@@Dracobyte I'm an old timey comic reader, and read the series when it first came out. Originally, Jean Grey WAS Phoenix; it was just a name she took for herself, and she was responsible for everything Dark Phoenix did. It's why sacrificing herself to save everyone from her dark side had such emotional resonance., and the X-Men comic got a lot of great character moments not only form her death, but from everyone reacting to it and remembering it. It's what really catapulted that run of X-Men from merely good to classic status. But some fan boy creators like John Byrne whined about her dying despite the fact that it was the only thing that had ever made an otherwise bland character interesting. So he concocted the retcon that Jean Grey was never Phoenix, that it was a cosmic entity that created an imposter Jean Grey to absolve her of wrongdoing. The 'real' Jean Grey was found in a stasis pod, having never actually been the Phoenix. Except that robbed the earlier story of all its emotional and dramatic weight, and nullified all that great character development on the part of everyone grieving for her. It would be like in Return of the Jedi Darth Vader going 'just kidding!' about being Luke's father.

Good summation of the original story. Folks need to remember that Jean was supposed to stay dead, because Jim Shooter insisted that once John Byrne drew in the genocide bit (that Claremont originally DID NOT include), ethically, the character had to die. It was TEN YEARS before Bob Layton devised a way to redeem the Jean Grey character by making the Phoenix force a separate entity. Everything since then has been new writers constantly regurgitating the Dark Phoenix saga in some form to the point that the original story almost seems like an alternate universe story. Claremont originally wanted Jean to lose her powers, and then be tempted to gain them back, but refuse them - a story later repurposed for Storm.
As great that the original story was I would like to see a What if type mini series where the saga ended the way Claremont intended, thus leading the X Men into a whole lot of moral dilemmas whereby they defend Jean from various aliens who would have been out for her blood, in order to avenge the mass murders that she committed as the Dark Phoenix, of whom they would have every moral right to do so, only for the X Men to be like ' Jean is one of us and while we are all sorry about what happened to all of you poor aliens, you aren't going to be allowed to get any kind of justice while we are around, so you all just go home, if you still have one that is, and face the facts that terrible things happen to people all the time even to those who don't deserve it' The aliens could be like 'well your comrade destroyed a planet full of asparagus people, and robbed loads of families of their fathers and husbands, families who are all in mourning for their loved ones protectors and providers plus there were also a lots of cadets and female crew members of that battle ship thus she killed tons of women and children too. We are mad and we want to get even'. The aliens could then be defeated in their attempt to wipe out the entire population of Earth, then the mutant race would be even more hated and feared than ever before thanks to the fact that Earth would become the target of multiple alien attacks, whereby the arguments listed above would be exchanged over and over to all of the various alien armies and hit men sent out to see that justice is done for the universe, only for it to be forever denied to them In fact I feel that this would be an interesting direction for the regular comics to have taken back in the day as I'm sure that Claremont would have had found it to be a source of many a moral dilemma for the characters to engage in, as I feel that it would have given the X Men, and also their various associated teams and solo heroes at that time, a position whereby the reader's would have been sympathetic towards people who could be seen as villains, not anti heroes you understand as they at that time were clearly presented as heroes who played rough and who broadened a lot over their dark pasts, yet it was made very clear that they were the good guys, but rather villains of whom were not only the headliners of their book, but who also did good deeds, such as saving the world for people who hate and fear them from various menaces, but who also in their very act of evil, that is saving the Earth from aliens who only want justice, in fact benefited the human race and likewise all of the wonderful characters the all know and love, by having a world that they can all their own, the price of that being, justice being denied for beings who are just as valid them for justice. I think that this would be a very good idea for a mini series to explore, I know that this idea may have been flogged to death in fan fiction, but as it stands I'm yet to see it in official media from Marvel. P.S. sorry if I rambled on a bit, as it happens I am somewhat tired as in is midnight where I am typing this thus I am very tired in fact I am just going to go to bed now. PPS sorry about the typos

I believe it was Kurt Busiek who actually came up with the Phoenix retcon - making the Phoenix Force a separate entity that just copied Jean's form and memories - he just told his idea to Bob Layton and Layton wrote it into his comic (with credit to Busiek).
