I will never understand why people can't take even a little care of their vehicles. They spend crazy amounts of cash and proceed to just destroy them. Weird.
How you take care of something speaks volumes about peoples character and priorities. That applies to much more than just cars. If someones car is a junk heap with parts falling off, garbage and laundry on the inside, rolling around with bald tires.....can you imagine what their house/apt. looks like?
It's the same reason people avoid maintenance that cost money money that they usually don't have because they probably got that car on a loan this is why 20-year-old sports cars when you have a clean well maintained relatively stock example of one they tend to be worth a bit because they tend to get bought up by people who can't afford the maintenance on them

Is it a backhole dealership with tons of totaled mk6 GTIs, ccs, and other German cars in the back in south Atlanta where the only nice car around is driven by the guy selling a low milage mk6 for a questionably low price? Is that car dirty? Etc. All of these are important and not at all very specific questions that everyone should ask. Also never buy a car from someone who smoked weed in the car. As a European I'm still amazed by the poor condition of some cars driving on US roads. People don't seem to maintain their cars very well and claim that German cars are unreliable. Are there no mandatory safety inspections of cars? We need to have an our cars inspected at least every two years. If the car fails inspection, we have a month to fix it and have it reinspected or it will be taken off the road.

You don’t understand lol. Some states like my state of New York have mandatory safety inspections. Doesn’t matter. I bought a vw tiguan 2012 from a friend of a friend. From the first day i had it the sunroof was leaking to the point that the floorboards were soaked. It was the sunroof li es needed to be unclogged. Then 6 months later the control arms, calipers rotors and pads needed to be replaced on the front brakes. Eventually, coolant was going at a rate of 1 cup every week. Turns out that engine has a heat exchanger on the intake behind the turbo (thankfully) and that heat exchanger leaked. right into the cylinders.
@john turner we do, it just depends on what state. I know for a fact California and New York have them. I know there are other states, but they are two of the most notable ones. Where I am, people have half of their cars rusted out and still drive lol
Depends on the state some like California and New York in Vermont or more strict some do it once a year some do it every 2 years some states have no inspection at all because they view it as unconstitutional also some states allow you to not have a title if a car is over 30 years old
@@RyanRiopel for a lot of Americans I realistically think that's the only way they could afford owning a car like a coworker of mine had an early 2000s GM that was fairly good but the power steering rack went it cost $3,500 in a mechanic to replace that was more than what he paid for the whole car The car is worth maybe $1,200 in a good day
Its a EA888, its likely the piston rings causing the oil burning. The fact that it lasted 200k is a miracle. The racket straps were a nice touch. My barely maintained 87 Audi 4000 quattro had less bodge jobs then this car when purchased!
I had a B5.5 Passat. It always burned oil through the entirety of me owning it. What killed it was the plastic coolant hose that’s behind the engine exploding. But what sucked was that I actually really enjoyed that little car, and it’s left me wanting another VAG car but I need two other reliable cars before buying another old VW.
Daughter purchased program car, a lease return. She was told it was an 1990 model but she never looked at the title...it was older...with a v 6 motor...the car was built around that motor! It was a full sized sedan rode comfortably. Purchased with 55k on it if that's believable. Not dip stick for auto trans. When it got to around 80k told her she needed to purchase an Asian auto or the vw was gonna become a money pit. Then she got a campaign letter about her sunroof needing factory authorized repair. So even though the car had been thru a recent hurrican where local areas were flooded and her car remained dry she went into the nefarious claws of the local VW dealer in daytona, then located on west end of Mason Ave. They kept the car for repairs...then called told us the huge over sized battery that's was in great shape all of a sudden died. So we purchased a battery from local parts house at 1/4 the cost of what v.w. wanted and went on our way. Within days it rained and her car had 4-5" of water in it. Back to the dealer they said it was not their fault..😮 though no leaks were apparent until after they worked on it as a factory recall. Few weeks later she said dad check under my car it smells like hot grease...after inspection revealed a nice clean case cutter slice across the outboard CV joint bellows passenger side allowing grease to go everywhere. As a master ASE mechanic diesel gas med & heavy truck from experience knew C.V. boots never tear across bellows usually in the valleys...daughter called vw for bellow kit. Nope only new half Axle at ruffly $500.00. So to save her removed and replaced with after market for like 1/5th of quoted price...could not find a boot kit in our area. That sealed it. She traded for a Asian car and is still driving it today. German cars, unreliable when compared to asian cars. Plus require speciality tools, factory is slow to share pertinent information for repairs parts too expensive...their not the peoples car. They are for gear heads who live to twist wrenches or for folks who get a swelled head spending money on lots of German maintenence. Wouldn't own one if I won it happily sell it asap! Sadly VW lost its original mission statement years ago... Ferdinand & Adolf must be rolling in their graves....😢
This just seems like your typical luxury car eventually ends up in the hands with someone who can't afford to replace a single module in it and then people wonder why a nice one's hard to find 15 years later
Always great to watch professionals who know what they doing, any advice for those of us who come from a different brand regarding which engines to avoid or which engines are, let’s say more reliable than other with VW Jetta/golf/cc or maybe even Audi?
