You literally saved me from buying a new oven/range!!! The tricky part was the screws holding the igniter on and how you can’t reach them without taking out the screws below where the burner tube is connected. The way you showed that was so helpful because none of the other videos I watched had them connect that way. Thanks again!!
I think i have this exact oven. I'm pretty sure the igniter is the problem and I'm going to try and fix this myself with your great instructions! I will come back to this thread and let you know if it worked! I'm back to give my review of how the installation went. I followed the directions step by step and I now have a working oven! My husband was pretty impressed that I was able to get the job done. So if there's any ladies out there wondering if they can tackle replacing their igniter I'm here to let you know it went just as smooth as on the video!
Yet again Ben’s a life saver!!! I too got my Rubenesque body down low and changed my igniter. Seay to follow instructions and worked the first time with no hitches. This is what the RUclips was intended for! I can’t recommend his videos and stir enough.
Watched your video on replacing the oven ignitor. It was so easy to do. The hardest part was getting the drawer out. I even ordered the part from ERP (best price). If it took 15 minutes it was a lot. My wife thinks I’m a genius, but we know better! Keep it up 😊
I did not have the amp tester but for $25.00 for the part I decided to try it. My problem was the oven was taking too long to heat up and finally would not reach a 450 setting at all. I replaced the part and it took 45 minutes with cleaning several items (floor, shelf, etc). Thank you so much! Joe
I can't thank you enough. This video was so on point. I ordered the part you recommended, followed your steps, including testing with a clamp on ammeter, to see the amperage (in my case it was 0), so I tested the broiler ignitor, and I found exactly the correct readings as you showed, and then made the repair. Thank you so so much!
Nice! I will remember those amp draw values and use this on my gas oven service calls. Thank you for sharing your expertise and experience with us on RUclips.
Any time the amps are lower than 2.7 the ignitor barely works . Perfect is 3.5 ot 3.2.. also if not amps check for voltage..you may have low amps because no voltage down from computer or valve
Great demo on testing & replacing a defective igniter on a typical range. Glad you showed using a replacement ignore other than the much expensive GE one!
Some of these igniters are INSANE. I've seen certain LG and Frigidaires going for well over $100 and they are the same form and function of these ERP $30-40 units, and I suspect from the same factory.
Thanks for your informative videos. I am wondering about Frigidaire induction ranges. You have not covered them and there is little out there except they are vo energy efficient. What is your opinion on them and slide ins vs stand alone? TYVM for anything you can tell me.
Perfect explanation. This is the exact oven I had to replace the igniter one. The thing I was unsure about was how the gas tube simply pulls on and off. I would have thought there would be leaking where it presses on but I guess not.
I was told by an appliance repairman that GE sells their appliances cheap and then make it up with expensive parts prices. In my experience this seems to be true. Bottom line I always compare OEM parts with other manufacturers for both quality and price. Very helpful video.
This was hlepful. I've been thinking of getting a new range. Ours finally stopped kicking on the oven. I started looking and found I'm looking at paying 900 after shipping and haul away. Decided to just try and replace the ignitor. After dicking with the screws that wouldn't come out I finally got it swapped and am keeping it for the time being. Would rather buy on a good sale or get something I really want if we decide to do a kitchen renovation.
Wife talked me into buying our first &only POS GE XL gas range. Had to replace oven ignitor 3 times & the glass on oven door that blow up while oven was heating up. Dope lazy GE engineers designed that model so ignitor was in series with oven igniter meaning even after gas was safely ignited ignitor was energized vastly shortening it's life. To add salt to my ge wounds that ignitor was more then double the price of every other brand that appliance part store carried. After 8 years I junked it. Life long sparky and always had trouble with GE service & all of their POS expensive 13,200 volt switchgear.
At 3:33 id like to add..if you get very low or no amps.. you may have the computer not sending voltage down...if the amps are super low i recommend checking for 120v to the ignitor . Other than that perfect great video.
great video, very informative. I followed directions and after completing I plugged stove back in and oven lit right up. We used it for an hour or more and then the ignitor blew. I checked wiring and everything looks good Any thoughts??
Hi there. Have a GE Profile XL 44 that often i cannot get to heat much past 375/400. Ignitor goes on, burner burns blue. I noticed that when it gets to that high 300s low 400s range, the blue flame actually will at ties flicker or get smaller. Any tips?
My Tappan gas stove started acting wonky (slow ignition and occasional turn offs) recently, and it seems this could be the problem. Would the diagnostic and ignition system replacement work the same on a Tappan? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
Ben. What's your thoughts on Temp Sensors? How often do you see them needing to be changed with the ignitor? Also, what do you think of Amazon temp sensors vs OEM?? Thanks for everything you do!

Hey love your videos. I watched your Maytag centennial videos to try and fix my washer but I’m stumped and could use some help. The agitator moves fine but it doesn’t move the basket. The belt is fine I took apart the clutch assembly and it still looks to work just fine I’m thinking it could be the Shift Actuator but is there something else that I’m missing ? Please help 🙏
Check video for manual testing and error codes. Check for codes and also try to force it to spin via the manual setting. You can force it to try to shift between agitate and spin... basket should move together when in spin. If it doesn't shift to spin, the actuator is probably bad. If it does shift to spin and just the agitator moves its a hub or the agitator itself
Hey brotha just wanted to send you a update. I changed the actuator and the hub I watched the shifter switch and move the clutch but still the agitator would only move no matter which mode it was in. So I’m not really sure what else it could be at this point
Wow... That's the exact stove I have haha! Wouldn't happen to have a solution for why the oven is not accurate for temperature? It's - 20 degrees from what it is set to.
Did you shut off the gas feed at any point while replacing the ignitor? Do you consider this a job that could be done by a common sense home DIYer? Working with a live gas line seems like pro-level work, but you made it look easy enough for me. I don't have formal training beyond a basic plumbing, electrical, and drywall class and a 75-year old house. Are there any special safety tips you'd recommend for a novice DIYer on this project?
I just changed 2 of the igniters. The original one was back, but I installed the first one, it worked fine for two minutes and there must been a short, because it blew my circuit breaker. I multimeter it and the amps were below 2.40. So I called Amazon and they sent me a new one. But I could tell it was not good, because it looked used. So I ordered from a different company on Amazon. I hope this works. I hope it is not the Safety Valve. There is more work involved, plus it cost between $80 to $150. I am not sure if it worth it
My Kenmore gas oven made a click then popped the breaker. After that it won't heat up. I changed out the igniter but the new igniter won't light either. Any thoughts?
@@bensappliancesandjunk turns out when I check the amps on broiler ignitor it climbs once button is selected. However when I check the amps on the oven ignitor there is no amps after the temperature is selected. Does this mean I have an issue with the Digital control panel?
@@Rockhound1943 If the ignitor is broken on the inside, no amps will flow through it. You'd have to check for 120 VAC going from panel->ignitor to troubleshoot if the board is failing to provide the voltage to heat up the ignitor. Its possible, but I'd check for continuity or ohms resistance on the ignitor first, as ignitor failure is way more common than a board.
