- This is a recording of our life Sketchbook Kaigi demo on Friday, January 20th at 12 pm Pacific Time on Developing Your Daily Art Habit with April Wu!
April is a stationery enthusiast, urban sketcher, and host of [@thestationerycafe](www.instagram.... in Seattle, WA. She enjoys capturing her daily life through journaling and sketches in colorful ways.
During the sketchbook kaigi, April shared her lineup of sketchbooks and journals that she plans to use for 2023! April talked about her sketchbook practice and inspiration for you to develop daily art habits, from taking just 10-15 minutes to doodle about your day to food journaling and documenting your travels. In Japanese, a “kaigi” means a meeting or discussion and is an endearing term used by the stationery and journaling community to describe the process of reviewing and deciding on the notebooks we’d like to utilize for the new year.
We hope you enjoyed this demo!

I LOVE the idea of putting a paper towel over a writing board, both under the pocket palette, held onto the TN by a clip. That's brilliant!
THis was so delightful. I love all of these presentations. This was just full of JOY. THank you Maria. Thank you April
We are so glad to hear it! April was a joy to have, we can't wait to have her back already! Thank you for watching!
It would be neat to see her again in 2024 to see what she did over the year. Thank you for sharing!
What a great idea! Maybe we can get something in the works!
I really enjoy April’s presentations. Combo of journaling, ArtToolkit, watercolor, stationery is my happy place too. Thank you Maria!
We're so glad you enjoyed this demo! It's our happy place too :)
Thank you Art Toolkit for introducing us to April. April, thank you for sharing your art and methodology with us.
Thank you so much for joining us! We're so glad we got to sit and chat with April about sketchbook kaigi and journaling :)
I never had any interest in getting a Hobonichi… until now. That looks like a fun way to keep yourself accountable! I will definitely get one next year!! Thanks for that idea!
Wow. LOVE the TWSBI Eco converted to a fude nib. I love sketching with mine, but I'd love to bring a second pen that was not the standard sailor. Thanks for the idea!
What a great interview. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching!
Hello there looking forward to your video just found this channel I am hoping that you folks will give me the confidence to dive into all the journals that I have purchased over the years and actually paint something or write something in them I seem to have a fear of that even though I paint all the time thank you for addressing that if you would not mind God bless you
Hi there! Getting started is the hardest part, it's something a lot of artist's struggle with. We hope this video helped to inspire you, and we're glad you're here!
Thanks for the inspiration !!!
This was great, thank you ❤
So glad you enjoyed it! Happy journaling :)
So inspiring! April, would you consider using only one side of each studio work page? Like if you ever wanted to exhibit your work!!! Also in your little palette what colors do you use? Two yellows, a gray, a purple..?
Hi from Brussels ❤
Very interesting!
I was wondering where April finds Hobinichi without lined pages. All the ones I see have lots of line.
Etsy has lots of unlined inserts for notebooks, including some in watercolor paper
Could you put the nib grinder references here? I can’t seem to find them again!
We added the link to the description!
Looks right side up to me
