    Sensei: I'm no longer a good exponent after a lot of injuries, but one thing you're missing that'll help a lot is to get off your heels. Savateurs never sink their weight except on purpose, but try to be as floaty and light as possible in order to roll/fade with impacts.

  • @johnsmith_1942
    @johnsmith_1942 5 месяцев назад +2

    In savate the non-kicking foot stays planted. There's no hopping and skippin during kick.
    It's pracrical as people wear shoes in normal life and the ground can be slippery. It's also harder to sweep planted foot.
    That's probably why bruce lee liked some of savate kicks.

    Why would sailors and streetfighters fence with their feet? Because Savate was first a sailor's martial art and then the chosen fighting method of Paris' streetfighters.

    • @ChucksSEADnDEAD
      @ChucksSEADnDEAD 7 месяцев назад +2

      Hitting with a closed fist was a serious assault charge, but kicks and open hand slaps were a minor offense. So street fighters adapted to the legal "loophole".

    • @lordMartiya
      @lordMartiya 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@ChucksSEADnDEAD I think there's a misunderstanding: the "fence with their feet" thing assumes the first Savateurs were fencers and thus nobles, when they actually were sailors who had better things to do than fancy swordplay.
      As for dodging the assault charge... As far I know, that was a side effect: the reason Marseille's sailors learned how to kick from Kalari practitioners was that the Mediterranean stretch of their voyage was infested by Barbery pirates and they wanted something to supplement their cutlasses in combat. Dodging the assault charge in street fights was simply a lucky coincidence.

    Thanks Master Seth, I am subbed to you, WB (+ sweet T), J Enkamp, Icey Mike, you all make great martial arts vids. My favorites are always the crossovers. Random YT browsers have no clue what they are missing out on.

    (This is Naruto joke)
    (There are other's who make anime references to people who are open about not enjoying anime, but this one is mine.)

    Osu! Seth You are a big and strong guy and you have experience with karete techniques. I suggest that you try to practice Kyokushin Karate for a few months or even a year. I think it can change the dynamic of your sparring. And then the test. I assure you that you will be pleased with the results. Good luck 🙂

    I like the sumo idea. I'd be curious as to how well a pro fighter could do if they're not actually trained in sumo.
