@@solvemproblerstudios5889 Disagree with your comment about Morrison's characterization of Superman. Grant Morrison tends to take great influence from the Silver Age-- just look at Bat-Mite or the Batman of Zur En Arrh. It's a general motif in his writing, even more so than deliberately writing batshit crazy stories that are trying to make your brain explode. He's even doing it now with The Green Lantern. So when Morrison was trying to figure out what kind of Superman he wanted to write, he looked towards the Silver Age which is primarily where this characterization of Superman is drawn from. For a large part of the Silver Age, Superman was Superboy. He visited the Legion of Superheroes, raced across the cosmos with unfathomable power, and was generally a kid. This is where Morrison's Superman comes from. Now let's make something clear: Morrison's Superman was *not* Geoff John's Superman The Superman Geoff Johns created in the pages of Justice League does not draw from the Silver Age or even Morrison's. This Superman was moodier, with a quick temper. I consider Johns' work on Justice League to be some of his worst (which isn't to say he's a bad writer he isn't), and his characterization of Superman is very telling in that regard. The Darkseid War in particular was lackluster. I had also just come off of reading a shit ton of ridiculously excellent indie titles when I finally finished his run of JL, so that probably had something to do with it too.
Echo Empire Ok. Fair enough. Just last week I read Morrison’s new 52 Superman and the man of steel, and I just... didn’t get it. I had no Idea what was going on half the time, Clark was either a semi cocky, confident kid at times, reminding me of Peter Parker or something, or a jerk and suddenly he’d be Christopher Reeve every once and a while. He just seemed a bit erratic to me.
“First Lesbian Lantern” Ok I’m no comics expert, I only knew about Hal, John, and Guy, but I’ve seen those big double pages of the whole Green Lantern Corp, and there’s squirrels, squids, a living virus, a person that’s a living volcano, several humanoid aliens, a thing that’s just a ball, and other things. Within the entirety of that crew none of those random life forms had an attraction to the same sex? Statistically there’s gotta be at least one!
@@evanoconnor9242 yup! Also Hal’s writer for a long time has insinuated that Hal is pan and it’s been implied that Hal and John Constantine have slept together before. Wish it’d start being *text* instead of subtext one day.
Kyle was my favorite because he seemed to be the most imaginative with his constructs. Plus his first run was interesting since unlike the others he didn't have the Guardians or any other lanterns to guide him. He had to figure all of the superhero stuff out for himself.
@@BaronSengir1008 The idea was okay but all that stuff about the Guardians erasing all life in the universe as an art project or that they altered probability to cause the appearance of superheroes really killed the story for me.
Yeah I LOVED how creative Kyle got, PLUS his Original Suit was SO COOL compared to the Standard GL uniform which is kind of boring. Not to mention it was VERY interesting to see him think Outside The Box, because he was NEVER trained on "THIS here is the ONLY acceptible way to deal with this", which actually let him surprise Sinestro who was like "WTF?! That is NOT how you're supposed to DEAL with this!!"
Hal: What's your deal? Guy: I'm angry and I'm a jerk all the time, that's what! John: I'm a black man written by white men in an awkward transitional period for comic book writing in the 1970's. But I'll get better soon. Guy: I won't. And that's what's great about me. Lol... gotta love Guy
Two mistakes I'd like to point out: the rings go on the middle finger, NOT the ring finger, and Sinestro is left handed, NOT right handed, so his ring should be on his left hand.
no, not the LGBTQ+ community, you're talking about those people on twitter that call themselves LGBTQ+ when they're really just extremely angry gay people that hate straight people
@@namhaipurevdorj4453 No, he already went back to being just Green. The events of Doomsday Clock were probably the cause but his ring broke onto seven different rings of every color. Last time I saw him he was with the Titans, but that book also ended.
Can we just mention how the rings somehow chose our planet 7 times in a row? Green lantern sectors r huge there are definitely some other aliens better than us But on top of that not only did it happen 7 times in a row but it was the same country 7 times in a row, what are the odds that a ring would arrive on a planet in the exact same spot as 6 others before it (Maybe discount the first one bc he built his)
Six. Alan is only an Honorary Member of the Corps and Sojourner is What-If/In the Future/Totally not Canon. Moreover now there are 2 Lanterns per Sector and the other 4 are part of the Honor Guard, meaning the go wherever and do whatever. Also John is now Corps Leader, fun fact

