Great job explaining the process! You went slow enough that I didn't have to rewind the video many times over. Keep posting fix it videos for us amateurs.
The OEM igniter for my kenmore oven was $116. Bought a cheap one from amazon. Worked fine for a few months but eventually developed a problem where the glow was slightly delayed and caused a bit of gas to build up in the oven. Once it finally glew, the oven would burst due to the buildup of gas, causing the door to open! Bought the OEM igniter and it solved the problem. I do not recommend cheap aftermarket igniters based on my experience and research.
I have been using mine for about three years now since I made the video and it's been working great. Apparently it depends on the specific oven you have. Glad to hear you were able to get yours working right!
This is the best video I've seen out there about how to, especially the clarity on seeing how exactly were to cut take apart and put back together thanks for the video just encountered this problem.
Picked up the igniter from Amazon for about $100 less than the manufacturer. Your video was so helpful. I installed it today and the oven is working great. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. My igniter came with the same quick connect as the original so no stripping necessary. The part was around 60$, but beats buying a new oven.
This is the best video walkthrough on how to do this. I ordered the part with the connector so didn't have to clip anything. Also might want to get some more shrink tubing (grey rubber around terminal because my original was destroyed. End up finding some though at Walmart. So for less than $50 fixed my own oven. Thank you, thank you, thank you kind sir.
This was so helpful! Thank you posting! The other videos did not include the part about taking out the warming drawer - a critical piece of information.
Thanks for posting this. You definitely saved me time, money and a headache! I even lucked out because my model is slightly different than the one in the video. It came with a quick connect so I didn't even need to strip wire or anything like that. You're the man Bruce!
Mine also slightly different. Don't take out pan below burner. Remove storage drawer to reach igniter connector (Paring knife or small standard screwdriver to release connector lock.) Remove one screw front and one screw back attaching burner. Igniter comes out with burner. Install new igniter to burner. Reinstall burner (look through storage drawer opening to ensure that burner sets properly on gas jet.) and reinstall two screws that mount burner. Connect igniter by reaching through storage drawer opening. Reinstall first two pans (deflector and oven bottom) with the screws for each that were removed. Problem of forever preheat solved. Wife happy. Total time 20 minutes (due to differences) Thank you for the video!!!
A bit more information Ordered from Sears PartsDirect. A bit more pricey at $116.41, $138.63 with rates and shipping. But...made in USA, same high temperature insulation on leads, and exact same connector. Painless installation. Have been through cheap Chinese imitations before and choose not to go through the waste of time, money, and pain.
Our igniter recently went out, but it was still covered under warranty. But after seeing how easily the repairman installed it, I thought "heck, I could have done that myself"! I bookmarked your video for future reference!

Thank you for your help. The igniter I ordered came ready to be connected and didn’t have to do the wire cutting and reconnecting. Unfortunately after connecting everything still nothing works. What do you think I should do next ? The top burners are all working except the oven and the broiler
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. This did help our situation but it didn't completely cure the problem for us. I ordered a new temperature sensor and will be making a video of that replacement when I get the chance. I did measure the ohms of the temp sensor that's in the oven and it measured in the range it is supposed to. I have read that it could still be faulty so I decided to replace it too. A new temp sensor was only about $15 at amazon. If that doesn't completely fix the issue I'm thinking my problem is in the circuit board and if that's the case I'll have to see what they cost. It might be time for a new range depending on what they run. Hopefully yours will just be the ignitor and you'll be done. From what I've read, most of the time replacing the ignitor cures the problem. Good luck with your project!
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 SUCCESS !!! I installed a new igniter off Amazon, with taxes and next day shipping it only cost me $30 This video came in handy and saved me big bucks ! Thanks again 🙏

