    Thanks so much for the info. I just had an MRI and my pain specialist said I have multiple cysts with one large one pushing on the nerve. I’m going to have it drained and injection in the facet joint. I’m 63 and everything you explained helped in understanding this

    Thanks for this video! I was in a lot of pain two years ago. I had an MRI scan and it showed a disc bulge and a synovial cyst. The report said my pain was caused by the disc. I tried different treatments and nothing helped. I then decided to try IDD therapy and it worked wonders for me! I had a scan done after the treatment and it showed that the disc was still bulging a but the cyst was gone. I am glad I avoided surgery and can live a pain-free life again! I am 30 though so it shows you it can happen to people younger than 60. I just wasn't sure what that cyst exactly was but this video explained it really well. Thanks a million!

    Thank you Dr. Mork, I had an MRI done and it shows that I do have synovial cysts - would this a symptom of my Foot Drop ? Originally the drop foot occurred from a broken spiral leg injury on the fibula near the knee. But an EMG ruled out nerve damage in the leg. I do not know how this could have resulted in the spine now. Any suggestions you might have would be helpful. Thank you for your informative video.

      Mizz Jojo How are you getting it removed so quickly???? Mine has been months and all they have done is 1 injection then another where they forced fluid around it to try to pop it!!!! My surgeon passed me off to a Pain Dr who did those two procedures. Waste of time and money. I will need a fusion if they do surgery because of the location of mine. Im 43. Leesa Brunner oh gosh sorry to hear you're still dealing with excruciating pain! It's been a month since I got the cyst taken out and I feel great again! I was in excruciating pain for a month and that was too long. My MRI showed I had a cyst so I had the option to remove it or get injection. Since the pain was debilitating I asked to have it removed. The orthopedic surgeon I was suppose to go to couldn't see me for weeks and so I went to see this awesome neurosurgeon instead by googling/researching. I didn't want to wait & be in that much pain anymore. Luckily the neurosurgeon took me in right away. Thank goodness! Prayers to you and hope you find relief soon!

    • @leesabrunner2694
      @leesabrunner2694 7 лет назад +1

      My Doctors wont do surgery until we go through all these steps. I have no options. Apparently my insurance...UPMC...and my Doctors have the say. I have no choices in my care. Did you need a spinal fusion? The neurosurgeon said Ill need a fusion.

    • @trixiegrl808
      @trixiegrl808 7 лет назад +2

      Leesa Brunner auwww junkie insurance. Synovial cyst can't be popped & it won't move. Also my dr said in order to get to that cyst, he has to remove a bone fragment to get to the cyst so can't just use a needle to pop it either. It has to be surgically removed so that doesn't make sense that you need to do all that before surgery. Luckily for now I don't need the fusion. Crossing fingers that I don't ever need it. Dr said majority of times that cyst won't come back & some surgeons think it will so they fuse also. Don't get me wrong there are some people that will need fusion because of how severe it is. My surgeon said he does approx 10 patients a year for cyst removal and he's been doing this 20+ yrs. Out of all of those, only 1 patient had a regrowth of cyst. Mine is at moderate to severe stenosis so dr wants to preserve it as much as possible. It really depends on the dr. Some will want to do both (cyst removal & fuse) & others just remove cyst. I felt relief immediately after surgery. Hallelujah! Sending you prayers & healing energy.

This video is perfect for her use. I have to wonder though since I see so many other cyst type treatment videos that you have done if you do any work on Tarlov Cysts as well. I have had 3 knee replacements, broken my scapula twice, had 3 broken ribs, and broke my femur badly in a fall once as well, needing a gamma nail & internal screws to fix it...but the pain from this Synovial Cyst is NEXT LEVEL at times!! I can't do anything apart from sitting, and even that gets uncomfortable after a while. I am going through the pain killers as if they were lollies!! I would be interested to hear more about what you have been through please.

I'm on my butt most of the work day - between my commute and desk job - but I'm a weekend warrior with a list of chores and projects that keep me active during my time off. so I'm wondering how long after the MIS can I return to getting my life back? minus the pain, of course.

    My friend had synovial cyst in lumbar spine that was the worst pain for 90 days that no amount of opoids would help. After not moving in bed for 4 days solid and not eating for that long and urinating only in a bucket, the synovial cyst ruptured and pain disappeared, but before a year she couldn't walk one day so was in hospital for a few weeks on hydromorphine.
    After that she developed about 20 more cysts in her body. She already had some internal cysts as she was was prone to cysts and ganglions. Then she woke up with numb burning face on left side. Multiple new cysts were on back of head by hair line too but some were on stomach and butt and near pelvic bone.
    Doctors thought it was metastatic cancer from breast cancer several years ago because she also had pituitary macroadenoma, tested positive for Lyme disease and had 3 thyroid nodules. Didn't want biopsies. She is a senior who recently got crushed thoracic spine a couple of times as well as a few ribs a a couple of times within a 3 month period and then also got slipped disk in thoracic area. Doesn't know if face problem was caused by stroke or spine because no MRI available for several months.
    Has had regularly falling red and white platelets for last few years but iron level is ok (calcium level very high) even though she is pale as a ghost. Blood tests suggested no parathyroid problems.
    Now her spinal cyst is back again like a large boulder and she is developing more sciatica again and pain in inner upper thigh and vein on back of leg near knee. Has lot of pain and difficulty walking. Neurosurgeon says very high risk of death for removal of synovial cysts so not keen on operating. She lost over 100 pounds of muscle and fat in hospital 3 weeks when spinal nerve got pinched so is a little thin.
    Have you ever heard of a lumbar synovial cyst exploding twice? Also, have you heard of it creating multiple other cysts throughout the body after it bursts? Fears these cysts may be caused by spirochettes from the Lyme so there may be no options because cortisone can be deadly. Also fears second rupture will kill her. Also had ruptured hemorrhoid so seems to be dissolving or eaten from inside like the starfish on the coast of Vancouver and some ocean planktons in other parts of the world!

