As soon as he says car vertical I skip until it’s finished 😂
I use sponserblock, does it for me and even shows where it is
Glad I have RUclips Red
@@kylewhisman You do know they rebranded to YT Premium
You should make an offer for that 'Wonder Grip' van. It probably does about 5 miles a year.
Lol, I was thinking as I watched, that van doesn’t move! 😂
Or charge them for the continuous product placement 🤷🏼♂️
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
its got stuck
I think it’s a bit obvious Matt charges the Wonder Grip lad for the shots of his logo
Engine falling apart but gets excited when there’s an arm rest and the aircon is working 🤣 this is why subscribed.
New drinking game, every time Matt says one of his catchphrases - take a shot. 'Well we're here', 'a good buff', and 'I've massively overspent'. Great video as always, I've never heard of one of these!
"Brake discs looks a bit ropey”, "it needs a good clean"
Crying out for a set of reg plates.
'its got a clutch at least'
'pulls well'
'thats had paint'
If I played that game, I would be as pissed as a rat!
Do my electric windows work?
You gotta love this guy: "I've set a repair budget of 500 Pounds"; two weeks later; "Well guys, I've overspent on this!" or "I've massively overspent!" If I was going to live in the UK, my first stop after Heathrow would be to head directly to High Peak Autos to purchase a car from Matt!
My old man's Aveo LTZ has done 249,000 on the same engine, clutch and gearbox.
Is it the diesel or petrol
Matt's new purchase checklist:
Hope and expectation of profit: check.
Wonder Grip van in car park: check.
Needs a clean: check.
Bosch wiper blades: check.
Service history: ABSENT!
Massively overspent: YESSS!
I loved that Matt was celebrating that he had "free" reg plates, at the time the engine was flashing warning lights and misfiring all over the place.
Great video Matt, as always. Thank you!
They are all over the USA and usually driven by those with utterly poor credit and they're always beaten to within an inch of their lives. There's a green one in my town that doesn't have a straight body panel on it and the headlights are being held in with tape. 🤣🤣
They’re known as the Sonic in America.
I rented one a few years ago in the US, its actually one of the cars I enjoyed to rent. Usually end up with a Nissan Sentra which IMO is the worst car ever to grace the planet!
Utterly poor credit! The same owner of said green car gives nothing to finance companies/banks has lowered his outgoings dramatically and probably doesn't give a shit what people think! Here in the UK some of the wealthiest people I know run around in old cars and old clothes! I run a 17 Yr old Ford mondeo 1.6 ltr petrol just passed another mot stands me around £300 and I've clocked up 25k in it so far! And will probably see it over 200k yet when people need to lend £1000 who do they come too? Social credit scoring is a mugs game! The only winners are those who score you!
Do you own it??😂
@@majorminor3367 Of course I do! Bought for cash around 15 months ago!
Matt, good luck selling this... I never heard of anybody looking for a Chevy/Daewoo Aveo... Might look a bit more interesting then a Corsa or a Punto, but much harder to sell...
Mate of mine had one, was a pain to get parts for. Low mileage and it wasn’t this much money 😂
I quite like the looks of the Aveo, I think the front looks quite "sporty", I like the headlights. The dash that looks like a motorcycle dash is kind of fun. I seem to remember they could some some quite eye-catching colours as well. This one looks pretty decent for 'just' silver, and the spec is pretty good.
Definitely goes in the "Interesting 1st Car" category, and so I'm glad it fell into Matt's tender mercies, it definitely seems like a car with (as Matt says) "A bit of life left in it yet".
If you like it so much I have good news there is a sorted one with a dealer in Stockport. Go get it bought.
Talking of Chevys, we're waiting for you to come over to the states and tour around in some more interesting cars. Maybe later this year?
I’d love to
That would make for some great content, perhaps do a 2 week stint there and rent a few cars, would be fun to see your views on a hellcat 😂@HighPeakAutos
Wonder Grip van resting up as usual 😂
added a dent removal van now to by the looks of it
@@teatimetel174 that’s a subtle advertisement for them.. wonder how much he paid Matt?!
