⚡️
Very true. Considering the 'adrenaline high' the ex-husband would probably have been on, his insistence to get her to the hospital could have ended very differently so kudos to him.
What an amazing friend who did what was right! At that point, Mr Irvin knew what he did what was insane.
Corruption in police departments needs to be addressed
They definitely protect their own. So does the prosecutor. Speaking from experience.
@@paularickard7285 And judges. They are all in it together
It’s as old as ameriKKKa pie…there will always be corruption
It’s a boys clubs. Guys protect guys. It’s that simple. You want change, more women need to be in the system.
Very difficult to address the issue when good cops can't speak up due to retribution from the bad cops, Serpico case and others over the years have proven that
5-15 years what a disgrace.
48 Hours why did you not name the Judge?
Ms. Katrina Brownlee you are one of the more impressive people I have learned about. You did this. What a fantastic role model you are for all, especially your daughters.
You deserve the best.
The judge probably isn’t around anymore anyways.
i was able to find the guy's fb. lol
THEY NEVER NAME the judges in the show in any of the episodes. They always just refer to them as THE JUDGE in the case.
For the most part, judges go by standard factors and plug some numbers in to get a basic range of how to sentence criminals. But I'm not even ALMOST buying that this happened here, bias was fully at work here.
I agree with you, shameful crooked "judge"
No more babies?
No more checks.
My daughter was shot 16 times by her husband deputy Dave Lewandowski in Feb 2017. Elizabeth of course, did not survive. I found both her and Dave dead after the hospital called me because Liz failed to report to work. She was an ER nurse. He emptied his service revolver on her then turned the gun on himself. This story hits home to me.
I’m so sorry. 😢
@NancyReeder I'm so sorry for your loss.
Sending you hugs 🤗 so sorry 😢
I am SO sorry that your story didn't have the outcome that Katrina's did. My heart aches for you!!!
My condolences.
“Success is the best revenge”…what a beautiful friendship between Katrina and her lawyer. ❤
Fact x❤

but she caused that hurricane to those poor black people. i forgive her.
His sentence was a disgusting disgrace and the judge should be ashamed
I agree ‼️
Why only a 10 year sentence from that stupid judge???
Because no doubt, that judge was the same way as Katrina's husband, at the time.
HAD SHE BEEN CAUCASIAN ' HE'D HAVE GOTTEN LIFE...

Can we appreciate that attorney? Wow.
So touching that the DA was the woman who fought for her when she couldn't is now her friend. She really needed that. She needed someone in her corner.
Exactly 💯. Her grandmother failed her big time telling her to stay with him. Ouch
Katrina is stunningly beautiful but more importantly, so brave and strong. 99% of us would not have survived. That attack would define you. Cripple you mentally. What a warrior. God bless you Katrina!
She is absolutely stunning😢 her story is compelling & sad.
This woman is truly a fighter. My heart broke when she says she chose him because she was in survival mode.
The system failed her.
I'm in awe of her strength
It's unbelievable what people go through out here. God Just have mercy and let Your Love be done on us🙏🏾😔
soo evaluations into her past would of made sure she didnt become a detective. the fact she considered herself a good cop while lying and hiding her past to the police you know something she actually had alot of arrests on her record for " withholding information from the police" so she went round the comunity arresting people for that all the time making sure they dont know her past. thats fking illegal
This man murdered is own unborn son and gets 5-15 years! Disgusting. What a heartbreak for Katrina and that poor baby. 😢💔
His actions were so malicious and couldn’t believe they only gave him 10 years. He literally acted like a monster. Sooooooo unfair.
I am just in awe of Katrina!!!! She as a woman and as a survivor her story is probably the best one I’ve heard in a very long time!
She should write a book.

That sentence was disgusting. Should have been 20 years with no parole.
Should of been life with no possibility of parole.
@@iluvdimmuborgir53yep she would’ve been dead if it were up to him.