Veeery clever, Marvel.... subtly pushing your streaming service by giving people and kids a small synopsis of some your stories. But that was a very family friendly way of describing the Dark Phoenix saga that still did a good job summarizing it. Bravo. Now I want to see what they do with the House of M story line.
Love this! The comic book story of phoenix force/dark phoenix is so complex that it maybe deserving of a movie trilogy of itself, I mean it was extended upon the Phoenix Resurrection story. Just my opinion. But we'll see on June next year if the second dark phoenix movie adaptation is worth it.
And Dark Phoenix will do an even greater work ruining everything... oh, yeah, don't worry, Disney and Marvel Studios will make sure that it never see the light of day.
I heard that after some internal conflict when the making of The Last Stand they lost the director (or writer) and the FOX executive in charge of the movie changed it completely out of spite.
One of my favorite moments in this story is the reverse fastball special. Wolvie knows he can't kill Jean because he already tried. On the moon, the lighter gravity lets him throw Colossus at her. He doesn't kill her, but knocks some sense into her for a moment.
you obviously didnt read the phoenix saga and like all the other fakes only know about the retcon verse. get a job, buy the original comics. facts are facts. the whole "phoenix force" thing didnt exist until AFTER jean was found by the avengers in a cocoon at the bottom of jamaica bay
According to Claremont and the comics, it wasn't originally a cosmic force of fire and life. Instead, it was just the full potential of Jean Grey. It was retconned later down the line from the force of life and death to a force of cosmic annihilation.
Completely agree. Not sure where this new retcon is coming from? In the original comics the Phoenix Force offered Jean her “heart’s desire” in order to help the X-men. It was a separate entity, not the her “full potential.”
Wow. Most adaptations of the Dark Phoenix saga called the group of people trying to brainwash Jean Gray ”the Inner Circle.” I never would have thought that Disney would have it in them to say the actual original name of the group.
I love Kira Buckland as Jean Grey and Lilandra! This is definitely Truly THE Best of the Best Combination of Cartoon and Anime! I can definitely get used to this!
1. you didnt see it so...........DUMB 2. just cause the comic is better doesnt mean its bad. i mean there been better food and cooks doesnt stop you from eating from taco bell so...........
I enjoy the unspoken rule that Scott literally needs Jean if he wants to hold back the optic blasts for just a moment. So yeah, it's kind of hard to get a girlfriend like Jean who's literally perfect.
As someone that never read the comics but LOVED the 90s series, I'm surprised how much the TV adaptation stayed mostly unchanged from the source. It was easily one of the most memorable arcs of the old series so I can see why the original comic gained its fame.
My only bones is Charles helped put those psychic barriers into place as he has with many members. And not one movie storyline mentions that the Phoenix was actually good for a while and served the purpose or protecting the crystal being it’s guardian before she went rogue and starting doing her own thing. We are mad and we want to get even'.
The aliens could then be defeated in their attempt to wipe out the entire population of Earth, then the mutant race would be even more hated and feared than ever before thanks to the fact that Earth would become the target of multiple alien attacks, whereby the arguments listed above would be exchanged over and over to all of the various alien armies and hit men sent out to see that justice is done for the universe, only for it to be forever denied to them
In fact I feel that this would be an interesting direction for the regular comics to have taken back in the day as I'm sure that Claremont would have had found it to be a source of many a moral dilemma for the characters to engage in, as I feel that it would have given the X Men, and also their various associated teams and solo heroes at that time, a position whereby the reader's would have been sympathetic towards people who could be seen as villains, not anti heroes you understand as they at that time were clearly presented as heroes who played rough and who broadened a lot over their dark pasts, yet it was made very clear that they were the good guys, but rather villains of whom were not only the headliners of their book, but who also did good deeds, such as saving the world for people who hate and fear them from various menaces, but who also in their very act of evil, that is saving the Earth from aliens who only want justice, in fact benefited the human race and likewise all of the wonderful characters the all know and love, by having a world that they can all their own, the price of that being, justice being denied for beings who are just as valid them for justice.
Leomon: dies in every anime appearance
Zero (Megaman X series and his own series): dies like... 9 times.
