Y'all should do a vid on when and where each type of soft plastic usually dominates over the other soft plastics. Like when do you like a tube over a creature bait. And you could throw a jig in there also because its fished in a similar fashion most of the time.
This video comes at the perfect time for me. The ned rig is one of my most used baits, and I finally decided to go buy a dedicated setup for it. I’ve been looking at rods for the past few days, but have been having a hard time settling on one.
I had my reaper hoodie on all day yesterday and it was cold and windy on the lake. That AFTCO hoodie is awesome!!!! Can’t wait to get one with the TB Logo!!!!!!
I set up a PFUEGER PRES XT reel for $79 and a FENWICK HMX 7’6” rod for $50.... this is my perfect set up after 3 years of trying different setups. Absolutely go for a longer, lighter rod for fighting better fish, as it doesn’t round out the small hook hole bigger and then you lose the fish. I can cast a mile with 10lb braid and a 6lb flouro leader, and can feel subtle tics and inhales with it.... I catch more fish than my power techniques, but the fish are smaller. In one local private lake last year, where I typically catch and release up to a dozen or more 5-6 lbers each year, last year my 3 biggest were only 4 lbs.....But in smallmouth waters, Ned’s can’t be beat!
great video ! Any time I want to research a new technique, I type it in the search bar and scroll til I find a TB video first. Always longer and way more detailed than most other channels. I think it helps that I like to fish a lot of the same techniques that you guys fish also. I love finesse fishing.
A Stella on a Conquest... Come on Tim, are you trying to see if the fish has any cavities before setting the hook? Lol That combo is worth more than my car.
I have been trying out the new ned rage bug by strike king . Looks great under water . Seems like everyone is coming out with a ned bait . I do love the ticklers and robo bait as well. The one I have the most success with her in upstate NY is the misslebaits .Some reason that little beaver tail seems to work well for me . Also if your someone who likes to swim the ned that bait is killer too . Green pumpkin flash is the go to color for myself . Love to see the finess vids as its something I use a bunch of here up north . Love the vids guys keep up the hard work .
IDEA. A making of video for your crank bait. How did you do it? What steps? Tank shots, sounds selections, color selection. I want to see it all. Most dont know what all you went through but I know we want to see it.
Took my very first 1st place win yesterday in a local club tournament. With a ned rig. Super Tough lake. Most guys only got 3-5 fish all day, I was closer to 30. Gotta fish them slow and set the hook if you feel ANYTHING...the bites are subtle.
I would love an in depth review on that Shimano Intenza I keep seeing recommended here. How does it compare to the Dobyns Fury series or SLX? I do like that the light spinning rod is available in that 7'6" length.

But ive been buying baits having hard time finding right jigs think I found deal 5 dollars for 25 hooks hope not 5 each lol. But 25 for smaller 6.25 for the bigger there some with chips in the company cant sell as perfect so im hoping to buy 3 sets each unless he only has the 25 each than just the 2 but 50 give 1 each size to kids that's 25 kids get free set ups. Im making bags 24 baits 4 sets 6 of a color the 2 hooks that keep them busy hope for month or 2. On baits atlest. But ill find more when I make some more money or next months disibilty check. So I had a question about the " trd ticklers". I got a pack and they seemed to be loaded with salt and don't stand even a 1/16 oz head up, is this typical? I got some packs of the original craws and tubes from Zman and they didn't have as much if any salt and floated straight up easily.
Obviously it depends on the fish. That being said the time of year effects the personality of the fish as a population. If fish are looking for beds or on beds then yes. I go as far as turning electronics off and complete silence if I’m sight fishing. But if your fishing a row of beds at a distance and crawling your bait through them then you don’t have to go to such extreme lengths. I don’t claim to be an expert but that’s just what I’ve found/noticed. Would love corrections if anyone has them.