Which case?
@@jimwerther the very first one in this episode
I think that judge was paid off
or believed in the system too much, blindsided by emotion rather than fact
Or THREATENED!!!!
With any cop trail the judges always always takes their side all in bed together 😡
Think it was because he was a Corrections Officer...
This woman is incredible - her resilience, intelligence and compassion for others had me speechless. I hope she knows how amazing she truly is and I hope everyone she encounters shows her the love and respect she deserves ❤️ Her daughters are so fortunate to have her in their life and I bet they are so proud of her.
What an AMAZING woman. So much resilience & power. 💕💕💕💕
Katrina's lawyer is a badass! She's amazing!
Katrina is so, so, so beautiful inside out.
She most definitely is.

As a woman finishing my criminal justice degree Katrina you’re such an inspiration
God Bless you Katrina, you are a beautiful lady and absolute inspiration to us all ❤
Katrina is obviously also very intelligent and mentally and physically very strong too.
I'm not saying all cops are bad because they aren't, but I did intake for an attorney who defended only battered women, so I was the first who heard their stories. I heard worse, barely, but the women abused by cops were brutal to hear. This woman ❤
Katrina, truly a survivor. Truly inspiring, strong, successful woman. I am 63 and this has touched me to the core. Much love to her and her daughters 🥰🙏
Omg I started crying listening to Katrina story 😢
🫂❤️
We know God was for her, the devil thought he would take her life. God showed him different, but she has been thru so much, I am so very proud of her for herself, and so thankful God did not let Satan win.
My "death wish," psychopathy & lack of willingness to live kept me alive -- odd I know.
My kids' dad tried to strangle me (among many other things)... idk why but I laughed & told him "he better be ready to tell my children how I died" & I continued to laugh.
He let me go with (what it seemed like) fear in his eyes...
I left after that with the blessing of all of my children (including my "forever" stepkids), his mom, his sister & my parents.
Never looked back.
After couple more bs relationships & tons of bs because of their own insecurities -- I chose to remain single... still am to this very day.
I'm much more content. 💯
Best wishes to everyone ❤
You left your kids? Or just the step kids?
You're a psychopath?
@@alex-qd6ofI don't think she left the kids, she left him and the relationship with the everyone's blessing including the kids ,most kids want their parents together and blame the mom when the family is broken apart instead of trying to see what happened to make it that way, when it could have been life or death (this being a prime example of that). I have seen with my own eyes families making excuses for the abuser telling the women (almost begging them) to stay with their sons it's crazy they will get mad when they would call the police or even talk to anyone about it, because "it was family business" I unfortunately have learned about verbal, emotional and mental abuse but it's not serious like physical so it's ignored, jokes made, they egg on the BS and any time you say anything to stand up villain, so you think there is no point, everything you say/do is wrong so getting the blessing she doesn't have to get it but it makes things easier, the constant blaming you and guilting you into stay because you misunderstanding things or need to get over things glad her family gave/became her support because without it gathering strength to leave can be hard
This maniac should be put in jail for life.
He definitely needs counseling.
I wonder how many people in the jail he tortured.😢😮
Right! They should investigate him…
His sentence was so upsetting but Katrina can win by just living her life to the fullest for herself and her babies ❤

5 -15 years for shooting Katrina10 times is way too short a sentence. By getting Police certification, her Ex knows she can blast him, if he ever comes near her again. What a strong & beautiful lady! WITH POWER COMES CORRUPTION!
Not to mention he killed his own unborn son.
One of the main reasons why i don't mind being alone. I was in two abusive relationships in the 90s and i don't want to endure that ever again
20:10 takes one person with hope to give someone else faith. I'm in ICU RN. But I am now currently on the other side. I went from cane to a walker now I am wheelchair-bound after working through covid. I had an ill bipolar husband who died 3 hours before my father passed away in separate hospitals. Unexpectedly. This brave woman definitely had God with her that day. I'm glad she survived.
There is no god. You're talking nonsense. She's just a pillar of strength. A god deserves no credit. She did this herself.
@@spybazyou are right! No need for any religions. We all know right from wrong.

How come they don't show his face just because he's the cop doesn't mean he's privileged. Show his face like they show everybody else's. All this happened because cops take a note and protect even crooked and bad cops.
I don't think his face was hidden because he was a police officer. This happens a lot now. A man in my town killed his girlfriend's mother and then beat her into a coma. After a massive search he was arrested. Did the news show him? Nope.....It's skin color unfortunately. Killers regardless of what they look like should have no media protection.