Jean Grey: **Yakkity Sax plays while Jean explodes like fireworks and revives every ten seconds**
Me: *flips table*
@@christopherlockery9629 ... never think it that way...
that story would be so dark and deppresing, it would be like: X-Men against the world (and maybe beyond)
I believe it was Kurt Busiek who actually came up with the Phoenix retcon - making the Phoenix Force a separate entity that just copied Jean's form and memories - he just told his idea to Bob Layton and Layton wrote it into his comic (with credit to Busiek).
2:28 he got like 3 new girlfriends right after that
really beside emma frostwho?
He got married and had a baby boy too.
Also they aren't "death" beams, they are "punch" beams
He got a blondie girlfriend that i forgotten the name.
He got madelyne prior.
He got Emma Frost.
He also dated Colleen Wing.
Oh, yes. You know how I love a good old fashioned loophole XDD.
All saying "anime" when this is a cartoon style animation
DevilMan D Anime is usually meant as Japanese Animation instead of just animation
Is like voltron or avatar animation
tremorock samething
This is a cartoon style 100% not a anime style
It's a "cartoon" style, but it's not that hard to see the inspiration?
The Phoenix Saga is a classic example of old school crazy comics but this episode was fantastically animated
This was way better than I was expecting, I'm gonna go watch more Marvel TL;DR's, keep them coming!
The Dark Phoenix Saga also contains my all time favorite bit of villain trash-talk. "In the name of the love we shared, I will weep over your grave!"
Their design for Jean Grey is cute and at 2:30 I know how Cyclops feels. I can’t stare at a girl without resulting in them bursting into flames.
Yeah I wan't a full series with these
your animation is way too cute. I love how you drew all the Characters and jean was Extra Cute.
Can we take a while to appreciate how awesome is this animation's style, the Humor of it, and the visuals?! Totally love these!!!
And then something something Clones, something something Goblin Queen.
Something about a cocoon, and Demons, and.... yeah.
X-Men.
Jean Grey is waifu material. Everyone looks amazing!
Bingo Bango begone Waifu enthusiast!
I don't know what waifu or tl dr even mean
@Mr. Al WAIFU is simply WIFE for WEEB (People who watch Japan Animation and want to fall in love with Female character)
oof
Bingo Bingo Have you even tried to ask Scott about this?
Jean is freaking adorable as hell.
Clicked despite having read the story cuz Jean was cute in the thumbnail, was not disappointed. Awesome art and animation 👍
This is the best interpretation of the Dark Phoenix Saga and it still misses some important details.
Like?
Thank you both for condensing this story and for doing Jean more justice than marvel themselves does her most the time.
"I CAN'T CONTROL IT, DARK PHEANIX/ X-FACTOR, LLLLLLLLL-MAXIMUM"
1:30 I'm sowwy about the whole planet destroying thing. -Jean on the inside
Ya sorry I slaughtered an entire planet and burnt you guys to a crisp but I'm sowwy yeah
"MY WIFE IS EITHER ALL POWERFUL, EVIL OR DEAD! I CAN'T TAKE IT!" - Cyclops
My favorite comic ever 💛😔
I love you Jean Grey. You’re a great hero.
That must the cutest Jean Grey ever. Kudos!
This is already way more epic than the live-action film.
the artist for this did an amazing job
This animation is awesome... 90's cartoon also did justice... But the last stand ruined everything...
And Dark Phoenix will do an even greater work ruining everything... oh, yeah, don't worry, Disney and Marvel Studios will make sure that it never see the light of day.
I heard that after some internal conflict when the making of The Last Stand they lost the director (or writer) and the FOX executive in charge of the movie changed it completely out of spite.
coladict that’s really depressing :(
This video's animator name is Fatine Aouniya. Her Instagram is @transmissiondream
I misspell her last name. It's Aouiniya.
This makes me want a Dark Phoenix anime right now.
Read the comics. This one's a masterpiece.
One of my favorite moments in this story is the reverse fastball special. Wolvie knows he can't kill Jean because he already tried. On the moon, the lighter gravity lets him throw Colossus at her. He doesn't kill her, but knocks some sense into her for a moment.
Am I the only one who loves this anime-esque art style?
