The thing with Elizabeth and Jason is that they are "the one" for each other. They never broke up because they didn't love each other. It was always something else pulling them apart. Their song "Ours to Keep" says exactly that. The moved on and yes did love other people but they will always be in love with each other. Even years later in episodes Jason had said "you know how I feel about you" or "if anything happened to you I couldn't take it". In their scenes there is so much emotion and he is always finding a way to touch her. Jason isn't like that with Sam.

We have Jason and Sam fans and Liz and Jason fans. And I think they aren't meant to be. If you love someone that much, you let nothing coming in between you. I know Jason loves Liz but he was in love with Sam. When he wasn't with Sam he went to Liz. Before Sam was in the picture Jason was never truly with Liz. When he was with Courtney Liz hated it. She was so jealous. So before people go talking bad about Sam all the time remember Jason could have chose to be with Liz years ago but he did not. The relationship just had to be kept secret is all, for very understandable reasons. Real life celebrities do it all the time where they keep their love life extremely private and no one (the media) knows about it. Their secret relationships are still viewed as official relationships. Just because they don't tell the media or the public that they are in a relationship doesn't mean they aren't in one. Had Jason not lived the life he lived with being in the mob, they definitely would've had no problem going public about their relationship.
