I just love the ending to KnightsEnd. Batman finding a way to stop Azrael without a 90s action climatic fight. He realizes JPV is just a poor brainwashed kid and manages to save him. Also I have to mention that the Nightwing vs Azbats issue was the first comic I ever read, the event holds a special place in my heart for that reason
Nobody talks about this part of the story, superman can just "come back" but Bruce had to really train to gain back that mental and physical edge that makes him, truly, the one and only BATMAN.
So glad I’ve been part of your journey. I’m thankful that you got me to read Batman comics other than “The Killing Joke” and “The Dark Knight Returns”. Thanks to your videos, I love Batman way more than before and I finally found my favorite Batman comic. Hope your break is satisfying and I can’t wait for the videos you have in store for us when you come back.
I've been a Batman fan for as long as I can remember, but it was reading Knightfall and all of its subsequent chapters from cover to cover that really helped give me a deeper understanding and appreciation for the character
This really opened my eyes to elements of the Knightquest/Knightsend that a never considered before and gives me a whole new appreciation for these stories, I saw you also made the Prodigal and Trokia stories, whats the possibility that you'll also do a video on Azrael's Knightfall aftermath through the Azrael: Fallen Angel storyline?
Man, do I love Knightfall. Bit I love this finale even more. Current Batman fans, who want him to be a savage and moralless asshole, would be scared to see him trying to calm Jean-Paul down.
in the last 2 weeks i have recovered all your videos. I was blown away by the care and passion you put into every single video. a passion that I rarely see among bat fans (at least in Italy, where I live). you were the first one who has the same thoughts as me on the work of frank miller and the 2 burton’s films i would just like to say THANK YOU and please continue with this plan. they are my venom. I can't wait for the next videos
Great conclusion video to a great story arc! KnightsEnd really wraps everything up perfectly. I love how Bruce manages to defeat Azrael non-violently with his wits, in a massive contrast to what Azrael himself did as Batman. And yet, Bruce can’t find it in himself to blame Jean-Paul, knowing that he himself is partially at fault and knowing that JPV was bound by the System. Great stuff!
So why do people say that Alfred resigning in Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is out of character when it was literally taken out of the pages on Knightfall?
I do hope you'll pick up with the Batman stories that were published after the nightfall story.... You're doing such a fantastic job just keep on going
I was a Batman fan in the 90s when this was the main storyline but I forgot it was called KnightFall, KnightQuest, & KnightsEnd, I haven't read a comic since 1997 when I was still in High School. But this weekend we found my old box of comics I forgot I still had. I have every issue of all three sagas including the complete year prior and the prodigal storyline that ended the actual story. But I must have stopped around that time since it was only sporadic issues I have after that. I also just found out I can go back and read all of the issues from 97 up until now so I should have a ton of reading to catch up on. Your Channel has rekindled my love for Batman and his mythos. Thank you Sal!!!!
congratulations!!! i´m so happy to join this journey. and to see how your channel has growing, i´m glad to see all of the comments. Your work since de golden age has been incredible and deserves to be recognized. Keep going, i will always be looking for the new videos and sharing. cheers!
My comment is a million years late, but I just wanted to comment that I am a fellow batman fan who became a fan through the 90s animated show and all the movies that came out back then. I didn't venture much into American comics back then (was much more into Manga since... well.. we can all agree most manga have much more linear storylines and character arcs than the average American comic). So when the Bale batman movies came out I knew of the comic inspirations but only bought Batman Year one before One More Day happened and a marvel editor was so pissed they nuked a comic community I had been a part of and really helped ease me into the tangled mess. Long story short, I adored Batman Begins, loved Dark Knight, and DESPISED Dark Knight Rises. It colored by perception of the Knightfall storyline for years, and given that most people focus on Batman being broken and how much azreal sucked when summarizing the plot--- basically... I really perceived it as edgy 90's bull crap. But now I know that Dark Knight Rises betrayed a number of the themes and character arcs that were in the original material. The idea that Bruce just stopped being batman for 8-9 years, randomly picked it back up, did the adam west routine with a cartoonish bomb over his head, and then ran away just felt so **off** from the Bruce Bale had been playing and just everything I adore about Bruce Wayne as a character at his core. Bruce always felt like this representation of finding coping mechanisms w/ grief, trauma, and mental illness that may seem weird to other people but help the wordl-- because "normal life" doesn't stick for everyone. HONESTLY it's kind of like closure for me. I'm really glad I started binging so many comic book lore channels recently.
I will read Knightsend soon. This was a great series, Sal! I am looking forward to more Legends Of The Dark Knight as that is my favorite Batman title.
