I have the ‘16 version of this with the DSG. I have owned many cars in my life but NONE before “Gunther CC” has ever made me stop and look back at it in the parking lot/garage/driveway the way this one does. Its comfortable as hell, has the new head unit that does feature traffic on the gps(with Sirius/ XM subscription)and just makes me want to drive it everywhere.Could it use a bit more power? Yes, and I will chip/modify it once the warranty ends at 60k, but until then I am quite happy with it. In a way I am glad VW did not promote this vehicle like the way they did with the Passat and Jettas. I owned a 99 V6 Passat before this CC( and a ‘15 Jetta) and I cried when they turned that beauty of a car into a CamryAccord. Now the CC is discontinued after the ‘17 model year to be replaced by the Arteon- let’s see if VW can find its “roots” again and give the Arteon the performance of the engine it deserves to match the beauty of the design.
Put a down pipe upgrade the transmission to sync with the computer put a stage 3 clutch pack upgrade injector and carbon fiber intake now you got something special like me
here in Europe. 2 liter engine with 200 hp is a really big engine here people are happy with something between 1> 1.8 liter and 80>150 hp on average ^^
Great review! I had a 2013 VWCC and traded it for a 2018 GMC Canyon in October 2018. The "CC" is a blast to drive! Its a very comfortable car for both driver and passenger. Fuel economy averages around 24-26mpg. Ride quality is pretty good, but cabin can be a bit noisy, especially under aggressive acceleration. Reliability is the deal breaker. I've had issues with the electronics. Fuel flow sensor and one other sensor went bad. Finally, I had a leaky water pump and an oil leak. I traded the car with 110, 000 miles. Its a beautiful looking car, but as the miles pile up, I can see this being a money pit. Buy it used, with low miles and get an extended warrantry, keep for a few years and get out quick.....
I agree with his conclusion on the car. I bought a CC not for its specs not because it is common on the road. However, it looks good the drive is very nice. (I could drive this car all day) and it has the functions I need inside the car. It is not tech-heavy but very nice looking in my opinion.
As much as I'm a fan of Volkswagen's as a whole I could never bring myself to buy one. Maybe one day when they step up their technology bundling and maintenance issues.
Despite some of it's short comings, I really like this car. It's unique styling and sporty driving and tied down, reasonably comfortable ride, really works for me. This Volkswagen has gotten more expensive over the years, but has seasonal deals cut that expense to a more reasonable cost. Overall, not a bad car that one can live with as a daily driver.
I have owned a lot of VW's over the years , but I do have to say that lately they've gone down the crapper with cheap materials and lack of options. I still like the Toureg but damn expensive.
I think the CC is really more comparable with a Toyota Avalon and not infiniti or Acura. its like a luxury car that is just not luxurious enough to get into the brands luxury brand (Audi) but better than the brands Cheapest cars. for those interested Cooley forgot to mention the V6 engine makes 295hp 260 torque
Brian, I just love your honest opinion on car reviews. On this episode, you made me laugh at volume nob... lol Thanks for your review on cars! Keep it up!
The CC doesn't sell much in the U.S. because it has poor reliability, according to Consumer Reports. In fact, the CC and the Beetle are the least reliable models in VW lineup. In the used market, you can get them cheap with low miles anywhere between $15,000 and $26,000.
I guess that adding the extra safety features that cooley talked about, will raise the price significantly and thats what VW dont want to, strategically speaking, as they want to keep the price up to the consumer level!
Just purchased a used 2013 CC and I was very surprised with the active headlights which turn with the steering wheel. Also the frame-less windows and seat design are very nice. I have not driven the competitors but feel that the CC gives you a refined look and feel not found on the domestic or Asian imports of comparable price range.
***** In America they are no that common and the reason for this is that there is a lot of competition in America. In America you could buy a Lexus for about the same price and it would be of a higher standard as well.
In the 2016 Passat CC vr6 4motion is the Dyanudio system the 10 speaker system with the 4 subwoofers (1 in each door) and the 3 way up front and 2 way in the rear still the setup? Or is there another Setup by Dynaudio?