Great video and content. Love hearing you say you overspent, but I think you did the right thing.
We had a pair of 2013 Insignias and a 2011 Astra at work and we had a printed sheet of the fault codes on the wall, it was like a weekly game of bingo 😂
So much for German 'gründlichkeit'.
Yep, I have an Opel Karl, horrible car, and very often a code will come up on start up, then disappear a few Kms into the ride...piece of crap....I don't even bother looking the codes up anymore cos there's obviously nothing wrong apart from the fact it's Opel 😂
Good morning Matt, nice looking car for someone as a first car or a second family car. Thank you for taking the time to plead another video. Ged.
Evening Matt you will sell this, loads more people looking for cheap car nowadays instead of electric crap.
Always liked the look,of these, it’s a smart little car
Allways on the look out for a sneaky partridge reference….keep them coming 👍
In Canada and the United States, Chevrolet sold these as the Sonic. While not the most desirable of vehicles, they tend to be quite reliable, minus some water pump issues on the early model years.
Yes. And don't forget to change the timing belt at 100,000 kilometres. It's an interference engine, and you'll be looking for a used engine if the belt goes. Other than that, they are an excellent car.
Good content matt better than run of rhe mill stuff, cheers
The guy from Wonder Grip as told the guy from Dents to park there for some free advertising lol before you know it the car park will be full of van from the local businesses wanting some free advertising ...great video as always thanks Matt
I've got an 09 aveo and honestly. My favourite car. Bought 3 years ago for £750 with 42000 miles on the clock. Never let me down. There's 3 in my entire area up here in Scotland. Fun fact, hold the unlock fot 5 seconds and all rhe windows will go down, lock button for windows up
You need to get a yellow Arnold Clark sticker in the back, there’s bound to be someone who wants to drive round in it 👍
Funnest comment seen in long time They love them here too. In Ireland 🇮🇪
"Don't I know how to pick 'em" ... "...£500 ...." which we all know won't happen, but is exactly why we all follow you and supportively chuckle.
You do care about what you sell and be as fair as you can .. so big respect .. keep it up!
Sold in Australia as the Holden Barina and you still see 'em all over the place.
“I’ve got a go pro stuck to my bonnet!” 🤣🤣🤣
Great video yet again Matt 👏👏👏
The Aveo was sold in the US from 2004-2020.
2004-2011 as the Aveo,
2012-2020 as the Sonic.
I remember! The Sonic name was a marketing thing made to let Americans think that it was a ''cool, hip'' European car. Of course it wasn't, it was only a newer Aveo! Nobody got fooled!
Tbh its a really good car for pizza deliveries and going around town. Fun fact Aveo is a in house brand of Muller GBMH( a big store with cosmetics and products in Europe). Glad you saved a little minter with low mileage.
Great video and work as always Matt! :D
Good little car, very easy to drive, and from memory as i worked at a chevrolet dealer here in the uk, very reliable, rarely saw these go wrong. Cheap to run, cheap to service. But parts might be harder to find since chevrolet left the uk many years back..
CONGRATULATIONS STOCKPORT COUNTY!! PROMOTED TO LEAGUE ONE👍👌
It's not a bad looking car. Certainly a rare one. Having watched your channel for some time, I don't think it's your worst buy.
Fingers crossed for a quick, full price sale.
Had one of these back in 2014 - blue LTZ with the diesel engine, and a touchscreen infotainment. It was TARDIS like in the back and I genuniely enjoyed it. Proper wee tank 🙂
We bought a cheap previous shape Aveo here in Spain after your thoughts on your Spark courtesy car. It’s been reliable and cheap to maintain for the last 2 years in a country where let’s just say maintenance and car care isn’t often the priority. Thanks for your insight!