IMO, if you do this (put up a good picture and the car doesn't reflect that) immediately dropping the price lower than posted. Don't care if it's already dirt cheap or even if it's free, you now owe me money to take it. 6:15 _"this is jump.. city right now"_ Could've said _(21)_ jump street but I like the jumper movie reference. Can't believe Paul would disparage my man with the jerry can trunk release by implying he just picked up some old stinky jerry can as opposed to buying a brand new clean one for this specific purpose, like any sane individual would.
alignments are not necessary once a year. the only reason an alignment changes is from worn out components or damage, things that would not be fixed with just an alignment. it is however recommended to get the alignment checked when you put new tires on or if you notice a wear issue when you rotate your tires every 5k like you are supposed to
Love my CC. Did need to replace rear main and Waterpump, but Waterpump was under-warranty. Replaced all seals myself and the car runs strong with a stage 2 tune
love your videos! however, it looks like it was apparent that there was hail damage in the photos, besides dont ever buy a car without seeing it in person first... and he would have had the opportunity to look underneath and see ratchet straps too.
My buddy’s parents bought a 13 CC last year. Within a week the a/c stopped working and then an injector stuck and hydrolocked a cylinder, Bending a rod. Used motor dropped in, dropped a valve and ruined that engine within 1000 miles. Actual new motor dropped in jow and it’s doing well. Jusy bad luck after bad luck lol.

I've had the oil consumption/smoking problem on two of these engines from 2009. Try doing a piston ring soak with equal parts mystery oil and berryman B12. Soak it for a good 2 or 3 days while working on some of the other things. It's going to smoke like crazy once you put it back together, so take it outside (on a windy day). Good as new. Except for the rest of the car of course.
That control arm bushing is not a "later" thing . That is a now thing . But that car is on the edge of parts only . I hope his employee discount is huge $$.
My friend had one of these for a bout a year after that he spent 3k fixing even after fixing all the issues it started again with another problem then another and it never ended after that he ended up trading in the car for a Kia stinger only time will tell how long the stinger holds up
I saw one of these for sale in a Pick N Pull junkyard in the rebuildable vehicles section, first time I’ve ever seen a car less than 10 years old there
Its a common problem in usa with cars like that, because there is no real technical inspection, cars like that is street legal, you will never ever see scrap like that in the roads of Europe in any country, police would just stop you and eliminate tour technical inspection just in the middle of your way home.

For the burning of the oil. If there isn't much blowby in the cylinders, then the pcv system might not be the problem. The valve seals would be my next guess. If it was not the turbo seals letting oil burn up inside the turbo exhaust side. That car has def been hot rodded around. IMO
It doesn't need a head gasket. It just needs absolutely everything else

Eventually, coolant was going at a rate of 1 cup every week. Turns out that engine has a heat exchanger on the intake behind the turbo (thankfully) and that heat exchanger leaked. right into the cylinders.
seat is spanish for quality
its a fairly common issue on the 1.4 tsi if you work on them enough. ive replaced a handfull of them
I like how a lose battery ins't a problem in the US. Here (The Netherlands), it's an inspection failure
Don’t think they do annual inspections over in the US!
