The tie or knot at the top if you want to wear a waist synch or bodice the 'respectable' way. The knot or tie on the bottom was reserved for Street works and red Light employment-as it was easier to loosen the bodice and allow access to the chest without having to untie or unlace it completely.
Corsets don’t restrict your ability to move and be comfortable unless you wear it wrong, great Disney bound btw I’ll have to add it to my ideas if get to go to Disney ever again
I literally use my corset as a spine brace. It's amazing and makes all-day events possible after a spine injury. Edit because folks with scoliosis or other spine issues literally can be prescribed medical corsets. Which I neglected to mention.
@@lovinavargas-carriedo2698 that sounds quite practical as someone with back pain I can barely bend over to pick something up without feeling some kind of pain or discomfort, once I get a new corset I’ll have to consider that option
@@lovinavargas-carriedo2698 I've been wanting to get one for back support, but don't know where I can go that is legit. May I ask where you got yours?
@@genera1013 hey! So the one I use is from a company called "damsel in this dress" which is both an amazing name and a legitimately amazing corset. When you tie your corset closed, you don't want it to be too tight; the ends should not meet and thee should be about a plam-width gap between them where it ties closed. I also fully do NOT tie it closed at my hips because it puts painful pressure. So I just leave the bindings closed until just above my hips. The cool part is you can adjust the pressure with the ties to be more or less and how it's tied adjusts pressure on spots that could cause pain!
@@Ghv5t ooof! I would also fully recommend seeing if ohysical therapy and a new mattress are options. Genuinely, getting a new mattress kept me from having the worst of my flare ups! When I flare up I am in the same boat as you or have to go to the hospital since I'm effectively paralyzed from the waist down. 🙃🙃 Physical therapy and a chiropractor genuinely helped me learn ways to cope with the pain and build strength in muscles and body mechanics that make me hurt myself less by existing.
For an actual corset, you tie it in the middle, but if it's a fashion corset, I prefer to tie it at the top. Cute Disney bound though! Very true to the character!
Really nice Disney bound! That top really sells it! Also, if you have had problems wearing corsets/stays, there’s probably something wrong! Corsets should not restrict your movement or hurt you, if they do you are probably not wearing the right size or you adjusted it too much! The best course of action for getting a corset is getting one specifically fitted to you.
Pro corsets here: technically they still restrict certain movements by design, such as forcing you to have better posture and not slump. But all kinds of things can be done if you adjust how you as used to moving slightly. They were used as bras for a reason, but just with modern bras they take some getting used to and that’s okay.
When you said you were doing an Esmeralda I thought that it was going to not at all give me the right vibes. Like, you told me you're going for Esmeralda, but I thought that would be the only reason I would know who it was supposed to be Literally the perfect Esmeralda. I don't know how you did it, but you are legitimately Esmeralda
Corsets aren’t supposed to be restrictive, either! If they’re worn right, they should fit comfortably and be very supportive. Working women wore them for centuries!
You look AmAzInG.!!! This video popped up on my random scrolling RUclips Shorts and I HAAAAD to peak at the rest of your content.... LOVE your stuff.!!!
Historically corsets were essentially bras. They were worn for support, no restriction at all. Tight lacing is a much more recent practice. The pigeon breasted shape that you seen in photos of Victorian women was created with padding. Victorian women padded their bras.
i have that corset belt thing in black, it can be worn either way but i prefer to wear it with the tie at the bottom. just whatever you think looks best/is the most comfortable :) lovely outfit, by the way!
You looks beautiful, but you need one more thing for this outfit to be perfect! Esmeralda has a sash she ties around her waist! It would be perfect if you had one with a pattern on it. This outfit is all solid colored pieces. Something with a pattern would add an extra layer of interest! 💖
Omg, I have the same corset belt in white, black, and brown and they are so comfortable. I prefer it bow down but there's no right or wrong way. Just whatever you prefer
I love that outfit and if I were to wear it I would probably do a different shirt or a shirt like that which has parts that hold it in place so it doesn't slip
Most back lacing corsets "tie" in the center. Front lacing bodices typically lace upwards and would be pinned at the top. Modern standards typically lace downward, so bottom tie. But if you really want to get technical women's garments standardly place buttons on the left side (snap bases on the left, right side overlaps). Or the narrowest point, points upwards.
I’m a Romani gypsy person and initially thought “ugh here we go” but it didn’t read as disrespectful or culturally insensitive at all, you look gorgeous.
Tie the knot at the top. But if you ever wear an actual boned corset the knot should be centred around the middle of your back. It makes it easier to adjust and to tighten it as much as desired in an evenly distributed pressure around your torso.
This is ADORABLE. The only thing I'd change is the length. Make it knee length and it's perfect. Not only would I be more comfortable with a little more modesty, but especially a park like Disney, there are people from all over the world, many cultures much more modest than Americans and I wouldn't want to be offensive to them either
That's where I got that name! Ever since I was little I also just had the name Esmeralda is my mind and I couldn't figure out where I got it from. I got it from that movie! I can't spell the last word of the movie title sob.
2 things. Thing 1, a well made, properly fitted corset shouldnt be restrictive or uncomforitable to wear at all. All women, from the highest of society to the lowest class working women wore corsets. Tight lacing was not a common practice. The best way i can describe tight laceing is its modern equivelant is wearing new heels for a party. Thing 2, the outfit is cute. Id wanna be a bit more covered for the park but its cute.
Okay, I didn't make this up so no one get mad at me. Historically, when being "respectable" you lace down. When being "promiscuous" you'd lace up. Hope that helps!
My mom was going to be Esmeralda for the Disney character costume thingy cus she looked like her but she wanted do do but she said no but I think it’s cool
It goes at the top. Ideally it laces at the back. Really, a chain bag on your skin in 90° temps. Good luck with that. A backpack with some pants will serve you well. The short skirtmay not pass muster for park appropriateness.
Adorable, I love Esmeralda too! My husband and I just watched that movie!!! ❤ I hope you're wearing proper shorts underneath. Lol And that the top won't be coming down any further. It's just barely acceptable in a way that isn't skimpy. 😁 If I had the body I'd wear it for sure...but I have to say if you were more full chested it would be inappropriate for sure. I guess at that point a better top. Also the material is probably toxic. 😵💫
I got so tired of trying to figure out where to put the bow for my belt that I just tied it and shoved the extra ribbon in the part that touched my body so that it's just a uniform lace down the front and the extra is hidden.
Corsets aren't restricting. They're undergarments that were worn, in different styles, by both men and women, for centuries. They are the predecessor to bras. The only time they were restricting is when worn incorrectly or tightlaced, which is subjectively incorrect as well. -someone who has worn boned corsets, bodices, and stays from age 6
Corsets shouldn't be restrictive. Do some research on them and you might start adding them to your wardrobe. They were worn by everyone including the working women who needed a lot of freedom of movement.
@@ThatDisneyGirl yeah, I wouldn't think that a lot of the ones available now are as comfortable as the ones they made 150 years ago. Especially the decorative ones worn on the outside. And none would be as comfortable as a t-shirt. They are support wear. It is just that movies and such give the impression that corsets were these horrible contraptions that stopped women from breathing and they weren't like that at all.
Who is Esmarelda??? I think I'm the only one who doesn't know 😂. Is she the gypsy from the humpback of notré dom? Or possibly someone from the road to eldorado???