Why don't the government look after women with kids like they do in the UK?
Because of the right wing, mostly.
They only care about children, until they're born.
They only care about the dollar bill. Pay your taxes and don’t complain about anything
We are indeed very lucky like that here .
The UK had to do it because the abuse had gotten so bad, they have way more deaths on average compared to the US and we have 300M more people.
There are too many in the US. It's an epidemic
Seth's daughter's interview blows up the suicide claim. Nobody's going to commit suicide for feeling guilty about a lie they never told. These defense attorneys are ridiculously good liars to pretend they believe in their clients' innocence.
Katrina you are an inspiration to women and mothers everywhere! You took your life back and im sure your girls will be nothing but great with the fine example that you have set for them. Awesome awesome lovely lady!
She's amazing!! Judges need to be held accountable
I love the confidence Katrina had on her face (Good Cop) she had so much strength in her smile when she said she was a Beautiful Black Queen that fought the fight. ❤😊 Such a strong and amazing woman. Inspiration for all of us ladies out here.
Balloon releases... nah just becomes liter. Honoring a loved one would be better served by planting a tree or a large flowering bush(purple lilac b/c purple is domestic abuse awareness color) each year. Plant them in public parks, on college grounds, at high schools etc and a plaque can be placed next to it in memorial of them or plant one in a different families yard. Such a beautiful & lasting symbol of love ♡ Flower gardens are great too and everyone can pitch in with cost, putting it together, and then maintaining it💜
Katrina is such an inspiration!!! What a woman! Someone needs to make a movie of this beautiful woman's life! ❤️ Much love to you Katrina!

The way Katrina's lawyer speaks about her is so beautiful. You can really tell she cares for her. Shame on the judge and the other officers who turned their backs on her.
The guy who kept saying, "I'm a good officer" sounds like the guys that say, "I'm a good guy" and are not good guys.

Well, truth is none of us will ever know. Only God, her and him will ever know what really went down. Not saying he’s guilty or innocent just stating that none of us will ever know for sure, unless he confesses. People are wrong about stuff like this all the time.
Why did they not test the second woman's hands for gunshot residue? That could have made it an open and shut case either way....

I went with an angry angry man, a firefighter. He said no one would believe me of the abuse... because he was a firefighter.
That's how it's done, ladies!! Thank you for sharing this story, something every young woman needs to hear!
Katrina you are such a role model. What you went thru was pure hell and you came out on the other side. Many victims have lost their fight but God had and still has big plans for you. I’m so proud of you. Keep fighting for others because your story gives hope. I myself grew up in a home with a very abusive stepfather. I didn’t care what he did to me I just refused to watch him hurt my mother anymore. I had to be the strong one because she was way more scared of him than I was. We did get out eventually. You are one amazing human being. Don’t ever let anyone tell you any different. Thank you for sharing your story.
The Katrina story was excellent! Sad but very well presented! What a WOMAN!
Katrina I have been in similar situations you are a survivor and your daughters are going to always see you as their hero ♥ stronger than me but such an inspiration
Forgiving was so hard when it came time for me to do the forgiving. Talk was easy. Doing it took time. Several times I thought I had forgiven my ex. I had to work on it. It was like carrying a backpack. One day I realized the weight was gone and I didn't have any anger and hurt. I was so much happier and I had a freedom that had been missing for so long.
Forgiving someone isn't instant but I'm much better after actually forgiving him.
Amen! When people say forgiving others who may have hurt you in the past, it’s for you not them. It’s so true and I used to laugh at that statement. You don’t ever realize it until you actually forgive and let go. Your comment was spot on!

I love the 911 calls where the man is like, “my wife just shot herself,” and the dispatcher is like, “Mmmmhmmmm-“
And you know she’s thinking, “a prosecutor is going to play this call for a jury,”
If your spouse is either injured or dead, (and you didn’t cause it), who in the world is going to start with their assessment on manner of death, instead of trying to find out if she can still be saved??