    Doc,
    I have buttock pain, tailbone pain, and pain shooting down both legs in the front side, and outside of my legs. I had my first back surgery (Laminectomy/Discectomy) at 28. Just had an MRI. L5-S1 paracentral protrusion with severe degenerative disc disease. I have a small perineural cyst along the exiting right L5 nerve route and another small perineural cyst at the S1-S2 level. I also have a disc bulge at the L4 level as well. I am retired military veteran so luckily all my medical procedures are covered 100%. I have surgery (ALIF with cyst removal) scheduled on June 2nd, 2015. In order to access the cysts does the dura have to be removed and the arachnoid opened? I just watched videos and I really hope my CSF is not messed with. My nerves are in hyperactive mode right now because of watching those videos. Any advice doc?

Next week theyre going to do a ct guided aspiration followed by an epidural injection of steroids. Then when i get my bmi less than 40, they will cut it out and do a fusion. Will the aspiration be problematic due to the fluid being viscous?

    What happens if it ruptures by itself leaving a red area like a rash covering an area a little less than a tennis ball.

      If it ruptures, the pain will likely be gone.

    Hi Dr. my diag. is L4 L5 cyst causing slight sensation for 5 months straight . went in for a surgical evaluation after trying cortisone shots 3 times with a fluoroscopy . had the cysts drained during procedure , not sure if DR. was able to completely drain it though . tingling in leg to foot is not causing major pain but it is irritating to feel the shocks after getting up from sitting or up from bed . it does subside. but anyway the surgeon recommended a cleanup in the L4 , L5 removing the cysts and then installing a titanium clip called Coflex by Paradigm company. it will prevent cyst from recurring and line up L4 and L5 . Would you do this ? hopefully if I do it , it will be permanent ..thx

      Dr. Tony Mork, MD thanks for your quick reply. I will be having a cyst removed on Christmas Day this year in fact. What is the average length of hospital stays as well as what am I able to do after the surgery?. Last question I am highly allergic to FANANYL which I think is used during surgery these days, any alternative suggestions?

    Just found out today that i have one, the doctor said it's large. I have had extreme pain, which has gotten better in time, and numbness in my leg. The doctor said that I can get injections as a next step, but I am hesitant as long as I can function,

    You said these synovial cysts are rare? I beg to differ, I had surgery 2 years ago to remove a 5.8mm synovial cyst located
    in the L4 region, the cyst was removed and the pain stopped (the worse pain I ever had) I now have another, a 6mm left facet cyst at L3/L4 encroaching/impinging upon the central canal. The funny thing is I don't have nothing near the pain as the first
    it's a 1 compared to the other that was a full 10. I don't get it.

    Dr. Mork what is your experience with the success of epidural shots of steroids with the presence of a cyst at L4/L5? The pain has been present for 3 months and has become progressively more painful to the point hydrocodone/acetaminophen no longer blocks the pain, and I can barely walk or sit without great difficulty.

    Dr Mark, I haven't had a dignosis yet However I know positively that I definitely have a Synovial Cyst L4 L5. It hasn't gotten much larger since the summer of 2017. Mine is approximately the size of a 2 year olds fist. No joke! It has been slowly moving to the left and also further up my low spine? I'll be getting health insurance towards the end of May 2018. I'm very in tuned in my body. I'm becoming disabled now. I just turned 58 in feb 2018. I also have Spondylolisthesis and when I was diagnosed with that the specialist told me to advise my family about it. I'm very concerned. Now lately I've been getting severe pain in the areas of where this cyst is. I've been having a Catch like a vise grip. I haven't been able to sit upright for the last year. I have to lay at a 90 degree angle. Thanks so much for your Videos! Will you Reply to let me know what you think. Thank you very much.

    I had my cyst removed 10years ago, its back i can't walk for more than 5 minutes. The pain is from my lower back down to my toes. My ankle is so painful it feels like its broken. My toenails hurt and growing in to a odd shape. Im in severe pain 80% of the day. I don't sleep longer than 4hrs a night. Over the counter medicine does not help I have negative reaction to steroids. My question is: can this be dangerous?. My doctor's appointment is in two weeks. I'm wondering if I should go to the emergency room before my doctor's appointment.
    Current time: 2:10 am i should be sleeping.

    Just had this survey Feb 1 2023 I was in pain for months since August I had two back injection and it didn't help at all yes it moves some days I would be ok but not fine and others I'm in really bad pain numbness weakness on my left leg thigh also . Survey went well I'm in recovery going for physical therapy this week . After 6 weeks no pain in my leg so far you would have to take it easy for awhile when I feel like I'm doing to much I just sit down or lay down. I'm scheduled to return back to work after my two months home . I have a desk job so I will take it easy .