Great little car! Cheers Matt
Love this channel always a surprised with your purchases. Get a chevrolet spark next they look awful but maybe im wrong
I agree with the low mileage comments, not always a good thing. I bought a 3 year old Vauxhall Omega V6 back in the day. 120,000 miles, a service history like a phone book and owned by a major bank. Brand new inside and ticked like a Swiss watch. Other than a camshaft sensor, it was flawless and was a real hoot to drive. Don't forget that the Australians race their version of the Omega. Was one of my better purchases.
don't the Australian version have a 4ltr V8 under the bonnet
I like your videos mate, keep it coming!
We bought a Matiz new for £5500 many years ago. Had it for 11yrs, did all the school runs and both kids learnt to drive in it. Sold it with 100000k on the clock. Never needed anything except wear and tear items. Brilliant in the back lanes of Devon.
My brother still has a Sonic aka Aveo, now at 170K mi. I didn’t mind driving it around town, was kind of fun.
piece of art that car. vincent would be proud
Great production. Someone is going to get a well sorted runabout.
Sometimes the low milage bites you I'm afraid.. Had a Chevy Spark 1.0 from brand new 2011, 11 years later and with the gramd total of 62000 miles it was toast. Cracked head, friendly mechanics opinion 'short journeys and not getting car consistently up to temp is a no no, especially on those wee 1.0 engines'.
You'd have to pay me to take that.
Please do more q& a clips. 🙏 You're a star
I'm curious why your left hand is stronger than your right hand 😂😂 Great video as always, Matt. Have a great weekend
It’s a mystery
These were known here in America and Canada as the Chevrolet Sonic and most of these cars were turbocharged from factory. And I don’t know about this “Aveo” but the Sonic were assembled here in Michigan (Orion Township)‼️ and that Oldsmobile you’re talking about Matt is the Alero.
I agree with you Matt its a good-looking vehicle and ideal 👍 first car
Nice one Cyril (Matt)😊
When you said for some reason your left hand is stronger It just cracked me 🤣🤣 i love your videos
I finally got to watch a fresh video.
You crack me up with the Partridge isms....Action man bow tie 😂
Matt!, when ya said 'it smells grubby' 😂i thought...THOSE POOR GUYS AT THE VALETING PLACE 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉
Matt be getting an English suntan with all this good weather today 😂.
Alright lads. Love the content! Just wondering, when you refer to Jimmy the magician, who is it? Need some body work doing and it's always good to use someone highly recommended. Many thanks
When we "sold up" in USA sold our car we decided to rent a Camaro SS for our last 10 days there because i had a Cirgi car of the Ss as a kid and had always dreamed of driving one........what a a mammoth heap if junk, it was a huge disappointment and the embodiment of why the American car industry has gone downe the crapper!😢😢
they are very competent small cars.. here in south america they were sold as Chevrolet Sonic (hatchback and sedan, LT/LTZ, MT6/AT6), only in 1.6 16v Ecotec with 110 hp guise.. problem is that only him has ever used this 1.6 engine around here, in a very short run.. they were sold only between 2013-2014 in a lineup full of other compact cars from GM, which narrowed it's market.
Talking of low mileage cars being sought after - my neighbour in the 70’s had a Skoda that was 4 years old with only 700 mile on it. It would never start and when it did it broke down quickly.
Stale fuel……on another note pun intended i had a nissan note 11 yr old 5500 miles old lady owned 400 miles a year…..i kept it for 5 years added 15000 ….never missed a beat , just sold it to offshoot of family…i think that aveo would be a good buy as long as new owner not looking for a drivers car.
I find it funny to hear that it's a rare car. These are everywhere here in Canada!
I had a similar small Chevrolet in Spain too funnily enough. GM must have had a deal for Spain because they were quite common and sold very well there, think I've only ever seen one in the UK. Great little run arounds, a tank of petrol lasted for ever and always easy to park. Brilliant budget run arounds.
