    No other type of sailing vessel could give you that much bang for the buck!

      only for speed but not comfort

      @@kwader_1404 True, at least this proa, there is bigger ones that are pretty comfortable, but for me.. comfort makes me feel dead, like I'm not alive. I want to fly close to the water, feel it splashing, be cold, feel the wind on my face, be alive. But I understand the need for comfort. Awesome video :)

    Great Proa!!!! Did you pretreat bamboo (borax) before use it or just let it dry?

    • @Thomas_de_Meijer
      @Thomas_de_Meijer  4 года назад +1

      Just let it dry. But the spars are rotted away now, I didn't store them properly. I have a bamboo windsurf mast that's over 15 years old, always stored in the garage. Untreated.

    How many pounds does everything weigh?

    looks great! what software did you use to create the steadycam effect? whatever it is it works really well!

    Are the sail tubes (yard & boom) bamboo too?

    • @Thomas_de_Meijer
      @Thomas_de_Meijer  4 года назад +2

      The yard is mostly windsurfer mast with a small bamboo extension. The boom is bamboo.

    you might be able to get away w/o any leeboard at all if you made your bows more plumb and your hulls more asymmetric.

    • @Thomas_de_Meijer
      @Thomas_de_Meijer  5 лет назад +2

      Check my latest video, it's the same boat but with an asymmetric hull and no Lee board. I used to think so about the plumb bows, but I now think more rocker would be better for balancing the sail pressure.

    • @VigilanceTech
      @VigilanceTech 5 лет назад

      Why can't you have both plumb bows and more rocker?
      I know that more rocker will make it a little less stable yaw wise.
      The plumber the bows the higher it should point and the greater the lateral resistance (together with the asymmetry).
      One could probably even do reverse bows (where it is longer on the bilge than on the deck).
      We really probably need to get this all programmed up into some hydrodynamics CAD program to see exactly how these different things affect it.

      @@VigilanceTech Without some very advanced CFD you really can't predict the behaviour. The centre of pressure on a hull like this is very far forward, around 25%. This makes it really hard to put a big sail on the boat, as it will be too far back. But the asymmetry does help a lot with this.

    is this one of Gary's designs?

    • @Thomas_de_Meijer
      @Thomas_de_Meijer  7 лет назад

      jadekayak01 Its my own design, similar to a scaled down wa'apa. More info if you follow the link in the description

      OK,cheers.
      looks a lot like the wa apa.
      I've though if building one but I'm off to SI for an adventure.
