Hi Rebecca, I must say that I really like this review! The flow is natural & comfortable :) I like how u make comparison with others cars and show us the equipments and practicality of the car in an orderly way. Most of all, I appreciate that you touch on the design, which is rare in carbuyer reviews.
Great car for a good price. I've had it over four years now since new and have had no problems. Shame Chevrolet no longer sell in the UK as I would have bought the Cruze next.
Alex Pavitt You can still buy a Cruze. .a good choice if you want to buy a second use car.For the best price you have a Cruze And. you don't have to be a shamed to buy an used one!
This Carbuyer youtube feature of Chevrolet Aveo hatchback review is splendid to watch. The youtube author also taking the car on the road while discussing more of the car features is an enhanced and educative addition to the video.
That's great to hear! I have mine since October 2012 and only have 5500km (I use public transportation when it's possible). But it's great to hear that at 15000 km, the car haven't got you any trouble!
This looks like a really good car to pick up. My only concern is that because Chevrolet are no longer trading the UK, with the exception of Camaro and Corvette, is that the parts will now be expensive to get hold of if something goes wrong.
I actually prefer the styling of Aveo and that Chevy badge. Much more interesting than a Corsa. I'm sure people who aren't checking out the Aveo are missing out on quite a few things. After reading your comment, I'll defo add this car to my shortlist. I was looking for a Seat Ibiza or Mazda 2.
We bought the diesel one of these last year as an ex-demo, had done 500 miles. We had no problems wit it for the first year. However, in it's second year we've had nothing but trouble. Every time we start it, it bongs, and an error message comes up on the dashboard. The engine warning light also stays on. It's been to the dealer to be fixed at least 5 times, but it's still doing it. We also don't even come close to 78 mpg, we average 53 combined. However, it's easy to drive and cheap, so it's ok
can i disagree with you? its a very good car, fun to drive, and for the price of 12500 euros (LT version) it have a lot of extras. I have one, and i love it
Yeah, here in Portugal the cars are very expensive. The new Focus costs at least 20k euros. The Aveo costs 10k euros at least, which is much more affordable. But fuck the gas prices! 1.6 euros per litre which is over 2 dollars per litre, over 6 dollars a gallon! That's why I usually use public transportation. It's better for the environment, I do more excersice and better for my wallet!
The Aveo name appeared in the US. I rented one on Kauai a few years ago. It is a fun car to drive, and it is a lot easier to see out of than many contemporary cars. Luggage for two were no problem. Saying the back seat has ample leg room for adults is arguable. But as a car for 2 or 3, this is a good car, at least when new. Finally, now that Ford is bailing out of passenger cars, and Fiat-Chrysler may do the same, and GM world cars like Aveo may have the North American small car market almost to themselves.
I test drove the 1,2 petrol and it is horribly slow when accelerating. And I must say, you mention it on every review that there is very good leg room in the back, but that is because your seating position is practically in the dashboard.
nice video, but the mpg in the 1.3 diesel will actually be around 54mpg for anyone thinking about one. I personally love mine though. Best wee car I ever owned!
I agree that its a fine car. Its let down a bit by the old Opel engines though and in particular the entry level 1,2 petrol. Which simply has no power at all, when you get into 5. gear. But luckily GM is already working on a whole new generation of engines to replace most of the current ones.
I Love my litte aveo mine has around 70.000 KM and no Problems. And it's just so Nice to Drive this lovely Car. And it is my First One. In driving Lessons i had a VW Tiguan, and i like my aveo more Then the tiguan.
this car (the ls trim level) didn't come with air conditioning or power windows standard in 2011, which is really disturbing, but you get what you pay for
You say that in the back seat there is loads of headroom but you're only 5"4. I think I'd rather go for the Kia Rio as Matt seemed to fit quite comfortably in the back there and plus you can't argue with a 7 year warranty!
Smaller displacement engines, diesel engines, and larger gallons. If the diesel makes it to the US, the emissions equipment required in US diesels will knock the mileage down nearly 10%.
why do people assume our cars are unreliable? cheap looking, that's unfortunately true... but they last forever! all I see are 90's Pontiac and Buicks with 200k+ miles, still going. what car does the UK manufacture? when they build cars, they break down.
i am also satified with my Chevy Aveo.It is not cheap build, it is solid build, and ithe interior quality is in same level as my Toyota Auris which was much more expensive.