I got those De Agostini magazine vibes. Where you get a part each month. Then when you're done youve bought a 1 to 1 replica of a Vauxhall Belmont.
And if you'd bought the real thing it would have been half the price.
The ten year old tax disc in the window should ensure you get the asking price Matt. Looks almost as good as new now.
I think we've come along far enough that you should start importing Mercs from Bulgaria
Always had a soft spot for these rare low rent superminis like the 2nd Proton Satria or MG3. Like the Aveo they seemed to be offering a sporty option for not a lot of dosh. I mean, those twin headlamps on the Aveo that look direct from Halfords circa 1999 are worth the asking price alone.
Absolute bargain of a car! And a retro car tax disc thrown in too ❤😂
Front styling / lights is fierce - like a Dodge Charger.
They were sold in Australia as a Holden Barina , basically a rebadged Daewoo.
they are decent looking cars but chevy badge put people off , it's a corsa underneath, they did a1.4 rs turbo here in uk, known as sonic uk usa, coil pack lasts about 25,000/ 35,000 mls
Wow I'd never heard of the 1.4 turbo! Seems only 10 were imported to UK? Cant see any 0 60 times anywhere but 140bhp in this in 2012 was decent for a warm hatch. Still is.
they were popular in Australia as the Holden Barina but largely because that nameplate was such an institution, from 2005 to 2018 it was those rebadged Daewoo models, before that from 1994 to 2005 it was a rebadged European Corsa, and originally from 1985 to 1994 it was a rebadged Suzuki Swift, so it's been many different cars but always a staple here
This video sums up the way car prices have gone in the last 3 years. I looked at these before covid for my son as they were very cheap. I had a Chevy Captiva that had been great. Son's response: "what is it, can't I just have a Corsa". So a Corsa he got. Fast forward 4 years and the Captiva went. Chevy pulling out of UK and lack of spare parts made it a pain to live with. Aveos are now the same price for the same car 4 yrs ago?? Sadly my son would still make the same comment😁
Now I have American Pie stuck on replay in my head - it’s a good song 🇺🇸 🥧 🎶
Hi Matt well estimated £ 1000 for repair soon as you started the car up . Chevy translated means heavy in your pocket . Good video and content .
they sold a few thousand of these in south africa , sedans and hatches. not bad quality , fairly light on fuel. less likely to be stolen than a polo or fiesta
Great video not a bad car for a comuter car .. probably cheap ro insure and tax would imagine the mpg woukd be good on the motorway.. different tp the corsa with a ok interior
Like you said it's more interesting looking than a corsa, punt, etc, and low miles.
You make me chuckle Matt, driving the car with could possibly konk out and you’re more worried about how grubby the interior is 🤣
The Ecotec engines have a problem with water seeping through the rubber seals corroding the coils (causing misfires). Source: I've owned a Corsa.
in my country that called SONIC not aveo, the Aveo here is smaller lol
My Dad bought one a while ago. Cheap, pretty solid/well built, and reliable. Far better than a lot of other cars TBF.
These were badged the Holden Barina in Australia and they sold pretty well here.
I once took the key out of the ignition while rolling in to my parents drive at midnight. CRASH. fence gone. Very dangerous to do that when the steering lock kicks in
17:17 and then the steering wheel lock kicked in 💀
nice video
Action man bow tie. You love partridge 😊
These are sold as the Sonic in the US.
Chevy also sold a model known as the Aveo at the same time but it was cheaper.
The Sonic was the darling of rental fleets and sold to a lot of first-time buyers and in several model years approached 100,000 units sold.
It was available with both turbocharged and normally aspirated engines, both engines have the same horsepower but the turbocharged variant had more torque, as well as 3 and 5-door hatchbacks or a four-door sedan and aside from a few issues with water pumps in early model years, were known to be quite reliable and durable.
