My gosh! What a great instruction video! I don't think I'm going to have to replace this part, but if I did, I, a novice, would feel perfectly safe and competent to do it. There are not many like you! Thank you!
Thank You, Your video helped with the replacement of my igniter, The oven your working on here is the same model I have. There was no need to cut and spice the wires there is an access panel in the back of the oven where you can access the wires for the igniter and a quick disconnect, Simply plug and play, Old to New.

Hi and thanks for the great video. I have the same oven and the ignitor was not glowing. I replaced it by an oem igniter but still not working. I measured the voltage coming to the igniter and was only 2 volt. I guess it should be about 110 volt. Can you please tell me what could be the problem? Thanks in advance
Great video, The screws on my bracket were stripped so I ended up using your trick of putting the new igniter in the old bracket cause there was just no way to remove the old bracket. Thanks a lot

Good instructions; I followed them and it worked out perfectly. I did make one change however. I saved the braided insulation , slid it over the wires leading to the new igniter, thus having enhanced insulation from the igniter to the opening in the oven wall.

Thanks for the Video !!!! Mine had plastic connectors which was a plus. Tip! I started to remove igniter and screws were so tight and a little rusted that it was starting to bend the burner mount.I then put a couple of drops of Liguid Wrench penetrating oil on screws and let it soak for about an hour and then they came off very easy. ( Don't soak it as a couple of drops will do the trick) and make sure you clean the mount off before installing the new part as you definitely do not want any oil on the new element. In fact I used cotton gloves when handling new element just to make sure no oil touched it. Worked great and saved me a repair fee for a simple fix.

I have had to do this a few times in my LG range. I believe if you hit the clean button or do some cooking on a very hot oven this will deteriorate this little glow stick breaking it down. So the more you cook at these high heats or set the oven on the clean cycle the more times this glow stick or igniter will have to be replaced
Thank your video, it helps me. There's upper igniter on the top of oven, I tested wire no electricity on both wire, I wonder just change bottom igniter is fine or I have to change both igniter, Thank you
I have a 2012 Whirlpool gas double oven range and the top oven will not start on bake, it seems to work fine on Broil. So, I am attempting to remove the igniter and have taken the two screws off the igniter and trying to remove it. I got it off but there is not electrical plug like on your video and others. Will I need to remove the back of the range and get to the plug from there?
Great instructions! It would of worked and was confident trying to fix my oven But broke the new ignitor trying to get it out of the bracket. Barely tapped it i guess.
Hey good video I been try to fix my samsung stove that's giving trouble to light I see the ignitor glowing but it won't light some time it works and then again it won't I just might look to change the ignitor and see if it helps but the valve is good did a continuity test and it was good

John Hardison basically tried my best to cover those wires. Not perfect, but nothing has melted yet. After the igniter is installed there is very little of the wiring that is exposed to the oven side. Most is behind the range. If in doubt, fireproof insulation can be found at any hardware store. I realize this comes a couple months late. Hope it helps the next guy.

Excellent video! I have a Whirlpool range, model #WGG555S0BS01. It started as not broiling or self-cleaning a little over a year ago. I changed the igniter (not an oem part) in December 2018, but it did not fix the problem, although it has heated properly until last night. Now, the upper oven is completely dead, with no signs of even trying to ignite or heat. The lower oven and all of the stove burners work perfectly. Does this sound like a bad igniter, yet again? I'm considering buying the OEM part this time in the hopes that this will fix the problem. Would you recommend the OEM igniter as the fix for my oven? Thanks!

Well lucky me turkey day ignitor lights but lil flame, so that sounds like since the last time we used our stove, last year. I may swap the broiler ignitor to the bake first, it lights, off I go for a new ignitor.
This seems like such a silly thing to ask, but did you say you only have to unplug it but not shut the gas off? It seems like the gas should be shut off as well, but maybe I'm just being nervous? Thanks in advance!

It IS necessary to put back the thermal insulation on the new wires!! Before connecting the wires slip the insulation on the new wires (and keep them longer!) the connetion betwen the old and new wires will have to be pushed back into the cavity.

Matt, I could use some advice. I have a jennaire gas stove and the oven doesn't ignite. The broiler does but not the oven, so I put an OHM meter across the igniter it had connectivity but I ordered a new igniter anyway. The new one draws a lot less OHMs so I installed it as per your video. Fired it up and nothing. I checked the wire coming in and going out of the igniter and both wires have 120 volts when bake is selected so it's completing the circuit but the igniter won't glow. The oven defaults to 100 degs. I don't think I have two faulty igniters? I would really appreciate any advice. Brad

WHAT ABOUT IF YOU DO NOT EVEN SMELL GAS? The top burners work, but the broiler/oven does not. Even if the igniter is bad shouldn't you smell gas when turned on??
+Andrew Anselmo No, the oven has more safety measures as the oven goes on & off to maintain temperature. Older models with a gas pilot light had a thermostat near the pilot flame that controlled the valve. Electronic starters could use a thermostat or a sensor that monitors the current going through the igniter.