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 as suggested we ordered the part from Amazon, our Kenmore is 16 years old and a little different but we were able to get it done in less than 20 minutes!! We have been out of bread all week because I couldnt bake lol!!
You're AWESOME!!!! Great video. I didn't need to do that wire cutting thing because my new igniter looked just like the old one. But IT WORKS!!! I'm so happy. Thank you.
Great Video. Did you have an upper and lower burner with an igniter for each? Maybe just a lower burner? Likely a similar solution for both I would assume?
*Update: It worked! My Kenmore oven was a little different to take apart; had to remove a couple floor panels, and then had to slide out and remove the warmer drawer to access the wiring. Luckily it was just a single clip, but it sure wasn't that easy to reach! I used a pair of long hemostats to hold the connector on the inside of the oven, because it didn't have much slack at all and I was worried I'd lose it. Luckily it clipped right in. Re-assembled and the oven fired right up! The old igniter certainly looked pretty worn out--I don't think it lasted more than 5 years.* OK so for a while I would get shorts and trip the circuit breaker when I would use the oven; not always, but some times. Over the past few days, oven was acting weird-- it would take forever to get to the right temperature. Just now-- I was going to bake a couple potatoes; I set it at 450-- an hour later, I realize, nothing at all! It's not heating whatsoever. My landlord is frustratingly useless so I think I have to tackle this myself. Thanks for the video, it looks pretty straightforward-- I always worry a little messing with gas appliances but I think I can handle this repair. I just hope that this is indeed the problem, and not a temperature sensor, or something else that's going to send me on a wild goose chase. But considering the symptoms I described, the electrical shorts and the eventual failure to ignite completely, I think there's a very good chance the igniter is the issue. I'll report back after I swap the part!
Just replaced mine. Wasn’t able to get to the actual igniter connector in my model so had to cut and strip the wires in place. Wire nuts didn’t want to grab at first so tried shortening the ends and that seemed to work. Also one of the screws holding the igniter in place had some bad threads so had to fight with that a while. Also it was handy to know that there’s a nut on the opposite side of the shut off valve that needs to be loosened before you try to shut off the gas. Edit: forgot to mention that the new part had a double-sided mounting plate so it could be mounted on the left or right side. Which meant I had to carefully bend down the one I wasn’t using so as not to break the fragile igniter. Other than that a piece of cake! Thanks, the oven seems to be working perfectly now.
Thanks for the help. Just wondering why you used the old wires instead of the new. My replacement ignitor wires were plenty long enough to use without attaching the old ones. Just a preference?
My new igniter had no connectors on the wires. I'm not concerned about old or new wires. I just need them to be a suitable length with the proper connectors on the ends.
Thank you for the video. Good explanations and direct to the point. I liked and subbed. Its funny. I bought a similar part for under 20. Talked to 2-3 other people and the one neighbor says - just buy a new stove/oven. Well, he's probably sitting on a million unless his kids got most of it. I can't afford to think every time something goes down I will just buy a new one. If he wants to live like the million dollar man he is he should move to a neighborhood like that. This isn't that place. Its a throw-away culture and society and I think we will pay the price long-term for being that way. I always try to fix everything I possibly can.
Hello Sir. I like to follow your appliance repair videos. I have a question for you. Is the gas kenmore oven used the same igniters for bake and boil or used different igniter? Please let me know so I can order the igniter for my oven. Both bake and boil don't work.
I disconnected the old wires mainly to make it easier to show on video rather than trying to film inside the oven. It’s not a necessary step especially if you’re not trying to film it. Good point!
I don't know if you have to use wire connectors but you'll have to find a way to connect the new wires with the old wires. My new igniter came with ceramic (heat resistant) wire connectors to use in the replacement.
Please, what if there is a rusty corrosion on the gas tube at the igniter? Should that be replaced, as well? It's right at the igniter on tube. Igniter has greenish corrosion on metal outer part too. Thanks.
Hi! I see you gave a part number and link in description for the range burner igniter. how does one figure out the part number on the range igniter? Is the number listed somewhere on the old part? Haven't had a need to replace mine yet, but your video came up and was just curious. Thanks in advance!
I looked mine up in the stove manual. I typed that number into a search on Amazon and several popped up. I just picked the cheapest one and it worked fine so far. I think most of them are universal but I suppose there are a few that aren't. Or just type in the name and model of your stove with "igniter" and it should give you some choices. I chose one that looked the same as the one I removed from the stove.
If this is my issue then should I be able to light my oven manually? I turned my oven on and tried to light manually but it didn't appear to be releasing gas. Does the igniter need to reach a specific temp before gas is released? Other parts of oven working.
A faulty igniter can prevent the gas valve from opening. Just glowing red doesn't mean it's working properly. It must have a certain amount of resistance to send a signal to open the gas valve.
Update: So I was sitting here waiting for the igniter to get hot enough to lite and then I smelled gas so I was able to manually lite it. Well it barely had a flame like it was not getting enough gas. It went out and could not light it manually.
I have the same one but the burner pan doesn't pull out. I took out the 2 screws and it lifts but it feels like it is hooked at the front side. There are no other screws or tabs.
My Kenmore gas oven made a click then popped the breaker. After that it won't heat up. I changed out the igniter but the new igniter won't light either. Broiler and range top still work. Any thoughts?
The one I bought had female spade connectors, one small, one large and the gas valve male connectors were sized the same. No plastic insulators so I followed your lead with shrink insulation over the terminals. About 25 seconds heat up before gas valve opens. I did not need to use the ceramic wire nuts. Mine has a oem plastic quick connect. So, I guess I will check back for longevity update, Or not!
If you type in the brand and model in the search it should bring up the igniters that will work with that oven. You can do this with Google or even on the Amazon site. Also compare the product pics with your igniter and pick the one that matches.
Bruce, I have an older Kemore gas stove, with a menu on the back panel. I moved in 2008 and the stove was here. When I press the ‘Bake’ button the widow on the panel displays a choose of heat times but when I try to enter those numbers there is just fast clicking sound emanating from the panel but the gas does not ignite. Any suggestions??
I'm sorry Dave but I have never had that problem. I just don't have an answer for you. Maybe just try a google search for Kenmore gas stove menu display issues? Or Kenmore gas stove control board trouble shooting? Sorry, I really don't know Dave.
Thanks for the quick response Bruce, I couldn’t find a match from there menu for my stove. The stove top gas jets work and they spark to ignite the gas. Maybe time to go shopping. That’s again for the fast response.
I'd start by replacing the igniter. Just because it is lighting up doesn't mean it's working properly. The ignitor not only has to glow but it has to produce enough resistance to open the gas valve. When they go bad, sometimes they will glow but they don't generate enough resistance to open the valve. It's about the cheapest place to start with your problem.
If you have a Carbon Monoxide detector issue and it is near one of these gas stoves this is likely the cause of the CO2 issues. The ignitor will engage but the pilot never lights up so the gas continues to run but it never lights and it sets off detectors in the vicinity.
yeah mines seems to want to work when i don’t need it my sister used it a bunch when we got it but didnt use the stove or oven for like two years so idk why its not working worked fine few days ago baked cookies now it doesn’t
I'm about to do the same job. Looks like your oven is missing the heat shield that goes under the burner above the drawer. You're wasting heat into the drawer could melt stuff kept there.
Could be, this oven is about 10 years old and was in the house when we bought it. Who knows what it's missing. We don't keep anything in that lower drawer anyhow.
The new igniter does not have any connectors on it. You have to use the connectors off the old igniter. I shortened the length because the new igniter comes with long leads and I didn't need all that length.
The one I used fits many different stoves. It's a universal model. Chances are good it will work but there is no way for me to know without looking at it in person. The main thing is if it will mount where the old one mounts and connecting the two wires. If you can do both of those, it should work.