Jaguar, Land Rover, Vauxhall... just to name a few. Do these all break down? And compared to cars built for the Europe market, such as Volkswagen's, yes chevy's break down a lot in comparison. I assume you don't drive..
Aveo is a korean car by the brand Daewoo sold by Chevy in the US. "Chevrolet Aveo. The Chevrolet Aveo (/əˈveɪ.oʊ/ ə-VAY-oh) is a subcompact car manufactured since 2002 (by Daewoo from 2002-11), marketed worldwide in 120 countries under seven brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, Holden, Pontiac, Ravon, and Suzuki)"
I drove one of those in Spain. Would be a good little car if it wasn't so horribly underpowered. What's the point of fitting an underpowered ECO-Engine in a small car. You just end up having to rev it much higher to get any form of acceleration which in turn means consuming more fuel.
How tall are you Rebecca? I am asking because when Matt ( 5 '11" ) shows us that there is plenty of leg and head room for everyone - I am convinced. Whereas someone who is 5' 2" would have a lot of head and leg room in the back seat of essentially any car that is on the market.
This is a superb car, but all in all its basically a much improved and updated 'Daewoo Kalos'. Same shape etc and engine just looks different due to when Chevrolet took over Daewoo when they went out of business.
My new car from 1.o4.2013. Coolest Car 1.2 liter engine accelerates to 200 km / h gasoline burns 6.5 liters per 100km.Chevrolet be tried, well thought-out solutions. Recommend!!. TOM-Poland.
Yes you're right... it's called the Chevy Sonic in America... They have kept the old Aveo name for the UK and Europe... silly really they should have called them all the Sonic... we've got a Diesel version here in UK but don't know if that is available in the USA!
I think this is a better review then the previous Mitsubishi 4x4 review, however it does come across at times as though she is reading what she is saying. Like an autocue ya know? She needs to work on that as otherwise she's great and has a nice voice.
How could you say that this is a shitty car ? this car offers a lot for the price tag it has and, personally, I think it looks great for a small car. I guess some people are just badge snobs. Good review.
I think any normal person would assume that you said it is a bad car, after you said "aveo is crap". And it has a manual transmission, I don't know what the hell are you talking about.
The old Aveo was like GM's greedy laugh in your face, knowing they have your money. Whenever I see one, I'm like: "Oh, good Lord! What made you buy that piece of garbage?" It was obviously bought by people who hadn't done their research properly because there were/are much better cars for the same price.
Tougher EU regulations on MPG and customers have since the 80's come to expect very high MPG also most european cars have smaller engines and all gasoline and diesel fuel have on average a 20% mix of ethenol/methenol.
FORD KA is competitor for Chevrolet Spark.. The Fiesta is the competition for Aveo, of course the Aveo will have a bigger space than the KA - they are 2 different classes. FYI
@OpForza Do you know what is a chevrolet optra, or the old aveos? they might be more suitable for europe, because in the climate of our country the'yre breaknig up, color is peeling... lots of nasty stuff. but it might be because of our climate.
Why should we care if it has a bigger boot than the ford ka,when the aveo is 40cm logner than the ka. Not to mention its rival is ford fiesta and not ford ka. Please hire someone to write the scripts. Still I liked your review :)
@paypointpal she was going through double twisty bends. If you wanna go faster, you have to be drifting :P
12 лет назад
sorry to say, but it IS aveo. It is called Sonic in USA only, as the last Aveo was so bad, that this time chevrolet cut all the ties with it by renaming it
@aspiringdrummer17 My point is, it looked as though she was only doing about 25mph, how can you judge cornering at 25mph lol. My dads Jag takes corner great at 25mph, but at 70mph.? Not so much.
Hi Rebecca, I must say that I really like this review! The flow is natural & comfortable :)
I like how u make comparison with others cars and show us the equipments and practicality of the car in an orderly way.
Most of all, I appreciate that you touch on the design, which is rare in carbuyer reviews.
Awesome! Mine reached 7000km last week and still no problem!
Greetings from Porto!

That's great to hear!

Sat at 82000 miles now and it's still no grief.
This looks like a really good car to pick up. My only concern is that because Chevrolet are no longer trading the UK, with the exception of Camaro and Corvette, is that the parts will now be expensive to get hold of if something goes wrong.
Just don’t break it
It's basically a Corsa underneath so parts availability through GM is absolutely zero concern
I mean we've had the same Avei diesel for about a decade now and literally never had a real problem besides a blockage in my air con line.