My other car, my 2007 Hyundai Amica CDX Auto Mk2 has still only done 14,400 from new but don't let the low milage fool you. It has despite it's low milage been a bit problematic, mainly the brakes. Trouble is it often sits around on the drive gathering dust and rust. As it has tiny wheels everything is so close to the ground so even when stationary heavy rain will bounce back in to the gubbins. This is usually the brakes and more annoyingly the castle rings and ABS sensors. Every MOT it's the same thing with rusted ABS components and a shattered ABS castle ring (the bit that looks like crenellations). I think you do have to use the car to a certain extent to keep it going or it just seizes up (a bit like me). It's worth tuppence and yes... I massively overspend at every MOT!
Chevy Sonic here in the US, and actually built in the US in Lake Orion, MI. Sadly no longer available, but it was a decent car.
This made a lovely car when it was cleaned and made right mechanically.
After all the money invested in it, I hope it sells for your asking price Matt❤.
You wont have seen rarer than what i did at my local petrol station yesterday...a 1952 Citroen 2CV van, absolutely mint it was, didnt think they did a van.
it's a corsa if you look closer. not a daewoo. a corsa is a daewoo, an astra is a daewoo, it's a cruze with the z link with the same engines... i mean was, now it's stelantis, but you get the point.
I just wanted to let you know, I always, always pick up on every Partridgism... Keep it up 😂
Lovely stuff
People can have the wrong idea about low mileage older cars. They think that low mileage equals no wear. Not so. Age can deteriorate your car as much as mileage can.
My XJ is 11 years old with only 26000 Mike's on it. The supercharger nose cone spring return failed giving me an eye watering £1500 bill. It wasn't the mileage it was the age. Plastic parts don't age well. But if it had done 80-100,000 the spring return might still have been OK as I've heard of over 100,000 mile engines still running the same spring return as new.
The rubbers perish and things that need lubrication fail like shocks etc
You are totally right. Every part/component has their own lifetime and also every equipment&machine&car have their own calculate design life
My Mercedes AMG is the same age with 139,000 miles on it.
Its had every service. Its never had a fault unti this January when it needed a new suspension coil after whacking a massive pothole in a parking lot that I couldnt see as the rain we'v had disguised how deep the damn thing was.
Dont skip maintance and dont let your car sit in the drivway forever... and I find they tend to be fine.
You keep saying, "It's not a bad looking thing, is it?" When clearly it is a bad looking thing. Very bad looking...😆 Good episode, as ever... 👍
😂😂😂
better looking than a Corsa/Fiesta/Rio/110 though imo
Well I was surprised how good that little car looked I would have been happy with that for a first car 👍
Matt, Please do a WONDERGRIP walkaround.
This is the USA chav / thav. Tenement housed Vauxhall Corsa. They are all over the shop in south west Atlanta.
Mathew i would love to meet you, i really like this channel and iv been following you for a long old time now, but there's no way im driving up to Stockport just to meet my favorite youtuber for about 30 seconds then have to drive back home again 😂
Just by chance, i don't suppose you would be interested in my one year old lotus emira first edition? Its extremely well spec'd and i would do you personally a deal of a lifetime? Regards, John 👍
who ever sold you this done well.
My mother-in-law bought a new Spark in late 2013/early 2014. She still has it and it's been very reliable. I'd goes as far as to say surprisingly reliable. Don't know the miles now, but I'm sure it's quite high, as she used to do a lot of miles, and she tends to drive on the motorway in third gear. It's actually her second, because early on she was involved in quite a significant accident at a busy junction. And although she did sustain some injuries, they were related to sitting too close to the steering wheel. So, I think they're quite safe, too.
As this Aveo is essentially a Corsa, I'd expect it to be more reliable and more safe than the Spark. IMO, it's a perfect first car for a new driver, perfect second car for a two-car family, and would be perfect even as a car for a young family. With all that's been fixed, should only need regular servicing and tyres for the next five years.
Wonder Grip works brilliantly as that can hasn’t moved once.
I've been keeping my eye on these cars, a better spec corsa with low tax for less money