Just saw this. Awesome video. I wish they would finally do animated films of these stories. Knightfall itself should be a two part film like dark knight returns
And that was satisfying. I hope you enjoy your break dude and I look forward to the future videos you do even if they are not in chronological order of Batman comics as you've been doing. I like how you do your work even when you change it up
Hi, I enjoy your content very much and wanted to use the opportunity to say a few appreciative words + ask whether you will ever do a video on Shadow of the Bat #5-15 which you skipped in your chronological coverage of pretty much every other Batman issue from Crisis to Knightsend? Best wishes
Amazing video, I've always been a big fan of batman comics and batman in general, but not many people that cover comic stories go back to the 80's/90's, personally I those comics always looked really cool. I've only been a subscriber for a month or two but I can already tell this one of if not my favourite RUclips channel, can't wait to see what stories you cover next. P.S. since you have been cover the robin stories, do u think u will cover any of the nightwing comic?
I would love to, but the RUclips algorithm won't be happy about it. I will try to make some Nightwing content, but probably not as much as I would like to. Thanks for the comment!
I liked that Bruce didn't just solve things by beating the lights out of Jean Paul and could see that he was a guy who was struggling with his brainwashing and it wasn't really his fault. So he helped him instead of Punishing him
Azrael feels like a mix of Moon Knight and the Winter Soldier. A schizophrenic, violent and brutal creature of the night with a subliminal programming which turns him into the ultimate assasin.
This is the Batman trilogy that needs to be made into 3 movies. You get Robin, Nightwing as well as great stories. WB would probably find a way to screw it up though. That is what they do.
As Owen said in his video I think knightfall was supposed to be a mild commentary on how the typical hero was in the 90's. I think the death of superman can be looked at in the same way. I think overall DC was basically showing it's readers what makes their characters so enduring and why they've aged far better than crap like Gen 13 and Youngblood.
I just read Knightsend, here are my thoughts: An enjoyable conclusion to the Knightfall trilogy with great action and drama for the most part, but, not without its flaws; the Catwoman stuff felt forced and didn't really progress the story forward, and felt like she was only there to coincide with every Bat-titile that was published at the time, and there was also a random cyborg enemy that mirrors Image-ness who didn't really need to be in the story. Other than that, this was a great chapter/conclusion in the Knightfall trilogy.
Are you going to talk about other superheroes or other stuff in general, out of curiosity. Maybe it is a good time for a break, since the Contagion story is probably coming soon after Prodigal and Troika, and while that's a pretty solid Batman story and a fun read, maybe not the best one to talk about or read right now? I don't know. At what point do you feel you stopped getting as much enjoyment out of the Batman stories and you feel like the writers had forgotten the true essence of the Batman character?
That happened in the early 2000s when they changed creative teams and editors. The new people didn't really understood Batman. Also, I'm not gonna switch away from Batman. That would be a big risk for this channel.
@@SalazarKnight oh I do agree. Funny thing is, nostalgia has nothing to do with it. I got into the comics pretty late despite being familiar with the Batman overall thanks to BTAS and The movies and I still hold the O'Neil editorial Era as the best and richest Bat comics, warts and all...
My least favorite parts of Knight's End are the parts where Nightwing is easily dispatched by Shiva and Azrael. It always boils my blood to see Dick Grayson's skill level depicted as relatively middling. I think he should be second only to the Batman and then, only by a hair. And at some point, he should become his mentor's equal or even superior. After all, there's no better martial arts instructor than Batman himself.
I just realized that Bruce waiting for Azbats in the manor is a mirror of Bane waiting for Bruce.
I just love the ending to KnightsEnd. Batman finding a way to stop Azrael without a 90s action climatic fight. He realizes JPV is just a poor brainwashed kid and manages to save him. Exactly because he is not god not should he be
Except that is not what happens with Superman. Clark has to struggle powerless and armed to take down Hank and Mongul.
No matter what you decide for the future of the channel. I trust your decision and I'm in
And that means the world to me!
I think the bat family was shattered in 1984 when Dick quit being Robin and the bat family was finally reunited in 1994 during knightsend.
That is probably the best description of the bat family
And then was shattered again with death of the family

I love Knightfall its such a good batman comic with the 1970's suit!
tbh this part of the story don't even seem that bad. I heard it kinda falls off in the later parts but I really like Bruce's character arc.
I love all of the knight fall saga.

Thank you for the Knightfall retrospective, Salazar. Well done! 🦇👍🏻
I agree, Knightfall is and has been my favorite Batman story.
The Azrael comic that comes after this is really good. Jean Paul's arc is really well-done.
So why do people say that Alfred resigning in Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is out of character when it was literally taken out of the pages on Knightfall?
It never felt out of character to me tbh.