Here in America, this is called the Chevrolet Sonic. It is the replacement for our Aveo. This is a much better car than the old Aveo.
We bought the diesel one of these last year as an ex-demo, had done 500 miles. We had no problems wit it for the first year. However, in it's second year we've had nothing but trouble. What then, did they fix it..?.. Do you have it now.?
can i disagree with you? its a very good car, fun to drive, and for the price of 12500 euros (LT version) it have a lot of extras. I have one, and i love it
wow the US version "sonic" is so much nicer than what you guys get in the UK, but you get a diesel i just wish they brought them here.
Carbuyer:Josh, what a lovely car. Can I rent your car for a day?
Josh: Thank you. Sure.
3:18 "cheap plastic interior"
Put CD's in the top? Do people still have those in the car???
Yeah, here in Portugal the cars are very expensive. The new Focus costs at least 20k euros.

78.4 British MPG = 65.282 US MPG. Still very economical.
I just bought one of these in Australia! Here it's call a Holden "Barina" though! ;) Not even chevy badged.
I Love my litte aveo mine has around 70.000 KM and no Problems. And it's just so Nice to Drive this lovely Car. And it is my First One. In driving Lessons i had a VW Tiguan, and i like my aveo more Then the tiguan.
same here! this car is surprisingly comfy, right?
G3rmanb3atxp same here. Mine has 80.000 km and is still going strong!
How many speakers does our cars have 2 in the front what are those things in the door bass or speaker 🔈?
this car (the ls trim level) didn't come with air conditioning or power windows standard in 2011, which is really disturbing, but you get what you pay for
You say that in the back seat there is loads of headroom but you're only 5"4. I think I'd rather go for the Kia Rio as Matt seemed to fit quite comfortably in the back there and plus you can't argue with a 7 year warranty!
Mat is still there but I think the two of them make a good tag team and present very well with these reviews.
Smaller displacement engines, diesel engines, and larger gallons. If the diesel makes it to the US, the emissions equipment required in US diesels will knock the mileage down nearly 10%.
why do people assume our cars are unreliable? cheap looking, that's unfortunately true... but they last forever! all I see are 90's Pontiac and Buicks with 200k+ miles, still going. what car does the UK manufacture? when they build cars, they break down.
thats becuase they have big engines
i am also satified with my Chevy Aveo.It is not cheap build, it is solid build, and ithe interior quality is in same level as my Toyota Auris which was much more expensive.
Jaguar, Land Rover, Vauxhall... just to name a few. Do these all break down? And compared to cars built for the Europe market, such as Volkswagen's, yes chevy's break down a lot in comparison. I assume you don't drive..
Land Rover is one of the the more notoriously unreliable brands out there.
There are 3 engines... 2 Petrol, 1 Diesel.. what useful information ¬_¬
I drove one of those in Spain. Would be a good little car if it wasn't so horribly underpowered. What's the point of fitting an underpowered ECO-Engine in a small car. You just end up having to rev it much higher to get any form of acceleration which in turn means consuming more fuel.
@SuperWargreymon Problem, officer? I can't find a single thing to point wrong about this review. It's actually one of the best reviews she made...
How tall are you Rebecca? I am asking because when Matt ( 5 '11" ) shows us that there is plenty of leg and head room for everyone - I am convinced. Whereas someone who is 5' 2" would have a lot of head and leg room in the back seat of essentially any car that is on the market.
Thats a sonic??
Rocket Lights Yes,in USA.
Is this car in the b-segment or c-segment?
I like potatoes, I like stew and I like Rebecca too.
This is a superb car, but all in all its basically a much improved and updated 'Daewoo Kalos'. Same shape etc and engine just looks different due to when Chevrolet took over Daewoo when they went out of business.
she's getting better..
good job..not a bad car really :)
Since when Aveo and Ford Ka are rivals? Why she compares the boot space between them...?
My new car from 1.o4.2013. Coolest Car 1.2 liter engine accelerates to 200 km / h gasoline burns 6.5 liters per 100km.Chevrolet be tried, well thought-out solutions. Recommend!!. TOM-Poland.
I like this little car. Every time GM makes a good car they quit making them.
Those round head lights look quite affordable to replace, some merc lights are over £700.
Hi Rebecca, Could you please review the Chevy Aveo SEDAN model? Expecting the upload from you or Mat Watson!
78mpg!! We need that over here in the US! The best I could think of its the Prius 50mpg?
its actually closer to 54mpg. sorry 9 years late replying haha
honda jazz, toyota yaris, mazda 2 or this. which is better?