They should offer the 6 cyl engine in the R line trim for maybe $2500-3000 more and pair it to a 6 speed manual only; no automatic. It would be a nice car at under $40K with that combo. But really, under $30K buys a used but under warranty Infinity M56 that has a 420 horse V8 and has more tech/comfort/power than most cars under $70K new.
Many luxury features are available in Europe and in the rest of the world (adaptive suspension, massaged seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, intelligent headlights, etc) but as always, VW kinda dumbs down its cars for the American market. And the Touareg is the top dog at VW in the US FYI
the CC has all the driver assistance and they are active, i donno why he said it does not have driver assistance. it hase lane departure warning with active steering correction, blind spot, adaptive cruise control and park assist with auto parking. the highest trim has a v6 that has 300+ hp and all wheel drive. i don't know why they don't review the highest trim with the full options any more :(
Looking at a 16 R-Line 2.0t that's clean with 54k miles for $10k from a private seller. These cars seem like a steal for their price now. I might even downgrade my current Stinger to save the payments.
Bryan Neill A Ford Fusion is no where near as nice as this CC. Nor would it be anywhere near as reliable. Fords may look that little swankier with the interior. I am not bad mouthing Ford some of their new models look fantastic.
bighands69 I see what your're saying, but I just think that I would rather be seen in the Fusion, the aesthetics are just top notch for its price class imo. I'd have to test drive them both for sure, and if the disparity in the comfort of driving was more for the CC, I'd choose it over the Fusion (seeing as though they have similar MPG on similar engine configurations)
The 2017 CC R-Line Executive still doesn't offer much, even though it's around 40k+ no pano roof smh. Even Kia offers pano roof Birdseye view and their cars are around 35k for top of the line.
I'm not so sure that Volkswagen is trying to compete with Acura and Infiniti here. There is still some cheapness in this car (as was pointed out in the video, hard plastics on the dash) that I would associate with lower end cars. I think this car is more competing with full size sedan offerings from Chevy, Ford and Toyota. That's not to say the CC isn't a nice car, because it is. But it's just not a luxury car.
Its funny how I can get in a 2002 Jetta, and it hasn't changed much from the 2015. What an embarrassment for volkswagen, they're falling behind in the times, and they would have been left there with shut doors if it wasn't for them being an automotive monopoly! I also find it appalling that a $400,000 Lamborghini has the same technology as their $20,000 cars. I agree, you don't buy a Lamborghini for its tech, but really.... You couldn't have produced something more premium for such a high end car?
Relax, Corey Brown. The CC is based of the PQ46 Passat which launched in Europe in 2005, meaning it was designed in over ten years ago. It's ancient by today's standards. The fact that it still a respectable car goes a long way towards validating how good the basic architecture is. Say that with a straight face of a 2004 Lexus, for instance. The good news is a new one will drop in Europe next year. Bad news? I'd rather pay the same price for a 2015 ,C-Klasse. That's a problem for VW
You've really didn't prove anything... Just that their car is only and from 2005, lmaoo... Which we all knew already! I bought a 2015 C400,, and the Mercedes has a lot more value without all the extra packages... Volkswagens are a joke! The C300 is a better car without packages too... I could buy 2 CCs for the price of my C400. and I still wouldn't, until VW steps their game up, right now they're at baby steps.... I'm way past that!
Corey Brown Yeah well, good things come for those who wait! (or something like that)... Anyway, take for example the Volvo XC90. It took them a decade to redesign it but OH BOY was it worth it!! If you want the latest from VW, check the new european Passat. The next CC will surely have the same interior
Corey Brown I rented a w205 in Zurich CH for the last month (C180 estate)...full intelligent LED, pano roof, premium nav,...loved the car. Sure it wasn't fast, but the turbo made it sprightly....best thing is I averaged 40 US MPG with the car, flogging it in germany on the A1 and driving it in downtown Zurich (read: traffic) constantly. back in the US now and put my order in for the C400. less nimble feeling, but holy hell I love the car. But MBUSA, screw you for not offering the w205 wagon here! the car was absolutely friggen fantastic! as for the CC - my point is that while it's an old platform, it's held up very well over the last decade, and still has features that other cars still don't have (auto hold brakes, turbo direct injection, dual clutch, etc.). The interior isn't bad either. with that said, I wou;dn't take 2 for my w205.
