    The best part about the Jayce and Vi raid, is that it's probably the most hyped up fight scene, but it's done specifically to lure you into the same mindset as Jayce, so you can be shell-shocked by the child murder.

    Love the post-discussion!
    Ok so a couple thoughts:
    1. I agree that Sky was a life sacrifice and her life force is why the hex core evolved into what it is now. It took her life force, which is dark magic and thus corrupted it.
    2. Victor is a scientist but Victor is reckless and no one ever calls him on it, but they show it is his defining trait. Think on every scene of his. We empathize with his sickness and we think that is what drives him but he was like this as a child, with the boat where he put it in a stream moving faster than he possibly could. He showed it in breaking into get Jase’s experiment. Jase asks if he thinks it’s safe and Victor says “of course not!” We laugh but he’s serious. He tinkers with Jinx’s grenade before absolutely knowing he could disarm it. He takes a shimmer variant, has success, sees he’s only got a corner left in the vial and doesn’t stop to figure out how to get more, he just bulls ahead despite prior evidence of the danger in doing so.
    I like Victor but his flaw is his reckless nature which is underpinned by hubris. He wants to be remembered as having done something great.

    I think what's funny is that I've seen lots of people be like "You can't just storm in there!" during the council meeting, but as soon as Vi suggests it, they're all in agreement with her. Attachment to a character really changes people's viewpoints.
    I'd like to point out another thing regarding Vi's words in the courtroom, but in the next episode as the context there is necessary

    • @InstantSilence

      I agree. With the context of episode 9, Vi looks really bad in that scene in hindsight. Personally, I didn't like Jayce and Vi all that much (they're well-written characters, I just disagreed with them a lot). They're good intentioned, but they're so hot-blooded and rash that they make really bad decisions.

    Viktor's assistant is called Skye, and that's the name of the girl from the undercity that was watching him make his boat before going back to play with other kids.
    Personally I think she saved his life by sacrificing herself because he didn't have Schimmer this time, and the experiment clearly wasn't going well.

  • @LogicUnpublishable

    "There are bigger fish than Silco". This is followed immediately by the scene cutting to us seeing Ambessa Medarda (Mel's mom) show up in Piltover. We then see later in the episode that she has designs to encourage the production of Hextech weaponry, and to be a warmonger.
    Piltover is essentially a city state so it's pretty small on the global scale despite its advanced technology. The way I interpret that line is that there are greater forces outside of it that have been closely following the development of shimmer/hextech, that have a lot more influence and might than what Piltover can bring to bear. We know that Silco has been exporting Shimmer through the Hexgates from back in episode 4, so we know that there are people/forces outside of Piltover that are interested and maybe invested in his operation. Whether that is referring to Noxus which is where the Medardas are from, or perhaps the man that Mel's brother crossed, or someone else entirely is unclear. Regardless, I don't think that Finn was talking about himself or the rest of the Chem-barons when he refers to there being bigger fish than Silco. He's talking about forces outside the borders of Piltover, which I think is supported narratively by the immediate introduction of Ambessa Medarda as an external force with ulterior motives towards the technology being developed inside Piltover.

    • @victorleon67
      @victorleon67 5 месяцев назад +2

      There are a bunch of references to Swain in these episodes, especially the crows watching everything. There is reason to believe he is the wrong man the Medardas have crossed, and if the crows mean anything, then Swain knows what is going on with hextec and shimmer. I don't know if Finn was referring especifically to him, but Swain is definitely a bigger fish than Silco, and there's a good chance we see him show up in S2

Your comment on how the war would look like their battle at the end of the episode is exactly what the show was going for. Jayce is a naive, but right hearted dude that is trying his best. "How many people are you willing to lose?" "Nobody wins in war" The show is great, character writing top tier.

    I was thinking about how Vi said you can't negotiate with Silco. That was more true when she knew him, back before she got locked up for a couple years. He didn't like Vander making deals with the Enforcers but ended up doing that himself once he took over. Granted, he has been resistant to making a deal to hand over the hex crystal.