Wow, your video is the best of any other ones on here!! I have an old Tappan TGF362BBBA, and it has been acting up for a while now. The last few months when I would press Preheat, the oven would heat up, but it took about 45 minutes. Now the igniter is just glowing orange and not heating through the tube. The good thing is that the burners and broiler are working. Do you think the oven igniter just needs replaced? This oven has a dual gas safety valve, could it be that? I hope not, because it wouldn't be worth replacing! I tried using a multi-meter to check the gas safety valve, but I'm confused as to how to really check it. I can't pull my range out from the wall because it is way to heavy, and that's why I really like how you show to replace the igniter by doing it inside the oven! Any help you could give is very appreciated, thank you!!

Is there any possible way to by-pass the igniter to turn oven on....such as with a long neck lighter???? I can not get the igniter for my stove. Please reply.
Thank you so much only video that showed me how to cut the wire instead of unplugging the whole.

Ceramic wire nuts? Taught me something right there. I didn't know they existed, thanks!

Wonderful video and explanation, thank you!
There's upper igniter on the top of oven, I tested wire no electricity on both wire, I wonder just change bottom igniter is fine or I have to change both igniter, Thank you
What about the old insulation wire? The new wire is exposed
Thanks! Fixed it! To the point!
Thank You for a great video!👍🏼
I have a 2012 Whirlpool gas double oven range and the top oven will not start on bake, it seems to work fine on Broil. So, I am attempting to remove the igniter and have taken the two screws off the igniter and trying to remove it. I got it off but there is not electrical plug like on your video and others. Will I need to remove the back of the range and get to the plug from there?
Great instructions! It would of worked and was confident trying to fix my oven But broke the new ignitor trying to get it out of the bracket. Barely tapped it i guess.
should the flame be on at all times or only when you hit bake? my flame is staying on
Hey good video I been try to fix my samsung stove that's giving trouble to light I see the ignitor glowing but it won't light some time it works and then again it won't I just might look to change the ignitor and see if it helps but the valve is good did a continuity test and it was good
Extremely helpful video! Thank-you!

Hi! But what if there is no power on the igniter and you can see it by voltage tester, is it means that the control board is out of order?
How do I know what gage the wire is to cut it? What size wire nut to need to buy?
Did you turn off the gas before doing the ignitor test?

No. You wouldn't be able to test it if it lights the gas up then.
is it NOT necessary to put thermal insulation back over the new wiring?
I am wondering the exact same thing. The wires will have a little bit of insulation on them but it is not quite as heavy duty as what he cuts through.
Andrew the ignitor I bought had a quick connect on it. Luckily so did the original ignitor.
Did anyone ever post an explanation to this? I am about to undertake this procedure and would like to avoid a bunch of melted wires.
Andrew Nelson you helped the next guy (me) hah

Thanks for the video. I replaced it and now my oven works fine. I did notice mice had gotten into alot of the insulation so I can see right through the stove from the inside to the back panel. Can i use roxall to insulate it?

Before connecting the wires slip the insulation on the new wires (and keep them longer!)
the connetion betwen the old and new wires will have to be pushed back into the cavity.

No. The heating element is the ceramic parts. The two long greyish things that stick out of the end of ignitor . Don't touch with bare hands.
My ignitor works I just don't get gas. Any tips? The stove burners work great just not the oven

+Andrew Anselmo
No, the oven has more safety measures as the oven goes on & off to maintain temperature.

The igniter had been replaced ,months ago.The oven door handle fell off,the light NEVER WORKED.A appliance guy to replace the motor board,a while back,we did'nt.This Dacor oven is DISCONTINUED.What makes the oven do that,is there a chance it may blow up?I use the gas top of the oven to cook,I refuse to turn the oven on/or use it.Is there DANGER?

The oem ignitor has a plug on it, accessed by pulling the old one out just a little more I dont understand why the tech is doing it this way...I would only do it this way in a pinch. That's just me.
No all ignitors have a plug (unfortunately)... like mine.... .... does not, so the only option is to use the ceramic wire nuts.

If you order the OEM Igniter you just pull the wires out to the connector, no splicing needed.
Put a bit of water on the screws prior to removal and they won't strip.