Yes you're right... it's called the Chevy Sonic in America... They have kept the old Aveo name for the UK and Europe... silly really they should have called them all the Sonic... we've got a Diesel version here in UK but don't know if that is available in the USA!
@swunt10 it`s a opel corsa underneath..
is that like a chevy sonic but called aveo in UK?
I will be solfish if i will ask for another Mitsubishi review?Unfortunately there are so few reviews about this brand :(
Thumbs up if your sick of people comparing Matt and Rebecca, give it a break!!
I think this is a better review then the previous Mitsubishi 4x4 review, however it does come across at times as though she is reading what she is saying. Like an autocue ya know? She needs to work on that as otherwise she's great and has a nice voice.
theres loads of leg and head room because your 4.5 feet tall!! Like the design tho :)
Is there a 2 door or 3 door?
This car's design looks great by the way, not boring at all. Sure looks like the chevy sonic though.
I bought an Aveo because she told me to. I do love British women!
I'm curious why its called the Aveo, while in U.S. its called Sonic
does it came with iPod connectivity ?
go for the saloon version, you'll get more space in the boot. this really looks like a box of matches...
In my country it's called Sonic
Please review Subaru Forester
"bigger than a Suzuki Swift, and a Ford K.A"
Yooka: It’s just called "Ka".
Brilliant review, keep it coming
You guys need to reivew the Honda Jazz!
You can fold the seats down... to give you more room..... but it does not lie completely flat.... -Matt
Why do i get the feeling these aren't really review but actually ads...
also look at the website, its UK!
How much does it cost?
How could you say that this is a shitty car ? this car offers a lot for the price tag it has and, personally, I think it looks great for a small car. I guess some people are just badge snobs. Good review.
No Sonic?
@paypointpal The new Aveo is based on the Corsa so it shouldn't be too bad in the corners
This is alright I would like it to be better looking
would an 83,000 mileage be fine to buy?
The front looks like a slightly variated version of the colt
I love the reviewer much more than the car ;)
isnt that the chevrolet sonic ?
I think any normal person would assume that you said it is a bad car, after you said "aveo is crap".
And it has a manual transmission, I don't know what the hell are you talking about.
I can't even focus on the car when the girl is this attractive.
i will going to buy a chevrolet aveo 1.3 ls 2012 and i liked it's design
@Ragref I don't see this as much of an improvement lol.
Where is mat???
The old Aveo was like GM's greedy laugh in your face, knowing they have your money. Whenever I see one, I'm like:
"Oh, good Lord! What made you buy that piece of garbage?"
It was obviously bought by people who hadn't done their research properly because there were/are much better cars for the same price.
right on ;-) Just bought a LTZ and i am more than happy with it ;-)
Tougher EU regulations on MPG and customers have since the 80's come to expect very high MPG also most european cars have smaller engines and all gasoline and diesel fuel have on average a 20% mix of ethenol/methenol.
It depends on the way you drive the car.
Sonic and Aveo are two different models. Where I live the Aveo is a lot more economical than the Sonic. :)
FORD KA is competitor for Chevrolet Spark.. The Fiesta is the competition for Aveo, of course the Aveo will have a bigger space than the KA - they are 2 different classes. FYI
good review but was she brought in to review the cars that Matt has no intrest in driving.
please make a review for Mazda CX-5
When will Chevy learn that the badge looks horrendous when it's not on the grille or bonnet?????
Please do the Fiat panda review!
Their measurements are different than in the US.
Wow, can't believe the argument of K.A or KA..... is it really that serious?
i love it when she says "here" her accent is funny
No its not the aveo its a different body style, different interior, different engine and suspension, its not the aveo in any way shape or form.
i think it needs a larger tires and alloys... 16" might look better but the engine won't handle it...
@paypointpal she was going through double twisty bends. If you wanna go faster, you have to be drifting :P
sorry to say, but it IS aveo. It is called Sonic in USA only, as the last Aveo was so bad, that this time chevrolet cut all the ties with it by renaming it
looks like a good car, seems a better option
rather have this than a fiat or corsa
@swunt10 Chevrolet is the former Daewoo, which is Korean.
Isn´t an Aveo a POS Daewoo?
@aspiringdrummer17 My point is, it looked as though she was only doing about 25mph, how can you judge cornering at 25mph lol.
My dads Jag takes corner great at 25mph, but at 70mph.? Not so much.