    • @gizel4376
      @gizel4376 5 месяцев назад +1

      it was never about the deal, it was about the humiliating condition of the deal, Vander wanted to protect the little they had, Silco is ready to burn the little they have to end up with what they deserve

    • @xUNLUCKYxSEVENx
      @xUNLUCKYxSEVENx 5 месяцев назад +1

      @gizel4376 that's a problem too though, Vander was ok with keeping the status quo, as long as nobody got hurt, and as we've seen in real life, sometimes you do have to fight for your indepencence, even if it comes at the cost of some lives in order for things to change for the better. Although Silcos method was dark, he was doing it so the next generation could have a better life, none of the things he was doing were out of selfishness, until he started having to protect jinx from all the problems she was causing. Silco is actually a lot like Mel's mom, in that he was willing to do whatever it took for his people to have a future, his only problem was jinx making him weak and not letting him make the necessary decisions, maybe he should've just casted her away lol

    I absolutely love your analysis of Jayce, Mel, and Victor! Everyone loves the writing of Vi & Jinx (I definitely do too), but there's something I'm so fascinated by with those other three & how subtle or realistic their flaws are and how they dictate their decisions.
    I'm glad you guys understand Jayce- I heard before I watched this show that Jayce is disliked by a lot of people. But I actually love his character because I honestly sympathize with him & his goals to try and please everyone without truly knowing the best plan forward. I think people just hate him because he makes mistakes, even though that's the point of his whole arc this season. He's a good person but also a privileged scientist thrust into a position he doesn't have the personality or experience for. So of course he's gonna make mistakes. It's not until he sees the full picture with Vi in this episode that he's truly able to form his own opinions, rather than have other politicians influence him.

  • @Drake844221

    I love that the show creators were willing to finally give fans the big battle that they've been wanting for so much of the show... and then completely take away the satisfaction of it by having the kid die at the end of it. Yes, the battles are glorious, but they come with a very high, human cost. Not just helmeted enforcers, not just shimmer monsters... but bystanders. On top of that, for these kids working here, the enforcers aren't the grand, gleaming heroes that Jayce sees himself as in his drawing. They are the jackbooted thugs coming in to steal away the one way these kids have of helping to support their families and put food on the table. They don't see Silco as the bad guy for employing them at his literal drug factory, he's the hero for giving them something they can do to live a better life than they would have otherwise. They're people who, on the whole, have next to nothing, and here are the enforcers coming to take away what minute amount that they do have. It is an evil thing that Silco did to employ children at the shimmer factories... and diabolically brilliant as a "public relations" chess maneuver.

    Very perceptive review! Not many reactors follow along the way you do.
    Mel is a fascinating character because she appears to undergo a heel-face turn, but in fact she doesn't - we just get to see her motivations and beliefs more clearly.
    Jayce is a great character too - handsome, charming, idealistic and smart (but not brilliant in the way Jinx and Victor is) but he's *weak*, very naive and swayed by every wind that blows on him.
    Sevika is interesting too - she's loyal to the *cause*, not to any individual, and turned on Vander when she felt he was weak.

    How do you compare the quality of Arcane to Frieren?
    For me, those (and maybe Andor) are the only 10/10 shows in the last few years.

      nothing, i saw an interview with the show runner Christian Linke and he said they wanted a different subplot that was discarded during the production and they forgot to remove that line but you can safely ignore it, it means nothing
      it's the same thing as "the boy savior", there was a planned scene where the young Ekko wants to save Powder from Silco but fails and that's why Jinx calls him "boy savior" because she knew about that rescure plan... but the scene was discarded and the line remained, all of these little inconsistencies are talked about by the creators

      @@fixpontt I mean season 2 is coming now they have very good chance to correct these inconsistencies into plot, that's what my comment was referring to (maybe in season 2 they will introduce a bigger fish from Zaun)