The issue with this car (and the reason it doesn't sell) is that you're asking customers to pay $6k extra just on cosmetics. You get no added functional features to your Passat by getting the CC. And honestly, where is that money going? VW should just make this the normal Passat and phase out the normal one...there seems to be no real sacrifice in cabin space by getting the CC.
You're wrong. CC is still a direct variant of the Euro PQ46 Passat. As such, interior is substantially improved (better touch points, ambient lighting), there's no offset steering wheel, and it carrues premium features unavailable in the Chinese/American Passat, things likr like adaptive bi-Xenon with LED tailamps/DRL, electronic barking brake with hill hold, 600 watt dynaudio (better sounding than Fender). Not to mention it has a BASE 2.0 TSI engine.
BYSMA4th Ya what the other guy said. It is a completely different car that is why it is still offered with a manual because that is what the rest of the world drives.
This is a car for Europe or NZ/Australasia. America won't get it. Simple driving mode a very good idea. And VWs little problem that dare not speak it's name necessitates a car to buy in confidence of it lasting. Also as the ICE nears it's ultimate this is a proper car.
aram442 yeah someone told VW that Americans will not pay the extra money for a higher end interior. That on it's own was a solid piece of advice (we just don't value it) but where they mess up is they went to whatever supplier GM used in the 90's to make their cars. The sad part is, they cut their quality right as the rest of the market (ford, GM, Dodge, Honda, ect.) started sending improved interiors here, which was one of the led factors in a North american sales drop. This most likely contributes to the CC's slow sales and considering they had just invested a ton in a new plant in Tennessee, that has gotta hurt. But yeah customers in the USA will not buy wagons, hatchbacks, diesels (this one is also thanks to GM), or Pay for a premium interior and why we are so attached to our Camry's I will never understand.
roguedogx The CC is a nice car at 35k. I have driven them and think they are excellent value for money. They are a nice badge, drive nice, reasonably reliable with a nice interior. This car is not a Mercedes S class nor is it intended to be. There are very few other cars on the road in this price range that are better. Toyota make super reliable cars and my family car is a Toyota but to be honest they do not look as good as the CC.
pay more? you can get a CC with all the options for 35K Cars are cheaper over here. since in some countries in Middle East you dont even pay a single Cent for Tax
bighands69 how do you compare a Toyota to a VW if you have driven a VW even for a singel time you would understand how much difference there is between a Toyota and a VW or anyother German Car
bighands69 see I do agree with you that the CC is a nice car (I think it's way over priced, but I like it). I was just pointing out that the american versions got cheapened up in the second gen, and that I thought VW doing that to their whole lineup was a terrible idea. I was not dissing the car, I was dissing VW's attempts to ruin a great car.
Why do I have the feeling that VW simple doesn't care about the US market. I live in TW and my golf us better equip than this CC. My cousin actually has this CC and it has lane dep. warning, napa leather, sun roof, climate control, bigger screen... List goes on. Also, we're actually waiting for the new CC now and stopped sales of this iteration.
I understand VW is a drivers car but they really need to step up their game. That interior tech is way behind other cars in their price range and a huge turn off to consumers.
Our godly Brian has returned
I wish he came back for the new glc or any other totally new cars
Finally some good sense! A manual gearbox!!!
Probably my favorite car on the road. Not too fast, but that styling is 👌🏻

I can't get over the thumbnail lol. It looks like Brian is reenacting that Kim Kardashian paparazzi shot
I'm so glad you noticed the problem with the on button, it's been bugging me in all VAG motors for years
That volume/power button will definitely makes me go nuts.
