If someone could give me a hand that would be great. I decided to do a Stylized Barrel instead of the crate to practice. I'm at about 23:26 when we bake the high poly obj we created in Zbrush. After he bakes his, his crate appears similar to how it looked in Zbrush. When I bake mine, nothing changes. What could be the issue? Did I miss a setting somewhere? Edit: When I bake it, my normal map appears to be completely black.
Hey man thanks for the tutorials. How come you are selling the brushes when you say you found them? You also ask for them not to be resold. Did you create these alphas or just repackage them?
Quick questions regarding the drawing tablets. Do you think you could have the same result as in this video without using a tablet? How much would you recommend a tablet for this kind of work? I was doing all of this in blender, but not having a tablet really shows when you want one line to be deeper in some specific part and thinner in other Thanks in advance!
For sculpting I think a tablet is necessary for the reason you posted, pressure sensitivity really helps with adding details. It's not impossible by using the mouse, but not ideal.
when I start uving the outer borders, the sections that weren't extruded, are red, How do I fix this? Also when I open the UV editor it doesnt look like a net like shown in the video
What you clicked on 7:40 to open window? Thanks for an answer. I have only mouse, can u give any advice what's the best way to do it with mouse? Thanks
Either right click or hold space bar for that window to show. It will be really hard to use these brushes with a mouse so I highly recommend getting a drawing tablet.
I don't think I changed any settings for it, I'm pretty sure it's the default. Only thing I can think of is to have the projections set to "best plane"
Okay cool can you do some more stylized tutorials where you show step by step? It's hard to slow down you speed models to learm how to do certain things.
InsertCylinder brush option not available in my Zbrush, how can I find it? Is there a link online where I can get it? I know it's a simple cylinder shape but I have no clue how to create custom brushes in zbrush. Thanks!
Hey I am trying to follow this tutorial but when I go to create automatic UVs it splits my UV map into each face and it doesn't group them together automatically to each side of the cube like yours does, how do I fix this? Thank you for the tutorial!
Interesting, that's odd. I am using the default settings for that. Can you go to modify-freeze transformations and also to edit-delete all by type- history. That might help.
It always depends on the shape, for organic things I apply a planar map on the whole thing and then use cut uvs on the edges where I want to split it. After that I use unfold to fix distortion.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I learn a lot! Can you tell me where to find the soften/harden edge option in Blender 2.8? If not, is there an alternative? What would happen if we skip this step?
@@3dextrude I got that result because the inner quads were 90º straight and i didint do a inner scale for them. And maya organizes the textures based on that. Btw, awesome feedback, thank you :)
I'm curious to know, how did you get the model to look so smooth when you imported it in Zbrush? When I've imported my model I see all of the polygonal faces.
I'm confused. Jayanam in his tutorial said that I need to export high-poly as .fbx you said export _hp as .obj. Also, he exports both low-poly and high-poly as .fbx. So Jayanam method works for me yours does not. What's the difference?
yeah I usually also export as .fbx , but in this case .obj worked fine because it is such a simple prop, but when you have a prop that's made of many pieces it's better to export as .fbx to keep those pieces separate.
I create polygroups first by going to the polygroups menu and choosing autogroups. After that you can isolate different parts of your model by Ctrl + Alt clicking on a piece or it might be Ctrl + Shift click( can't remember from the top of my head)
Just like some other people got problems with automatic uvs. Tried changing to best plane and bringing down planes to 3. But the result is still spread. Any other options I am missing ?
You can do modeling , animation, and rendering in Maya. Can't really do sculpting there; you can texture things with shaders, but it's more technical and complicated than just texturing in a different program.
You are my hero. It 's amazing tutorial. Thank you for your kindness. By the way I have a question. I bought your substance material file by Gumroad but I can't find 'TF_Bone'material(26:01). Where can I get TF-Bone material ?
Hey 3DEx really nice tutorial, I was trying this out but it seems my uvs are not coming the same as yours, I have been following each steps you have taken but mine looks each part separated. any suggestions please? TIA
I did this and had a lot of fun. However, I never used any of the other software beside maya...once I'm done with Substance Painter...how do I export my stuff back in maya?
Oh yeah, I thought as much, but I'm stuck in the exporting process. There are tons of options in SP. Is it ok if I export with default settings? Thanks :D
@@3dextrude Hey 3dEx ! So I tried to apply normal maps to my crate in Substance while my file was a FBX like you mentioned in your tutorial and it just didnt work... So I changed it to an OBJ like the Zbrush file and it worked out ! Makes sense ? Im just curious... I wish you a happy new year !
@@JMBkiller123 That's odd, sometimes if the high poly model is too high poly it won't work so you may need to decimate the model and then export as fbx. The problem with using an obj is that the model is merged into one( if the model was made of multiple parts). In this case it's not an issue, but for other projects it may be so that's something to keep in mind.
Hey, i have a huge problem zbrush exports an empty obj, the file size is 0kb and when I import it into substance painter it says its empty. anyone got a solution?
Thank you for replying! I ended up fiddling around the exporting stuff and it worked, however, for some reason, my model had around 50 MILLION active points and it was too heavy to bake in substance painter and too heavy to try and lower it. btw my model was only a small wooden shelve x'D !
i figured it out for anyone who needs help! the problem started from the model itself make sure the model is made up of quads. otherwise, zbrush will give you an error message regarding non-standard polygons. which will make your model really high poly thats why i reached 50 Mil and nothing went well.
You can also copy the files to this location on your pc : C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic\ZBrush 4R7\ZBrushes You can create a new folder in there and place the brushes there, restart zbrush and you should be able to navigate to those brushes in the content browser.
Good video, but not very good tutorial. When I'm try to complete first step in Zbrush (from 5:17) I get a ball, a rounded crate but not what you show. and anything I have tried to do - I can not achieve a similar result!!!
i see no big sense in explaining what do you do in SP because there's no material you've used (it's absent at gumroad, your site doesn't working) :-(((
Kiana Writer I mean you don’t need zbrush to make it stylised, it’s just easier to add detail and get the effect on the normals on zbrush, if you check out his video where he creates a stylised bed he doesn’t use zbrush and he only uses maya to get the style.
Best tutorial ever! Simple and straight to the point! Thank you so much
This tutoriaI is just what I need! Amaizing work!
Great to hear!
This is it!!, nothing I need to find other tutorial!! thank you much!! saved my sunday for searching!!
@2:03 When I clicked Automatic in UV. They're split into many pieces ,not just 6 planes like you did.
Great video! Learning a lot on this channel
I suggest you guys retopo first before import to subtance.

I had the same problem and I solved it by giving them different materials in the software where modeled them. I used Blender 2.91.
Do a great job, you make things very easy, I would like to buy some tutorial, but as a student I will have to wait, I thank you very much, keep it up.

This was an insanely useful tutorial.
Great! Thank you!

When I import my high poly from zbrush and bake it, the crate stays the same, I don't get the texture on it, it stays soft edged
did you solve it?
At the 2:00 mark what were your settings for Automatic UV to get your UVs like that? Because the default settings do not work the same way as yours.