The first one really only on Earth 2 and the reason for why that happened was because the JSA were not allowed on Prime Earth in the New 52. Meaning that Alan Scotts gay son got erased from existence (oh and surprised he was under utalized as comics tend to do which is really annoying) and well they figured they could off set that by making him gay.
@@xo-1320 That's why I said "now". In fact, he's still the father of Obsidian and Jade (they appear at the end of Doomsday Clock). So, he was probably a gay man that had to pretend to be straight because 40's.
Gods Iove every lantern. Is there anything better than these 7 having to follow orders from a squirrel to stop a cat from destroying a planet, and then a golden retriever shows up and saves the day?
I love these short but informative videos so insanely impressive. As a avid comic reader green lanterns have always been so dope for me because Alan Scott is so different with the othes where as his is more mysticism and what not and Kyle Rayner has to be my favorite he made a mech suit construct and a literal dragon. Usually Hal even though he beat like the embodiment of will or whatever usually just uses like missles, guns, planes, boxing gloves etc lol and when there was that yellow room and that dude wore all yellow and he literally couldnt do anything was hilarious.
I actually like the idea of hal becoming paralax a lot. Like some shit so bad happens to a hero that they just snap and become a bad guy was a pretty new concept. Kinda like how marvel had a captain marvel who had his life cut short by cancer.
Alright, comment time: 1. Haven't read Justice League Odyssey, but Jessica Cruz taking on Darkseid sounds badass. 2. John Stewart's definitely one of my favorites. Justice League for the win! 3. Guardians of the Universe! Idiots or villains? You decide!
JLO is really good...for the first 10 issues, now it's kinda eh. Really slow. Also they killed my girl Starfire in a super dumb way. >: < still ticked.
Except Guy did during his Warrior run by Beau Smith. When Beau gave him the Warrior powers he used it as an opportunity to heal Guy's brain damage. Thus making him a much more stable and likable character. He mended many fences with the DC Heroes during this time frame [even considered Supermann one of his best friends at one point.] He was a great character until that hack Geoff Johns undid everything to bring back the 80s.
See, in my DC headcanon, Hal, John, Jessica, and Allan are all still Green, Guy's still a Red, and Kyle's still the White Lantern, so all these guys are cool in my book, even Guy
They also tried to make a Green Lantern movie but... Deadpool: Yeah, we all know how that turned out >:( But at least John Stewart got a good portrayal in the tv series.
Ricardo Hoàng Agreed, I’ve found that from a writing perspective Jon just clicks more outside of comic in the modern day than Hal who has really only ever worked in throwback settings in terms of it having to be Hal.

Batman: hey,do you need a hug

“First Lesbian Lantern”
Ok I’m no comics expert, I only knew about Hal, John, and Guy, but I’ve seen those big double pages of the whole Green Lantern Corp, and there’s squirrels, squids, a living virus, a person that’s a living volcano, several humanoid aliens, a thing that’s just a ball, and other things.
Within the entirety of that crew none of those random life forms had an attraction to the same sex? Statistically there’s gotta be at least one!
I don’t know if it counts but isn’t alan scott gay?
He means from Earth.
@@evanoconnor9242 yup! Also Hal’s writer for a long time has insinuated that Hal is pan and it’s been implied that Hal and John Constantine have slept together before. Wish it’d start being *text* instead of subtext one day.
@@emryscaster7332 who? Probably won't.
Kyle was my favorite because he seemed to be the most imaginative with his constructs. Plus his first run was interesting since unlike the others he didn't have the Guardians or any other lanterns to guide him. He had to figure all of the superhero stuff out for himself.
Hero's Quest was a great book in my opinion...
@@BaronSengir1008 The idea was okay but all that stuff about the Guardians erasing all life in the universe as an art project or that they altered probability to cause the appearance of superheroes really killed the story for me.
I remember in the comics he manifested unit one in a fight once with his ring
Yeah I LOVED how creative Kyle got, PLUS his Original Suit was SO COOL compared to the Standard GL uniform which is kind of boring.
Not to mention it was VERY interesting to see him think Outside The Box, because he was NEVER trained on "THIS here is the ONLY acceptible way to deal with this", which actually let him surprise Sinestro who was like "WTF?! That is NOT how you're supposed to DEAL with this!!"
Well he was an artist so here's that.
Hal: What's your deal?
Guy: I'm angry and I'm a jerk all the time, that's what!
John: I'm a black man written by white men in an awkward transitional period for comic book writing in the 1970's. But I'll get better soon.

@@motivated2473yeah crazy how many white people seem to lack that ability
Two mistakes I'd like to point out: the rings go on the middle finger, NOT the ring finger, and Sinestro is left handed, NOT right handed, so his ring should be on his left hand.

@@7felipe14 No actually he was straight. His son was gay. The whole New 52 reboot thing erased his son and well... they made him gay instead.

It is literally impossible to give Ganthet a funnier first line to Kyle than he got in the comics. "You will have to do."