@john turner we do, it just depends on what state. I know for a fact California and New York have them. I know there are other states, but they are two of the most notable ones. Where I am, people have half of their cars rusted out and still drive lol
In a lot of states and some provinces you can buy a car and register it without any inspections ever.
Paul's level of roasting is beyond this world. Great video. 😂
That timing chain is "21 jump street" styles Note to self..."don't buy a car off a burnout"! 🤣
I love this guy's sense of humor 🤣 stay original
Previous owner was a distinguished member of society, a highly respected and educated individual, back in his school day was always an honor student.
I own a vw cc since 2009 and I had zero (0) problems. My only expense is premium gasoline and regular maintenance
Honestly I've been wanting a CC but hear they're total pains but they are soooo nice
That's a Passat CC... the CC came after this model :)

_"this is jump.. city right now"_
Could've said _(21)_ jump street but I like the jumper movie reference. Good movie
Im happy with mine from 2009 i never had problems
Can't believe Paul would disparage my man with the jerry can trunk release by implying he just picked up some old stinky jerry can as opposed to buying a brand new clean one for this specific purpose, like any sane individual would.
That model/gen of VW actually looks very nice
One thing I thought I'd never say
alignments are not necessary once a year. the only reason an alignment changes is from worn out components or damage, things that would not be fixed with just an alignment. it is however recommended to get the alignment checked when you put new tires on or if you notice a wear issue when you rotate your tires every 5k like you are supposed to
When buying a used Vw/Audi just make sure to have a good spot to have it on jackstands for half the time
Or the owner happened to be Mr moneybags and just got everything fixed as soon as it broke and didn't even look at the bill
@@TwoDollarGararge That would be ideal
@@snoopy5736 have a Mark 4 2.0 golf 230,000 miles right now owned by an old lady clearly she just wrote a check for the parts bazooka every wear item and potential problem item is new if the mechanic didn't mess the belt up and bend some valves it would have been great
@@TwoDollarGararge I have an A4 B7 , oil pump balance shaft went out. 134k
I have never seen a Passat CC in such a bad condition , in from Europe
I have a 2012 vw cc with 148k miles haven’t had any problems yet i just do basic maintenance.
Just picked my 16yr old son a 2011 r line with 120k for 6500… interior is mint. Has the 2.0. I drive a b7 a4 2.0.
Going out on limb to say the previous owner had an uncle who’s a tv repairman with an awesome set of tools.
I bought a 2011 vw cct for $800 timing chain failure I put in another $500 into it fixed it my self runs great for a total of $1300
This car needs its own go fund me page.
haha yes!
I'm just wondering what the ad would look like, if you were to sell this car based on it's positives..
* Front shocks have no leaks
* Head gasket intact
* Factory alloy wheels
* Runs & drives ^
^ not recommended
Umm, did I miss any?..
Always liked the look of the CC. Was looking into buying one about 5-6 years ago but found out about the carbon problem in the engine (was looking at used 2012-2015 CCs at the time).
What carbon problem?
@@eden20111those 2.0s are notorious for having problems I hear
very pretty car.. but doing some checking i bought a 2014 ford fusion with the 2.0 vel engine.. se with lux packge and 18 inch wheels... has adjustable supension on it now and a tune..35 mog on the highway at 70, in cruse control... 0-60 now 5.7 seconds... nice looking car inside and out
Nice sense of humour
I just purchased an obd11 to talk to my 2013 golf tdi im excited to give it a go
Volkswagens are pretty good cars if they’re maintained well!
And the truth is that most people in America at least do not have a high tolerance for preventative maintenance. Especially here in the Northeast.
You should make a update video of what happened to the CC
I've had the oil consumption/smoking problem on two of these engines from 2009. Try doing a piston ring soak with equal parts mystery oil and berryman B12. Soak it for a good 2 or 3 days while working on some of the other things. It's going to smoke like crazy once you put it back together, so take it outside (on a windy day). Good as new. Except for the rest of the car of course.