+David Lawman Silly to get upset over the trivial power/Pacman knob
.
electrictroy2010 I guess you haven't had a better power/volume knob :)
+David Lawman I've never noticed or cared, they all do the same thing, so there really isn't one :)
+Jonathan Ongman some care some don't.
+David Lawman indeed
I love the 60fps cnet!
LMAO at 2:15...."Is that Pacman, sticking his tongue out??"
lol Classic Cooley!
Beautiful car on the outside.

Good to know! I’ve heard that before. Such a shame it falls apart.
Looks elegant, classy, sleek and performs well as all European cars do. I've had one for 5 years but not had good luck on reliability.
I agree with his conclusion on the car. I bought a CC not for its specs not because it is common on the road. However, it looks good the drive is very nice. (I could drive this car all day) and it has the functions I need inside the car. It is not tech-heavy but very nice looking in my opinion.
I can't even stomach watching cnet videos in 720p anymore. Why are you using 60fps?
Shut up
As much as I'm a fan of Volkswagen's as a whole I could never bring myself to buy one. Maybe one day when they step up their technology bundling and maintenance issues.
Buying a 2013 one tomorrow.
kookieless I got 86,000 miles on my 2013 CC and still runs strong!
*****
only issue i've had was the airbag which was recalled a year before it actually went. so far been a great car.
I haven't done anything besides replace tires and done oil changes
same got 78k 2013 cc sport still didn't have a problem hopefully i dont for another 78k!
Hi did you buy the cc how is it running any problems I'm thinking on buying 1
VW seems to be where Honda was a few years ago in the tech department. They really need to catch up.
Hellfax Ya, in America!
Cnet's videos looks amazingly real lately. Why? Lol
DoubleD 613 60fps that's why
I like it!!! Why doesn't everyone do this?
DoubleD 613 some people don't think it looks natural, I love it.
Looks good on the outside, needs to be updated to 2015 on the inside
I don't know much about cars but what is the most high tech low priced car?
"Is that pac-man sticking his tongue out?!" Bwahahahaa XD
i love the looks of the interuor and exterior but just cant get over its lack of options
I love the infotainment in my ram 2500
Despite some of it's short comings, I really like this car. It's unique styling and sporty driving and tied down, reasonably comfortable ride, really works for me. This Volkswagen has gotten more expensive over the years, but has seasonal deals cut that expense to a more reasonable cost. Overall, not a bad car that one can live with as a daily driver.
The CC is much better equipped here in the UK
I have owned a lot of VW's over the years , but I do have to say that lately they've gone down the crapper with cheap materials and lack of options. I still like the Toureg but damn expensive.
Alaska North 99501 They are trying to appeal to the American market. The new Golf is a step in the right direction.
Alaska North 99501 the Touareg is my fav, but it is not coming anytime soon in the US.
"it's a small thing, but it makes me insane" 😂 I say this daily
Brian, I just love your honest opinion on car reviews. On this episode, you made me laugh at volume nob... lol
Thanks for your review on cars! Keep it up!
Good too see someone else who would be ticked off by a rotating power button! Oh, hey Brian, the new Maxima. I know you have thoughts on it - do it!
CNet should review the high end trim of the car. It should be better with sunroof, auto, V6 and AWD.
Why would auto make it better?
The CC doesn't sell much in the U.S. because it has poor reliability, according to Consumer Reports. In fact, the CC and the Beetle are the least reliable models in VW lineup. In the used market, you can get them cheap with low miles anywhere between $15,000 and $26,000.
Omg I thought that volume thing only bothered me! I want it to stay in the same spot! He's right... it's the little things.
I guess that adding the extra safety features that cooley talked about, will raise the price significantly and thats what VW dont want to, strategically speaking, as they want to keep the price up to the consumer level!
How reliable are these long term?
The German trim is wildly different. Paddle gear shifters etc
I live in Europe and I do see them on the road... not as much as polos or golfs but I do see them

In America you could buy a Lexus for about the same price and it would be of a higher standard as well.
I love my jetta
Did anyone else notice the mic being pushed towards his head at around 2:42. hahahaha
No paddles with the manual Cooley???