2 questions: 1) what is the dirtiest water you will typically throw a ned rig in? 2) I fished the roboworm side by side with the TRD the last year on fisheries all over the country. To this day I still have never caught a thing on the roboworm while I've caught hundreds on the TRD. Thoughts on what may be the cause of this?
@@bobbarnhill8557 that's my take as well, but obviously Matt and Tim have lots of success with the roboworm. So I was curious if there was a situation where the roboworm is better or if they fish the roboworm differently. Floating definitely makes a difference in my opinion as well.
I have used the Ned Rig in some pretty dirty water and had some success, but it seems to work much better in cleaner water (at least for me). I have used both the Z-man TRD and Roboworm Ned worm. The Z-man really catches WAAAAY more fish than the Robo (again that's been my experience anyway). However... I have had really god success using the Roboworm Ned worm on a drop shot. In fact for me... the hook up ratio is much better using the Robo Ned Worm, vs Roboworm's standard 6" worm. Also... despite Z-man recommending using the lightest jig head you can get away with to fish the Ned Rig, I prefer to use their heavier "Power SchroomZ" head (1/5 or 1/6 oz). For me it allows me to "feel" whats going on with the bait, makes it easier to detect bites, and my hook up ratio is a lot higher. The setup I use for nearly all my Ned Rig fishing is a Powell Inferno 6101 spinning rod, with a Shimano Sahara 1000 reel. I use 15lb Power Pro HiVis yellow braid tied (with either a 7 turn Surgeon's knot or a Double Uni knot) to an 8lb P-line Fluorocarbon leader. Three of my favorite TRD colors are PB&J, The Deal and Molting Craw. You will get a lot of snags with the Ned Rig, it's just gonna happen with an exposed hook. But... you will catch a lot of fish with it as well. One day my son and I caught 139 fish all on the Z-man Ned Rig. He caught 75 fish (spotted bass) on the exact same jig head and TRD. That's how durable that Z-man Elaztech is.
I don't know if Tim or Matt will read this but I bought a small fortune in the swagger Tungsten jig heads on their recommendation and I am VERY unimpressed with them. They are very fragile. If you smack a dock too hard or need to adjust the keeper, it tends to bust open the tungsten heads as they are not poured but rather pieced together around the hook. Have you guys experienced this at all with those heads?
Thats terrible, sorry to hear that! I wonder if a bad batch came through? I'd definitely reach out to Swagger and let them know ASAP because we've never had a single one do that and we fish them quite a bit. -Matt
@@tacticalbassin Thanks for the follow up! You guys rock! I've had it happen with 1/10 and 1/8 in black, green pump, chartreuse, and the vader non painted ones so I can't give the "bad batch" option much faith. In open water and minimal structure, I have had no issues. However trying to skip them under docks and around dock pilings or bang into a pontoon float one or two times and they bust open. I will reach out to them and see what they say. Thanks again!
Trd hogZ is the best ned bait, black n blue speck. It looks like a bug or craw. I have never not caught fish on it. I dont use a traditional ned head. Some companies make 1/8th ball heads with size one offset ewg hooks. You can rig the ned COMPLETELY weedless like a texas rig. None of those crappy wires or anything, it works 1000x better on offset hook heads.

That's how durable that Z-man Elaztech is.
What size heads do you recommend in the Swagger Tungsten Flanders Head or the z -man heads?
Matt had mentioned last year that he typically fishes either the lightest head or heaviest head. Hope that helps.
Any experience with the Zoom Beatdown?
Add the Zman micro jig (pond scum) into the mix. It will catch fish when the standard TRD falls flat.
I noticed that the easy winter jig tricks video was not on the jig fishing tips and techniques playlist if you guys haven’t realized

Love me some deadly nedly
Would you ever fish this with Monofilament, or is that just too visible?
Usually once I catch a couple purdy small mouths on fake worm I know there’s gotta be a fatboy lurking around good tip brother
Those mega trash rods break easy too definitely not worth the money, but the reel certainly is!
I’ve noticed in all of your videos I’ve seen, there’s never a mention of googan baits. Do you feel they aren’t any good? Serious question for my own info because I’ve been giving them a try lately. Love the videos by the way.
@@letsfish1046 totally false....
Zach Shott guess he deleted his post. Lol 🤷🏼♂️
@@ferrante250 yes he did
What was his reply?
Have you guys found a Ned weighted T-rig that you like so you can be weedless?