1:08 me and my friends seeing teacher having a mental breakdown after no one knew the anwser to the Simple question
My dad always told me about this saga
Can we just appreciate the artist who drew this wonderful artwork of Jean Grey?
This art-style is really wonderful, *_This is really good art._*
The Phoenix Force is a cosmic force of life and death, not yet full potential of Jean Grey.
you obviously didnt read the phoenix saga and like all the other fakes only know about the retcon verse. get a job, buy the original comics. facts are facts. the whole "phoenix force" thing didnt exist until AFTER jean was found by the avengers in a cocoon at the bottom of jamaica bay
@@serenityq26 loool. U obviously didn't saw my profile name. Have a nice day rudie
According to Claremont and the comics, it wasn't originally a cosmic force of fire and life. Instead, it was just the full potential of Jean Grey. It was retconned later down the line from the force of life and death to a force of cosmic annihilation.
@@phoenixshadow6633 i am aware of it.😄😄
Completely agree. Not sure where this new retcon is coming from? In the original comics the Phoenix Force offered Jean her “heart’s desire” in order to help the X-men. It was a separate entity, not the her “full potential.”
better than the new movie
I can confirm. Just watched it an hour or so ago
Nah, this is more bandwagon - hate the new - than actually true
0:16 Space Adventures... It’s an adventure in Space!
“I understood that reference”
Wow. Most adaptations of the Dark Phoenix saga called the group of people trying to brainwash Jean Gray ”the Inner Circle.” I never would have thought that Disney would have it in them to say the actual original name of the group.
Well technically their both correct, IIRC. The Inner Circle is the elite members of the Hellfire club. The Queens and Kings if you will.
I love Kira Buckland as Jean Grey and Lilandra! This is definitely Truly THE Best of the Best Combination of Cartoon and Anime! I can definitely get used to this!
This animation style might be my favorite so far in the TL; DR series
REALLY CUTE ANIMATION...love it
Better than X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
The Lord's Legion
The movie’s not even out yet, you moron.
1. you didnt see it so...........DUMB 2. just cause the comic is better doesnt mean its bad. i mean there been better food and cooks doesnt stop you from eating from taco bell so...........
How?
It’s not even called X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Just Dark Phoenix.
The Lord's Legion the movie is going to be more comic bookish
This seems like a really good story someone should make a movie about it
If they somehow manage to turn this convoluted story into a good movie I'll be impressed
I enjoy the unspoken rule that Scott literally needs Jean if he wants to hold back the optic blasts for just a moment. So yeah, it's kind of hard to get a girlfriend like Jean who's literally perfect.
1:53 Oh no.. why do i keep replaying this?
Looked up Fatine Aouiniya's work, was not disappointed!
feat of awesomeness her drawing making jean look adorable hahaha
As someone that never read the comics but LOVED the 90s series, I'm surprised how much the TV adaptation stayed mostly unchanged from the source. It was easily one of the most memorable arcs of the old series so I can see why the original comic gained its fame.
Só mudou que quem lutou com Gladiador (Gladiator) na série 90 foi Vampira (Rogue), ao invés de Colossus.
Having recently binged the 90’s X-Men cartoon, the show was surprisingly comic accurate.
what a nice animation.
Ahww sooo cute on 1:29! I want a wallpaper for PC! :D awesome idea @MarvelEntertainment - Great video!
You could screen shot it.
This is way better than it should be
I wont mind an X-Men show with this style..... actually i wont mind a NEW X-MEN SHOW AT ALL!!!
...I want X-men evolution season 6...
@@HeraldofMisfortune That too, i'll say its the most Underrated Marvel Show
@@HeraldofMisfortune Season 5 Xmen evolution was going to be Jean turning into Phoenix.
0:48 I love how when the xmen were locked up colossus and nightcrawler could have escaped.
You can see it im their faces.
I love this. I need more of these.
My only bones is Charles helped put those psychic barriers into place as he has with many members. And not one movie storyline mentions that the Phoenix was actually good for a while and served the purpose or protecting the crystal being it’s guardian before she went rogue and starting doing her own thing. I would love to see this original twist take place in the MCU 🤞🏽