Ok so the igniter can cause a gas flow issue. Thank you. I will still try the igniter.
👍
I have the same one but the burner pan doesn't pull out. I took out the 2 screws and it lifts but it feels like it is hooked at the front side. There are no other screws or tabs.
My Kenmore gas oven made a click then popped the breaker. After that it won't heat up. I changed out the igniter but the new igniter won't light either. Broiler and range top still work. Any thoughts?
I have not encountered that issue myself. I'm not sure what causes that to happen.
How do I know which igniter to purchase for my oven?
No problem Dave, I wish you the best in your search to find a solution.
My oven flame is very high. Do you know if replacing the burner will fix this
Sorry but I don't know the answer to your question
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 ok thank you

What if I did replace the ignitor and it still is not coming on what should I do next
Honestly I don't know the answer
Hello, i have a o'keefe oven the igniter does light up, Buy there is no flow of gas. Do you know what i can do. Thanks
Ok. Thankyou very muchas i Will do that.
You are welcome, good luck with the project.
Thanks I’ve changed them but not this brand oven. I should’ve watched this first before purchasing a more costly one.
At least you got it done and your oven is working. Good job!
What is the model number of your oven?
If you have a Carbon Monoxide detector issue and it is near one of these gas stoves this is likely the cause of the CO2 issues. The ignitor will engage but the pilot never lights up so the gas continues to run but it never lights and it sets off detectors in the vicinity.
Fixed my oven, now I can have some pizza. Thanks for the video.
Excellent!
Got thanks
You're welcome Karen :)

yeah mines seems to want to work when i don’t need it my sister used it a bunch when we got it but didnt use the stove or oven for like two years so idk why its not working worked fine few days ago baked cookies now it doesn’t
I do t see the links....

That what I did still not lighting up I put new one please help it not lighting up I put right wire and still not lighting up
Sorry to hear that. Was it lighting up before you changed out the igniter?
Why did you need to cut the wires? Why didn't you just use the new ignition?
The new igniter does not have any connectors on it. You have to use the connectors off the old igniter. I shortened the length because the new igniter comes with long leads and I didn't need all that length.
I have an igniter that will not go off. I have to unplug my gas range to turn it off. Ugh.
Darn, I haven't seen that happen before. Hope you get it figured out.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 thanks anyways
Wish I would've found this vid 2 days ago🤦🏽♂️
I have model 790.78853602 Kenmore gas stove. Would that ignition work for that model # ?
The one I used fits many different stoves. It's a universal model. Chances are good it will work but there is no way for me to know without looking at it in person. The main thing is if it will mount where the old one mounts and connecting the two wires. If you can do both of those, it should work.
The wire that goes into the stove? That screw is a rivet in mine. Had to cut that wire. Oh well.
We followed this video but now it won’t ignite
there is no reason to turn the gas off
well im sure if u unplug it the gas safety thing stoped working and might let gas through
Great video
Thanks for the visit
What is the model number of your oven?