The rear lights look like they're off the Holden Commodore VF
In the 2016 Passat CC vr6 4motion is the Dyanudio system the 10 speaker system with the 4 subwoofers (1 in each door) and the 3 way up front and 2 way in the rear still the setup? Or is there another Setup by Dynaudio?
It's annoying how Volkswagen doesn't provide a USB port but will have an SD card slot....
USB port in center console on the 2016 rLine.
Center console armrest, that is.
there is a usb somewhere...
Does anyone know the song in the background while he's in the car?
Weird it didn't get the new 2.0T.

You all bought the wrong model the cc with 3.6 4 motion executive model 2013 and up is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I sense that Brian is a Bond fan.
I thought I was the only one who goes crazy about the power/volume knob. I have to leave it upright and only use steering wheel controls
We don't see a lot on the road... 'cause of the price!
the CC has all the driver assistance and they are active, i donno why he said it does not have driver assistance. it hase lane departure warning with active steering correction, blind spot, adaptive cruise control and park assist with auto parking.
the highest trim has a v6 that has 300+ hp and all wheel drive.
i don't know why they don't review the highest trim with the full options any more :(
Basically an 06 Passat with some style.
id just load up a gti. And get on with my life
I like mine it's different and fairly unique I do wish it wasn't governd so low how ever
Best value at 20k in unque styling.
I like his car and know that I know I can get it in manual I'm all about it

great german car :) Especially with biTurbo Diesel 240KM

The sad part is, they cut their quality right as the rest of the market (ford, GM, Dodge, Honda, ect.) started sending improved interiors here, which was one of the led factors in a North american sales drop. This most likely contributes to the CC's slow sales and considering they had just invested a ton in a new plant in Tennessee, that has gotta hurt.
But yeah customers in the USA will not buy wagons, hatchbacks, diesels (this one is also thanks to GM), or Pay for a premium interior and why we are so attached to our Camry's I will never understand.

The CC is a nice car at 35k. I have driven them and think they are excellent value for money.
They are a nice badge, drive nice, reasonably reliable with a nice interior.
This car is not a Mercedes S class nor is it intended to be. There are very few other cars on the road in this price range that are better.
Toyota make super reliable cars and my family car is a Toyota but to be honest they do not look as good as the CC.
pay more?
you can get a CC with all the options for 35K
Cars are cheaper over here. since in some countries in Middle East you dont even pay a single Cent for Tax
bighands69
how do you compare a Toyota to a VW
if you have driven a VW even for a singel time you would understand how much difference there is between a Toyota and a VW or anyother German Car
bighands69 see I do agree with you that the CC is a nice car (I think it's way over priced, but I like it). I was just pointing out that the american versions got cheapened up in the second gen, and that I thought VW doing that to their whole lineup was a terrible idea. I was not dissing the car, I was dissing VW's attempts to ruin a great car.
I'm surprised he didn't mention the totally useless sd card slot.
I love it, but it have some hiccups
Under power for the size of this car.
Why do I have the feeling that VW simple doesn't care about the US market.
I live in TW and my golf us better equip than this CC. My cousin actually has this CC
and it has lane dep. warning, napa leather, sun roof, climate control, bigger screen...
List goes on. Also, we're actually waiting for the new CC now and stopped sales of
this iteration.
My cousin got that car
4:14 Looks like a hedgehog
I'd rather have a base trim Mazda 6 for a lot less money.
so... basically... this is a new old car... :/
That tech thing...Dealbreaker. Unfortunate.
never been sooo early
for 35k, that is actually a ***** of ****.
nexus 5..epic
I understand VW is a drivers car but they really need to step up their game. That interior tech is way behind other cars in their price range and a huge turn off to consumers.
The car is based on a platform that is a decade old.
I never understood why VW made the CC. It seems so out of place in theirroduct line.
I'd rather get a Golf GTI or R instead of this thing.
For the same price, I'd rather get an A4
I hope the next passat they send us isn't as watered down and shit compared to the European version