The underbody damage and the large red gas container for the trunk release also reveals the previous owner/driver was most likely legally blind!
Please can I have a link to the OBDeleven timing chain check?
this car should be part of a series of videos. my daily is a 12 vw cc 6 speed.
The gas can got a literal laugh out of me. Wow.
That control arm bushing is not a "later" thing . That is a now thing .
But that car is on the edge of parts only . I hope his employee discount is huge $$.
My friend had one of these for a bout a year after that he spent 3k fixing even after fixing all the issues it started again with another problem then another and it never ended after that he ended up trading in the car for a Kia stinger only time will tell how long the stinger holds up
Island gray, great color.
My first brand new car was a 2012 CC sport 6 speed in island gray. My third year working for VW haha.
Why did Devon still buy the car are seeing it? Or was it purchased for educational purposes
6:28 loving the Ginster in that picture
Valve guide seals will make a care smoke as well
I saw one of these for sale in a Pick N Pull junkyard in the rebuildable vehicles section, first time I’ve ever seen a car less than 10 years old there
Man I hope the previous owner sees this 😂
Supertec oil doesn't smell different to other oils.. My guess is weed man put some scent in there
Its because he got high, because he got high, Because he got hi-i-iiii
A vw with a broken trunk? Amazing
You see the type of pants the seller was wearing and it alllll makes sense lol
Bingo.
Its you laughing at the piece of cigarillo paper for me 😂😂😂😂
I wanna see a followup to this !
Especially diy PDR hail dent removal!
Wow. Never seen a cc so thrashed
Poor CC. Was a very nice car at one time! : (
Its a common problem in usa with cars like that, because there is no real technical inspection, cars like that is street legal, you will never ever see scrap like that in the roads of Europe in any country, police would just stop you and eliminate tour technical inspection just in the middle of your way home.
I love watching your videos bro I learn more every day ... what confuses me a little is the obd7 I bought it but I don't know how to use it if you could give me an explanation I would appreciate it .. blessings
If you’re not doing a series on this car. Can we get some updates? I bought one for $800 with a VR6
6:05 How did he get to this screen? The linked video is old and no longer matches the current build of OBDEleven.
Well it is a very used old CC
We have a 2017 and it is beautiful and lots of fun
Along with the timing chain tensioner issue, almost all of the cc's headliners do this about 10-12 years in...
I love how the CAI install looks clean but the rest of the car is a unmitigated disaster of deferred maintenance.
turns out I have seen the "how to check timing chain" video back in 2021 as soon as I bought my mk6 GTI, and I didnt drove for a week till get the funds to replace it! it was 6.something! some people dont take care of their cars, its crazy, but your videos have helped me a lot! thank you as always, and im watching this for fun lol,
also my car is burning oil but I havent find the reason yet, using liquimoly 5w40 and adding 1L every 1300 miles, need to open the engine but not that good yet! any clue? no leaks, no codes, no wet oil on exhaust, just regular dry burnt oil on exhaust, no coolant being burned or smelled (did waterpump too) its literally just burning and no clue where, also from TX (150k miles stock engine, bought it at 108k)stock turbo from the factory still (might be turbo??), brand new PCV and i replaced 3 times already within 40k miles just to be sure it works, they were all good!
Sweetness in the oil likely means it has esters in it. ST oil is perfectly acceptable quality oil.
I'd consider running SuperTech in my Jeep, maybe in my ABA if I needed some in a pinch, but never in a chain driven and/or turbo VW motor.
What are you an organic chemist? I don’t remember what esters smell like but maybe we only made them in the hood :)
For the burning of the oil. If there isn't much blowby in the cylinders, then the pcv system might not be the problem. The valve seals would be my next guess. If it was not the turbo seals letting oil burn up inside the turbo exhaust side. That car has def been hot rodded around. IMO
this is the best worst car sales ad video ever omg haha, did not disappoint on the wtf scale here
Hilarious. By chance do you know the vcds block to check timing stretch on the gen 3 engines?
