Mcfarlane has done it again making the chase figure the one most collectors want and are stuck with the overproduced other one. I’m constantly disappointed that this has become the rule and not the exception. I will pass on the red one and hope to find the blue one at retail price not the EBay jacked up price.
I agree. But I buy half my figures with the intent of customization. Granted, it'd still be easier if it was already blue
He should have sticked to the artist proof platinums. I don't know what's the logic behind this, but I'm sure he would have sold more figures if he makes this platinum as regular releases just say months or a year apart.
Damn shame that the blue version is not a regular release. Especially when you consider it was only red for the final few issues of Knightsend.
The 90s were a wild time for comics. Batman was replaced by Azrael. Superman died and had 4 replacements (Eradicator being my favorite). Spidey was replaced by his clone Ben Reilly. And the X-Men had the Age of Apocalypse, a timeline where Magneto founded the X-Men instead of Xavier. Good times.
I always preferred the original version of the AzBats suit, the one introduced in Batman 500. But that doesn't mean im not getting these if i can find them, especially the blue variant.
I hate how good the chase figure looks. Like I’m not crazy about Azrael, but man that dark blue with dark gray looks so good.
Can always paint the red one blue.
Painting the roses Red😉 goofy we have to do that with the rarity of the blue one.
Can´t wait for the 90´s Superman Red and Blue.
I was thinking they can each be an Exclusive: Red for Target (since they´re always wanting red figures) and Blue for Walmart (so they can have their own Exclusive and since blue is their color anyways).
That being said:
1- I don´t want that because they´re Exclusive they´d be hard to find outside USA.
2- Even so that both are the same character, are drawn the same way (in fact, this would be the reason why they could make them as they can make use of the same mold) I want them to, besides overall be the same, still have some things or some details (for as small as they are/should be) that are still there to make them different somehow.

"Speaking of wings"... can´t wait for McFarlane to make a Pre-New 52 ZAURIEL (similar to others like him, for instance Killer Frost, that new design was awful and not needed at all since he was already cool in his original design) and also a BLEEZ.

Why can´t McFarlane nail the pictures with the name/depiction the character comes from? That´s why most of the time reviewers AND customers give him a hard time. And they´re not wrong and it is EASILY fixable. For instance, when he named Firestorm as Crisis on Infinite Earths yet the picture showed Ronnie from the beginning of the character solo series in The New 52. There, at the start, Ronnie and Jason each became a Firestorm. Ronnie being the red with just nuclear fire powers while Jason became the yellow one with the transmutation powers.
McFarlane should have called the Crisis on Infinite Earths either Classic and/or used one of the many pictures of Classic Firestorm. That regular version/original was a constant until the Fire Elemental version, later the New 52 when he split into 2 and later on in the same New 52 and after his costume lost the baggy arms and legs in favor a of sleek design (that I love/prefer) and can´t wait for McFarlane to do.
As for the Variant that one he should have called New 52 Ronnie...and could have even go beyond and make more profit by releasing the New 52 Jason/yellow version and changed the image for a proper one.
...and, if the cotume/depiction of the character is not exactly the same as it was modified for whatever reason then choose a picture of the costume/version the figure is based on and add the asterik with the note *ALTERED/MODIFIED. Like how I think Mongul was based on the New 52. Particularly since he chose the cover for his solo comic from Villains Month as the image for the package.
Again, something so easy to do, wouldn´t upset people.

I got my case today and got the Azrael variant and the Detective 27 variant. I was surprised and it made my day.
I think I'll wait & see if Mafex will make Jean Paul Valley in his KnightsEnd armor cause they did a better job with his Knightsfall armor

great comparison- i like the red one better coz it was after he got burned at the bridge and founght Nightwing - but the blue version looks good too tho Mckenner missed painting the shuriken connector to the gauntlets - cool review

I think this figure is one of those in which if you squint hard enough, you start to see the resemblance to the Knightquest/Knightsend design. I only say this since my nitpicky mind has me noticing how it's not 100% accurate to the design in some areas, but overall I guess it's not too bad.
Do you get figures early? I sometimes get figures from McFarlane early. Used to work for WB. Wrote for them/DC, while I was there. I was the first to get the Super Powers wave 4 Batman, because I really wanted it. So they sent me boxes of that, and WW (because wife got preg w/ a girl). How many do they give you? Did McFarlane approach you, or you talk to them? Just curious. Thanks for the vids. I will not be getting this figure. Just the other two in the set.
Today's Special reference! I got that! Yes I'm that old. Love the Batman Red and Batman Blue. I love that the 90s are getting serious representation in figure form. 90s long hair Aquaman is coming and so is Superman Blue!
if I'm able to get the platinum chase it's going to be hard to resist doing a leg/diaper swap on the original jpv Batman!

These look so great! I do hope we get normal Jean Paul Valley Azrael from his debut, him in the original batsuit and Bruce Wayne in the Ninja outfit he wore while training with Lady Shiva to round up a really awesome display
What a miss oportunity to put some articulation in the scalops, it would have made the figure so much better
The blue chase is still on my mind. But I don’t know if I’ll ever get to purchase him at a decent price.
Mcfarlane hates accuracy. Always gotta mess something up. That one's not supposed to have the leg pouches and it's only supposed to be one gauntlet connected to his back.
Not only that, but the helmet looks way off. It doesn't have the little red targeting light that's supposed to be above the right eye and the overall shape of it doesn't resemble the way it was drawn in the comics at all. Not to mention, I'm honestly not a fan of how overdesigned the "cape wings" look.
Those 2 are amazing! If I wasn't looking for speedsters right now I would get them

Mcfarlane sent them to a bunch of RUclipsrs early but I have heard that the pre orders could be shipping at the end of this month or the beginning of April

I’m glad I have the gold label Azbat because it’s going to be annoying trying to chase down the platinum. I did preorder 6 of this figure from GameStop with the hopes of getting an easy chase haha

I disagree on which shouldve been the chase. Mainly because the red represents a different sort of Azrael. When hes an antagonist. When hes in blue hes still mostly a good guy. So releasing the Blue version of his first costume as the first release, and the villain look as his second release works for me. With the chase being the weird in between time where he was more of an anti hero. I think most people think of his first costume when thinking of AzBats anyways.
question which is the original of these two blue or red i know the blue one came first since his original one is 1900 one that you compared between these two but which one would you consider the original one Azrael Red or Azrael Blue?
Do the hands pop out? Are the swappable?
How/where do we order the blue one? I've never once been able to get these "gold" or "platinum" label figures cause they never show up in stores or on amazon.

How does he bend forward with that chest armor potentially stabbing him on his stomach? 😂 I will have to repaint his armor with metallic paints
The only logical answer for the shortage on purpose (especially on the most wanted ones by making them platinum/ exklusive/ limited) can only be that the Toddfather is unofficially very active in the scalper-market himself, no other answer makes sense! So lookout for a "Mac Fartoddlane" (Wink-Smiley) at the scalper-market who is selling the Anne Hathaway Catwoman or the new blue Azbat for double, triple, quadruple the price: Brave New (extremely expensive if you can't resist) Todd(scalper)father World! Sad... P.S.: iMHO the Mattel ones from back in the day are still better (even nowadays they can give Rokkon from MOTU Origins the shiny metallic finish the Toddfather has economized on Steel: Shame!)
